Background: Circadian preference refers to individual differences for mental and physical activity in the morning and evening. We hypothesized, that inadvertent use of electronic media can cause circadian misalignment that influences sleeping habits and sleep quality of young adults. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of circadian preferences on sleeping habits and the association of electronic media use with sleep quality and sleep disturbances. Materials and Methods: A total of 188 subjects were enrolled and divided into three groups: Evening, intermediate, and morning chronotype based on the Morningness-Eveningness score. Electronic media use at bedtime and duration of use were assessed subjectively. Sleep quality and subjective sleep disturbances, daytime sleepiness, and chronotype were assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Epworth Sleepiness Score, and Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire Self-assessment version, respectively. Results: The majority of subjects with the evening chronotypes suffered from poor sleep quality compared to other chronotypes and the difference was statistically significant. In evening-type subjects, electronic media use at bedtime, long sleep latency, short sleep duration, and daytime sleepiness were significantly associated with poor sleep quality with odds ratios of 2.34 (1.08–5.08), 11.42 (4.98–26.19), 8.54 (1.01–68.24), and 1.68 (1.03–2.73), respectively. Conclusion: The majority of evening-type subjects had poor sleep quality, altered sleeping habits, and electronic media use at bedtime is significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Hence, history regarding sleep habits and lifestyle, especially electronic media use, should be taken from young adults, who are coming to the outpatient department for other than sleep disorders, to prevent the development of health-related problems.

In the contemporary digital milieu, children's pervasive engagement with electronic media is ubiquitous in their daily lives, presenting complex implications for their socialization. Prosocial behavior, a cornerstone of social interaction and child development, is intricately intertwined with these digital experiences. This relation gains further depth, considering the significant roles of parent–child relationships and emotion regulation in shaping children's social trajectories. This study surveyed 701 families to examine the association between children's electronic media use and prosocial behavior, specifically exploring the mediating roles of parent–child closeness and emotion regulation. Structural equation modeling was employed for the analysis. Children's electronic media use negatively correlated with prosocial behavior, parent–child closeness, and emotion regulation. In contrast, a positive association emerged between parent–child closeness, emotion regulation, and prosocial behavior. Emotion regulation also correlated positively with prosocial behavior. Statistical analyses revealed that parent–child closeness and emotion regulation function as both individual and sequential mediators in the relation between electronic media use and prosocial behavior. The study's analyses reveal that fostering children's prosocial behavior in the digital era requires strong family ties, effective emotional management, and balanced digital exposure, which are pivotal for their comprehensive development. Surreptitiously collected field recordings of cantors at the pulpit, made in disregard for the rules of synagogue comportment, circulated for decades among a small group of collectors in an underground economy of homemade dubbed cassettes. These secret recordings, referred to as "live davenings," usurp the characteristic ephemerality of prayer to document a twentieth century aesthetic concept of cantorial music as an art form beyond its ritual function. In the past decade, many of these recordings have surfaced on YouTube and file sharing sites, reaching an expanded audience and exposing a new generation to a largely abandoned style of liturgical performance. Through ethnography with field recording makers, internet-savvy collectors, and the artists who use the secrets in the live davening archive to build projects of cantorial revival, this article offers an examination of a body of archival material that has not previously been the topic of any scholarly investigation. Worldwide, internet addiction and suicidal ideation have become serious issues in public health. However, little is known about the underlying mechanisms in the relationship between internet addiction and suicidal ideation. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between internet addiction and suicidal ideation, and the role of meaning in life (MIL) and social support in this relationship. A total of 714 (female= 53.78%; mean age = 18.29 years, SD = 0.68 years) completed internet addiction, suicidal ideation, MIL, and social support measures. Results from PROCESS Model analysis showed higher internet addiction to be associated with a higher risk for suicidal ideation. This association was fully mediated by MIL so that internet addiction predicts suicidal ideation by reducing MIL. Social support moderated the effect of loss of MIL on suicidal ideation; namely, a lower sense of MIL was associated with higher suicidal ideation at low levels of social support, while high social support eliminated the effect of meaninglessness on suicidal ideation among college students. These findings imply a need for intervention in order to prevent suicidal ideation in college students in the digital era. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper presents the analysis of the most frequent linguistic and stylistic means for expressing ethnocultural heterostereotypes in Serbian electronic media. The analysis has been conducted on concrete linguistic excerpts from Serbian electronic media. The paper aims to show characteristics of linguistic and stylistic means for expressing ethnocultural heterostereotypes. The research is a contribution to journalism stylistics. The most frequent linguistic means of ethnocultural heterostereotypes in Serbian electronic media are phraseology with ethnics and metaphors. The analysis of newspaper texts in Serbian digital media showed common choices of phraseology as expressive linguistic means, used to attract and sustain attention. The use of phraseology with ethnics makes factual newspaper text more expressible and draws attention, which also has an impact on shaping ethnocultural stereotypes among readers. In reports and columns, which belong to the publicistic genre, journalists use linguistic and stylistic means for expressing ethnocultural heterotereotypes not to reinforce stereotypes, but to encourage readers to rethink established ideas about other ethnocultural communities.

