Abstract The Lower Jurassic Ziliujing Formation in China’s Sichuan Basin is a significant shale target for exploration; however, the strong heterogeneity of the properties of organic matter (OM) in shale makes it challenging to identify the target area for exploration, and the mechanism of OM enrichment is still unclear. Furthermore, the mechanisms of the response of the Da’anzhai member to the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE) are controversial. Previous studies have focused on sedimentary facies analysis based on mineralogy and elemental abundances and have provided minimal information about organic geochemistry, which adds to the challenge of deeply understanding the influence of the T-OAE on the molecular geochemical characteristics of the Da’anzhai member. In this study, the Da’anzhai member of the Lower Jurassic Ziliujing Formation in the Langzhong area, Sichuan Basin, is studied via X-ray diffraction, total organic carbon, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, organic carbon isotope, organic petrographical and pyrolysis analyses. To accurately identify the trend of the paleosedimentary environmental proxies, the Mann‒Kendall test is utilized to identify the trend of the data. Our results show that the Da’anzhai shale was deposited in a dysoxic transitional environment to an intermittent reducing environment with freshwater to brackish conditions. The response to the T-OAE can be identified in the middle and upper parts of the middle submember and the bottom of the upper submember of the Da’anzhai member. The T-OAE influenced the redox conditions, salinity, and OM origins during deposition in the middle of the Da’anzhai member, which resulted in the enrichment of OM. The abnormally high C30 diahopane/C30 hopane (C30D/C30H) ratio can be considered a potential proxy for locating the section of strata that responded to the T-OAE in the Da’anzhai member. In the study area, the mechanism of the response of the Da’anzhai shale to the T-OAE manifested as an improvement in hydrological cycling rather than a marine incursion. Our study provides new information that deepens the understanding of the mechanisms of the response of lacustrine shales to oceanic anoxic events from the perspective of molecular organic geochemistry.

ObjectiveThe association between autoimmune diseases and chronic rhinosinusitis in observational studies remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the genetic correlation between chronic rhinosinusitis and autoimmune diseases.MethodsWe employed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis and linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC) to investigate causal relationships and genetic correlations between autoimmune phenotypes and chronic rhinosinusitis. Additionally, transcriptome-wide association (TWAS) analysis was conducted to identify the shared genes between the two conditions to demonstrate their relationship. The CRS GWAS (genome-wide association study) data and other autoimmune diseases were retrieved from ieuOpenGWAS (https://gwas.mrcieu.ac.uk/), the FinnGen alliance (https://r8.finngen.fi/), the UK Biobank (https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/), and the EBI database (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/).ResultsUtilizing a bivariate two-sample Mendelian randomization approach, our findings suggest a significant association of chronic rhinosinusitis with various autoimmune diseases, including allergic rhinitis (p = 9.55E-10, Odds Ratio [OR] = 2,711.019, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 261.83391–28,069.8), asthma (p = 1.81E-23, OR = 33.99643, 95%CI = 17.52439–65.95137), rheumatoid arthritis (p = 9.55E-10, OR = 1.115526, 95%CI = 1.0799484–1.1522758), hypothyroidism (p = 2.08828E-2, OR = 4.849254, 95%CI = 1.7154455–13.707962), and type 1 diabetes (p = 2.08828E-2, OR = 01.04849, 95%CI = 1.0162932–1.0817062). LDSC analysis revealed a genetic correlation between the positive autoimmune phenotypes mentioned above and chronic rhinosinusitis: AR (rg = 0.344724754, p = 3.94E-8), asthma (rg = 0.43703672, p = 1.86E-10), rheumatoid arthritis (rg = 0.27834931, p = 3.5376E-2), and hypothyroidism (rg = −0.213201473, p = 3.83093E-4). Utilizing the Transcriptome-Wide Association Studies (TWAS) approach, we identified several genes commonly associated with both chronic rhinosinusitis and autoimmune diseases. Genes such as TSLP/WDR36 (Chromosome 5, top SNP: rs1837253), ORMDL3 (Chromosome 13, top SNP: rs11557467), and IL1RL1/IL18R1 (Chromosome 2, top SNP: rs12905) exhibited a higher degree of consistency in their shared involvement across atopic dermatitis (AT), allergic rhinitis (AR), and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).ConclusionCurrent evidence suggests a genetic correlation between chronic rhinosinusitis and autoimmune diseases like allergic rhinitis, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism, and type 1 diabetes. Further research is required to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these associations.

Abstract Sulfur (S) is one of the main components of important biomolecules, which has been paid more attention in the anaerobic environment of rice cultivation. In this study, 12 accessions of rice materials, belonging to two Asian rice domestication systems and one African rice domestication system, were used by shotgun metagenomics sequencing to compare the structure and function involved in S cycle of rhizosphere microbiome between wild and cultivated rice. The sulfur cycle functional genes abundances were significantly different between wild and cultivated rice rhizosphere in the processes of sulfate reduction and other sulfur compounds conversion, implicating that wild rice had a stronger mutually-beneficial relationship with rhizosphere microbiome, enhancing sulfur utilization. To assess the effects of sulfate reduction synthetic microbiomes, Comamonadaceae and Rhodospirillaceae, two families containing the genes of two key steps in the dissimilatory sulfate reduction, aprA and dsrA respectively, were isolated from wild rice rhizosphere. Compared with the control group, the dissimilatory sulfate reduction in cultivated rice rhizosphere was significantly improved in the inoculated with different proportions groups. It confirmed that the synthetic microbiome can promote the S-cycling in rice, and suggested that may be feasible to construct the synthetic microbiome step by step based on functional genes to achieve the target functional pathway. In summary, this study reveals the response of rice rhizosphere microbial community structure and function to domestication, and provides a new idea for the construction of synthetic microbiome.

