Medicine - Abstract
Objectives Malnutrition is a clinical condition that is frequently seen in critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Although there are many scoring systems and tools used to determine nutritional risk, those that can be used in critically ill patients in the ICU are very few. The scoring systems used are insufficient to identify ICU patients with malnutrition or at risk.Malnutrition is generally presented with a decrease in skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength. Therefore, in many recent studies, attention has been drawn to the relationship between nutritional status and loss of muscle mass.Design A cohort study.Setting Forty-five patients hospitalised in an anaesthesia ICU in Turkey were included in the study.Participants Patients aged 18 years and older.Interventions Demographic data of patients included in the study, and Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002) and Modified Nutrition Risk in Critically ill (mNUTRIC) scores in the first 24 hours of ICU admission were noted. Rectus abdominis muscle (RAM) and rectus femoris muscle (RFM) thicknesses were measured by the same person (intensive care specialist) with ultrasonography (USG).Outcome measures Finding a quantitative and practical evaluation method by determining the correlation of measurement of RAM and RFM thickness with USG with NRS-2002 and mNUTRIC score, which are scoring systems used to assess nutritional risk. Results The performance of RAM and RFM thickness in determining nutritional status was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Area under the ROC curves were calculated as >0.7 for RFM and RAM measurements (p

Abstract The oral cavity and oropharynx are complex environments that are susceptible to physical, chemical, and microbiological insults. They are also common sites for pathological and cancerous changes. The effectiveness of conventional locally‐administered medications against diseases affecting these oral milieus may be compromised by constant salivary flow. For systemically‐administered medications, drug resistance and adverse side‐effects are issues that need to be resolved. New strategies for drug delivery have been investigated over the last decade to overcome these obstacles. Synthesis of nanoparticle‐containing agents that promote healing represents a quantum leap in ensuring safe, efficient drug delivery to the affected tissues. Micro/nanoencapsulants with unique structures and properties function as more favorable drug‐release platforms than conventional treatment approaches. The present review provides an overview of newly‐developed nanocarriers and discusses their potential applications and limitations in various fields of dentistry and oral medicine.

Bifora radians M. Bieb.

Double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) binding and cleavage by Cas9 is a hallmark of type II CRISPR-Cas bacterial adaptive immunity. All known Cas9 enzymes are thought to recognize DNA exclusively as a natural substrate, providing protection against DNA phage and plasmids. Here, we show that Cas9 enzymes from both subtypes II-A and II-C can recognize and cleave single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) by an RNA-guided mechanism that is independent of a protospacer-adjacent motif (PAM) sequence in the target RNA. RNA-guided RNA cleavage is programmable and site-specific, and we find that this activity can be exploited to reduce infection by single-stranded RNA phage in vivo. We also demonstrate that Cas9 can direct PAM-independent repression of gene expression in bacteria. These results indicate that a subset of Cas9 enzymes have the ability to act on both DNA and RNA target sequences, and suggest the potential for use in programmable RNA targeting applications.

Accurate assessment of crop-weed control period is an essential part for planning an effective weed management for cropping systems. Field experiments were conducted during the seasonal growing periods of potato in 2012 and 2013 in Kayseri, Turkey to assess critical period for weed control (CPWC) in potato. A four parameter log-logistic model was used to assist in monitoring and analysing two sets of related, relative crop yield. Data was obtained during the periods of increased weed interference and as a comparison, during weed-free periods. In both years, the relative yield of potato decreased with a longer period of weed-interference whereas increased with increasing length of weed free period. In 2012, the CPWC ranged from 112 to 1014 GDD (Growing Degree Days) which corresponded to 8 to 66 days after crop emergence (DAE) and between 135-958 GDD (10 to 63 DAE) in the following year based on a 5% acceptable yield loss. Weed-free conditions needed to be established as early as the first week after crop emergence and maintained as late as ten weeks after crop emergence to avoid more than 5% yield loss in the potato. The results suggest that CPWC could well assist potato producers to significantly reduce the expense of their weed management programs as well as improving its efficacy.

