Corrective osteotomies of the forearm based on 3D computer simulation using contralateral anatomy as a reconstruction template is an approved method. Limitations are existing considerable differences between left and right forearms, and that a healthy contralateral anatomy is required. We evaluated if a computer model, not relying on the contralateral anatomy, may replace the current method by predicting the pre-traumatic healthy shape. A statistical shape model (SSM) was generated from a set of 59 CT scans of healthy forearms, encoding the normal anatomical variations. Three different configurations were simulated to predict the pre-traumatic shape with the SSM (cross-validation). In the first two, only the distal or proximal 50% of the radius were considered as pathological. In a third configuration, the entire radius was assumed to be pathological, only the ulna being intact. Corresponding experiments were performed with the ulna. Accuracy of the prediction was assessed by comparing the predicted bone with the healthy model. For the radius, mean rotation accuracy of the prediction between 2.9 ± 2.2° and 4.0 ± 3.1° in pronation/supination, 0.4 ± 0.3° and 0.6 ± 0.5° in flexion/extension, between 0.5 ± 0.3° and 0.5 ± 0.4° in radial-/ulnarduction. Mean translation accuracy along the same axes between 0.8 ± 0.7 and 1.0 ± 0.8 mm, 0.5 ± 0.4 and 0.6 ± 0.4 mm, 0.6 ± 0.4 and 0.6 ± 0.5 mm, respectively. For the ulna, mean rotation accuracy between 2.4 ± 1.9° and 4.7 ± 3.8° in pronation/supination, 0.3 ± 0.3° and 0.8 ± 0.6° in flexion/extension, 0.3 ± 0.2° and 0.7 ± 0.6° in radial-/ulnarduction. Mean translation accuracy between 0.6 ± 0.4 mm and 1.3 ± 0.9 mm, 0.4 ± 0.4 mm and 0.7 ± 0.5 mm, 0.5 ± 0.4 mm and 0.8 ± 0.6 mm, respectively. Furthermore, we apply this result to the hyperbolic density and give a covering theorem.

Observations of multiple rotational transitions from a single molecule allow for unparalleled constraints on the physical conditions of the emitting region. We present an analysis of CS in TW~Hya using the $J=7-6$, $5-4$ and $3-2$ transitions imaged at $\sim 0.5^{\prime\prime}$ spatial resolution, resulting in a temperature and column density profile of the CS emission region extending out to 230~au, far beyond previous measurements. In addition, the 15~kHz resolution of the observations and the ability to directly estimate the temperature of the CS emitting gas, allow for one of the most sensitive searches for turbulent broadening in a disk to date. Limits of $v_{\rm turb} \lesssim 0.1 c_s$ can be placed across the entire radius of the disk. We are able to place strict limits of the local H$_2$ density due to the collisional excitations of the observed transitions. From these we find that a minimum disk mass of $3 \times 10^{-4}~M_{\rm sun}$ is required to be consistent with the CS excitation conditions and can uniquely constrain the gas surface density profile in the outer disk., Comment: Accepted by ApJ

A rotary charging apparatus (RCA) has been in use on 1033-m3 at the Bhilai Metallurgical Plant (in India) since 1998. The RCA is a new type of charging apparatus in which the main working element is a five-vane revolving charge distributor that provides for multi-flow, multi-layered distribution of the charge materials in the top of the furnace. The revolving distributor makes it possible to flexibly and efficiently regulate the distribution of the materials over the entire radius of the top by changing the speed and direction of rotation of the rotor. The operational and design features of the RCA ensure a higher quality distribution of the materials in the top, which in turn leads to a significant savings of coke and an increase in furnace productivity. The total cost of maintaining and repairing the RCA is proving to be substantially lower than the corresponding costs for standard double-bell-and-hopper and chute-type charging apparatuses. The investment in the RCA is recovered in six months or less.

Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis was used to obtain distribution profiles of Na, K, Cl, P and S in rapidly frozen-dried bulk specimens, and in cryosections of the normal rat lens. Na and Cl are highly concentrated in the capsule, and K and P, in the epithelial cells. Profiles of the entire radius of a lens show relatively high concentrations of K and P in the outermost cells of the lens, with decreasing concentrations through the cortex, and a minimum throughout the nuclear region. S, on the other hand, shows increasing concentrations at deeper locations, with maximum values throughout the nuclear region.

New high performance discs for turbo-molecular pumps have been developed based on the following concepts: o 1. Tests have shown that the compression ratio and the pumping speed are best at optical opaqueness of the discs. 2. In order to obtain the maximum compression ratios and pumping speeds very high circumferential speeds are necessary. These, however, are limited by the material strength of the blades. Discs have been found which, due to a favourable blade shape, permit a considerable increase in the number of revolutions per second, and, in addition, are optically opaque over the entire radius. The accuracy of the design concepts and analysis to make high performance discs in such a manner which are superior to all existing discs has been confirmed by experiments.
