Machine learning technologies are being integrated into robotic systems faster to enhance their efficacy and adaptability in dynamic environments. The primary goal of this research was to propose a method to develop an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) that integrates Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), odometry, and artificial vision based on deep learning (DL). All are executed on a high-performance Jetson Nano embedded system, specifically emphasizing SLAM-based obstacle avoidance and path planning using the Adaptive Monte Carlo Localization (AMCL) algorithm. Two Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) were selected due to their proven effectiveness in image and pattern recognition tasks. The ResNet18 and YOLOv3 algorithms facilitate scene perception, enabling the robot to interpret its environment effectively. Both algorithms were implemented for real-time object detection, identifying and classifying objects within the robot’s environment. These algorithms were selected to evaluate their performance metrics, which are critical for real-time applications. A comparative analysis of the proposed DL models focused on enhancing vision systems for autonomous mobile robots. Several simulations and real-world trials were conducted to evaluate the performance and adaptability of these models in navigating complex environments. The proposed vision system with CNN ResNet18 achieved an average accuracy of 98.5%, a precision of 96.91%, a recall of 97%, and an F1-score of 98.5%. However, the YOLOv3 model achieved an average accuracy of 96%, a precision of 96.2%, a recall of 96%, and an F1-score of 95.99%. These results underscore the effectiveness of the proposed intelligent algorithms, robust embedded hardware, and sensors in robotic applications. This study proves that advanced DL algorithms work well in robots and could be used in many fields, such as transportation and assembly. As a consequence of the findings, intelligent systems could be implemented more widely in the operation and development of AMRs.

Background: The health crisis due to COVID-19 has changed the habits of social coexistence and therefore has had a significant impact on several economic sectors, including logistics. Nowadays, this sector faces one of the most difficult challenges in history and hence has carried out innovative strategies to adjust to the new normal and guarantee the permanence of the supply chain. In this paper, a novel green logistics technique for planning merchandise deliveries is introduced herein. Methods: This technique is based on a modified version of the Resistive Grid Path Planning Methodology (RGPPM) to establish a path through georeferential locations for delivering merchandise to customers. To do this, multi-connected resistive grids are based at customer locations for searching the path connecting the positions through electronic circuit analysis techniques. Results: Experimental results reveal that the proposed method can find a minimum spanning tree that connects all hand-over points by a continuous path. This finding has represented a reduction of around 45% in the length of the path with respect to the longest path. Conclusions: Finally, this technique is capable of addressing different optimization strategies, locating a merchandise distribution center and exploring environmental standards to reduce fuel consumption.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental life condition characterized by problems with social interaction, low verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and repetitive and restricted behavior. People with ASD usually have variable attention levels because they have hypersensitivity and large amounts of environmental information are a problem for them. Attention is a process that occurs at the cognitive level and allows us to orient ourselves towards relevant stimuli, ignoring those that are not, and act accordingly. This paper presents a methodology based on electroencephalographic (EEG) signals for attention measurement in a 13-year-old boy diagnosed with ASD. The EEG signals are acquired with an Epoc+ Brain–Computer Interface (BCI) via the Emotiv Pro platform while developing several learning activities and using Matlab 2019a for signal processing. For this article, we propose to use electrodes F3, F4, P7, and P8. Then, we calculate the band power spectrum density to detect the Theta Relative Power (TRP), Alpha Relative Power (ARP), Beta Relative Power (BRP), Theta–Beta Ratio (TBR), Theta–Alpha Ratio (TAR), and Theta/(Alpha+Beta), which are features related to attention detection and neurofeedback. We train and evaluate several machine learning (ML) models with these features. In this study, the multi-layer perceptron neural network model (MLP-NN) has the best performance, with an AUC of 0.9299, Cohen’s Kappa coefficient of 0.8597, Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.8602, and Hamming loss of 0.0701. These findings make it possible to develop better learning scenarios according to the person’s needs with ASD. Moreover, it makes it possible to obtain quantifiable information on their progress to reinforce the perception of the teacher or therapist.

