Aim: The primary aim of this study was to determine the risk factors for the occurrence of brachial plexus injury in cases of shoulder dystocia. Secondly, it was aimed to determine the factors affecting the occurrence of permanent sequelae in cases with brachial plexus injury. Subjects and Methods: ICD‑10 codes were scanned from the records of patients who gave birth between 2012 and 2018, and the records of patients with brachial plexus injury and shoulder dystocia were reached. Shoulder dystocia cases with brachial plexus damage were accepted as the study group, and shoulder dystocia cases without brachial plexus damage were considered the control group. Shoulder dystocia patients with brachial plexus injury and without injury were compared for 2‑year orthopedics clinic follow‑up reports, surgical intervention, permanent sequelae status as well as birth data, maternal characteristics, and maneuvers applied to the management of shoulder dystocia. Results: Five hundred sixty births with shoulder dystocia were detected. Brachial plexus injury was observed in 88 of them, and permanent sequelae were detected in 12 of these patients. Maneuvers other than McRobert’s (advanced maneuvers) were used more and clavicle fracture was seen more in the group with plexus injury (P < 0.05, P < 0.05, respectively). Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the risk factors of brachial plexus injury. Brachial plexus injury was observed 4.746 times more in infants who were delivered with advanced maneuvers and 3.58 times more in infants with clavicle fractures at birth. Conclusion: In patients with shoulder dystocia, the risk of brachial plexus injury increased in deliveries in which advanced maneuvers were used and clavicle fracture occurred.

The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Salvia verticillata L. subsp. amasiaca (Freyn&Bornm.) Bornm. from Turkey was analyzed by GC-MS. Overall, 21 compounds were identified representing 97.27% of the total oil. 1,8-Cineole 15.9%, trans-caryophyllene 13.3%, spathulenol 8.3%, germacrene-D 7.5%, carvacrol 6.3% and ?-pinene 4.9 % as main constituents in the oil. © 2019, Badebio Biotechnololgy Ltd. This study presents to evaluate patients with malignant or operated for benign reasons in terms of the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey which is an endemic region of Goiter. Within the scope of the study, 460 patients over the age of 18 who applied to the RecepTayip Erdoğan University Training and Research Hospital General Surgery Outpatient Clinic between January 2013 and July 2016 and underwent total thyroidectomy or hemithyroidectomy for benign or malign reasons were retrospectively analyzed. Age, gender, TSH values of the patients, preoperative (preop.) Thyroid or neck ultrasonography (USG) reports, thyroid fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) results, and pathological/morphological examination results were evaluated. 352 of 460 patients were women (76.5%) and the mean age of all patients was calculated as 52.2 (± 11.39). 70 cases (18%) non-diagnostic cytology, 104 cases (26.8%) benign cytology, 59 cases (15.2%) atypia of uncertain significance, 61 cases (15.7%) suspicion of follicular neoplasia/neoplasia, 78 cases (20.1%) were suspected of malignancy and 16 cases (4.1%) were detected as malignant cytology. In order to determine experimental doses, LD50 values of essential oils were determined on mice. Taking into consideration the LD30 range, the experimental toxic doses were calculated for each rat (rat/kg). The toxic dosages thus determined were adapted to rats for active substances (rat/kg). Using commercially available pure virgin olive oil (VOO) as the solvent and diluting agent, OM oil (n=10), JE fruitoil (n=10), carvacrol (CRV) (n=10), VOO (n=10) and normal saline SF (n=8) were administered on the basis of 12 days into intraperitoneal (IP). In recent years, studies showed that there is a close relationship between oxidative stress and pathogenesis of the disease. The aim of the study is to determine the serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels for lipid peroxidation status and serum glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD), total bilirubin and albumin levels for antioxidant activities to find out the possible relationship between oxidative stress and septicemia in calves. The materials of this study are 40 septicemic and 13 healthy calves. No significant differences were observed for serum MDA and albumin levels between septicemic and healthy groups (p>0.05). ΔΕΝ ΥΠΑΡΧΕΙ ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ ΣΤΑ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ, The aim of this study was to evaluate serum paraoxonase 1 (PON1) activities, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total peroxidation (TPX), oxidative stress index (OSI) and their associations with Retained fetal membrane (RFM) in late pregnancy and postpartum period. Possible relationships have been investigated between these markers and other relevant blood parameters also. Totally 266 pregnant cows were included in this study. Samples were taken in during late pregnancy and postpartum periods. The cows were divided into two groups after giving birth as RFM and Non-Retained fetal membrane (NRFM). The TAC, TPX and OSI values were not different in RFM compared to NRFM in both periods. The PON1 activities of RFM group in both periods were lower than those of the NRFM, however; these variations were not statistically significant. PON1 activities was statistically higher in the late pregnancy both RFM and NRFM groups than postpartum. This observation point out oxidative stress could not relate to pathogenesis of RFM. The PON1 activity was increased physiologically in pregnant cows, and more information is needed to determine whether PON1 may be used to identify cows at high risk of developing RFM. Decreasing serum urea/creatinine ratio, globulin and total protein concentration and increasing albumin/globulin ratio might be a parameter to contributing use in diagnosis of RFM.