Web application fuzzing faces significant challenges in achieving comprehensive test interface (attack surface) coverage, primarily due to the complexity of user interactions and dynamic website architectures. While web crawlers can automatically access and extract critical website information—including form fields and request parameters—which are essential for generating effective fuzzing test cases, current crawler technologies exhibit three primary limitations: (i) insufficient capabilities in analyzing page relationships and determining page states; (ii) lack of functionality-aware exploration capabilities, resulting in generated inputs with poor contextual relevance; (iii) generation of unstructured operation sequences that fail to execute effectively due to their incompatibility with state-based testing logic. To address these challenges, we propose CrawlMLLM, a framework using multi-modal large language models to simulate human web browsing. It includes three core components: page state mining, functionality analysis, and automatic operation generation. Evaluations show 163% code coverage improvements over SOTA work. When integrated with vulnerability audit tools, CrawlMLLM found 44 vulnerabilities in three vulnerable web applications versus 34 by the baseline. In six real-world applications, CrawlMLLM detected 20 vulnerabilities while the next best method found six.

Crop diversification is pivotal in sustainable agriculture, influencing soil microbial communities and soil nutrient cycling functions. Yet, the impacts of incorporating medicinal plants into crop diversification strategies on the functional characteristics of these microbial communities remain understudied. This research elucidates the benefits of diversified cropping systems by assessing soil nutrient content, diversity and composition of soil microorganisms, the abundance of functional genes involved in carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) cycling, and overall agricultural productivity; collectively referred to as ecological benefits. The experimental design included four treatment groups: (1) continuous maize (Zea mays L.) cultivation (MC); (2) maize–A. lancea (Atractylodes lancea Thunb.) intercropping (MA); (3) maize–sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) rotation (MS); and (4) maize–A. lancea intercropping combined with sorghum rotation (MSA). Findings indicate that diversified cropping treatments significantly enhance the alpha diversity of soil bacterial communities over fungal communities. NH4+ and NO3− predominantly influence the composition of soil bacterial communities, with a notable increase in the relative abundance of Acidobacteriota, Gemmatimonadota, and Chloroflexi. Compared to MC treatment, the MA and MSA treatments significantly increased the abundance of C (121.44%, 294.26%), N (206.57%, 294.26%), and P (112.02%, 225.84%) cycling genes. The inverse variance weighting evaluation demonstrates that, compared to the MC treatment, the MS (5.34) and MSA (8.15) treatments significantly boost soil ecological benefits. Overall, diversifying the cultivation of A. lancea with grains can enhance the ecological benefits of the soil. This study offers new perspectives on diversified planting, particularly in terms of species selection and practical combinations on farmland.

Jurassic lacustrine shale in the Sichuan Basin is a focal exploration area in China, while the pronounced heterogeneity presents challenges, necessitating detailed research as a prerequisite. This study aims at the Jurassic Ziliujing Formation Da’anzhai shale in the central Sichuan Basin, systematically characterizing its geological features. Employing geochemical methods, we reconstructed the paleo-sedimentary environments and explored the mechanisms behind the organic matter enrichment. The findings reveal that the Da’anzhai shale exhibits three lithofacies: organic-rich argillaceous shale (ORA), organic-poor argillaceous shale (OPA), and organic-rich mixed shale (ORM). The sedimentary period was marked by a warm and humid climate, predominantly depositing in anoxic environments with freshwater to brackish conditions. The watershed areas that are provenance sources for the shale clastics are experiencing strong weathering. Significant differences in the sedimentary environments of various lithofacies’ shale were observed. Redox conditions and paleoclimate were identified as the primary factors controlling organic matter enrichment in the Da’anzhai shale of the study area. Salinity also played a role in organic matter enrichment, while terrigenous debris influx and paleo-productivity did not exert a significant controlling effect on organic matter enrichment. Utilizing the reconstructed ancient sedimentary environments, we developed sedimentary models for different lithofacies’ shale, contributing to a deeper understanding of lithofacies’ diversity and the mechanisms governing organic matter enrichment in lacustrine environments. This study provides new information for further understanding the response mechanism of lacustrine shales to the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event in the Early Jurassic from the perspective of elemental geochemistry.

Abstract Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a clinical and pathophysiological syndrome caused by changes in pulmonary vascular structure or function that results in increased pulmonary vascular resistance and pulmonary arterial pressure, and it is characterized by pulmonary endothelial dysfunction, pulmonary artery media thickening, pulmonary vascular remodeling, and right ventricular hypertrophy, all of which are driven by an imbalance between the growth and death of pulmonary vascular cells. Programmed cell death (PCD), different from cell necrosis, is an active cellular death mechanism that is activated in response to both internal and external factors and is precisely regulated by cells. More than a dozen PCD modes have been identified, among which apoptosis, autophagy, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, necroptosis, and cuproptosis have been proven to be involved in the pathophysiology of PH to varying degrees. This article provides a summary of the regulatory patterns of different PCD modes and their potential effects on PH. Additionally, it describes the current understanding of this complex and interconnected process and analyzes the therapeutic potential of targeting specific PCD modes as molecular targets.