The aim of this review is to examine parents' emotion socialization practices, which play an important role in the emotional and social competence of their children during early childhood. Emotional socialization occurs in three ways: parents' expression of their own feelings, discussion about emotions with their children, and parents' reactions to their children's negative emotions. In particular, parents' responses to their children's negative emotions are an issue that is strongly discussed in the literature. These responses are divided into two categories: supportive and non-supportive responses. Supportive parents see their children's negative emotions as an opportunity to approach and guide them to cope with these feelings. By contrast, non-supportive parents see negative feelings as a threat and believe that they and their children should be rescued from these feelings as soon as possible. The ways parents cope with their own emotions, their psychological health, personality traits and marital satisfaction are important factors that directly shape parents' emotional socialization practices, which are included in the limited studies in the literature. It is important to consider these factors in order to better comprehend emotion socialization. Emotional socialization research mainly focuses on the inuence of mothers in the process of their children's social and emotional development. The studies that examine fathers' contributions to their children's social and emotional development are limited. Further, ndings reveal that emotional socialization practices are shaped according to the temperament of children and therefore, similar practices may have different effects on children with different temperament.

Objectives: To investigate the correlation between biomicroscopic and confocal microscopic findings in eyes with amiodarone-induced cornea verticillata. Materials and Methods: Sixteen eyes of 8 patients with amiodarone-induced cornea verticillata were evaluated. Eyes with keratopathy were staged according to Orlando slit-lamp microscopy classification. Confocal laser-scanning microscopy was performed by Rostock cornea modulated to HRT II (Heidelberg Engineering GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany), and staging was done according to Falke’s classification that is based on the degree of epithelial basal cell deposit accumulation. The relation between biomicroscopic staging and corneal involvement detected on confocal microscopy was assessed by Spearman correlation analysis. Results: The mean age of the 8 patients (5 male, 3 female) was 63.1±7.2 (50 to 69) years. The mean duration of drug treatment was 12.1±11.8 (3 to 36) months, and the mean drug treatment dose was 312.5±223.2 (100 to 800) mg/day. At the time of examination, 50% of the patients had already given up the treatment at a mean of 29.5±15.8 (6 to 40) months ago, whereas the other 50% were still on amiodarone therapy. Hyper-reflecting deposits were observed in the basal epithelium, anterior-, mid-and deep-stroma, and in the endothelium on confocal microscopic examination. Correlation was detected between biomicroscopic and confocal microscopic stages (r=0.770, p

Objectives: To compare the results of pattern reversal visual evoked potentials (VEP) in the fellow eye of patients with unilateral nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and in the eyes of age-and sex-matched healthy control group. Materials and Methods: Fellow eyes of 30 patients (study group) with unilateral NAION and 30 age-and sex-matched healthy controls (control group) were included in the study. Pattern VEP was recorded and the p100 latencies and amplitudes were obtained. Differences between groups were statistically evaluated using t-test. Results: In the study group, there were 16 (53.3%) men and 14 (46.7%) women, whereas there were 17 (56.7%) men and 13 (43.4%) women in the control group. Mean age of the patients in the study and control groups was 57.9±9.06 and 56.7±9.23 years, respectively. There was not any statistically significant difference regarding mean best-corrected visual acuity between the two groups (p=0.261). The mean P100 latency was 112.4±16.7 ms in the study group and 101.9±1.6 ms in the control group (p=0.03). P100 amplitudes were decreased in the study group compared with the control group (7.03±3.85 µV versus 9.63±2.6 µV) (t-test, p=0.003). Conclusion: In our study, we determined that P100 latencies were prolonged and P100 amplitudes were decreased in the fellow eyes of patients with unilateral NAION compared with the healthy control subjects. These data could suggest axon loss due to ischemia, influenced visual cortex response, or subclinical involvement of the fellow eye. These findings could also give a clue to predict the risk of contralateral involvement. (Turk J Ophthalmol 2014; 44: 15-8)