In this study, it is aimed to investigate correlation between antioxidative metabolism and the significant skin disease pyoderma in dogs and to demonstrate the extent of oxidative damage with 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels. Healthy (n=13), females diagnosed as pyoderma (untreated) (n=16), heathy (n=14) males and males diagnosed as pyoderma (untreated) (n=12) consisted the four study groups. In this aspect two control and two diseased groups were formed according to gender. Blood and urine samples were obtained from all the groups and bacterial swabs were collected from the diseased groups as well. Plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) besides urine 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine levels measured with LC/MS/MS. MDA and 8-OHdG levels were increased in diseased groups. Differences among groups were found to be significant (p ? 0.05). Nüfusun hızla arttığı dünyada, birim alandan elde edilen ürün miktarını arttırmak son derece önem arz etmektedir. Üretimi ve ticareti sürekli artış gösteren domatesin birim alandan elde edilen verimini arttırmak amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada verim artışını sağlamanın yanı sıra, yapılan uygulamaların kalite özellikleri üzerine olan etkileri de değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla farklı terbiye sistemleri (atlatma, klips, yatırma) ve dikim mesafeleri (sık 40 x 40, seyrek 80 x 40) uygulanmıştır. Eylül ayının ikinci haftası seraya dikilen fidelerin sökümü sera sıcaklığının aşırı artmasından dolayı temmuz başında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, seyrek dikim uygulaması kesinlikle önerilmezken sık dikim ve uç almadan yapılan yetiştiriciliğin ciddi verim artışı sağladığı tespit edilmiştir. Kontrol sık dikim uygulamasının verim (711,11 g/salkım) artışını sağlayan en iyi uygulama olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ancak atlatma sık uygulamasında toplam verimde 1 tonluk bir azalma olmasına rağmen meyve iriliğinin, meyve eti sertliğinin ve meyve eti kalınlığının daha fazla olması, duyusal analizlerde atlatma sık uygulamasının daha iyi netice vermesi üretim sistemi ile tüketici tercihinin ortak noktada buluşması açısından da önem kazanmaktadır. Hem elde edilen verim hem de meyve kalitesi yönünden salkım domates çeşitleri için önerilebilecek terbiye sisteminin atlatma sık dikim uygulaması olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır

Clusters of galaxies are thought to form by accretion of galaxies along the cosmic filaments, and merging of clusters formed earlier. Observations and hydrodynamic simulations show the strong effects of mergers on physical conditions of the Intra Cluster Medium (ICM). In this work, we investigate five relatively nearby Abell clusters; A3705 (z= 0.089), A2440 (z= 0.090), A2933 (z= 0.092), A3888 (z= 0.152) and A115 (z= 0.193). Temperature; and metal abundance map are created using wavelet. algorithms. Peculiar regions are spectrally studied and large scale of deviations are observed. Based on the results merging histories of our cluster sample are interpreted.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Postcontrast fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging effectively depicts parenchymal and leptomeningeal metastases, as reported in limited patient groups. We compared postcontrast T1-weighted (T1W) and FLAIR imaging in a larger group. METHODS: Sixty-nine patients with known malignancy and suspected cranial metastases underwent axial FLAIR and spin-echo T1W imaging with and then without intravenous gadopentetate dimeglumine. Postcontrast images were compared for lesion conspicuity and enhancement, number of parenchymal metastases, and extension of leptomeningeal-cisternal metastases. RESULTS: Parenchymal metastases were demonstrated in 33 patients. Compared with T1W images, postcontrast FLAIR images showed more metastases in five patients, an equal number in 20, and fewer lesions in eight. Regarding lesion conspicuity, postcontrast FLAIR imaging was superior in five patients, equal in one, and inferior in 27. For enhancement, FLAIR imaging was superior in five, equal in five, and inferior in 23. Superior FLAIR results for lesion number, conspicuity, and enhancement were observed in the same five patients; in these patients, FLAIR imaging was performed as the second postcontrast sequence. Eleven patients had leptomeningeal-cisternal metastases; lesion conspicuity, extension, and enhancement were superior on postcontrast FLAIR images in eight. In five of eight patients, FLAIR imaging was performed as the second postcontrast sequence. Four patients had cranial-nerve metastases; in three, postcontrast FLAIR imaging was superior for lesion conspicuity and extension. In two of these patients, FLAIR imaging was the second postcontrast sequence. CONCLUSION: Postcontrast FLAIR imaging is a valuable adjunct to postcontrast T1W imaging. Precontrast and postcontrast FLAIR imaging effectively delineates parenchymal metastases, particularly leptomeningeal-cisternal and cranial-nerve metastases.

Five new compounds p-(4-n-butyl-phenylazo)calix[4]arene (1), p-(4-phenylazophenylazo)calix[4]arene (2). p-(4-acetanilidazo)calix[4]arene (3), p-(N'-2-thiazol-2-ylsulfanylazo)calix[4]arene (4) and p-(2-thiazolazo)calix[4]arene (5) have been synthesized from calix[4]arene by diazo coupling with the corresponding aromatic amines.