Abstract Solitary waves are unique in nonlinear systems, but their formation and propagation in the nonlinear fluid-structure interactions have yet to be further explored. As a typical nonlinear system, the buckling of solid thin films is fundamentally related to the film-substrate interface that is further vulnerable to environments, especially when fluids exist. In this work, we report an anomalous, solitary-wave-like blister (SWLB) mode of MoS2 thin films in a humid environment. Unlike the most common telephone-cord and web buckling deformation, the SWLB propagates forward like solitary waves that usually appear in fluids and exhibits three-dimensional expansions of the profiles during propagation. In situ mechanical, optical, and topology measurements verify the existence of an interfacial water nanolayer, which facilitates a delamination of films at the front side of the SWLB and a readhesion at the tail side owing to the water nanolayer-induced fluid-structure interaction. Furthermore, the expansion morphologies and process of the SWLB are predicted by our theoretical model based on the energy change of buckle propagation. Our work not only demonstrates the emerging SWLB mode in a solid material but also sheds light on the significance of interfacial water nanolayers to structural deformation and functional applications of thin films.

SQL injection (SQLI) black-box detection, which simulates external attack scenarios, is crucial for assessing vulnerabilities in real-world web applications. However, existing black-box detection methods rely on predefined rules to cover the most common SQLI cases, lacking diversity in vulnerability detection scheduling and payload, suffering from limited efficiency and accuracy. Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown significant advancements in several domains, so we developed SqliGPT, an LLM-powered SQLI black-box scanner that leverages the advanced contextual understanding and reasoning abilities of LLMs. Our approach introduces the Strategy Selection Module to improve detection efficiency and the Defense Bypass Module to address insufficient defense mechanisms. We evaluated SqliGPT against six state-of-the-art scanners using our SqliMicroBenchmark. Our evaluation results indicate that SqliGPT successfully detected all 45 targets, outperforming other scanners, particularly on targets with insufficient defenses. Additionally, SqliGPT demonstrated excellent efficiency in executing detection tasks, slightly underperforming Arachni and SQIRL on 27 targets but besting them on the other 18 targets. This study highlights the potential of LLMs in SQLI black-box detection and demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of LLMs in enhancing detection efficiency and accuracy.

Recently, significant achievements have been made in the gas exploration of marine Longmaxi shale in China. As exploration efforts have advanced, the exploration targets have gradually expanded to other sedimentary systems (marine-continental transitional and lacustrine). Compared with marine shale, shale in other sedimentary systems shows stronger heterogeneity, rendering previous exploration experiences of marine shale ineffective in guiding exploration efforts. Therefore, there is a pressing need for comparative studies to support future exploration practices. In this paper, the marine Longmaxi Formation and the marine-continental transitional Longtan Formation shales in the Lintanchang area of the southeastern of the Sichuan Basin are selected as the research objects. The study aims to compare the mineralogical characteristics, pore systems, and methane adsorption capacities of these two sets of shales, thereby revealing the differences in controlling factors that affect their physical properties and methane adsorption capacities. Our results show that the Longtan shale exhibits a higher clay mineral content, while the Longmaxi shale demonstrates significantly higher siliceous mineral content. Compare with Longmaxi shale, the Longtan shale exhibits a wider distribution range and higher average value of TOC content. The pore system in the Longmaxi shale is primarily dominated by organic matter-related pores, whereas the Longtan shale is characterized by clay mineral-related pores as the primary pore type. Given the variance in sedimentary environments, the controlling factors of physical properties differ significantly between the two sets of shales. In the case of the Longmaxi shale, TOC content is the most influential factor governing physical properties, while clay mineral content exerts the most significant influence on physical properties in the Longtan shale. Furthermore, TOC content emerges as the primary factor affecting methane adsorption capacity in both the Longmaxi and Longtan shales, despite the presence of significant variations in their pore systems. Nevertheless, the specific mechanisms through which TOC content impacts methane adsorption capacity exhibit variations between the two distinct shale types under investigation. The difference in sedimentary environment leads to various effects of mineral composition on methane adsorption capacity. Therefore, in the future research, the influences of different factors on methane adsorption capacity should be studied in combination with the sedimentary background.

Abstract Manganese‐based oxides are promising cathode materials for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) while suffering from poor reaction kinetics and structure collapse, resulting in inferior rate capability and cycling stability. Herein, an efficient crystal and surface engineering strategy is proposed to enhance the electron transfer ability of amorphous MnO2 and prevent its structure deformation during the Zn ion storage process. With the synergetic effect of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) coating and Co‐doping, the Zn//PEDOT@Co‐MnO2 (PCMO) batteries show a high capacity of 298.9 mAh g−1 at the current density of 1 A g−1, a superior rate capability of 50.2% capacity retention at 10 A g−1, and outstanding cycling stability of 92.3% capacity retention after 1000 continuous cycles, significantly surpassing Zn//MnO2 (MO) and Zn//Co‐MnO2 (CMO) batteries in all aspects. Moreover, the peak energy density based on the mass of PCMO can reach 375 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 1.25 kW kg−1, which is better than most recently reported aqueous energy storage devices, including AZIBs, supercapacitors, lead‐acid batteries, and nickel‐based alkaline batteries. This work provides valuable information for designing advanced high‐performance Mn‐based cathodes for AZIBs.