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a disease that must be diagnosed quickly, as it can trigger the death of patients. Nowadays, one can find different ways to determine it, including clinical scoring, D-dimer, ultrasonography, etc. Recently, scientists have focused efforts on using machine learning (ML) and neural networks for disease diagnosis, progressively increasing the accuracy and efficacy. Patients with suspected DVT have no apparent symptoms. Using pattern recognition techniques, aiding good timely diagnosis, as well as well-trained ML models help to make good decisions and validation. The aim of this paper is to propose several ML models for a more efficient and reliable DVT diagnosis through its implementation on an edge device for the development of instruments that are smart, portable, reliable, and cost-effective. The dataset was obtained from a state-of-the-art article. It is divided into 85% for training and cross-validation and 15% for testing. The input data in this study are the Wells criteria, the patient’s age, and the patient’s gender. The output data correspond to the patient’s diagnosis. This study includes the evaluation of several classifiers such as Decision Trees (DT), Extra Trees (ET), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP-NN), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Finally, the implementation of these ML models on a high-performance embedded system is proposed to develop an intelligent system for early DVT diagnosis. It is reliable, portable, open source, and low cost. The performance of different ML algorithms was evaluated, where KNN achieved the highest accuracy of 90.4% and specificity of 80.66% implemented on personal computer (PC) and Raspberry Pi 4 (RPi4). The accuracy of all trained models on PC and Raspberry Pi 4 is greater than 85%, while the area under the curve (AUC) values are between 0.81 and 0.86. In conclusion, as compared to traditional methods, the best ML classifiers are effective at predicting DVT in an early and efficient manner.

La Trombosis Venosa Profunda (TVP) es una manifestación de una Enfermedad Tromboembólica (ET). Cuando en una TVP los trombos venosos se desprenden y viajan a través del torrente sanguíneo pueden ocasionar una Trombo Embolia Pulmonar (TEP). La existencia de Trombosis Venosa Profunda (TVP) en las extremidades inferiores se ha descrito como uno de los principales factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de la TEP. Se considera que hasta el 90% de los émbolos pulmonares proceden de trombos venosos de las extremidades inferiores. Las técnicas más utilizadas para la detección de TVP son los modelos de probabilidad clínica, el dímero D y las pruebas de imagen no invasivas, como la ecografía para la TVP y la angiotomografía computadorizada (TC) para el embolismo pulmonar. Sin embargo, debido a la inespecificidad de los síntomas de la TVP, el umbral para ordenar una ecografía es bajo, además de ser un proceso complicado que requiere la participación de un médico especialista para su interpretación. En las últimas décadas el aprendizaje automático ha surgido como apoyo en la toma de decisiones para el diagnóstico de diversas enfermedades, algunas de las tecnologías más utilizadas en el campo de la medicina incluyen Support Vector Machine (SVM), Árboles de decisión y las Redes Neuronales Artificiales (RNA). En el presente artículo se hace una revisión de las tecnologías existentes para la detección de la TVP así como de los principales algoritmos de aprendizaje automático comúnmente utilizados en aplicaciones biomédicas; se propone el diseño de un sistema computarizado que utilice técnicas de aprendizaje automático como herramienta de apoyo para la detección oportuna de un posible padecimiento de TVP.

Nowadays, many cities have problems with traffic congestion at certain peak hours, which produces more pollution, noise and stress for citizens. Neural networks (NN) and machine-learning (ML) approaches are increasingly used to solve real-world problems, overcoming analytical and statistical methods, due to their ability to deal with dynamic behavior over time and with a large number of parameters in massive data. In this paper, machine-learning (ML) and deep-learning (DL) algorithms are proposed for predicting traffic flow at an intersection, thus laying the groundwork for adaptive traffic control, either by remote control of traffic lights or by applying an algorithm that adjusts the timing according to the predicted flow. Therefore, this work only focuses on traffic flow prediction. Two public datasets are used to train, validate and test the proposed ML and DL models. The first one contains the number of vehicles sampled every five minutes at six intersections for 56 days using different sensors. For this research, four of the six intersections are used to train the ML and DL models. The Multilayer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP-NN) obtained better results (R-Squared and EV score of 0.93) and took less training time, followed closely by Gradient Boosting then Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), with good metrics results but the longer training time, and finally Random Forest, Linear Regression and Stochastic Gradient. All ML and DL algorithms scored good performance metrics, indicating that they are feasible for implementation on smart traffic light controllers.

