Aim Method Results Conclusion The study aimed to describe clinical characteristics and outcomes of pregnant women with COVID‐19 undergoing cesarean section, and evaluated the association of blood values at admission with severe COVID‐19 disease in this group of patients.We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 110 patients infected with COVID‐19 who underwent cesarean section at Adana City Education and Research Hospital in Turkey. The COVID‐19 severity of the patients was classified as either severe or nonsevere disease according to World Health Organization of COVID‐19 clinical management guidance. Placental elasticity was compared by using Shear wave elastography (SWE) in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) with and without insulin to non-diabetic controls. Three groups were created as follows: Group 1 (n = 79, GDM with insulin therapy), Group 2 (n = 90, GDM with only diet) and Group 3 (n = 150, healthy controls) All patients were above 36 gestational weeks with anterior placenta. Clinical trial number was also received (NCT04455880). Group 1 had higher BMI while group 3 had lowest rate of C/S. Birthweight in GDM groups was statistically significantly higher than controls (p = .001). Although there was no significant difference between APGAR scores, Group 1 had higher rates of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission. SWE values were significantly higher in GDM patients treated with insulin or diet than controls. SWE may be an alternatively supplementary management modality in GDM.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Shear wave elastography (SWE), is one of the types of sono elastography methods that are used to measure the stiffness and elasticity of soft tissues. Recently, it became popular for screening the stiffness and elasticity of the placenta in high-risk pregnancies like preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), and placental dysfunction.What the results of this study add? All SWE velocities on the maternal side were statistically significantly different between groups. Regarding foetal side velocities, GDM groups had statistically significantly higher values (stiffer tissue) compared to controls.What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? SWE may be a Supplementary method in the diagnosis and management of GDM. Placental SWE should be measured at 24-28 weeks of gestation in patients with GDM and diagnosis confirmation and their responses to the treatment should be examined.

Aim: There is conflicting information in the literature regarding perinatal outcomes and management of isolated oligohydramniotic (IO) pregnancies. Recent studies show that IO is associated with poor perinatal outcomes. However, there is still no definitive method for deciding the optimal delivery timing for these patients. In this study, we aimed to assess the relationship between Doppler parameters, especially cerebro-placental ratio, and perinatal outcomes in isolated oligohydramnios (IO) patients.Methods: This prospective case control study was conducted between October-November 2018. A total of 98 patients were recruited and divided into two groups, as pregnant women with normal amounts of amniotic volume and the isolated oligohydramnios group. Oligohydramnios diagnosis was made by amniotic fluid index measurement (AFI, Amaç: İzole oligohidramniotik (IO) gebeliklerin perinatal sonuçları ve yönetimi ile ilgili literatürde hala çelişkili bilgiler mevcuttur. Objective: In this study, we aimed to investigate the demographic findings and the reasons for not accepting the oral glucose tolerance test during pregnancy.Method: This study was carried out on the pregnants in Nigde University Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic. The study was performed with pregnants to whom OGTT was recommended in the 24-28 gestational weeks, but who did not accept the test. Pregnant women were asked questionnaires prepared by our clinic and the answers were recorded. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Kruskal-wallis and Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman correlation analysis were used for data analysis.Results: A total of 299 pregnant women were included in the study. Mean age of the pregnant women was 26.88 ± 5.59 years. Mean gestational week was 25.4 ± 3.12. When the reasons of not having OGTT in pregnant women who had OGTT in their previous pregnancies are examined, 42.9% thought the test was unnecessary, 4.3% thought it was difficult to perform the test, 24.5% said they read news about the harmful effects of the test in the press, 12.3% said because the doctor did not recommend the test, 12.3% said they did not have regular follow-up, 3.7% stated that they did not take the test because they were not informed sufficiently about the test. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study is an important study in terms of revealing the prejudices of pregnant women who applied to our clinic in Nigde province, even though there are few subjects., Amaç: Bu çalışmamız da gebelikte glukoz yükleme testini kabul etmeyen olguların demografik bulguları ile testi kabul etmeme nedenlerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Yöntem: Bu çalışma Niğde Üniversitesi Kadın Hastalıkları ve Doğum Polikliniğine başvuran, 24-28. gebelik haftalarında OGTT önerilen, ancak testi kabul etmeyen gebelerle yapıldı. Gebelere kliniğimiz tarafından oluşturulan anket sorular soruldu ve cevaplar kaydedildi. Verilerin analizinde frekans, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma, Kruskal-wallis ve Mann-whitney U testi ve Spearman korelasyon analizi kullanıldı.Bulgular: Çalışmaya toplam 299 gebe dahil edildi. Gebelerin yaş ortalaması 26.88±5.59 idi. Ortalama gebelik haftası 25.4±3.12 idi. Önce ki gebeliklerinde OGTT yaptıran gebelerin şimdi ki gebeliğinde OGTT yaptırmama nedenleri incelendiğinde %42.9’si testin gereksiz olduğunu düşündüğü için, %4.3’ü testin uygulanmasının zor olduğunu düşündüğü için, %24.5’i basın da testin zararlı olduğu söylendiği için, %12.3’ü doktoru tarafından testin önerilmediği için, %12.3 düzenli takiplerinin yaptırmadığı için, %3.7 test hakkında yeterince bilgilendirilmediği için testi yaptırmadığını ifade etti.Sonuç: Sonuç olarak bu çalışma az sayıda denekle olsa da Niğde ilimiz de kliniğimize başvuran gebelerin şeker yükleme testine bakışlarını ve ön yargılarını ortaya koyması açısından önemli bir çalışmadır.

