The Diptera fauna of the Galápagos Archipelago is updated and an annotated checklist is presented. Currently 50 families, 207 genera, and a minimum of 324 species are recorded from the islands. Approximately 107 species are considered to have arrived on the Galápagos Islands through human introductions, an estimated 101 species are considered endemic, 42 species have naturally colonized the islands from mainland Americas, 21 species are either introduced or arrived naturally and 53 species remain unidentified. The following new combination is proposed: Chrysanthrax primitivus (Walker) is moved to Hemipenthes Loew as H. primitivus (Walker) comb. nov. All references to the Galápagos taxonomic literature are included, known island species distributions listed and general remarks on the biology of many species are provided.

Coenosiini (Diptera: Muscidae) is a large cosmopolitan tribe of muscids, within which Coenosia Meigen and Neodexiopsis Malloch are the genera with the largest number of species. In this work, we revised for the first time, all the species placed by Malloch (1934) under Austrocoenosia, an endemic genus from the Andean Patagonian Forests, whose species are now placed in Coenosia and Neodexiopsis. We provide detail redescriptions for eight species placed by Malloch (1934) under Austrocoenosia, and decribed two new species (Coenosia delneneo sp. nov. and Coenosia patagonica sp. nov.), with high quality photographs detailing new structures of the male and female terminalia. To establish the position of the species of Austrocoenosia with respect to Coenosia and Neodexiopsis, we made a phylogenetic analysis using implied weighting for 36 taxa and 132 morphological characters of adults, including male and female genitalia. We recovered all species of Austrocoenosia as Coenosia species. We propose the following nomenclature actions: Austrocoenosia as a junior synonymy of Coenosia (syn. rest.); Coenosia brevicornis (Malloch) (comb. nov.), Coenosia dubia (Bigot) (comb. rest.); Coenosia hucketti, Pont (nom. nov.) and Coenosia nigerrima (Malloch) (comb. rest.). We also propose Coenosia spumicola Pont as an unplaced species of Coenosia sensu lato. Finally, we updated the geographic distributions for all species and observed several new male and female terminalia structures, which enriched the discussion of the genera and the tribe.

An updated catalogue of Culicoides of Mexico is presented. It includes 86 species with their regional distribution and corresponding record references, known immature stages and associated pathogens. In addition, a taxonomic key for subgenera and species groups for Mexico is presented and an index of species by state is included.

