Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to examine the physical effects of participation in a Yoga and Pilates-based exercise program on the endurance and flexibility of the spine in order to protect the health of the lumbar region in healthy women. Methods: A total of 40 healthy women with a mean age of 41.62±6.91 years were included in the study. Participants were divided into two groups as Yoga and Pilates groups randomly. Both groups participated in an exercise program for 45 minutes a day, two days a week for 12 weeks. Sit and reach test was used to evaluate flexibility, and curl up, Static back endurance test and horizontal side bridge building test were used to evaluate endurance. Results: When both exercise groups were compared before and after treatment, statistically significant difference was found in favor of post-treatment in all measurements (p0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of our study, it was determined that both exercise types improved both flexibility and muscle endurance performance. However, it was seen that Yoga and Pilates exercises were not superior to each other in terms of flexibility and endurance. Both Yoga and Pilates exercise methods can be used safely to protect and improve general health and especially lumbar region health.

Children with specific learning disorder (SLD) have some cognitive and postural stability problems compared to typically developing (TD) children. Their single and dual-task gait performance may be affected depending on these problems.Are there any differences between the gait parameters of children with SLD and TD under single- and dual-task conditions?A comparative-descriptive study was conducted among 35 children with SLD and 33 TD children. All participants were assessed for gait parameters using a custom wireless inertial sensor under single and dual-task conditions. In the dual-task gait tests, there were the following tasks: to carry a glass of water and to tell apart the color of the paper.The children with SLD exhibited gait deterioration in both single and dual-task gait (p 0.05). Dual-task cost cognitive values were higher in children with SLD (p 0.05).This study highlights the worse gait performance of children with SLD under single- and dual-task conditions compared with TD children. However, interventions for their gait impairments are limited. At this point, SLD specialists can focus on multitasking to improve their walking skills.

With this study, we aimed to compare the effects of single- and dual-task training on gait and cognition among healthy older individuals, which can be adjusted weekly according to the individual’s functional performance. According to the results of the study, the dual-task training group was better compared to the single-task training group in gait speed, cadence, and many cognitive variables. Individual progressive dual-task training is an effective and useful method that improves gait performance and cognitive skills among older individuals. It is proposed to implement to maintain normal gait and cognitive function, and prevent possible gait and cognitive disabilities for healthy older individuals. Dual-task training has beneficial effects on older individuals for gait and cognition. This study was aimed to make a comparison between the effects of individual progressive single- and dual-task training on gait and cognition among healthy older individuals. A total of 32 participants were divided randomly into two groups as the single-task group (n = 16, 64.6 ± 3.3 years, 7 males and 9 females) and dual-task group (n = 16, 65.6 ± 2.6 years, 8 males and 8 females). The 10-m walk test with the LEGSys device was used to assess spatio-temporal gait parameters. The cognitive parameters were evaluated using the Standardized Mini-Mental State Exam and Stroop Test. Objective: Foot deformities occur in about 80% of the older women. Structural andphysiological changes in the foot occur with aging. These changes can directly affect individual’smobility and quality of life. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of foot deformities regarding to severity on gait, balance and functional mobility in nursing home residingolder women. Material and Methods: Eighty healthy women aged 65 years and older who residednursing home were included in the study. Spatiotemporal characteristics of gait, balance and functional mobility and energy consumption among to all participants were evaluated. Results: Themean age of the participants was 67±3.24 years and body mass index (BMI) was 32.39±5.16 kg/m2.Forty-five participants (56.2%) had mild deformity and 35 participants had moderate deformity. Noparticipants had severe deformity. The most common foot deformity was pes planus (90%). Compared with the mild deformity group when BMI was as a covariate the moderate deformity grouphave higher energy consumption (p=0.037). There were no differences in right step length(p=0.627), left step length (p=0.925), cadence (p=0.508), step width (p=0.055), gait speed (p=0.708),Functional Reach Test (p=0.211), Four Square Step Test (p=0.542) and Time Up and Go Test(p=0.763) between deformity groups. Conclusion: Physiotherapists should include appropriate energy conservation techniques in the rehabilitation of older women who have foot deformities. Theyshould offer orthotics and appropriate footwear to older women to prevent new deformities and decrease progression of existing foot deformities.

