Previous studies on gender differences in mental health has reported significantly different results. Inconclusive results have also been obtained from existing literature focused on differences in psychological well-being in organizations and industries between women and men. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of gender differences on psychological well-being of state Islamic religious universities lecturers. The study procedures were carried out with a quantitative method, focusing on 652 lecturers from Indonesian state Islamic universities. The selected respondents were assessed with the Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale and the Bem Sex Role Inventory. The data obtained were then analyzed using MANOVA to determine differences between 2 gender groups, namely male and female. The results showed that there were significant gender differences in psychological well-being between male and female lecturers at state Islamic religious universities. In terms of autonomy and self-acceptance, men outscored women, while in terms of personal growth and positive relationships with others, women had higher scores. In addition, high masculinity was the most significant factor in both men's and women's psychological well-being.

Abstract This study aims to elucidate the clinical and molecular characteristics, treatment outcomes and prognostic factors of patients with histone H3 K27-mutant diffuse midline glioma. We retrospectively analyzed 93 patients with diffuse midline glioma (47 thalamus, 24 brainstem, 12 spinal cord and 10 other midline locations) treated at 24 affiliated hospitals in the Kansai Molecular Diagnosis Network for CNS Tumors. Considering the term “midline” areas, which had been confused in previous reports, we classified four midline locations based on previous reports and anatomical findings. Clinical and molecular characteristics of the study cohort included: age 4–78 years, female sex (41%), lower-grade histology (56%), preoperative Karnofsky performance status (KPS) scores ≥ 80 (49%), resection (36%), adjuvant radiation plus chemotherapy (83%), temozolomide therapy (76%), bevacizumab therapy (42%), HIST1H3B p.K27M mutation (2%), TERT promoter mutation (3%), MGMT promoter methylation (9%), BRAF p.V600E mutation (1%), FGFR1 mutation (14%) and EGFR mutation (3%). Median progression-free and overall survival time was 9.9 ± 1.0 (7.9–11.9, 95% CI) and 16.6 ± 1.4 (13.9–19.3, 95% CI) months, respectively. Female sex, preoperative KPS score ≥ 80, adjuvant radiation + temozolomide and radiation ≥ 50 Gy were associated with favorable prognosis. Female sex and preoperative KPS score ≥ 80 were identified as independent good prognostic factors. This study demonstrated the current state of clinical practice for patients with diffuse midline glioma and molecular analyses of diffuse midline glioma in real-world settings. Further investigation in a larger population would contribute to better understanding of the pathology of diffuse midline glioma.

This style became popular in the 1950-1970s with the start of experimentation with building materials in line with the social movements of that time. This research uses an exploratory approach based on a longitudinal study of similar studies. The discussion focused on the architects' revolutionary thinking towards unique designs through form manipulation and material exploration. The results of his work show the determination of form seekers, material experimentation, and the enthusiasm of young architects for monumental architecture. Massive and unadorned reinforced concrete frames, simplicity, minimal ornamentation, small windows, and rough surfaces are usually used for government buildings, institutions, and high-rise housing. The popularity of Brutalism spread to the Far East. The formation of Brutalist architecture in Malaysia left its mark on the urban landscape, but developed into a combination of architectural compositions in architectural pedagogy.

The place identity needs to be resurfaced visual-architecturally through place-making and community engagement. From participatory identification of tangible and intangible cultural assets, cultural mapping can increase awareness of cultural assets and a sense of belonging, facilitate network development and collaboration, and prepare village development programs according to local potential. This study aims to compile the potential and resources of Kampung Baran in a participatory manner, and then present it as significant cultural character data in shaping the identity of the place. The research was conducted qualitatively through asset mapping and community identity mapping. Asset mapping is related to the physical resources, while community identity mapping identifies intangible resources. Physical data recording is done through field observation. The on-site data mapping is triangulated through focus group discussions and in-community conversation to identify the intangible resources. Furthermore, the data were categorised, and the relations were analysed to compile the cultural mapping. The results showed that the unity between architectural elements (recontextualization of Omah Gejug), communal space according to the taneyan pattern of Kampung Baran, typical plants, local culinary, traditional arts and language, as well as socio-cultural systems and structures can be visualized to support the revitalization of place identity.