Subgenus Risa Becker Risa Becker, 1907:404. Type species: Risa longirostris Becker, 1907:404 [monotypy].—Hennig, 1937:75 [redescription].— Papp, 1984: 178 [Palearctic catalog, as a genus]. Diagnosis. The subgenus Risa is distinguished from the subgenus Achaetorisa by the following combination of characters: Head: Face usually with a conspicuous, medial carina, in lateral view carina pointed (carina inconspicuous in R. kotrbae). Thorax: Prescutellar acrostichal setae usually well developed (absent in R. kotrbae); scutellar disc bearing a few, scattered setulae. Costal section III (between R 2+3 and R 4+5) bearing approximately 70–80, densely spaced setulae. Abdomen: Male terminalia: Cercus fused ventrally with epandrium; gonostylus either lacking or more likely fused indistinguishably with ventral margin of epandrial arm; hypandrium wider than long, almost band-like, transverse. Female terminalia: Subanal plate present; sternite 8 interrupted or thin dorsomedially, often with a sclerotized, protrusion (Fig. 33); posterior portion of sternite 8 bearing (1) numerous, mostly straight setae (R. asiatica), (2) numerous straight and some hooked setae (R. flavipalpis), or (3) numerous, long, hooked setae (R. longirostris, R. longicornuta, R. kotrbae); anterior margin of sternite 8 bearing numerous long setulae; cerci short and rounded; stalk of ventral receptacle lacking paired, tubular processes (Fig. 15). Subgenus Achaetorisa Papp Achaetorisa Papp, 1980: 420, 421 [as a genus]. Type species: Achaetorisa brevicornis Papp, 1980: 421 [monotypy]; 1984: 178 [Palearctic catalog]. Diagnosis. The subgenus Achaetorisa is distinguished from the nominate subgenus Risa by the following combination of characters: Head: Face with a medial carina, in lateral view carina rounded. Thorax: Prescutellar acrostichal setae absent, only setulae present; scutellar disc lacking setulae. Costal section III (between R 2+3 and R 4+5) bearing approximately 10–35 setulae along anterior margin. Abdomen: Male terminalia: Cercus elongate, separate from epandrium; gonostylus evident as distinct lobe at ventral margin of epandrial arm (Figs 42, 55); hypandrium in ventral view plate like, longer than wide, shallowly pocket-like. Female terminalia: subanal plate absent (Fig. 34); sternite 8 entire but lacking a sclerotized, protrusion, posterior portion lacking hooked setulae, but bearing 12–22 short, straight setae along anterior margin; cerci short and rounded; stalk of ventral receptacle with paired, tubular processes (Figs 47, 48). Discussion. Achaetorisa is given status here as a wellcorroborated, monophyletic subgenus. As a terminal clade, however, its recognition as a subgenus leaves the nominate subgenus as a paraphyletic group that includes, among other lineages, Achaetorisa. Papp (1980) described Achaetorisa and distinguished it from Risa using several characters. The discovery of additional species of Risa, and thus an enhanced opportunity to study critically characters for this group, revealed that Achaetorisa brevicornis is congeneric with other species of Risa and that Achaetorisa should therefore be consigned to subgeneric status within Risa. Papp (1980), however, did not emphasize the distinctive and paired ventral appendages of the female ventral receptacle in R. brevicornis. These appendages appear to be unique to the Achaetorisa group. We recognize the following five species in the subgenus Achaetorisa: Risa (Achaetorisa) brevicornis (Papp) comb. nov., R. (A.) brevirostris sp. nov., R. (A.) flavicoxa Krivosheina & Ozerov, R. (A.) nettae sp. nov., and R. New records of flies from the family Ephydridae are presented. Seventeen species are recorded from the Czech Republic for the first time: Athyroglossa flaviventris (Meigen, 1830), Ditrichophora olivacea (Becker, 1896), Gymnoclasiopa aulisioi (Canzoneri, 1976), Hyadina scutellata (Haliday, 1839), Hydrellia frontosa Becker, 1926, H. geniculata (Stenhammar, 1844), H. meigeni Zatwarnicki, 1988, H. porphyrops Haliday, 1839, H. stratiotae Hering, 1925, H. subalbiceps Collin, 1966, Notiphila (Notiphila) brunipes (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830), N. (N.) subnigra Krivosheina, 1998, Parydra (Chaetoapnaea) obliterata Duda, 1942, Parydra (Parydra) undulata Becker, 1896, Philygria stenoptera Hollmann-Schirrmacher, 1998, Polytrichophora (Sklodowskopa) indistincta Stuke, 2016, and Scatella (Neoscatella) subguttata (Meigen, 1830). Seven species, Cnestrum lepidopes Becker, 1896, Pelina similis Papp, 1974, P. subpunctata Becker, 1896, Philygria obtecta Becker, 1896, Scatella (S.) obsoleta Loew, 1861, Scatophila pumilio (Loew, 1860), and Subpelignus limosinus (Becker, 1896), are recorded from Bohemia for the first time. Diclasiopa niveipennis (Becker, 1896), Hydrellia flavicornis (Fallén, 1823), and Scatella (Scatella) lutosa (Haliday 1833) are newly recorded and their occurrence in the Czech Republic is thus confirmed.

Three species are synonymized with taxa in Drosophilidae: Hydrellia alboguttata Loew, 1845 = Amiota alboguttata (Wahlberg, 1839), Hydrellia annulata Loew, 1845 = Phortica variegata (Fallen, 1823), Hydrellia flavipes Macquart, 1835 = Scaptomyza graminum (Fallén, 1823); one species is moved to Heleomyzidae: Notiphila alboclavata Bigot, 1888 = Prosopanthrum diadematum (Bigot, 1888), and one to Milichiidae: Gymnopa opaca Rondani, 1869 = Desmometopa m-nigrum (Zetterstedt, 1848).

Axysta clausseni spec. nov. is described from Finland and Germany. All available names of European Axysta are discussed and Hydrina viridula Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 is placed as nomen dubium in the genus Hyadina (status rev.).

Hyadina viridula (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830) Hydrina viridula Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 795; locus typicus not given [presumably France]; no information available about type material, type missing from coll. Robineau-Desvoidy (MATHIS & ZATWARNICKI 1995). Remarks. Hydrina viridula was described only very briefly by ROBINEAUDESVOIDY (1830): “Longueur, 2/3 de ligne. Petite; noire; un peu de cendré sur les côtés du corselet; abdomen d’un noir verdoyant; face d’un brun flavescent; pattes noires; ailes claires et sans tache.» This description does not allow any definitive diagnosis, but HALIDAY (1856) nevertheless identified this species as a synonym of Axysta cesta. This was corrected by LOEW (1860), who placed Axysta viridula sensu Haliday as a synonym to A. cesta and stated that Hydrina viridula Robineau- Desvoidy, 1830 cannot belong to Axysta. LOEW (1860) did not attempt to place Hydrina viridula Robineau- Desvoidy, 1830, however, and consequently, it should be treated as a nomen dubium of the genus Hyadina (stat. rev.).