Treatment and prognosis of intrusive luxation can vary depending on the age of the patient, type of dentition, stage of root development, and time and severity of the trauma. Some studies have demonstrated that intrusions of up to 3.0 mm have an excellent prognosis, whereas teeth with severe intrusion or teeth that are intruded more than 6.0 mm present an unfavorable prognosis because of the occurrence of inflammatory resorption and pulp necrosis. The aim of this case report is to present an 11-year-old male patient with complete intrusion of the permanent maxillary left lateral incisor, associated with the adjacent central tooth presenting external resorption, treated by immediate surgical repositioning and root canal treatment with a favorable prognosis. After long-term (3-year) clinical and radiographic follow-up, the teeth appeared normal and the patient was pleased with the outcome.

General Dentistry - Abstract
Needle-free injection systems can contribute to the prevention of needle-related pain during palatal infiltration anesthesia (PIA) in children. Research on this topic in children is required. The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the effectiveness and patient preference of a needle-free system versus traditional anesthesia (TA) on pain perception during PIA in children. The study was designed as a randomized, controlled crossover clinical study with 48 children aged 6-12 years requiring dental treatment with PIA in bilateral maxillary primary molars. TA was applied on one side and the Comfort-in™ injection system (CIS) on the other side in two separate sessions. Then, patient preference was recorded. The pain perception during PIA was evaluated using the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale (PRS) and the Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) Scale. The data were analyzed for statistical significance (p .05).There were statistically significant differences between the TA and the CIS according to the PRS and FLACC Scale scores. On both scales, significantly higher pain ratings were observed in the TA group during PIA (p .001). There was a statistically significant difference in terms of patient preference (p .001). Although 77.1% (n = 37) of the children preferred the CIS, 22.9% (n = 11) preferred the TA. Moreover, patient preference for the CIS was significantly higher in older children (p .01).The application of a needle-free system during PIA ensured a decrease in pain perception in children.

CHEMICAL processes , *AEROGEL synthesis , *CARBON-based materials , *CHEMICAL stability , *RAW materials , *SUPERCRITICAL carbon dioxide - Abstract
The superior properties of carbon aerogels such as porous structure, renewability, low density, high electrical conductivity, and chemical stability have made their use as adsorbent or catalyst in chemical processes widespread. The use of biomass instead of Resorcinol-Formaldehyde as a raw material in the production of carbon aerogel is an environmentally friendly practice as well as reducing the production cost. In the study, carbon aerogel synthesis was carried out by using two different biomasses (bark and brewed tea waste). The biomass used during the synthesis went through the stages of pretreatment (washing/grinding), hydrothermal treatment, drying with supercritical carbon dioxide and carbonization, respectively. XRD, Nitrogen adsorption - desorption analysis, SEM and FTIR analyzes were used in the characterization of the synthesized materials. Synthesized carbon aerogels are very promising in terms of their use in areas such as energy storage, thermal insulation, environmental cleaning, chemical sensors, with their superior properties. SINAPIS , *PLANT variation , *MICROSATELLITE repeats - Abstract
Wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis L.) is a self-fertilizing weed species that exerts negative impacts on wheat production and herbicides are intensively used to manage it. Cross-fertilization may lead to genetic differentiation in this species. Therefore, this study investigated genetic diversity among wild mustard populations collected from wheat fields across various regions in Türkiye. Genetic variation was evaluated using 5 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers in populations collected from 30 different locations. Populations were analyzed using UPGMA (unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean) and principal component analysis (PCA). The mean genetic diversity (GD) and polymorphism information content (PIC) values were 0.752 and 0.844, respectively. High genetic variability was recorded among populations within geographic locations. The populations were categorized into two major groups by UPGMA. There was no apparent geographic isolation among tested populations, which displayed a high degree of variability. The primary source of this variability is thought to be the adaptability of wild mustard seeds dispersed through various methods across diverse locations. Despite being a predominantly self-pollinating species, wild mustard may also employ some cross-pollination mechanisms. In conclusion, SSR markers proved useful in determining genetic diversity in outcrossing species, especially where no prior genotypic information is available. The study suggests that genetic diversity is maintained in wild mustard populations even with rotational farming practices and intensive use of herbicides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective Multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) in children is associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and can be mortal with the involvement of multiple organ systems. However, long-term effects on all organs and organ systems involvement are still unclear or even whether this condition may still occur in which organs. This report aims to identify ocular findings in children with MIS-C on the follow-up. Methods This is a prospective cross-sectional study. Cases diagnosed with MIS-C between May 2020 and February 2021 in our hospital (e.g., cases aged 1 month–18 years old) were included in the study. The same ophthalmologist followed up with the patients after discharge. Patients underwent detailed ophthalmic examinations, including slit lamp biomicroscopy and fundoscopy, best-corrected visual acuity, and Schirmer's 2 test. Results Our study included 22 patients treated with the MIS-C. Twelve (54.5%) were girls, and 10 (45.5%) were boys. Their mean age was 8.7 ± 4.9 years. Pathological ocular findings were found in six (27.2%) patients in the follow-up. The most common finding was punctate epitheliopathy in four (18.2%) patients. The cause of punctate epitheliopathy was dry eye. All patients recovered with treatment. Conclusion Our study is the first to evaluate ocular findings in MIS-C in the long term. Regardless of the severity of the disease, the most common ocular finding in our study was punctate epitheliopathy, that is, dry eye. According to our results, we think patients should be followed up on pathological ocular findings after discharge.