The Dayak Kenyah community is a dynamic tribe influenced by its socio-cultural context. Socio-cultural changes will affect the form of settlement. This journal focuses on the influence of the socio-cultural context on the settlement morphology of the Dayak Kenyah tribe in the Budaya Pampang Village to get meaning in forming their settlements. This study uses Levi-Strauss structuralism to see the meaning behind the relationship between the spatial morphology of settlements and socio-culture from data collection results such as physical evidence, interviews, and questionnaires. The results of this study found the meaning of defense, togetherness and kinship, spirituality, harmony with nature, and adaptation in the spatial formation of Dayak Kenyah settlements.

Ischemic stroke is a major cerebrovascular disease with high morbidity and mortality rates; however, effective treatments for ischemic stroke-related neurological dysfunction have yet to be developed. In this study, we generated neural progenitor cells from human leukocyte antigen major loci gene-homozygous-induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC-NPCs) and evaluated their therapeutic effects against ischemic stroke. hiPSC-NPCs were intracerebrally transplanted into rat ischemic brains produced by transient middle cerebral artery occlusion at either the subacute or acute stage, and their in vivo survival, differentiation, and efficacy for functional improvement in neurological dysfunction were evaluated. hiPSC-NPCs were histologically identified in host brain tissues and showed neuronal differentiation into vGLUT-positive glutamatergic neurons, extended neurites into both the ipsilateral infarct and contralateral healthy hemispheres, and synaptic structures formed 12 weeks after both acute and subacute stage transplantation. They also improved neurological function when transplanted at the subacute stage with γ-secretase inhibitor pretreatment. However, their effects were modest and not significant and showed a possible risk of cells remaining in their undifferentiated and immature status in acute-stage transplantation. These results suggest that hiPSC-NPCs show cell replacement effects in ischemic stroke-damaged neural tissues, but their efficacy is insufficient for neurological functional improvement after acute or subacute transplantation. Further optimization of cell preparation methods and the timing of transplantation is required to balance the efficacy and safety of hiPSC-NPC transplantation.

Engagement plays an important role in academic success and in the world of work, it is a hallmark of an optimal learning experience (Bilge, Tuzkol, Dots, & Cetin, 2014). Engaged students usually do well in their studies (Kuh, Kinzie, Buckley, Bridges, & Hayek, 2007; Salanova, Schaufeli, Martinez, & Breso, 2010). Therefore, academic engagement is needed for students, so that the objectives of the academic process activities can be achieved effectively and efficiently. This study aims to determine the effect of gratitude, academic self-efficacy, on academic engagement. The sample in this study were students of the Faculty of Psychology, Raden Fatah State Islamic University Palembang with a total population of 968 students. The sample in this study amounted to 155 students of the psychology faculty. The sampling technique in this study uses a non probability sampling technique, which means that not all students have the same opportunity to be used as research samples. Data analysis will be carried out by linear regression analysis at a significance level of 0.005, using the SPSS.20 application. The results showed that there was a significant effect of gratitude, academic self-efficacy academic engagement (R2 = 29.4%). The results of the hypothesis test show that gratitude and academic self-efficacy have a significant effect on academic engagement.

Jatinegara Station is considered as an A class station in Jakarta, which has been around for 111 years since it opened in 1909. This station has been redeveloped in terms of railway facilities and building infrastructure owing to the Double-doubled Track (DDT) project. This renovation attracts discourses in the topic of cultural heritage building’s sustainability, the functionality of the heritage building as an infrastructure building, and the compability of the new concourse building when being compared to the heritage building. Research based on intertextuality study is used to find reasons for development based on the historical and social aspects of today's society. The reasearch of intertextual relationship between the text of Jatinegara Station and the sociohistorical text can provide a further understanding on the renovation in the hope that the public could appreciate the renovations that has been carried out. The methodology used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach, the analysis will undergo through suprasegmental and intertextual technique provided by Julia Kristeva. This research takes a case study of traditional architecture in Lampung Province with the material and method used is descriptive qualitative by taking data and analyzing it deductively. The data was obtained from secondary data in the form of books, journals, and other sources related to the traditional architecture of Lampung. The analytical technique used is descriptive exploratory with the results of the analysis of the Kenali traditional house showing a broad understanding of space and adaptation to the environment. The form and system that supports the building are one of the community's efforts to complement and explore its natural and cultural potential. In terms of structure, construction, and connection system, this traditional house also has local wisdom that can be developed and can be used as an alternative for construction completion and natural disaster management to date.