In this work, the Permian Longtan marine-continental transitional shale in the southeast of Sichuan Basin was taken as study object. Through petrology and geochemical analysis, lithofacies types of the marine-continental transitional shale were classified, key controlling factors of physical properties and gas content of the different shale lithofacies were analyzed. The research results show that the Longtan Formation marine-continental transitional shale in the study area has four types of lithofacies, namely, organic-lean calcareous shale, organic-lean mixed shale, organic-lean argillaceous shale, and organic-rich argillaceous shale, among which the organic-rich argillaceous shale is the most favorable lithofacies of the study area. The pore types of different lithofacies vary significantly and the clay mineral-related pore is the dominant type of the pore system in the study area. The main controlling factor of the physical properties is clay mineral content, and the most important factor affecting gas content is TOC content. Compared with marine shale, the marine-continental transitional shale has low average values, wide distribution range, and strong heterogeneity in TOC content, porosity, and pore structure parameters, but still contains some favorable layers with high physical properties and gas contents. The organic-rich clay shale deposited in tidal flat-lagoon system is most likely to form shale gas sweet spots, so it should be paid more attention in shale gas exploration.

The study of the mechanical properties of twisted van der Waals structures can provide important information about their interlayer coupling and electronic behaviour. Here, the authors report a nanoindentation-based technique to determine the interlayer shear stress in bilayer MoS2, showing its independence as a function of the twist angle.

Soil amendments may enhance crop yield and quality by increasing soil nutrient levels and improving nutrient absorption efficiency, potentially through beneficial microbial interactions. In this work, the effects of amending soil with straw-based carbon substrate (SCS), a novel biochar material, on soil nutrients, soil microbial communities, and maize yield were compared with those of soil amendment with conventional straw. The diversity and abundance of soil bacterial and fungal communities were significantly influenced by both the maize growth period and the treatment used. Regression analysis of microbial community variation indicated that Rhizobiales, Saccharimonadales, and Eurotiales were the bacterial and fungal taxa that exhibited a positive response to SCS amendment during the growth stages of maize. Members of these taxa break down organic matter to release nutrients that promote plant growth and yield. In the seedling and vegetative stages of maize growth, the abundance of Rhizobiales is positively correlated with the total nitrogen (TN) content in the soil. During the tasseling and physiological maturity stages of corn, the abundance of Saccharimonadales and Eurotiales is positively correlated with the content of total carbon (TC), total phosphorus (TP), and available phosphorus (AP) in the soil. The results suggest that specific beneficial microorganisms are recruited at different stages of maize growth to supply the nutrients required at each stage. This targeted recruitment strategy optimizes the availability of nutrients to plants and ultimately leads to higher yields. The identification of these key beneficial microorganisms may provide a theoretical basis for the targeted improvement of crop yield and soil quality. This study demonstrates that SCS amendment enhances soil nutrient content and crop yield compared with conventional straw incorporation and sheds light on the response of soil microorganisms to SCS amendment, providing valuable insights for the future implementation of this material.

Skeletal muscle satellite cells have the ability to differentiate into various cells under different conditions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different concentrations of oleic acid (50, 100, and 200 µmol/L) on the process of lipogenic transdifferentiation in Yanbian bovine satellite cells, as well as its molecular regulatory mechanism. After inducing differentiation with oleic acid for 96 h, it was observed that the addition of oleic acid resulted in the formation of lipid droplets in the bovine satellite cells, and the triglyceride content showed a dose-dependent relationship with the concentration of OA. qPCR results demonstrated a significant downregulation of myogenesis-related factors (Pax3 and MyoD) and upregulation of lipogenesis-related factors (C/EBP-β and PPARγ) (p < 0.05). Fatty acid metabolism-related factors, SCD and PLIN2, were also significantly upregulated (p < 0.05). These finding were consistent with the results obtained from Western blotting. Transcriptome sequencing analysis identified 278 differentially expressed genes between the control group and the groups treated with OA. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that differentially expressed genes were mainly concentrated in the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase signaling pathway and fatty acid metabolic pathway. Our study presents that the OA induction of Yanbian bovine skeletal muscle satellite cells can promote cellular lipid transdifferentiation and reveals the potential genes and pathways related to OA induction of these satellite cells.

The features of source rock hydrocarbon generation, expulsion, and retention are essential factors in petroleum resource potential evaluation. In this study, the improved hydrocarbon generation potential evaluation method was used to quantify the characteristics of the source rocks of the first member of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation (Es1) in the Nanpu Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, NE China. Based on the geological and geochemical data for the source rocks, the favorable exploration areas were predicted and the resource potential was evaluated. Our results show that Es1 is a set of high-quality source rocks with desirable geological (maximum thickness > 600 m) and geochemical (average total organic carbon content of 1.44%; dominantly type II kerogen; mature stage) characteristics. The improved hydrocarbon generation potential model shows that the hydrocarbon expulsion threshold is located at Ro=1.0%. The maximum hydrocarbon generation potential (Qg), hydrocarbon expulsion potential (Qe), hydrocarbon retention potential (Qs), and efficient hydrocarbon retention potential (Qse) are 549.31, 162.20, 387.11, and 287.11 mg HC/g TOC, respectively. The maximum hydrocarbon generation, expulsion, retention, and effective retention intensities are 250×104, 70×104, 180×104, and 150×104 t/km2, respectively. These parameters reach the highest value in the Linque and Caofeidian Sub-sag. The resource potential of the retention shale oil, the movable shale oil, and the conventional and the tight petroleum resources are 1.99×108, 4.38×108, and 1.37×108 t oil equivalent, respectively. This study offers a fresh and plain but operable workflow for resource evaluation, which can be applied in other petroliferous basins with low degree of exploration.