General Materials Science - Abstract
Avena sterilis is an important grassy weed that causes a problem in wheat cultivation areas, and intensive herbicides are used to control it. Genetic diversity study is important to have information how on the effect weed species of the environmental factors and herbicides. The high level of genetic diversity within the species is a guarantee for adaptation to changing environmental conditions. This study was conducted based on complaints of the loss of effectiveness during the chemical control. Analyses were carried out on 27 selected populations collected from wheat cultivation areas in Turkey's Middle Black Sea region. Seventy-seven alleles from microsatellite loci were detected, and the average number of alleles per locus was determined as five using 17 microsatellite primers. The average gene diversity (GD) and polymorphism information content (PIC) values were 0.894 and 0.732, respectively. According to the UPGMA dendrogram generated using Average Linkage, the populations were clustered into two main groups. A high degree of diversity was found among the studied steril oat genotypes, and it is seen that there is no geographical isolation. It is understood that this situation primarily provides adaptation to those geographical areas by transporting weed seeds from other provinces in various ways. According to these findings, issues such as crop rotation, cultural control methods, encouraging the use of certified seeds, and the use of herbicides with different mechanisms of action can be listed among the measures that can be taken to control the high genetic diversity, which is an indicator of herbicide resistance.

Economic growth comes with it environmental trade-off on environmental sustainability. This occurrence is evidence on a global scale as it stems from human anthropogenic activities driven by the consumption of energy sources from fossil-fuel origin. On this premise, the present study focuses on five fragile economies with huge energy and sustainability targets to explore the nexus between economic growth and the environment. The present study is distinct from previous studies in scope by the construct and inclusion of a financial inclusion index with the aid of Principal component analysis (PCA), human development to the economic growth environment argument. To this end to reach evidence-based outcomes second generational panel analysis is employed. The Durbin-Hansen cointegration test traces the long-run equilibrium relationship between the study variables. Subsequently, an augmented mean group (AMG) estimator is employed to explore the relationship between the outlined variables. Furthermore, the present study finds support for the pollution haven hypothesis for the selected fragile economies. The plausible explanation is due to weak trade and environmental treaties in the examined countries. However, the renewable energy human development index help mitigates environ mental degradation. Thus, the present study advocates the need for energy transition and investment into new technological innovation in research and development to attain sustainable development goals and environ mental sustainability resonated in UNSDGs-11,12 and 13. Additionally, financial inclusion plays a vital role in the five fragile energy-environment mixes. The current study presents vital policy directives in the concluding section for individual countries and the entire bloc for more effective policy direction.