Nowadays, the high development of technologies and the density of the population demands high housing necessity. If there is no balanced between them and the environmentally concept, it will certainly cause problems to the next generation in the future. The sustainability concept in architecture is one alternative way which can be used to overcome this problem. Based on the prior theory, the traditional house applies the concept of sustainable architecture. Osing Traditional House from Osing Tribe also uses the concept. The Osing traditional house is located in Banyuwangi City. This study aims to prove the truth of the theory of sustainable architecture concept in traditional houses, especially in the Osing Traditional Houses in Banyuwangi and identify spatial patterns, structures, materials and other parameters that are considered to sustainable aspects. In the study, it was found that the Osing Traditional House includes aspects of topography, spatial patterns, structures and building materials as well as other parameters that contain to sustainable aspects. Abstract Background Mutations in driver genes such as IDH and BRAF have been identified in gliomas. Meanwhile, dysregulations in the p53, RB1, and MAPK and/or PI3K pathways are involved in the molecular pathogenesis of glioblastoma. RAS family genes activate MAPK through activation of RAF and PI3K to promote cell proliferation. RAS mutations are a well-known driver of mutation in many types of cancers, but knowledge of their significance for glioma is insufficient. The purpose of this study was to reveal the frequency and the clinical phenotype of RAS mutant in gliomas. Methods This study analysed RAS mutations and their clinical significance in 242 gliomas that were stored as unfixed or cryopreserved specimens removed at Kyoto University and Osaka National Hospital between May 2006 and October 2017. The hot spots mutation of IDH1/2, H3F3A, HIST1H3B, and TERT promoter and exon 2 and exon 3 of KRAS, HRAS, and NRAS were analysed with Sanger sequencing method, and 1p/19q codeletion was analysed with multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification. DNA methylation array was performed in some RAS mutant tumours to improve accuracy of diagnosis. Results RAS mutations were identified in four gliomas with three KRAS mutations and one NRAS mutation in one anaplastic oligodendroglioma, two anaplastic astrocytomas (IDH wild-type in each), and one ganglioglioma. RAS-mutant gliomas were identified with various types of glioma histology. Conclusion RAS mutation appears infrequent, and it is not associated with any specific histological phenotype of glioma.

Abstract The characteristics of IDH-wild-type lower-grade astrocytoma remain unclear. According to cIMPACT-NOW update 3, IDH-wild-type astrocytomas with any of the following factors show poor prognosis: combination of chromosome 7 gain and 10 loss (+ 7/− 10), and/or EGFR amplification, and/or TERT promoter (TERTp) mutation. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) can detect copy number alterations at reasonable cost. The purpose of this study was to identify a precise, cost-effective method for stratifying the prognosis of IDH-wild-type astrocytoma. Sanger sequencing, MLPA, and quantitative methylation-specific PCR were performed for 42 IDH-wild-type lower-grade astrocytomas surgically treated at Kyoto University Hospital, and overall survival was analysed for 40 patients who underwent first surgery. Of the 42 IDH-wild-type astrocytomas, 21 were classified as grade 4 using cIMPACT-NOW update 3 criteria and all had either TERTp mutation or EGFR amplification. Kaplan–Meier analysis confirmed the prognostic significance of cIMPACT-NOW criteria, and World Health Organization grade was also prognostic. Abstract The efficacy of aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA)-based photodynamic diagnosis (5-ALA-PDD) and photodynamic therapy (5-ALA-PDT) is dependent on 5-ALA-induced cancer-specific accumulation of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX). We previously reported that inhibition of oncogenic Ras/MEK increases PpIX accumulation in cancer cells by reducing PpIX efflux through ATP-binding cassette sub-family B member 1 (ABCB1) and ferrochelatase (FECH)-catalysed PpIX conversion to haem. Here, we sought to identify the downstream pathways of Ras/MEK involved in the regulation of PpIX accumulation via ABCB1 and FECH. First, we demonstrated that Ras/MEK activation reduced PpIX accumulation in RasV12-transformed NIH3T3 cells and HRAS transgenic mice. Knockdown of p90 ribosomal S6 kinases (RSK) 2, 3, or 4 increased PpIX accumulation in RasV12-transformed NIH3T3 cells. Further, treatment with an RSK inhibitor reduced ABCB1 expression and increased PpIX accumulation. Moreover, HIF-1α expression was reduced when RasV12-transformed NIH3T3 cells were treated with a MEK inhibitor, demonstrating that HIF-1α is a downstream element of MEK. HIF-1α inhibition decreased FECH activity and increased PpIX accumulation. Finally, we demonstrated the involvement of RSKs and HIF-1α in the regulation of PpIX accumulation in human cancer cell lines. These results demonstrate that the RSK-ABCB1 and HIF-1α-FECH axes are the downstream pathways of Ras/MEK involved in the regulation of PpIX accumulation.

