Bu araştırma farklı düzeylerde ham protein içeren karma yemlerin yumurtacı erkek damızlıkların üreme performansları ve bazı organlarına etkilerini belirlemek amacıyla düzenlenmiştir. Horozlara, 24-54 haftalık yaşlar arasında birinci gruba (K) standart yumurta tavuğu karma yemi (% 16 HP, 2750 kcal/kg ME ve % 4 Ca), diğer 4 gruba (HP-10, HP-12, HP-14, HP-16) farklı düzeylerde ham protein içeren karma yemler (sırasıyla % 10, % 12, % 14, % 16 HP, 2750 kcal/kg ME ve % 0.9 Ca) verilmiştir. Deneme sonu canlı ağırlık, yem tüketimi, semen hacmi, sperma yoğunluğu, canlı sperma oranı, böbrek, testis, toplam iç yağ ve abdominal yağ ağırlık oranları bakımından muameleler arasında önemli farklılıklar bulunmamıştır (P>0.05). Farklı karmalarla yemlenen horozların, tavuklarla suni tohumlama yoluyla yapılan çiftleştirmeleri ile elde edilen yumurtaların damızlık yumurta oranı, döllülük oranı, çıkış gücü ve kuluçka randımanları ile bu yumurtalardan çıkan civcivlerin çıkış ağırlıkları bakımından deneme grupları arasında önemli farklılıklara rastlanmamıştır (P>0.05). Sonuç olarak, ayrı yemleme yapılan yumurtacı erkek damızlıklara yüksek maliyetli tavuk yemlerinin verilmesine gerek yoktur ve damızlık horozlara daha düşük ham protein ve amino asit düzeyli düşük maliyetli karma yemlerin verilebileceği tespit edilmiştir

The aim of this study was to determine egg consumption habits in Turkey. Questionnaires prepared to determine habits regarding egg consumption were supplied to 2241 families. Sampling sizes and sample addresses were provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute. Data obtained through the questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS. Of the families that participated in the study, 98% consume eggs and the number of eggs consumed per person was 158 per year. In addition, 67.82% of the eggs consumed were purchased from supermarkets and 62.40% of the consumers pay most of their attention to the production date. The eggs were most often consumed in the morning, at a percentage of 85.52%, and 70.28% of all of the eggs were boiled for consumption. Egg packaging has an impact on consumer choice at a rate of 67.46%, and eggs packaged in egg trays covered with plastic wrap are preferred at a rate of 58.26%. Eggs with deep yellow yolks were preferred by 81.20% of the families. It was also found that 72.42% of the families were not knowledgeable about organic eggs. It is generally believed that egg consumption will decrease at a rate of 36% in the event of an avian influenza epidemic, as was the case with a previous epidemic in Turkey and around the world. Moreover, 67.11% of consumers believe that government supervision of egg production is inadequate. Egg consumption is low in society. Effective promotion and advertising campaigns about the nutritional value of eggs for a healthy society should be organized to create well-informed consumers.

The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of beak trimming age on performance criteria, H-L ratio, antibody production, the percentage of spleen and liver and external appearance. The chicks (Barred Rock) were randomly divided into 4 beak-trimming groups (non-trimmed (control), a trim at 1 d (1D), at 10 d (10D) and at 10 wk (10W)), each of 132 chicks. There were 6 replicate cages at beak trimming groups at rearing period. At 18 wk of age a total of 144 pullets were transferred to the layer house, and the pullets were housed at 323 and 646 cm(2)/hen with 8 and 4 birds per cage in three-deck layer cages. There were a total of 24 replications with 12 replications equally divided between the high and low density cages, and the beak trimmed treatments were randomly and equally divided within each density. As a result of this experiment differences among groups in body weight in rearing phase were disappear in the laying phase. Low feather condition was found in untrimmed hens. H-L ratio in both pullet and laying phase was higher in hens of untrimmed groups. Cage area affected all examined parameters except that body weight, mortality rate, cracked, broken and unshell egg rates, shell breaking, shape index, shell thickness, meat-blood spot rates, spleen and liver percentages, throat injures and antibody production to SRBC.