Weedy biotypes of Oryza sativa L., (weedy rice) are a serious threat to rice production because of their flexibility in seed germination timing, variable growth forms, and high genetic diversity. Experiments were designed to determine the effects of storage conditions, osmotic stress, pH, salt stress, and burial depth on germination of weedy rice seeds in flooded or non-flooded conditions. Mature weedy rice seeds were gathered from rice fields in the different regions of Turkey. Three biotypes were selected and classified according to awn length; long awn, short awn and awnless. Seasonal germination patterns of weedy rice seeds in the laboratory after retrieval from various depths and timing were affected by burial depth, water regime, and exhumation timing across the treatments for all biotypes. The long and short awn biotypes had higher germination rates than the awnless biotype and did not have a seasonal germination pattern. Seed germination was initiated in the spring, peaked in summer and declined in the fall in flooded and non-flooded treatments for the awnless biotype. The most distinct differences in seedling emergence patterns were observed in awnless and long awn biotypes, and they emerged from 10 cm depth. Our results suggested that flooded conditions reduced the germination of weedy rice biotypes. Flooding rice paddies for a period of time after harvest may improve weedy rice control and decrease the weed population. In addition to deeper cultivation would be more effective in controlling all weedy biotypes since the majority of weed seedling emergence was from shallow depths.

In the present study, Ni-containing mesoporous aluminosilicate (Al2(SiO2)3) supported catalysts, which are resistant to carbon formation, were developed for hydrogen production from acetic acid. Commercial aluminosilicate (Al2(SiO2)3) was used as catalyst support. Furthermore, to improve the catalyst stability, Mg, La, Ce, Ca, Ru metals, and Ni (5% by mass) were incorporated by the wet impregnation method into the catalyst supports’ structure. The synthesized catalysts were characterized to define their physical and chemical properties. N2 adsorption-desorption results reveal that the resulting isotherm behavior of all the prepared catalysts is consistent with type IV isotherm with plate-like wall structures. The catalytic activity test of the prepared catalysts was investigated at a reaction temperature of 750 C and a feed molar ratio of 1/2.5 (AA/H2O) in a packed bed continuous reactor system. Activity test results showed that catalyst composition has profound effects on product distribution. Hydrogen-rich syngas was produced over 5Ni-3Ru@Al2(SiO2)3 and 5Ni-3CeO2@Al2(SiO2)3 (about % 44 and % 46, respectively) catalysts. However, the addition of MgO over the 5Ni@Al2(SiO2)3 catalyst strongly influenced the selectivity of hydrogen. Syngas, which contains an equimolar amount of H2, and CO is a quite important feedstock for the Fischer-Tropsch process (about 35% each), was obtained with the 5Ni-3MgO@Al2(SiO2)3 catalyst.

The first dental examination is a major step that is affected by many factors and determines the dental treatment process. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the association of child temperament with child dental anxiety, parental dental anxiety, dental behaviour and dental caries. The study consisted of 100 children aged 3 to 6 who were attending their first dental examination and their accompanying parents. The Facial Image Scale (FIS), Frankl’s Behaviour Scale (FBS), Corah’s Dental Anxiety Scale (CDAS) and the Short Temperament Scale for Children (STSC) were used for assessment. The DMFT (decayed, missing and filled teeth) score of each child was recorded. Children who exhibited negative behaviour on the FBS had the highest rhythmicity scores (p = 0.008). The mean DMFT score of children in the rhythmicity temperamental dimension was relatively high (p = 0.008). The parents of children defined as negative on the FBS had high dental anxiety levels on CDAS (p < 0.001). Children whose parents had higher dental anxiety levels showed higher dental anxiety (p = 0.007). The success rate of dental treatment procedures may be increased by improving dentists’ knowledge of dental anxiety related to the child’s temperament and integrating parental support to reduce dental anxiety.