Whistleblowing is a disclosure act made by members of organization related to illegal practices of the organization. Trust in leadership and incentive is related to whistleblowing intention and has become a consideration for a whistleblower in conducting his/her whistleblowing actions. When an employee knows the existence of fraud, he can report the fraud to the leaders of his company when he believes that the leaders of his company can eradicate that fraud. This study was accounting undergraduate students as subjects. This study was aimed to examine the potential of employees’ whistleblowing intentions in the existence of trust toward their leaders and in the existence of incentives. This study used an experimental design of 2x2 between subjects. The treatments were given in the form of trust in leadership (high and low level of leadership) and incentives (existence of incentives and no incentives).

The cyclin-dependent kinase ( CDK) inhibitor, flavopiridol, was tested as a potential new cancer therapeutic agent to treat canine lymphoma by examining its effect on cell growth of canine lymphoma cell lines in vitro. Flavopiridol induced profound cell death in all eight lymphoma cell lines at 400 nM, and in all cases cell death was due to apoptosis. Apoptosis was inhibited by caspase inhibitor, despite the variable sensitivities between cell lines. Analysis of the mechanism of flavopiridol-induced apoptosis showed that Rb phosphorylation was inhibited, possibly due to CDK4 or CDK6 inhibition. There was also decreased expression of Rb protein and anti-apoptotic proteins, Mcl-1 and XIAP, possibly through transcriptional regulation by inhibition of CDK7 or CDK9 activation. Canine lymphoma cell line-xenotransplanted mice were then treated with flavopiridol and profound tumour shrinkage was observed. Abstract The diagnosis and prognostication of glioblastoma (GBM) remain to be solely dependent on histopathological findings and few molecular markers, despite the clinical heterogeneity in this entity. To address this issue, we investigated the prognostic impact of copy number alterations (CNAs) using two population-based IDH-wild-type GBM cohorts: an original Japanese cohort and a dataset from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). The molecular disproportions between these cohorts were dissected in light of cohort differences in GBM. The Japanese cohort was collected from cases registered in Kansai Molecular Diagnosis Network for CNS tumors (KNBTG). The somatic landscape around CNAs was analyzed for 212 KNBTG cases and 359 TCGA cases. Next, the clinical impacts of CNA profiles were investigated for 140 KNBTG cases and 152 TCGA cases treated by standard adjuvant therapy using temozolomide-based chemoradiation. The comparative profiling indicated unequal distribution of specific CNAs such as EGFR, CDKN2A, and PTEN among the two cohorts. Especially, the triple overlap CNAs in these loci (triple CNA) were much higher in frequency in TCGA (70.5%) than KNBTG (24.3%), and its prognostic impact was independently validated in both cohorts. The KNBTG cohort significantly showed better prognosis than the TCGA cohort (median overall survival 19.3 vs 15.6 months). This survival difference between the two cohorts completely resolved after subclassifying all cases according to the triple CNA status. The prognostic significance of triple CNA was identified in IDH-wild-type GBM. Distribution difference in prognostic CNA profiles potentially could cause survival differences across cohorts in clinical studies.