Amaç: Mesleki farkındalık, o mesleğin yeterlilikleri, meslekle ilgili yasa ve yönetmelikler, görev ve sorumluluklarla ilgili önbilgi sahibi olmayı gerektirir. Bireysel istek her zaman insanların mesleğini tam olarak belirleyememektedir. Literatürde, ülkemizdeki fizyoterapi ve rehabilitasyon okullarındaki son sınıf öğrencilerinin mesleki farkındalık düzeyi kapsamlı bir şekilde değerlendirilmemiştir. Çalışmanın amacı, bu okullardaki son sınıf öğrencilerinin mesleki farkındalık düzeylerini değerlendirmek ve bölümü istekleri doğrultusunda tercih eden öğrencilerle, bölümü istemeden tercih eden öğrencilerin mesleki farkındalık düzeylerini karşılaştırmaktı. Yöntem: Bu çalışma için, Türkiye’deki 10 üniversite örneklem olarak seçildi. Katılımcılara mesleki farkındalıkla ilgili 10 sorudan oluşan bir anket uygulandı. Tanımlayıcı istatistikler hesaplandı. Öğrencilerin mesleki farkındalık düzeylerinin karşılaştırılmasında Ki-kare testi kullanıldı. Sonuçlar: Çalışmamıza 850 fizyoterapi ve rehabilitasyon bölümü son sınıf öğrencisi katıldı. Soruların % 71,19’una doğru cevap verildi. Katılımcıların % 77,29’unun bölümü isteyerek tercih ettiği belirlendi. Bölümü isteyerek tercih edenler ile istemediği halde tercih edenler arasında mesleki farkındalık açısından fark bulunmadı (p>0,05). Tartışma: Bu çalışmada son sınıf fizyoterapi ve rehabilitasyon bölümü öğrencilerinin çoğunda mesleki farkındalığın iyi düzeyde olduğu görüldü. Ancak bazı okullardaki mesleki farkındalık düzeyi orta seviyedeydi. Bu okullarda mesleki farkındalık düzeylerinin artırılması için seminerler ve söyleşiler gibi faaliyetlerin yapılmasının faydalı olacağını düşünüyoruz., Purpose: Professional awareness requires knowledge of the competencies of the profession, occupational laws and regulations, duties and responsibilities. Individual demand cannot always determine the profession of people. In the literature, level of professional awareness of senior students in physiotherapy and rehabilitation schools in Turkey has not been extensively assessed. The aim of the study was to evaluate level of professional awareness of senior grade students, and to compare professional awareness between the students who prefer the department on their willingness and the students who prefer the department unwillingly. Methods: For this study, 10 universities were selected to be as samples in Turkey. A 10-item survey was applied to the participants about professional awareness. The descriptive statistics were given. Chi-Square test was used to compare the students' professional awareness levels. Results: The 850 senior students from physiotherapy and rehabilitation participated in the study. The 71.19% of the questions were answered correctly. It was detected that 77.29% of the participants preferred due to their wish. There was no difference in terms of professional awareness among those who preferred the department whether based on their wish and not (p>0.05). Conclusion: In this study, it was seen that most of the last year physiotherapy and rehabilitation students had good professional awareness. However, level of professional awareness in some schools was moderate. We thought that it would be beneficial to accomplish activities such as seminars and interviews for increasing the levels of professional awareness in these schools.

Repetitive tasks, high force, direct pressure, and awkward joint and prolonged constrained posture are cited as prime risk factors, making particularly younger adult physiotherapists vulnerable to musculoskeletal injury. Fourth-grade students (interns) perform clinical practice at Afyon Kocatepe University Hospital. They apply hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, robotic therapy, virtual reality therapy and exercise therapy to patients (inpatient and outpatient) at both orthopaedic and neurology units approximately twelve months. Because we think they are under the risk of low back and neck disorders therefore aim of the present study is to evaluate recent low back and neck pain and disability of them. 50.6% participants had recent low back pain; 52.9% participants reported mild and moderate low back disability. 21.8% participants had recent neck pain; 16% participants showed mild, moderate and severe neck disability. The difference between units related to low back and neck pain or disability wasn’t significant statistically (p>0.05). Most participants announced that they used the body biomechanics correctly (84.1%) and took care of ergonomic conditions (91.5%). In conclusion, it is vital to identify prevalence of low back and neck pain among physiotherapy students and take necessary precautions to prevent further problems.

In latest years, physiotherapists have been progressively interested in defining their professional identity. For this purpose, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Departments of universities in Turkey lecture courses about this profession. The students have the opportunity to improve their professional awareness in these courses. The aim of this research is to determine the professional awareness of the students of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Afyon Kocatepe University. In the present study, “Professional Awareness Questionnaire” was applied to 227 students who is the first, second, third and fourth grade students at Afyon Kocatepe University. According to this study, the most correctly answered question was related to type of grade point for placement the department (95.2%). İnterns respond more questions correctly (p0.05). In conclusion, the findings from this study show that professional awareness can be influenced by individual differences. However, the level of professional awareness and the interest in the profession of the student can be increased by professional courses.