Materials and methods: In this prospective cohort study, 105 singleton pregnant women with no congenital abnormalities and pregnancy complications who delivered before 37 weeks of gestational age were included. All the patients underwent ultrasound examination to obtain fetal pulmonary artery Doppler. 15 patients were excluded from the study as they did not give birth within 3 days subsequent to ultrasound examination, or inadequate Doppler measurements. After delivery the neonates were grouped according to diagnosis of RDS as RDS + and RDS-. Results: One hundred five women met the inclusion criteria. This study evaluates the statistical analysis of cervicovaginal smear results at postmenopausal period accompanied by literature. Cervicovaginal smear results of 894 postmenopausal women were evaluated retrospectively according to the 2001 Bethesda system (BS) in Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic from 2007–2010. The study found, normal results on 287 patients (32.1%), benign findings on 556 patients (62.2%), abnormal epithelial cell changes on 48 patients (5.36%) and malignant changes on 3 patients (0.33%). The abnormal epithelial changes were observed to be atypical cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) for 22 patients (2.46%), low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) for 11 patients (1.23%), high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) for 7 patients (0.78%), findings that cannot exclude a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (ASC-H) for 6 patients (0.55%) and atypical glandular cells-not otherwise specified (AGC-NOS) for 2 patients (0.22%). Malignant results were 2 squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) (0.22%) and 1 adenocarcinoma (ACC) (0.11%). Cervical cancer screening programs should be expanded and Pap smear screening should be applied to all postmenopausal women. The longer time span involved from premalignant lesions to cancer improves our chance for the diagnosis and treatment. As the incidence of invasive cancer increases in menopausal period, gynecological smear examination and regular check-up are crucial. A high rate of abnormalities of epithelial cells was detected in this study.

Background/Aims: The association between striae gravidarum (SG) and preterm delivery may be postulated because of sharing similar poor organization of extracellular matrix in both skin and cervix. Our goal was to compare the frequency of striae gravidarum in women who gave preterm birth and women who gave term birth. Methods: A case-control study was conducted in women who gave preterm birth (n = 66) and age matched women who gave term birth (n = 68). Cases and controls were recruited from puerperal women consequently seen at delivery wards of perinatology unit. All women underwent dermatologic examination in terms of SG blindly to theirs gestational weeks of delivery. The frequency of SG was compared in all groups. Results: The frequency of SG was 63.6% in women with preterm birth and 54.4% in women with term birth (p = 0.278). SG is five times more common in late preterm group than in women with term group, but this difference was not statistically significant [(p = 0.227, OR: 5.02, CI 95% (0.5 - 44.0)]. The rate of preventive cream usage was not statistically different in women with SG and without SG (p = 0.245). Conclusions: It seems that there was no statistically significant association between the risk of preterm labor and the presence of striae gravidarum. Larger prospective observational studies are needed to state expressly the probable clinical association between the presence of SG and preterm delivery.

After exclusion criteria were applied, a total of 1336 women were included in the study. Group 1 consisted of 1231 women of reproductive age who had been born at term. Group 2 included 105 women of reproductive age who had been born prematurely. The main outcome measure was the prevalence of SD. Results The overall prevalence of SD was 34.6% (462/1336). Background: Present aim is to evaluate anxiety, depression, quality of life and self-esteem in patients with vaginitis (not only specific to candidasis) and also to determine factors affecting vaginitis such as demographic, cultural and psychological causes.Methods: Each patient completed a self-administered questionnaire (Rosenberg’ Self-Esteem Scale, Short-Form 36, Quality of Life Scale, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Beck Depression Inventory, Body Image Scale) and underwent a careful examination of the vulva and vagina. The cross-sectional study was carried out with two groups. The first group consisted of 107 women between the ages 18 and 45 years and had no physical disease but reccurrent vulvovaginitis (≥4 in a year). The comparison control group consisted of 94 healthy (no vaginitis symptoms in 12 months) age matched volunteer participants.Results: Women with vaginitis had significantly higher anxiety and depression scores. There was no statistically significant difference in body image scale. Regarding type of marriage, arranged type was statistically significantly higher in vaginitis group while flirting type was statistically higher in control group. University school degree and income was statistically significantly lower in vaginitis group. Living residence as rent and vaginal douch was statistically significantly higher in vaginitis group.Conclusions: A better detailed history should be taken into consideration for personal stress sources and treatment support should be provided for patients with vaginitis. Not only gynecologists but also a multidisciplinary team should take part in the treatment and follow up of the patients to cope with recurrency even in non-specific vaginitis.
