Objective To investigate the incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, hospitalizations and deaths in Iranians vaccinated with either AZD1222 Vaxzevria, CovIran[R] vaccine, SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell), Inactivated (lnCoV) or Sputnik V. Methods We enrolled individuals 18 years or older receiving their first COVID-19 vaccine dose between April 2021 and January 2022 in seven Iranian cities. Participants completed weekly follow-up surveys for 17 weeks (25 weeks for AZD1222) to report their COVID-19 status and hospitalization. We used Cox regression models to assess risk factors for contracting COVID-19, hospitalization and death. Findings Of 89 783 participants enrolled, incidence rates per 1 000 000 person-days were: 528.2 (95% confidence interval, CI: 514.0-542.7) for contracting COVID-19; 55.8 (95% CI: 51.4-60.5) for hospitalization; and 4.1 (95% CI: 3.0-5.5) for death. Compared with SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell), hazard ratios (HR) for contracting COVID-19 were: 0.70 (95% CI: 0.61-0.80) with AZD1222; 0.73 (95% CI: 0.62-0.86) with Sputnik V; and 0.73 (95% CI: 0.63-0.86) with Covlran[R]. For hospitalization and death, all vaccines provided similar protection 14 days after the second dose. History of COVID-19 protected against contracting COVID-19 again (HR: 0.76; 95% CI: 0.69-0.84). Diabetes and respiratory, cardiac and renal disease were associated with higher risks of contracting COVID-19 after vaccination. Conclusion The rates of contracting COVID-19 after vaccination were relatively high. SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell) provided lower protection against COVID-19 than other vaccines. People with comorbidities had higher risks of contracting COVID-19 and hospitalization and should be prioritized for preventive interventions. Compare au vaccin contre le SARS-CoV-2 (cellule Vero), le rapport de risque (RR) de contracter la COVID-19 s'elevait a 0,70 (IC de 95%: 0,61-0,80) avec AZD1222; a 0,73 (IC de 95%: 0,62-0,86) avec Spoutnik V; et a 0,73 (IC de 95%: 0,63-0,86) avec CovIran[R]. Concernant l'hospitalisation et le deces, tous les vaccins offraient un niveau de protection similaire 14 jours apres la seconde dose. Avoir contracte la COVID-19 par le passe premunissait contre une reinfection (RR: 0,76; IC de 95%: 0,69-0,84). Le diabete et les maladies respiratoires, cardiaques et renales entrainaient un risque accru de contracter la COVID-19 apres la vaccination. Conclusion Le taux d'infection a la COVID-19 apres la vaccination etait relativement eleve. D'autre part, le vaccin contre le SARS-CoV-2 (cellule Vero) s'est revele moins efficace que les autres vaccins. En comparacion con la vacuna contra el SARS-CoV-2 (celula Vero), los cocientes de riesgos instantaneos (CRI) de contraer la COVID-19 fueron 0,70 (IC 95 %: 0,61-0,80) con AZD1222; 0,73 (IC 95 %: 0,62-0,86) con Sputnik V; y 0,73 (IC 95 %: 0,63-0,86) con CovIran[R]. En cuanto a la hospitalizacion y la muerte, todas las vacunas proporcionaron una proteccion similar 14 dias despues de la segunda dosis. Los antecedentes de la COVID-19 protegieron contra la contraccion de la COVID-19 de nuevo (CRI: 0,76; IC 95 %: 0,69-0,84). La diabetes y las enfermedades respiratorias, cardiacas y renales se asociaron a un mayor riesgo de contraer la COVID-19 despues de la vacunacion. This study investigated the relationship between sleep quality and circadian rhythm chronotype with uncontrolled hypertension. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 170 patients. Sleep quality is classified into two groups: good sleep quality and poor sleep quality. Circadian rhythm has three chronotypes: morning, intermediate, and evening. Of a total of 170 patients, 84 (49.4%) patients were male. The total mean age was 62.8 (±12). The Uncontrolled hypertension odds ratio in patients with poor sleep quality was 18.47 (CI= (5.1, 67); P-value = 0.001). Patients with intermediate rhythms were more likely to have uncontrolled hypertension (OR:4.18, CI= (1.7, 10.5); P-value = 0.002). In the multiple logistic regression model, male gender increased the odds of uncontrolled hypertension in patients with poor sleep quality or intermediate circadian rhythm (OR: 17, CI;(3.7, 78.9); OR:6.83, CI:(2.3, 20.3) respectively). BACKGROUND: The urgency of uncomplicated blood pressure (BP) is known as a sudden rise in BP. The aim of this study was to evaluate the intravascular administration of midazolam as an emergency care to control BP against captopril in patients with uncomplicated hypertension (HTN). METHODS: The present study was a double-blind parallel randomized clinical trial (RCT) study that was performed on patients with urgent HTN referred to Imam Hossein Hospital in Shahroud, Iran, in 2018. Patients with BP higher than 180/110 mmHg and with healthy vital organs were selected randomly and