The art industry in Mexico has enjoyed six years of unparalleled public and private support, but the devaluation of the peso and the troubled economic realities in the country almost certainly will bring the support to an end. However, those within the industry view the situation as temporary.

Mexican artist Monica Castillo finds her self an interesting subject of her paintings. However, unlike other painters, Castillo reworks her portrait repetitively through the use of rare materials such as hair, fingernail clippings and bread.

Museo Salinas reflects Mexicans' despise over their former president, Carlos Salinas. The artwork, designed by Vicente Razo, feautures amulets, icons, caricahures and puppets which all possess Salina's face.

Recent reports have revealed that there is a possibility that Centro Cultural/Arte Contemporaneo A.C. will be closed due to financial cutbacks. Centro Cultural is Latin America's most distinguished art museum which features high-quality publications and exhibits.

Director Silvia Pandolfi of the Alvaro T. and Carmen T. de Carrillo Gil Museum of Art in Mexico has overseen a vital and ongoing program for contemporary art, high tech, and art history. Even though the country's economic crisis has necessitated budget cuts, the program has continued.