Ciglitazone is a member of the thiazolidinedione family, and specifically binds to peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ), thereby promoting adipocyte differentiation. We hypothesized that ciglitazone as a PPARγ ligand in the absence of an adipocyte differentiation cocktail would increase adiponectin and adipogenic gene expression in bovine satellite cells (BSC). Muscle-derived BSCs were isolated from six, 18-month-old Yanbian Yellow Cattle. The BSC were cultured for 96 h in differentiation medium containing 5 µM ciglitazone (CL), 10 µM ciglitazone (CM), or 20 µM ciglitazone (CH). Control (CON) BSC were cultured only in a differentiation medium (containing 2% horse serum). The presence of myogenin, desmin, and paired box 7 (Pax7) proteins was confirmed in the BSC by immunofluorescence staining. The CL, CM, and CH treatments produced higher concentrations of triacylglycerol and lipid droplet accumulation in myotubes than those of the CON treatment. Ciglitazone treatments significantly increased the relative expression of PPARγ, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (C/EBPα), C/EBPβ, fatty acid synthase, stearoyl-CoA desaturase, and perilipin 2. Ciglitazone treatments increased gene expression of Pax3 and Pax7 and decreased expression of myogenic differentiation-1, myogenin, myogenic regulatory factor-5, and myogenin-4 (p < 0.01). Adiponectin concentration caused by ciglitazone treatments was significantly greater than CON (p < 0.01). RNA sequencing showed that 281 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found in the treatments of ciglitazone. DEGs gene ontology (GO) analysis showed that the top 10 GO enrichment significantly changed the biological processes such as protein trimerization, negative regulation of cell proliferation, adipocytes differentiation, and cellular response to external stimulus. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis showed that DEGs were involved in the p53 signaling pathway, PPAR signaling pathway, biosynthesis of amino acids, tumor necrosis factor signaling pathway, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and Wnt signaling pathway. These results indicate that ciglitazone acts as PPARγ agonist, effectively increases the adiponectin concentration and adipogenic gene expression, and stimulates the conversion of BSC to adipocyte-like cells in the absence of adipocyte differentiation cocktail.

Abstract Background Rice, which serves as a staple food for more than half of the world’s population, is grown worldwide. The hybridization of wild and cultivated rice has enabled the incorporation of resistance to varying environmental conditions. Endophytic microbiota are known to be transferred with their host plants. Although some studies have reported on the endophytic microbiota of wild and cultivated rice, the inheritance from wild and cultivated rice accessions in next generations, in terms of endophytic microbiota, has not been examined. Results In the present study, the endophytic microbial community structures of Asian and African wild and cultivated rice species were compared with those of their F1 offspring. High-throughput sequencing data of bacterial 16S rDNA and fungal internal transcribed spacer regions were used to classify the endophytic microbiota of collected samples of rice. Results indicated that when either African or Asian wild rice species were crossed with cultivated rice accessions, the first generation harbored a greater number of root endophytic fungi than the cultivated parent used to make the crosses. Network analysis of the bacterial and fungal operational taxonomic units revealed that Asian and African wild rice species clustered together and exhibited a greater number of significant correlations between fungal taxa than cultivated rice. The core bacterial genus Acidovorax and the core fungal order Pleosporales, and genera Myrothecium and Bullera connected African and Asian wild rice accessions together, and both the wild rice accessions with their F1 offspring. On the other hand, the core bacterial genus Bradyrhizobium and the core fungal genera Dendroclathra linked the African and Asian cultivated rice accessions together. Conclusions This study has theoretical significance for understanding the effect of breeding on the inheritance of endophytic microbiota of rice and identifying beneficial endophytic bacteria and fungi among wild and cultivated rice species, and their F1 offspring.