allocated into three groups of 43 participants. All patients’ BP in both arms, and after a period of 10 minutes in the left arm, was checked and after administering the medication was checked again for 4 times of 15 minutes till 1 hour complete. RESULTS: There were significant differences between systolic (P = 0.024), diastolic (P = 0.001), and mean BP (P = 0.009) in the midazolam group before and after treatment. The group of midazolam and captopril showed the greatest reduction of BP before, in the middle, and after carrying out the treatment methods. As such, systolic, diastolic, and mean BP showed 23.5% (P = 0.047), 17.4% (P = 0.021), and 20.5% (P = 0.031) reduction, respectively. CONCLUSION: Midazolam can be used as an effective and low-risk drug for lowering BP. Midazolam also has a faster effect on lowering BP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As an expert of plague for the World Health Organization (WHO), he accomplished many missions in several countries such as India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Vietnam, Yemen, and Brazil. His research on rabies has played an important role leading to the successful combined use of immune-serum and anti-rabies vaccine for prevention of human rabies worldwide. Background: Cancer is a leading cause of death throughout the world. Increasing life expectancy and aging population are important factors for increasing cancer incidences in developing countries. National programs are essential for prevention and control of cancer in any society. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate cancer incidence and trend of its changes in Iran. Methods: National incidence was rated by Iran national cancer registry data derived from Iran's annual national cancer registration reported from 2003 to 2009. The crude rate and age standardized rate were used to express the incidence of cancer. Cochrane Armitage test was used for linear trend by Winpepi software 2.1 to study the trends in cancer incidence. Results: Based on the results of this study, the incidence of cancer was rising in Iran from 2003 to 2009 and the sex ratio was more in men than women. During this time a total of 413591 cases of cancer have been registered in the country. Of the incidence cases, 231572 cases were males and 182019 were females. Conclusions: This study indicated remarkable increasing trends in cancer incidence. According to changing lifestyles and dietary habits, it is possible that in the coming years we will be faced with a higher incidence of cancer in the country, Therefore, it is recommended to promote the use of screening programs and to increase awareness of the population to reduced the incidence of cancer in the country. Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of death in developing countries. In Iran, cancer is the third cause of death. The present study aimed at providing the incidence rates (crude and agestandardized) of different types of cancers in Sistan and Baluchestan province (Southeastern of Iran). Methods: Data were collected retrospectively reviewing all new cancer patients registered in Cancer Registry Center of Health Heputy for Sistan and Baluchestan province. Common cancers were defined based on the number of cases and standardized incidence rates. To compute the annual percentage change (APC), joinpoint 4.1.1.1 software was applied. Results: A total of 3535 cases of cancers registered during 2004-2009 were identified. Of these, 46.82% occurred in females and 53.18% in males. The most frequent cancer in women was breast cancer followed by esophagus, skin, colorectal and leukemia. The 5 most frequent cancers in men were stomach, skin, leukemia, esophagus and bladder. Joinpoint analyze showed a significant increasing trend for adjusted standard incidence rate (ASIR) for both sexes (p<0.05). Conclusion: According to The results of the present study and comparison to previous studies for other provinces in Iran, cancer incidence in Sistan and Baluchistan is less common but trends of cancers are increasing in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Background and purpose: Cancer is a major cause of death worldwide and gastric cancer with high mortality rate is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. Understanding the epidemiology of gastric cancer could be of great benefit. However, no clear trend is available on incidence of this cancer in Iran, therefore, this study aimed at investigating the incidence of gastric cancer. Material and Methods: Data included the records from the cancer registry system in Iran during 2003 to 2009. The incidence rates were then standardized using direct method. Results: We found an increasing trend during 2003 to 2009 in Iran. A total of 42,135 cases with gastric cancer were reported of which 4254 were recorded in 2003. However, this rate increased to 6886 cases in 