This study focuses on young people's marriage behavior, which includes cohabitation, marriage, and plans to marry among the unmarried. The decline in marriages and planning to marry is often explained by the general expansion of education, which contributes to women's economic independence and decision to postpone marrying. Research suggests that religiosity has a greater impact on marriage decisions than either socioeconomic status or education. In this study, we aim to contribute to the literature on how young adults' marriage behavior is influenced by religiosity and socioeconomic status, as measured by education, financial status, and the place of residence. During the analysis, we used data from the Hungarian Youth 2016 survey on young adults aged 18 to 29 years. We examined the determinants of young people's marital status and plans to marry using multinomial and logistic regression analysis. According to our results, the positive effect of religiosity on marriage and plans to marry could be confirmed even after controlling for the influence of education. Although education strengthened plans to get married, it also delayed their occurrence. Furthermore, we found that religiosity increased the chance of cohabitation compared to being single in the sample, but its effect on marriage was stronger. Limitations of this study include our examined age group (18-29 years), as at this age not all marriage decisions had been made, so it was not possible to fully investigate what proportion refrained from marriage entirely.

Studies concerning twins with a sociological focus are scarce in Hungary as well as international research, although the number of twin births has increased dramatically worldwide. The raising and education of twins are tasks demanding special attention from both the family and institutions. In our study we examine these aspects, looking back from adulthood, using the narrow scope of the available data from research based on the 'Hungarostudy 2021' database (N total: 7000; n twins: 106). Our results, corresponding to the hypotheses of educational sociology, demonstrate how the relationships between family size and school career and increasing number of siblings reduces the chances of high educational attainment. A regression analysis confirmed that both the number of siblings and a later position in the birth order reduces the chance of obtaining a higher education. For the second child in a family, the chance of earning a university degree is reduced to to 0.743. The role of a large family concerning higher education showed a stronger relationship in the case of twins compared to nontwins. For twins, the sibling pattern has a decisive effect in educational attainment. Twins themselves have a 1.449 times higher chance of obtaining a higher education compared to nontwins (p = 0.101), and fraternal twins have half (0.517) the chance of obtaining a higher education compared to identical twins; but both results are not significant (p = 0.156). Besides demographic and social background determinants, religiosity is one of the most important factors which influence attitudes towards gender roles. In Europe, egalitarian gender roles have been aided by the eventual ubiquity of wide-ranging freedoms, women's increasing labour force participation in the post-socialist regions, the drastic decline in fertility, and state-sponsored secularisation. In this study, we examine Hungarian higher education students' views on gender roles using a nation-wide sample (N=1502, 2017). We create a typology with two modern attitude types beside the traditional view on gender roles, namely the pragmatic-instrumental and postmaterialist-postmodern types. We employ multinomial regression to analyse the factors which increase the likelihood of each type's occurrence. After accounting for the effect of demographic and social factors, we find that religiosity has a significant impact on the acceptance towards traditional gender roles. In addition, we also record the novel finding that respondents are much likelier to belong to the postmaterialist-postmodern type, which approves of women's labour force participation and favours the father's involvement in the family, if they are religious in the sense that they follow the teaching of a church.
