Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate the optical properties of nanohybrid Grandio (GR) and nanoceramic Lava Ultimate (LU) CAD/CAM restorative materials subjected to different beverage solutions and subsequently bleached. Abstract Background Blood loss is one of the major problems during operations of spine fusion. Several blood-conservative measures were applied to reduce the incidence of blood loss—among them, acute hypervolemic hemodilution (AHH) and controlled hypotension (CH). This study was designed to detect the effect of combination of AHH with CH induced by remifentanil versus magnesium sulfate on the volume of blood loss, allogeneic blood transfusion, hemodynamics, coagulation, and electrolytes during operations for spine fusion which are risky operations with high incidence of blood loss and blood transfusion. Sixty patients scheduled for posterior fusion of the spine were randomly allocated into three groups of 20 patients each (group I (AHH), group II (AHH combined with remifentanil-based CH), and group III (AHH combined with magnesium sulfate-based CH)). Estimated blood loss and total volume of packed red blood cells (PRBCS) transfused were recorded. Arterial blood pressure (ABP) and heart rate (HR) measures were recorded. Blood samples were obtained for the detection of hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (HCT). Results Estimated blood loss, percentage blood loss, and intraoperative RBC transfusion units were significantly high in group I in relation to group II and group III (Table 2). Cardiac output was significantly higher in group I in relation to group II and group III at 10, 15, 30, 45, and 60 min after start of AHH. MBP and HR results were significantly high in group I in comparison with group II and group III at 30, 45, 60, and 90 min and 2 and 3 h after start of study drugs. CVP results were significantly high in group I in relation to group II and group III at 15, 30, 45, 60, and 90 min after start of AHH. PTT was significantly increased in the three study groups in comparison with baseline inside each group after AHH. Conclusion Combination of AHH with CH induced by remifentanil or magnesium sulfate was associated with reduction in estimated blood loss, and total volume of PRBCS transfused. There was no significant difference between hemodynamic parameters with the use of remifentanil or magnesium sulfate except that SBP, DBP, and MBP results were significantly high with magnesium sulfate at 15 min after drug infusion. There was significant increase in PT and PTT after AHH that was not reflected by significant blood oozing from the operative field, or by difficulty in hemostasis.

Abstract Background To evaluate the effect of surface treatments on the push-out bond strength of Biodentine (BD) and white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) to fiber posts. Methods Two brands of fiber posts were used: Reblida post; RP and RelyX post; RX. Each type of post (n = 80/group) was divided into four groups (n = 20/group) and exposed to surface treatment as follows: Control (no treatment), sandblasting (SB), hydrofluoric acid (HF), and TiF4 4 wt/v%. Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups (n = 10/subgroup) based on the type of CSCs used as follows: Subgroup A: BD and Subgroup B: WMTA. Push-out bond strength of BD and WMTA to glass fiber posts was assessed. Data were statistically analyzed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test. Background: Emphasizing the pivotal role of caregivers in the cancer care continuum, a program designed to educate caregivers of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy underscores their significance. The palliative care education initiative strives to cultivate a compassionate and effective care environment, benefiting both patients and caregivers. By imparting education, fostering positive attitudes, offering support, encouraging appropriate behaviors, and providing essential resources, the program aims to enhance the overall caregiving experience and contribute to the well-being of those navigating the challenges of cancer treatment. Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of a palliative care education program for caregivers of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods: The research employed a purposive sample comprising 155 caregivers who were actively present with their cancer patients throughout the pre- and post-test phases within a quasi-experimental research design. The study took place at the outpatient oncology center of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Port Said City, Egypt. To gather comprehensive data, 4 instruments were utilized: a demographic questionnaire, a nurse knowledge questionnaire, a scale measuring attitudes toward palliative care, and an assessment of reported practices in palliative care. This methodological approach allowed for a thorough exploration of caregiver perspectives, knowledge, attitudes, and practices within the context of a palliative care education program. Results: Before the palliative care education program, only 1.3% of caregivers had a good overall level of knowledge about cancer and palliative care; this increased to 40.6% after the program. Similarly, before the palliative care education program, 32.9% of caregivers had a positive overall attitude, which increased to 72.3% after the program. Similarly, 27.1% of caregivers had an overall appropriate palliative care practice during the pre-test phase, which increased to 93.5% after the palliative care education program. Significance of the results: The palliative care education program significantly improved caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, and practice scores. It is strongly recommended that caregivers of cancer patients receive continuing education in palliative care. Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of newly developed TruNatomy instruments (TRN) in single and double (S-shaped) curvature canals with HyFlex CM (HCM), Vortex Blue (VB) and RaCe (RC) instruments. Methods Size 20/.04 taper and size 25/0.04 of HCM, VB and RC were used. For TRN instruments, size 20/.04 taper (small) and size 26/.04 taper (prime) were used. The instruments were tested in artificial canals with double curvature (coronal curve; 60° curvature, 5 mm radius and apical curve; 70° curvature and 2 mm radius) and single curvature (60° curvature, 5 mm radius). The number of cycles to failure (NCF) was recorded. Data were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn’s multiple comparison tests. Weibull analysis was performed on NCF data. Statistical significant was set at p 0.05). The probability of survival was higher for HCM and TRN instruments than VB and RC instruments. Conclusions HCM and TRN instruments were more resistant to cyclic fatigue than VB and RC instruments in single and double curvature canals. HCM and TRN instruments were anticipated to survive with higher number of cycles than the other tested instruments. RC instrument had the lowest fatigue resistance than the other instruments.