The reservoir properties, diagenetic features and evolution of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation (Es) in the Nanpu sag, Bohai Bay Basin were analyzed based on mineralogical and petrological data, and the main controlling factors and formation mechanisms of medium to deep high-quality reservoir were revealed by multiple regression analysis. The results show that the sedimentary microfacies, rigid grains content, and dissolution process are the key factors controlling the formation of high-quality clastic reservoir in middle to deep depth in the Nanpu sag. The formation mechanisms of middle to deep sandstones of the Es in different structural belts differ widely in formation mechanism. The Es1 (uppermost member of Es) sandstone reservoirs in the Nanpu No.3 structural belt is low porosity, moderate to high permeability reservoir in the mesodiagenesis A2 stage on the whole, and the formation of high-quality reservoirs is mainly attributed to strong compaction resistance ability primarily, and dissolution process secondarily. The Es3 (third member of Es) sandstones in Gaoshangpu structural belt is classified as tight sandstones in the mesodiagenesis A1 stage, in which the development of favorable reservoirs is primarily controlled by dissolution. This study provides references for reservoir evaluation of deep clastic reservoirs and exploration deployment in the Bohai Bay rift basin. As there are high-quality reservoirs, it is believed that the deep clastic reservoirs in the eastern of China, such as Bohai Bay Basin still have significant exploration potential. The barriers caused by continuous tillage have had a negative impact on the crop and soil environment. Black soils are economically important as a valuable natural resource in Northeast China, but limited soil resources have led to continuous planting of major food crops and medicinal plants. At present, the extent to which two different types of plants—grains and medicinal plants that are successively grown on the same soil—have an impact on soil quality and microbiology is not known. In this study, we investigated the effects of different types of long-term continuous cropping on soil and soil microbial communities by determining the physicochemical properties, the soil community composition and function of grain crops and medicinal-plant soils with more than five years of continuous cropping, as well as fallow soils. The results showed that long-term continuous cropping reduced the pH of different types of soils, but there was no significant difference in the content of AK. The relative abundance of beneficial dominant phyla, such as Actinomycetes, Acidobacteria, and Green Campylobacter decreased and the relative abundance of pathogenic genera such as Alternaria and Didymellaceae, increased after the long-term continuous cropping of DM (grain crops) and DG (medicinal plants). Specifically, continuous cropping increased the relative abundance of fungi with pathogenic potential, such as Sordariomycetes, Dothideomycetes, Saccharomycetes, and Mucoromycetes in grain soils and Agaricostilbomycetes in herb soils. Among the soil physicochemical properties, NH4+-N and pH were the most important factors contributing to changes in the composition of bacterial and fungal communities, respectively. Continuous cropping of different types of plants altered the diversity of the microbial communities, with the most significant effect from the continuous cropping of food crops. Our findings provide a scientific and theoretical basis for future agricultural research to improve soil microbial activity, mitigate continuous-cropping barriers, and increase productivity.

Shale oil is a vital alternative energy source for oil and gas and has recently received an extensive attention. Characterization of the shale oil content provides an important guiding significance for resource potential evaluation, sweet spot prediction, and development of shale oil. In this paper, the mechanism, evaluation and influencing factors of oil retention in shales are reviewed. Oil is retained in shales through adsorption and swelling of kerogen, adsorption onto minerals and storage in shale pores. Quite a few methods are developed for oil content evaluation, such as three-dimensional fluorescence quantitation, two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (2D NMR), solvent extraction, pyrolysis, multiple extraction-multiple pyrolysis-multiple chromatography, logging calculation, statistical regression, pyrolysis simulation experiment, and mass balance calculation. However, the limitations of these methods represent a challenge in practical applications. On this basis, the influencing factors of the oil retention are summarized from the microscale to the macroscale. The oil retention capacity is comprehensively controlled by organic matter abundance, type and maturity, mineral composition and diagenesis, oil storage space, shale thickness, and preservation conditions. Finally, oil mobility evaluation methods are introduced, mainly including the multitemperature pyrolysis, 2D NMR, and adsorption-swelling experiment, and the influencing factors of movable shale oil are briefly discussed. The aim of this paper is to deepen the understanding of shale oil evaluation and provide a basis for further research.

Petrological analysis, thin-section observation and laboratory analysis data were selected to systematically study the physical and diagenetic features of the first member of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation (Es 1 ) in the No. 3 structural belt of the Nanpu Sag, Bohai Bay Basin. The intensities of different diagenetic processes were determined, the diagenetic evolution sequence was reconstructed, the typical diagenetic facies were identified and the effects of different diageneses on the reservoir were quantitatively analyzed. The results show that the main intergranular fillings include authigenic-quartz, quartz secondary enlargement, clay minerals, carbonate cement and matrix. The pore types include intergranular porosity, dissolution porosity and microfractures. The reservoir has experienced compaction, early cementation, dissolution and late cementation, among which compaction is the most important porosity reducer. Compaction was the main diagenetic process involved in porosity reduction, accounting for about 24.4% of the loss of thin-section porosity. The dissolution process clearly improved the porosity, increasing thin-section porosity by 2.7%. Five diagenetic facies were identified on the basis of petrographic analyses, namely, (a) strongly compacted-weakly cemented-weakly dissolved facies; (b) weakly compacted-strongly cemented-weakly dissolved facies; (c) moderately compacted-moderately cemented-weakly dissolved facies; (d) strongly compacted-weakly cemented-moderately dissolved facies; and (e) strongly compacted-weakly cemented-strongly dissolved facies. According to the analysis of diagenesis intensity, the porosity evolution model of various diagenetic facies was reconstructed, and the reservoir quality of various diagenetic facies was quantitatively predicted. The reservoir quality of different diagenetic facies clearly changed with depth. The best reservoir quality was in strongly compacted–weakly cemented–strongly dissolution facies, which have good sorting, contain a large amount of feldspar and soluble debris, and are mainly developed in the main part of the river channel. Our study can provide a reference for the subsequent exploration and development of deep petroleum systems.

