Abstract

Aquatic mammals in Indonesia are officially protected. However, there is a lack of research on these mammals, particularly in relation to potential disease-causing bacteria. A study was conducted in a conservation pond to address this gap, where swab samples were taken from the blowholes of aquatic mammals. The focus was on identifying bacteria that could potentially cause infectious diseases in these animals. The results revealed V. parahaemolyticus bacterial isolates, which showed a 98% similarity to the registered V. parahaemolyticus in NCBI. These bacterial isolates exhibited hemolysin properties and demonstrated resistance to trimethoprim, streptomycin, cephalothin, and penicillin antibiotics.

Abstract

Seekor lumba-lumba hidung botol Indo Pasifik betina yang telah berada di lembaga konservasi selama 2 tahun mengalami gejala tidak nafsu makan. Keadaan lumba-lumba terlihat tidak aktif bergerak dan cenderung berenang menyendiri. Tindakan yang dilakukan adalah pemeriksaan saluran pencernaan menggunakan endoskopi dan didapatkan diagnosa esophageal ulcer dan gastric ulcer. Penanganan pasca pemeriksaan yaitu penyesuaian pemberian pakan, rehidrasi, pemberian antasida, proton pump inhibitor, antibiotik, dan multivitamin. Setelah pengobatan selama 14 hari, dilakukan evaluasi menggunakan endoskopi, terlihat mukosa esofagus serta lambung depan telah membaik, lumba-lumba kembali makan dan beraktivitas normal.

Abstract

Large colon displacement merupakan perpindahan posisi kolon menjadi ke arah kiri disebut left dorsal displacement of colon (LDDC), atau ke arah kanan disebut right dorsal displacement of colon (RDDC). Perpindahan ini menyebabkan kolik pada kuda. Palpasi per rektal pada kuda G. Galunggung menunjukkan adanya perubahan konsistensi dan perpindahan lokasi kolon sehingga dugaan utama adalah terjadinya large colon displacement. Palpasi per rektal daerah nephrosplenic menunjukkan limpa pindah ke arah caudal di dinding kiri abdomen. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kuda G. Galunggung mengalami LDDC. Reposisi mekanis metode nephrosplenic entrapment reposition menggunakan katrol dilakukan untuk mengembalikan posisi kolon yang terperangkap di antara ginjal dan limpa setelah kuda G. Galunggung dibius terlebih dahulu. Konfirmasi secara palpasi per rektal menunjukan bahwa metode tersebut berhasil mengembalikan posisi kolon pada kasus kuda G. Galunggung. Setelah 3 hari perlakuan, kuda makan dan minum secara normal, konsitensi feses normal, serta tidak terjadi kolik maupun ambruk.