This paper evaluates the nonlinear dynamics of a melanoma cancer model through the iterative technique of finding compact invariant sets (LMCIS). The objective is to discover equilibrium points, ascertain their stability qualities, and determine the presence of compact invariant sets within the model. For instance, this approach is assessed in a model demonstrating the interplay between four cellular populations and administrating interleukin-12 (IL-12) immunotherapy. Nevertheless, the mechanism by which this anti-cancer therapy operates has yet to be completely defined. The approach is evaluated using severe treatment situations to provide evidence for the presence of equilibrium points inside the iteratively confined zone and to assess its effectiveness. The outcomes derived from using this approach were then compared with a conventional iteration of Newton’s method. Newton’s approach extends to the resolution of the system of equations inside the model, facilitating the identification of the equilibrium points with a small tolerance error. While the iterations of the localization algorithm were set close to the results obtained by this method. Finally, the simulation outcomes are shown via the utilization of MATLAB R2020b. The findings demonstrate the temporal progression of the model under the effect of immunotherapy and without it.

In brain–computer interfaces (BCIs), it is crucial to process brain signals to improve the accuracy of the classification of motor movements. Machine learning (ML) algorithms such as artificial neural networks (ANNs), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), decision tree (D.T.), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), naive Bayes (N.B.), and support vector machine (SVM) have made significant progress in classification issues. This paper aims to present a signal processing analysis of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals among different feature extraction techniques to train selected classification algorithms to classify signals related to motor movements. The motor movements considered are related to the left hand, right hand, both fists, feet, and relaxation, making this a multiclass problem. In this study, nine ML algorithms were trained with a dataset created by the feature extraction of EEG signals.The EEG signals of 30 Physionet subjects were used to create a dataset related to movement. We used electrodes C3, C1, CZ, C2, and C4 according to the standard 10-10 placement. Then, we extracted the epochs of the EEG signals and applied tone, amplitude levels, and statistical techniques to obtain the set of features. LabVIEW™2015 version custom applications were used for reading the EEG signals; for channel selection, noise filtering, band selection, and feature extraction operations; and for creating the dataset. MATLAB 2021a was used for training, testing, and evaluating the performance metrics of the ML algorithms. In this study, the model of Medium-ANN achieved the best performance, with an AUC average of 0.9998, Cohen’s Kappa coefficient of 0.9552, a Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.9819, and a loss of 0.0147. These findings suggest the applicability of our approach to different scenarios, such as implementing robotic prostheses, where the use of superficial features is an acceptable option when resources are limited, as in embedded systems or edge computing devices.

Profiling and parallel computing techniques in a cluster of six embedded systems with multiprocessors are introduced herein to implement a chaotic cryptosystem for digital color images. The proposed encryption method is based on stream encryption using a pseudo-random number generator with high-precision arithmetic and data processing in parallel with collective communication. The profiling and parallel computing techniques allow discovery of the optimal number of processors that are necessary to improve the efficiency of the cryptosystem. That is, the processing speed improves the time for generating chaotic sequences and execution of the encryption algorithm. In addition, the high numerical precision reduces the digital degradation in a chaotic system and increases the security levels of the cryptosystem. The security analysis confirms that the proposed cryptosystem is secure and robust against different attacks that have been widely reported in the literature. Accordingly, we highlight that the proposed encryption method is potentially feasible to be implemented in practical applications, such as modern telecommunication devices employing multiprocessors, e.g., smart phones, tablets, and in any embedded system with multi-core hardware.
