Student life in the era of globalization involves technology as a tool in carrying out daily activities. However, the decline in direct interaction between individuals is an important problem that needs to be analyzed. This research aims to examine the relationship between empathy and the quality of interpersonal relationships in students, with a focus on four dimensions: Support, Conflict, Communication, and Interaction. The method used in this research is quantitative, with a population of students at Tarumanagara University. The sample consisted of 260 students taken randomly using probability random sampling techniques. Data was collected through a questionnaire that measured the level of empathy using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) scale and the quality of interpersonal relationships using the Quality of Relationship Inventory (QRI) scale. Data analysis was carried out using the Spearman correlation test. The research results show a correlation coefficient of -0.150 with a significance value of 0.015, which indicates a significant negative relationship between empathy and the quality of interpersonal relationships, even with a weak level of relationship strength. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the empathy students have, the lower the quality of interpersonal relationships they have. This finding contradicts the theory which states that there is a positive relationship between these two variables. It is hoped that this research can become a reference for further studies regarding the relationship between empathy and the quality of interpersonal relationships among students.