Pada akhir era Majapahit, umat Budha mendirikan bangunan suci di dekat sumber air Sumberawan Desa Toyomerto dengan tujuan untuk memperkuat khasiat air dan mengubahnya menjadi tirta amerta. Selain bermakna suci dan digunakan untuk upacara ritual, air Sumberawan juga digunakan untuk mengairi sawah dan memenuhi kebutuhan air bersih masyarakat desa. Setiap tahun, mereka mengadakan Slametan Banyu. Kajian ini menyoroti sumber air dalam ruang budaya masyarakat Desa Toyomerto, khususnya dikaitkan dengan upaya menjaga kelestarian sumber air. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan antropologi-historis dan antropologi-ekologi. Data-data dianalisis dengan teknik analisis wacana. Wacana yang dianalisis adalah sumber air dari perspektif budaya. Hasil kajian menunjukkan upaya masyarakat Desa Toyomerto dalam menjaga kelestarian sumber air tak hanya dilakukan secara fisik, tetapi juga secara transendental. Pendirian candi di sumber air, mitos, dan cerita-cerita rakyat yang dipercaya kebenarannnya oleh masyarakat mencegah kemungkinan terjadinya kerusakan sumber air. Kelestarian sumber air dijaga dengan jalan menjaga keseimbangan hubungan vertikal-transendental dan horisontal-sosial. Kata kunci: sumber air, ritual, ruang budaya

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah melihat hubungan antara work engagement dan spiritualitas. Hipotesis yang diajukan dalam penelitian ini adalah ada hubungan positif antara spiritualitas dan work engagement. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah karyawan PT. Bukit Asam, Persero berjumlah 46 orang. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua macam skala yaitu Skala Work Engagement berdasarkan dimensi Work Engagement Schaufeli & Bakker (2003), dan Skala Spiritualitas berdasarkan dimensi Spiritualitas Milliman (2003). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara work engagement dan spiritualitas pada karyawan PT. Bukit Asam, Persero. Ketika karyawan secara spiritual menemukan makna yang dalam dengan pekerjaannya maka karyawan akan memperlihatkan tingkat engagement yang tinggi dengan menunjukkan semangat, dedikasi, dan konsentrasi penuh terhadap pekerjaan.