Highly ordered mesoporous gamma-Al2O3 particles and MgO materials were synthesized by evaporation induced self-assembly (EISA) and template-free hydrothermal co-precipitation routes, respectively. Ni, Ni-MgO, and Ni-La2O3-containing catalysts were prepared using a wet-impregnation method. The synthesized catalysts were characterized by N-2 adsorption -desorption, XRD, SEM-EDS, DRIFTS, XPS, TGA-DTA, and Raman spectroscopy analysis. The mesoporous gamma-Al2O3 catalyst support exhibited a high surface area of 245 m(2)/g and average pore volume of 0.481 cm(3)/g. The DRIFTS results indicate the existence of large Lewis's acid regions in the pure gamma-Al2O3 and metal-containing catalysts. Catalytic activity tests of pure materials and metal-containing catalysts were carried out at the reaction temperature of 750 degrees C and a feed molar ratio of AA/H2O/Ar:1/2.5/2 over 3 h. Complete conversion of acetic acid and 81.75% hydrogen selectivity were obtained over the catalyst 5Ni@gamma-Al2O3. The temperature and feed molar ratio had a noticeable impact on H-2 selectivity and acetic acid conversion. Increasing the water proportion in the feed composition from 2.5 to 10 considerably improved the catalytic activity by increasing hydrogen selectivity from 81.75% to 91%. Although the Ni-based gamma-Al2O3 -supported catalysts exhibited higher activity performance compared to the Ni-based MgO-supported catalysts, they were not as resistant to coke formation as were MgO-supported catalysts. The introduction of MgO and La2O3 into the Ni@gamma-Al2O3 and Ni@MgO catalysts' structures played a significant role in lowering the carbon formation (from 37.15% to 17.6%-12.44% and 12.17%, respectively) and improving the thermal stability of the catalysts by decreasing the agglomeration of acidic sites and reinforcing the adsorption of CO2 on the catalysts' surfaces. Therefore, coke deposition was reduced, and catalyst lifetime was improved. (C) 2021 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper seeks to determine the working capital efficiency levels of firms in the manufacturing sector in Turkey and the impact of working capital efficiency on their profitability. To this end, a panel data analysis was conducted using quarterly data for the 2009-2018 period. The findings indicate that the working capital efficiency index has a positive impact on firm profitability and that the cash conversion cycle has no impact on firm profitability.

In this paper, we aimed to evaluate the performance of a deep learning system for automated tooth detection and numbering on pediatric panoramic radiographs.YOLO V4, a CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks) based object detection model was used for automated tooth detection and numbering. 4545 pediatric panoramic X-ray images, processed in labelImg, were trained and tested in the Yolo algorithm. The model was successful in detecting and numbering both primary and permanent teeth on pediatric panoramic radiographs with the mean average precision (mAP) value of 92.22 %, mean average recall (mAR) value of 94.44% and weighted-F1 score of 0.91. The proposed CNN method yielded high and fast performance for automated tooth detection and numbering on pediatric panoramic radiographs. Automatic tooth detection could help dental practitioners to save time and also use it as a pre-processing tool for detection of dental pathologies.

PurposeThis study aims to determine the nexus between agricultural production and agricultural loans for the period Q1 2003–Q4 2018 in Turkey.Design/methodology/approachThe authors employ the time-series analyses within the scope of the study. Firstly, they run the Engle–Granger two-step cointegration test and the Toda–Yamamoto causality analysis. They also use the dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) model estimator and estimate the vector autoregression model for predicting the dynamic structure of time series.FindingsThe results of time series analyses reveal that the variables are cointegrated and there are causal relationships between agricultural loans and agricultural production. Also, the variance decomposition findings indicate that the effect of agricultural loans provided by development-investment banks and participation banks on agricultural production has increased over the years, and the deposit banks have a high impact on agricultural production. The results of the DOLS model indicate that agricultural loans have a positive effect on agricultural production.Originality/valueThis research is one of the few studies that comprehensively determines the direction of nexus between agricultural production and agricultural loans in Turkey economy. This is the first contribution of the study in the literature. Another contribution of this study is to investigate the nexus between agricultural production and agricultural loans for banking sector groups. Unlike other studies in the literature, this study calculates the variance decomposition by going beyond unit root and cointegration tests. Thus, this study has deep findings.