IoT web fuzzing is an effective way to detect security flaws in IoT devices. However, without enough information of the tested targets, IoT web fuzzing is often blind and inefficient. In this paper, we propose to use static analysis to assist IoT web fuzzing. Our insight is that plenty of useful information is hidden in firmwares, which can be mined by static analysis and used to guide the subsequent dynamic analysis—fuzzing. Hence, our approach contains two stages: pre-fuzzing stage and fuzzing stage. In the pre-fuzzing stage, we perform static analysis on the IoT firmwares to exploit helpful information, such as web page paths, interfaces, and shared keywords. These kinds of information are used to construct diverse seeds for covering more web paths and interfaces, and are also used to prioritize seeds according to their importance (related to shared keywords) in the fuzzing stage. Based on this approach, we implement a prototype IoT web fuzzing system—IoTParser. Experiments show that IoTParser increased the vulnerability discovery capability by 44% on average, while increasing the vulnerability discovery efficiency by 48.2% on average compared with state-of-the-art IoT web fuzzer. In addition, IoTParser has found 13 vulnerabilities, including 7 0-day.

In recent years, new oil reservoirs have been discovered in the middle Jurassic tight mixed rocks of the Turpan–Hami Basin. However, the generation potential of the J 2 q 2 source rocks remains poorly understood. Petrographic, petrological, and geochemical analyses were carried out to assess the quality of the J 2 q 2 source and reservoir rocks. The hydrocarbon generation potential method was utilized to evaluate the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion potentials. The results indicated that the rocks can be classified as high-quality source rocks with a relative lower degree of maturity. The hydrocarbon bearing zones are classified as tight reservoirs (average porosity of 5.90% and permeability of 0.18 mD) with an average pore throat radius >150 nm, which is higher than the cut-off pore-throat radius. The source rocks start to expel hydrocarbons when R o % is 0.56%. Bulk hydrocarbon generation and expulsion intensities in the center of the study area were calculated with the values of 900 × 10 4 t/km 2 and 400 × 10 4 t/km 2 , while the weights of these hydrocarbons were 48.8 × 10 8 t and 27.3 × 10 8 t, respectively. The tight oil reservoir-forming conditions are superior, and the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion intensities are more remarkable in controlling the tight oil distribution. This study provides an important example for the Jurassic source rocks in Western China, and indicates that middle Jurassic lacustrine source rocks deserve attention in future exploration.

The complex and heterogeneous pore structure and oil content of lacustrine shales introduce significant challenges in the exploration of shale petroleum systems. To further expand our geological understanding of lacustrine shales and provide guidance for hydrocarbon exploration, in this study, based on programmed and improved Rock-Eval pyrolysis, total organic content (TOC) measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations, and N2 adsorption (NA) experiments, a systematic evaluation of the mineral composition, geochemical features, pore structure, and oil contents of the third member of the Paleogene Shahejie Formation (Es3) shale in the typical lacustrine hydrocarbon enrichment sag (Nanpu Sag, Bohai Bay Basin) is conducted. The fractal theory is selected to quantify the pore system’s heterogeneity; also, the relationships between the pore structure parameters and the oil contents and mineral composition are revealed. Our results reveal the geochemical features of the Es3 shale are excellent, and thus, they can be classified as a set of high-quality source rocks (average TOC of 4.2%, mainly type II kerogen, and in the mature stage). Based on the SEM and NA analyses, the intercrystalline pores dominate the pore system. Moreover, the mesopores contribute the most specific surface area (SA) and pore volume (PV) to the samples (average contribution rates of 74.7 and 75.0%, respectively). The fractal dimensions have relatively strong positive correlations with PV and SA, which means more heterogeneous and complex pore structures provide more storage space and adsorption sites for shale oil accumulation. The clay mineral content is the most important factor which controls the pore structure parameter, and high clay content indicates high SA and PV. According to proposed numerical movable and adsorption hydrocarbon calculation models, the TOC content is the dominant factor controlling the movable and adsorption oil contents, but other factors’ impact also cannot be ignored. Our study not only provides guidance for shale oil exploration in the study area but also broadens our understanding of the oil contents of lacustrine shale.

Mutation-based greybox fuzzing is a highly effective and widely used technique to find bugs in software. Provided initial seeds, fuzzers continuously generate test cases to test the software by mutating a seed input. However, the majority of them are “invalid” because the mutation may destroy the format of the seeds. In this paper, we present a knowledge-learn evolutionary fuzzer based on AFL, which is called LearnAFL. LearnAFL does not require any prior knowledge of the application or input format. Based on our format generation theory, LearnAFL can learn partial format knowledge of some paths by analyzing the test cases that exercise the paths. Then LearnAFL uses these format information to mutate the seeds, which is efficient to explore deeper paths and reduce the test cases exercising high-frequency paths than AFL. We compared LearnAFL with AFL and some other state-of-the-art fuzzers on ten real-world programs. The result showed that LearnAFL could reach branch coverage 120% and 110% of that of AFL and FairFuzz, respectively. LearnAFL also found 8 unknown vulnerabilities in GNU Binutils, Libpng and Gif2png, all of which have been reported to the vendors. Besides, we compared the format information learned from the initial seed of an ELF file with a format standard of ELF files. The result showed that LearnAFL learns about 64% part of the file format without any prior knowledge.