Objective: The aim of this prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial was to compare the effect of oral premedication of meloxicam, ketorolac, dexamethasone, ibuprofen, or placebo on the success of inferior alveolar nerve blocks (IANB) of mandibular posterior teeth in patients experiencing symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Method and materials: Two hundred and fifty emergency patients in moderate to severe pain diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis of a mandibular first or second molar randomly received, in a double-blind manner, identical capsules containing either meloxicam 7.5 mg, ketorolac 10 mg, dexamethasone 0.5 mg, ibuprofen 600 mg, or placebo 60 minutes before the administration of an IANB. Profound lip numbness was assessed after 15 minutes. Access cavities were then prepared and success of IANB was defined as no or mild pain (Heft-Parker visual analog scale recordings) during access preparation and root canal instrumentation. The data were analyzed using chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: The overall success rates for the meloxicam 7.5 mg, ketorolac 10 mg, dexamethasone 0.5 mg, and ibuprofen 600 mg groups were 52%, 64%, 54%, and 58%, respectively, with no significant differences in success rates among the premedications groups (P > .05). However, the tested premedications revealed significant differences compared with the placebo group (32% success rate) (P < .05). Conclusion: Premedication with meloxicam, ketorolac, dexamethasone, and ibuprofen increased the efficacy of IANB in mandibular molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder affecting the quality of life. The etiology of ADHD is unclear, yet it has been believed to be multifactorial. he aim of this Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) study was to assess the upper airway morphology in adolescents with ADHD compared to controls. Methods: A total of 454 patients who had CBCT taken as part of their initial orthodontic records were reviewed for eligibility. 87 subjects were included in the study. CBCTs volumes were utilized for three-dimensional evaluation of volumetric, minimum cross-section area and linear measurements of the upper airway in different planes. Two sample T-test and Man-Whitney U test were used to calculate and compare the mean values of the airway measurements between ADHD and control groups. The role of Pythium oligandrum as a biocontrol agent against Pythium aphanidermatum was investigated to avoid the harmful impacts of fungicides. Three isolates of P. oligandrum (MS15, MS19, and MS31) were assessed facing the plant pathogenic P. aphanidermatum the causal agent of Glycine max damping-off. The tested Pythium species were recognized according to their cultural and microscopic characterizations. The identification was confirmed through sequencing of rDNA-ITS regions including the 5.8 S rDNA. The biocontrol agent, P. oligandrum, isolates decreased the mycelial growth of the pathogenic P. aphanidermatum with 71.3%, 67.1%, and 68.7% through mycoparasitism on CMA plates. While the half-strength millipore sterilized filtrates of P. oligandrum isolates degrade the pathogenic mycelial linear growth by 34.1%, 32.5%, and 31.7%, and reduce the mycelial dry weight of the pathogenic P. aphanidermatum by 40.1%, 37.4%, and 36.8%, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the most effective antagonistic P. oligandrum isolate (MS15) interaction showed coiling, haustorial parts of P. oligandrum to P. aphanidermatum hyphae. Furthermore, P. oligandrum isolates were proven to enhance the germination of Glycine max seedling to 93.3% in damping-off infection using agar pots and promote germination of up to 80% during soil pot assay. On the other hand, P. oligandrum isolates increase the shoot, root lengths, and the number of lateral roots.

Context: This study evaluated and compared the shaping ability of ProTaper Gold (PG) (PG; Dentsply, Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK, USA) system with ProTaper Universal (PU) (PU; Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland) using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging. Materials and Methods: Forty mesiobuccal canals of mandibular first molars with curvatures of 25−30° were divided into two experimental groups (n = 20) according to the rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) file system used in canal instrumentation as follows: Group PG and group PU. Canals were scanned before and after instrumentation using CBCT scanner to evaluate root canal transportation and centering ratio at 3, 5, and 7 mm from the apex and volumetric changes. Data were statistically analyzed using independent t-tests and the significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results: There was no significant difference between PG and PU systems in the mean volume of removed dentine, canal transportation, and centering ratio (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The PG and PU NiTi rotary systems showed similar root canal shaping abilities in the preparation of mesial canals of mandibular first molars.
