Abstract

This Report concerns the implementation of a process today supported by leading actors from the particle physics community, and worked through in detail by members of an international Working Party. 6. Infrared study of CO adsorbed on Co/γ-Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> based Fischer–Tropsch catalysts; semi-empirical calculations as a tool for vibrational assignments

Abstract

The adsorption of CO(g) on a Co/γ-Al2O3 catalyst has been studied by diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy. The effects of pressure, temperature and the addition of O2(g) and H2(g) have been investigated. Vibrational bands can be assigned to specific carbonyl species on the reduced Co catalyst, at low surface concentration, via a theoretical model. The basis for the model is an empirical relation between the number of valence electrons in transition metal carbonyl complexes and the corresponding carbonyl stretching frequency. This relation has been extended to metallic surfaces and combined with results from extended H&z.uuml;ckel calculations.

Abstract

The vapour phase Raman spectra of the molecules F12CH3, F13CH3, H12CCl3, and H13CCl3 have been recorded at pressures of ca. 1 atmosphere over the fundamental frequency regions. Partly resolved rotational structure is reported for some fundamentals of methyl fluoride. The Raman band contours of the e-species fundamentals have been analysed to yield Coriolis constants from which e-species force constants have been calculated. The Coriolis and force constants so determined are compared with those based on analyses of appropriate vapour phase infra-red spectra.

Abstract

The vapour phase Raman spectra of the molecules HCF3, ClCF3, BrCF3, and ICF3 have been recorded at pressures of up to 1 atmosphere over the fundamental frequency regions. The Raman band contours of the e-species fundamentals have been analysed to yield first-order Coriolis coupling constants from which, together with the fundamental frequencies, e-species force constants of the general harmonic potential function have been evaluated. One force field was found for fluoroform, but two different ones were found for the molecules ClCF3, BrCF3 and ICF3.