Rice straw is a byproduct of agricultural production and an important agricultural resource. However, rice straw has not yet been effectively used, and incorrect treatment methods (such as burning in the field) can cause serious damage to the environment. Studies have shown that straw returning is beneficial to soil, but there have been few studies focused on the effect of the amount of short-term straw returned on the soil microbial community. This study evaluates 0%, 50%, 75%, and 100% rice straw returned to the field on whether returning different amounts of straw in the short term would affect the diversity and composition of the soil microbial community and the correlation between bacteria and fungi. The results show that the amount of straw returned to the field is the main factor that triggers the changes in the abundance and composition of the microbial community in the paddy soil. A small amount of added straw (≤50% straw added) mainly affects the composition of the bacterial community, while a larger amount of added straw (>50% straw added) mainly affects the composition of the fungal community. Returning a large amount of straw increases the microbial abundance related to carbon and iron cycles in the paddy soil, thus promoting the carbon and iron cycle processes to a certain extent. In addition, network analysis shows that returning a large amount of straw also increases the complexity of the microbial network, which may encourage more microbes to be niche-sharing and comprehensively improve the ecological environment of paddy soil. This study may provide some useful guidance for rice straw returning in northeast China.

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are next-generation intelligent systems that integrate computing, communication, and control. Malicious attacks on CPSs can lead to both property damage and casualties. Therefore, it is worth surveying CPS security by reviewing and analyzing the latest high-quality related works. In this paper, we provide an overview of the CPS security studies from the last five years and select 142 related works from A- or B-level conferences/journals recommended by the China Computer Federation (CCF). First, we review the main contents of the selected papers and classify them into 24 topics. Then, we analyze hotspots and trends of CPS security technologies in three dimensions: (1) architecture layers (perception, network, and application); (2) application scenarios (smart grids, health care, smart transportation, smart homes, and general grids); and (3) MADC (Measure, Attack, Defense, and Control) types. Finally, we also perform a statistical analysis in terms of paper publication times, author institutes, countries, and sponsors to show the current worldwide CPS security research situation.

At present, embedded devices have become a part of people’s lives, so detecting security vulnerabilities contained in devices becomes imperative. There are three challenges in detecting embedded device vulnerabilities: (1) Most network protocols are stateful; (2) the communication between the web front-end and the device is encrypted or encoded; and (3) the conditional constraints of programs in the device reduce the depth and breadth of fuzz testing. To address these challenges, we propose a new type of gray-box fuzz testing framework in this paper, called EWVHunter, which is mainly used to find authentication bypass and command injection vulnerabilities in embedded devices. The key idea in this paper is based on the observation that most embedded devices are controlled through the web front-end. Such embedded devices often contain rich information in the communication protocol between the web front-end and device. Therefore, by filling data at the input source on the web front-end and reusing web front-end program logic, we can effectively solve the impact of the stateful network protocol and communication data encryption on fuzzing without relying on any knowledge about the communication protocol. Additionally, we use firmware information extraction to enhance EWVHunter so that it can detect vulnerabilities in deep layer codes and hidden interfaces. In our research, we implemented EWVHunter and evaluated 8 real-world embedded devices, and our approach identified 12 vulnerabilities (including 7 zero-days), which affect a total of 31,996 online devices.

Van der Waals heterojunctions based on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) show promising potential in optoelectronic devices, due to the ultrafast separation of photoexcited carriers and efficient generation of the photocurrent. Herein, this study demonstrated a high-responsivity photovoltaic photodetector based on a MoTe2/MoSe2 type-II heterojunction. Due to the interlayer built-in potential, the MoTe2/MoSe2 heterojunction shows obvious photovoltaic behavior and its photoresponse can be tuned by the gate voltage due to the ultrathin thickness of the heterojunction. This self-powered photovoltaic photodetector exhibits an excellent responsivity of 1.5 A W−1, larger than previously reported TMDs-based photovoltaic photodetectors. Due to the high-efficiency separation of electron-hole pairs and ultrafast charge transfer, the light-induced on/off ratio of current switching is larger than 104 at zero bias, and the dark current is extremely low (~10−13 A). These MoTe2/MoSe2 type-II heterojunctions are expected to provide more opportunities for future nanoscale optoelectronic devices.

The transcription factor Sox4 plays an indispensable role in the development of early progenitor B cells from hematopoietic stem cells. However, its role in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a malignant counterpart of normal progenitor B cells, is not fully understood. Here we show that SOX4 is highly expressed in human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells. To systematically study the function of Sox4 in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, we established a genetically defined mouse leukemia model by transforming progenitor B cells carrying a floxed Sox4 allele and inducing deletion of the allele by the self-excising Cre recombinase. This model allowed us to work with two groups of leukemic cells that had either one copy or both copies of Sox4 deleted. We found that depletion of Sox4 in transformed cells in vitro reduced cell growth in vitro and the progression of leukemia in vivo. Moreover, depletion of Sox4 in leukemic cells in vivo prolonged the survival of the mice, suggesting that it could be a potential target in acute lymphoblastic leukemia therapy. Our microarray and bioChIP studies revealed that Tcf7l1 was the key gene directly regulated by Sox4. Knockdown of Tcf7l1 reduced cell proliferation, just as did knockout of Sox4, and ectopic expression of Tcf7l1 could reverse the effect of Sox4 knockout on cell proliferation. These data suggest that Sox4 and Tcf7l1 form a functional axis that promotes the progression of BCR-ABL-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