This paper is a review of the importance of interdisciplinary reviews in assessing the cosmological aspects of architecture. Architecture is a discipline that focuses on the study of the human environment. Environment and humans are very complex objects. Studies of people and architecture need to involve other disciplines. Involving other disciplines will help the understanding of people and architecture as a cultural product. Cosmology is the key to understanding architecture, especially the architecture of pre-modern society. By analysing the substance of some theories and architectural research on cosmology obtained the conclusion that in reviewing cosmological aspects in architecture is required interdisciplinary studies because architecture is an object that needs to be viewed from many perspectives. Cluster of differentiation (CD) 166 or activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM) is a transmembrane molecule known to be an intercellular adhesion factor. The expression and function of ALCAM in medulloblastoma (MB), a pediatric brain tumor with highly advanced molecular genetics, remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the significance and functional role of ALCAM expression in MB. ALCAM expression in 45 patients with MB was evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded clinical specimens and the relationship between ALCAM expression and pathological type/molecular subgroup, such as WNT, SHH, Group 3, and Group 4, was examined. Eight ALCAM positive (18%), seven partially positive (16%), and 30 negative (67%) cases were detected. All seven cases of the WNT molecular subgroup were ALCAM positive and ALCAM expression strongly correlated with this subgroup (P < 0.0001). In addition, functional studies using MB cell lines revealed ALCAM expression affected proliferation and migration as a positive regulator in vitro. However, ALCAM silencing did not affect survival or the formation of leptomeningeal dissemination in an orthotopic mouse model, but did induce a malignant phenotype with increased tumor cell invasion at the dissemination sites (P = 0.0029). In conclusion, our results revealed that ALCAM exhibited highly specific expression in the WNT subgroup of MB. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the cell kinetics of MB cell lines can be altered by the expression of ALCAM.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif korelasional yang bertujuan untuk mengkaji secara ilmiah hubungan antara kematangan beragama dengan strategi coping pada santriwati di Pondok Pesantren Tahfidz Putri Al-Lathifiyyah Palembang.Teknik yang digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel adalah purposive sampling dengan jumlah sampel penelitian sebanyak 50 santriwati yang mukim di Pondok Pesantren Tahfidz Putri Al-Lathifiyyah Palembang. Hasil uji validitas alat ukur kematangan beragama pada santriwati berkisar antara 0,313-0,625 dengan reliabilitas sebesar 0,880 sedangkan validitas alat ukur strategi coping pada santriwati yaitu skala problem focused coping berkisar antara 0,325-0,712 dengan reliabilitas sebesar 0,918 dan skala emotional focused coping berkisar antara 0,305-0,838 dengan reliabilitas 0,842. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan uji korelasional Product Moment dari Karl Person. Penelitian ini memberikan hasil bahwa ada hubungan antara variabel kematangan beragama dengan strategi coping dengan nilai r=0,443 dan sumbangan sebesar 19,6%. Dengan demikian hipotesis yang diajukan dalam penelitian ini diterima, yaitu terdapat hubungan antara kematangan beragama dengan strategi coping pada santriwati. Artinya, semakin tinggi kematangan beragama yang diperoleh santriwati maka akan semakin tinggi strategi coping menuju kepada problem focused coping saat ia bermasalah, sebaliknya santriwati yang memiliki kematangan beragama yang relatif rendah maka akan lebih cenderung memilih emotional focused coping dalam penyelesaian masalahnya. Ini berarti tinggi rendahnya kematangan beragama mampu menjadi salah satu prediktor bagi tinggi rendahnya strategi coping.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between religiosity and Islamic work ethic. The initial assumption is proposed in this study is that there is a positive relationship between religiosity and Islamic work ethic. Subjects in the study is a lecturer at the Faculty of Islamic Theology and Islamic Thought UIN Raden Fatah Palembang as many as 36 people. This study uses a scale of adaptation and modification by the Islamic Work Ethics Scale Zimbalist (2014) based on the characteristics of Islamic work ethic in Tasmara (2010), as well as by Khotimah Religiosity Scale (2013) based on the dimensions of religiosity by Ancok & Suroso (2008); Nashori & Mucharam (2002). CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic disease that is more frequent in women of reproductive age. The relationship between lupus and pregnancy is problematic: maternal and fetal outcomes are worse than in the general population, and the management of flare-ups is difficult during this period. The aim here was to compare the outcomes of 76 pregnancies in 67 women with lupus, according to the occurrence or absence of flare-ups. DESIGN AND SETTING: An observational cohort clinical study evaluating the evolution of pregnant women with lupus who were receiving care at the prenatal outpatient clinic, Centro de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Mulher, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (CAISM/Unicamp), between 1995 and 2002. METHODS: Data were collected on a precoded form. The women were divided into two groups according to the occurrence or absence of flare-ups, as defined by the systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity index (SLEDAI). The presence or absence of flare-ups and renal involvement was considered to be the independent variable and the other results were dependent variables. RESULTS: Flare-ups occurred in 85.3% of cases, and were most significant when there was renal involvement. This was related to greater numbers of women with preeclampsia and poor perinatal outcome. Intrauterine growth restriction was more common in the women with active disease. Placental weight was significantly lower in the women with renal involvement. CONCLUSIONS: Flare-ups and renal involvement in lupus patients during pregnancy are associated with increased maternal and perinatal complications.

Standard model CP violation associated with the phase of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix is known to give small answers for the electric dipole moment (EDM) observables. Moreover, predictions for the EDMs of neutrons and diamagnetic atoms suffer from considerable uncertainties. We point out that the CP-violating observables associated with the electron spin (paramagnetic EDMs) are dominated by the combination of the electroweak penguin diagrams and ΔI=1/2 weak transitions in the baryon sector, and are calculable within chiral perturbation theory. The predicted size of the semileptonic operator C&#95;{S} is 7×10^{-16}, which corresponds to the equivalent electron EDM d&#95;{e}^{eq}=1.0×10^{-35}  e cm. While still far from the current observational limits, this result is 3 orders of magnitude larger than previously believed.