2009. The highest and lowest rate of stomach cancer in male and female were observed in 2008 and 2003, respectively. The sex ratio was 2.51 in these years. Different regions in Iran were found with different rates of incidence. Men and women were more prone to suffer from gastric cancer in Ardabil and Semnan provinces, respectively. While the least number of diagnosed male were recorded in Kohkilooyeh Boyer Ahmad. Also, the incidences of gastric cancer were lowest in female living in Kohkilooyeh Boyer Ahmad and Hormozgan provinces Conclusion: : According to this study the prevalence of gastric cancer is increasing in northern and western regions of Iran. Background: In this study, we used a variety of factors that affect urbanization in Iran to evaluate different provinces in Iran in terms of the level of urbanization., Methods: Using information from census 2011, we collected data on 33 indicators related to urbanization in 31 provinces in Iran. To rank the provinces we used density-based hierarchical clustering scheme. To determine similarities or differences between the provinces, the square of the Euclidean distance dissimilarity coefficient; Ward's algorithm was used to merge the provinces to minimize intra-cluster variance. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the variance between the variables used to rank the provinces in terms of different levels of urbanization. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS., Results: The provinces in Iran were combined with each other in 30 stages and classified into four levels. Taking into account the variables used to rank the level of urbanization, Tehran, and Alborz provinces were at the highest level of urbanization. On the other hand, the provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan, Kerman, North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Hormozgan, and Bushehr were at the lowest level of urbanization., Conclusion: Identification of provinces at the same level of urbanization can help us to discover the strengths and weaknesses in the infrastructures of each of them. Background: Cancer is a major public health problem in the world. In Iran especially after a transition to a dynamic and urban community, the pattern of cancer has changed significantly. An important change occurred regarding the incidence of cancer at the southern shores of the Caspian Sea, including Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan province. This study was designed it investigate the epidemiology and changes in trend of cancer incidence in the geographic region of the Caspian Sea (North of Iran)., Methods: Data were collected from Cancer Registry Center report of Iran health deputy. Trends of incidence were analyzed by joinpoint regression analysis., Results: During the study period year (2004-2009), 33,807 cases of cancer had been recorded in three provinces of Gilan, Mazandran and Golstan. Joinpoint analysis indicated a significant increase in age-standardized incidence rates (ASR) with an average annual percentage change (AAPC) 10.3, 8.5 and 5.2 in Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan, respectively. The most common cancer in these provinces were correspondingly cancer of stomach, breast, skin, colorectal and bladder, respectively., Conclusion: The incidence of cancer tends to be increasing in North of Iran. These findings warrant the epidemiologic studies are helpful in planning preventive programs and recognition of risk factors.

Background: One of the most common cancers is skin cancer worldwide. Since incidence and cost of treatment of the cancer are increasing, it is necessary to further investigate to prevent and control this disease. This study aimed to determine skin cancer trend and epidemiology in Iran., Methods: This study was done based on existing data. Data used in this study were obtained from a national registry of cancer cases and the Disease Management Center of Ministry of Health in Iran. All cases registered in the country were included during 2004-2008. Incidence rates were reported based on the direct method and standard population of World Health Organization., Results: Based on the results of this study, the incidence of skin cancer is rising in Iran and the sex ratio was more in men than women in all provinces. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) of skin cancer was highest in males in Semnan, Isfahan, and Hamedan provinces (34.9, 30.80, and 28.84, respectively). The highest ASRs were seen in females in Semnan, Yazd, and Isfahan provinces (26.7, 24.14, and 18.97, respectively). The lowest ASR in male was observed in Sistan and Baluchestan, and in female in Hormozgan provinces., Conclusions: The incidence of skin cancer is increasing in the country. Therefore, the plan for the control and prevention of this cancer must be a high priority for health policy makers.