Given current discrepancy in muon g-2 and future dedicated efforts to measure muon electric dipole moment (EDM) d&#95;{μ}, we assess the indirect constraints imposed on d&#95;{μ} by the EDM measurements performed with heavy atoms and molecules. We notice that the dominant muon EDM effect arises via the muon-loop induced "light-by-light" CP-odd amplitude ∝BE^{3}, and in the vicinity of a large nucleus the corresponding parameter of expansion can be significant, eE&#95;{nucl}/m&#95;{μ}^{2}∼0.04. We compute the d&#95;{μ}-induced Schiff moment of the ^{199}Hg nucleus, and the linear combination of d&#95;{e} and semileptonic C&#95;{S} operator (dominant in this case) that determine the CP-odd effects in the ThO molecule. The results, d&#95;{μ}(^{199}Hg)<6×10^{-20}  e cm and d&#95;{μ}(ThO)<2×10^{-20}  e cm, constitute approximately threefold and ninefold improvements over the limits on d&#95;{μ} extracted from the Brookhaven National Laboratory muon beam experiment.

Purpose: Angiogenesis is closely related to the pathophysiology of diseases such as cancer or ischemia. Here, we investigated the effect of lidocaine at clinically effective blood concentrations on vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A)-induced angiogenesis. In addition, we aimed to clarify the mechanisms by which lidocaine could inhibit angiogenesis., Methods: Angiogenesis was analyzed using commercially available in vitro assay kits in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs)/normal human dermal fibroblast co-culture systems. The effects of lidocaine on cytotoxicity, VEGF-induced cell migration, and VEGF-induced cell proliferation were examined in HUVECs using lactate dehydrogenase cytotoxic, Boyden chamber, and WST-8 assays, respectively. The VEGF signaling pathway via VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR-2) was analyzed by western blotting., Results: Lidocaine elicited a significant dose-dependent, angiogenesis-inhibitory effect at a concentration range of 1-10 μg/ml. At this concentration range, cell death was not observed. Lidocaine, at a concentration of 10 μg/ml, significantly inhibited cell proliferation but not cell migration, induced by VEGF-A in HUVECs. Furthermore, lidocaine, in a dose-dependent manner, significantly inhibited the VEGF-A-induced phosphorylation of VEGFR-2 at 3 and 10 μg/ml., Conclusion: We demonstrated that lidocaine has an anti-angiogenesis effect on clinically effective blood concentrations without causing cell death. This finding could represent a new avenue for future research into anesthesia, cancer-related analgesia, and revascularization therapy.

Sub-GeV dark matter particles up-scattered by cosmic rays gain enough kinetic energy to pass the thresholds of large volume detectors on Earth. We then use public Super-Kamiokande and MiniBooNE data to derive a novel limit on the scattering cross section of dark matter with electrons that extends down to sub-keV masses, closing a previously allowed wide region of parameter space. We finally discuss search strategies and prospects at existing and planned neutrino facilities.

P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) is an adhesive molecule that is known to be a ligand for P-selectin. An anti-adhesive property of PSGL-1 has not been previously reported. In this study, we show that PSGL-1 expression is anti-adhesive for adherent cells and we have elucidated the underlying mechanism. Overexpression of PSGL-1 induced cell rounding and floating in HEK293T cells. Similar phenomena were demonstrated in other adherent cell lines with overexpression of PSGL-1. PSGL-1 overexpression inhibits access of antibodies to cell surface molecules such as integrins, HLA and CD25. Cells transfected with PSGL-1 deletion mutants that lack a large part of the extracellular domain and chimeric construct expressing extracellular CD86 and intracellular PSGL-1 only showed rounded morphology, but there are no floating cells. These results indicated that PSGL-1 causes steric hindrance due to the extended structure of its extracellular domain that is highly O-glycosylated, but intracellular domain also has some effect on cell rounding. Five novel, canine lymphoma cell lines (Ema, CLC, CLK, Nody-1 and UL-1) were established from dogs suffering from lymphoma and characterized in vitro and in vivo. All cell lines, except CLC, were characterized with T-cell phenotypes, by flow cytometric analysis and polymerase chain reaction for antigen receptor rearrangement. Cell proliferation rates and transcriptional levels of MYC, PTEN, KIT and FLT3 varied between each cell line. Intraperitoneal xenotransplantation of Ema, CLC, Nody-1 and UL-1 lymphoma cell lines into NOD/SCID mice induced ascites, intraperitoneal tumors and severe infiltration of lymphoma cells into the pancreas and mesentery. Establishment of novel canine lymphoma cell lines with different characteristics is critical for elucidating the pathophysiology of canine lymphoma and improving current therapies.

We have developed an automatic modeling system for calculation processes of the simulator to reproduce experimental results of chemical vapor deposition (CVD), in order to decrease the calculation cost of the simulator. Replacing the simulator by the mathematical models proposed by the system will contribute towards decreasing the calculation costs for predicting the experimental results. The system consists of a mobile agent and two software resources in computer networks, that is, generalized modeling software and a simulator reproducing cross-sections of the deposited films on the substrates with the micrometer- or nanometer-sized trenches. The mobile agent autonomously creates appropriate models by moving to and then operating the software resources. The models are calculated by partial least squares regression (PLS), quadratic PLS (QPLS) and error back propagation (BP) methods using artificial neural networks (ANN) and expresses by mathematical formulas to reproduce the calculated results of the simulator. The models show good reproducibility and predictability both for uniformity and filling properties of the films calculated by the simulator. The models using the BP method yield the best performance. The filling property data are more suitable to modeling than film uniformity.

The identification of appropriate reaction models is very helpful for developing chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. In this study, we have developed an automatic system to model reaction mechanisms in the CVD processes by analyzing the experimental results, which are cross-sectional shapes of the deposited films on substrates with micrometer- or nanometer-sized trenches. We designed the inference engine to model the reaction mechanism in the system by the use of real-coded genetic algorithms (RCGAs). We studied the dependence of the system performance on two methods using simple genetic algorithms (SGAs) and the RCGAs; the one involves the conventional GA operators and the other involves the blend crossover operator (BLX-alpha). Although we demonstrated that the systems using both the methods could successfully model the reaction mechanisms, the RCGAs showed the better performance with respect to the accuracy and the calculation cost for identifying the models.

Thirteen different monoclonal antibodies against canine P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (cPSGL-1) were obtained by immunization of rats with cells of a canine lymphoma cell line (Ema). O-sialoglycoprotein endopeptidase treatment of Ema cells showed that all of these antibodies recognized O-glycosylated peptides of canine PSGL-1. Experiments using deletion or point mutants of cPSGL-1 indicated that these antibodies could be categorized into several groups based on their cPSGL-1 recognition characteristics. Atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation (AARS) is an infrequent condition that occurs most commonly in children for unknown reasons. Pediatric surgery, otopharyngeal inflammation, general anesthesia, and extreme rotation of the head are risk factors for development of postsurgical AARS, but AARS can often occur unnoticed, and the syndrome is not well known. We encountered three cases of postoperative AARS that occurred within 7 months; therefore, we have developed guidelines for prevention and early treatment of postoperative AARS. Postoperative AARS cannot be eliminated completely, but informed consent, a preoperative check, an appropriate surgical position, and a postoperative check may reduce the risk and damage related to this condition.

Catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) are recognized as an important and serious problem, especially in an intensive care unit (ICU), since they have far higher infection rates compared to those for other type of intravascular devices. However, in the operation room, there seems to be little concern among anesthesiologists regarding this problem. It is important for anesthesiologists to understand that CRBSIs can be prevented or reduced by evidence-based interventions such as hand hygiene, education in hand washing and alcohol-based hand rubbing, sterile catheter care techniques, proper skin disinfection, maximal barrier precautions during catheter insertion, choice of subclavian vein placement, avoidance of femoral vein placement, and removal of an unnecessary catheter. This evidence is based mainly on findings in ICU patients, but introduction of these interventions into operation rooms may be very useful for reducing perioperative CRBSIs.

This report describes a patient with mitochondrial encephalomyopathy who underwent tracheostomy under total intravenous anesthesia. This 15-year-old girl had been suffering from aspiration pneumonia repeatedly. Anesthesia was induced with propofol (30 mg) and fentanyl (50 microg), and the trachea was intubated without a muscle relaxant. The patient was mechanically ventilated also without a relaxant, and anesthesia was maintained with a continuous infusion of propofol 4-10 mg x kg(-1) x hr(-1) and a bolus injection of fentanyl 25 microg. Bispectral index (BIS) was monitored and maintained at 15-65. The patient showed smooth recovery from anesthesia, and the BIS value returned to the pre-anesthetic level 15 minutes after completion of the anesthesia. Her postoperative course was uneventful. We conclude that total intravenous anesthesia by propofol and fentanyl is a preferable method for the management of the patient with mitochondrial encephalomyopathy.