Objective: This study aimed to assess patients' interest in education content delivered through electronic modalities and identify trends in internet access and use among emergency department patients of various socioeconomic statuses. Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional survey with 50 questions was completed by 241 English and Spanish-speaking patients in 2014 and repeated with 253 participants in 2019 at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center's Emergency Department (UCIMCED). Results: Internet access increased from 83.8 % in 2014 to 88.1 % in 2019. Most internet-using patients owned smartphones (80.1 % in 2014, 89.7 % in 2019). Patients used electronic devices, such as fit bits and activity trackers, to obtain health information. Email was the preferred method for receiving discharge instructions. Conclusions: As of 2019, 88.1 % of UCIMCED patients have access to the internet or email, making electronic media a reasonable venue for patient education. Given that we have a predominantly low-income patient population—61 % and 32 % of respondents in 2014 and 2019, respectively, reporting an income of less than $25,000—these results are provide new avenues to reach patients of all socioeconomic statuses. Innovation: The implications of this study can be used to develop electronic resources tailored to educate emergency department patients about their healthcare beyond the confines of a hospital.

DIGITAL media , *EMOTION regulation , *NURTURING behavior , *DIGITAL technology , *PARENT-child relationships , *STRUCTURAL equation modeling - Abstract
In this digital age, where parental attention is often diverted by digital engagement, the phenomenon of "parental phubbing," defined as parents ignoring their children in favor of mobile devices, is scrutinized for its potential impact on child development. This study, utilizing questionnaire data from 612 parents and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with moderated mediation, examines the potential association between parental phubbing and young children's electronic media use. The findings revealed a correlation between parental phubbing and increased electronic media use in children. Parent–child conflict, informed by instances of parental phubbing, was identified as a partial mediator in this relation. Notably, children's emotion regulation emerged as a moderating factor, with adept regulation linked to reduced adverse effects of parental phubbing and improved relational harmony. These findings underscore the importance of parental awareness of their digital behaviors and the benefits of fostering robust parent–child relationships and supporting children's emotional regulation to nurture well-adjusted "digital citizens" in the contemporary media landscape. Abstract Emergent literacy skills are vital for children’s reading and writing development. While touchscreen devices have been linked to enhanced emergent literacy in developed countries, their impact in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), with limited access to quality apps, is underexplored. Thailand, classified as an upper-middle-income country, presents a unique context with its specific challenges in educational technology, which have not been extensively studied. This study examined the relationship between touchscreen device usage and emergent literacy development in Thai preschool children. Using a cross-sectional design, we analyzed data from 317 Thai children aged 5–6 years, assessing their emergent literacy skills and examining the association with touchscreen device usage through logistic regression analysis. Our findings showed that 79.5% of participants engaged with touchscreen devices, and there was an observed trend suggesting that exclusive tablet users might exhibit enhanced phonological awareness, letter naming, and rapid automatized naming skills. However, these potential improvements did not reach statistical significance when primary caregiver characteristics were taken into account. Our findings highlight the complexity of this relationship and underscore the need for further research to elucidate the potential influences of application quality and screen time engagement on emergent literacy, particularly in LMICs.

The laws in Bosnia and Herzegovina that partially regulate the subject areas are outdated, long since overcome and almost completely non-functional, which effectively prevents the introduction of new technologies, which are becoming more and more convergent day by day with the development of digital services that are based on various types of electronic communication infrastructure. This type of legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina discourages investors from investing in the development of communication infrastructure, which ultimately leads to limited service or low-quality service for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. High-quality and modern regulation of the field of electronic communications is achieved first of all so that all legislative levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with their constitutional competences, pass complex and detailed laws that will regulate the field of electronic communications, following the example of the legislative achievements of the European Union in this areas. Bearing in mind the past experiences in Bosnia and Herzegovina, probably a more functional way is for all legislative levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with their constitutional competences, to pass laws that will regulate the field of electronic communications in such a way as to prescribe the basic principles and basic frameworks of regulation this area, again following the example of the legislative achievements of the European Union in this area.

SOCIAL interaction , *WIRELESS communications , *PRIVACY , *YOUTH psychology , *MULTIPLE regression analysis - Abstract
The internet provides opportunities for social interactions which first occur in an online environment that can lead to meeting up in real life. However, growing concerns around safety and privacy warrant greater study of this modern-day phenomenon. Using a longitudinal dataset of approximately 4,300 20-year-olds in Ireland, this study finds one-in-three report meeting someone from online. Multiple regression reveals that females are less likely to engage in such behaviour, while the trait of 'openness', spending more time on the internet, being non-heterosexual, using dating apps, and being sexually active at 17 years are positively associated. Early exposure to information and communication technologies, as indicated by mobile phone ownership at 9 years, is also associated with online-to-offline encounters. A range of policy considerations are discussed, including the continued need for education in e-safety and cyber safety awareness from a young age through young adulthood, particularly for groups such as LGBT communities. By going through a history of electronic visuality, from fluorescence glows in European laboratories in the nineteenth century to the computer screen in the twentieth century, this paper discusses technical image operations in the interaction between media machines and media people. Examining this set of apparatus from the evolution of a neglected technical object – the vacuum tube, it traces the history of the screen and the temporal-spatial composition of electronic graphics in television, radar, and early computer systems. In doing so, it outlines the entangled history of analog and digital displays and demonstrates the impossibility of neglecting the role of the human observer in the technical invention of visuality. McLuhan’s works, in a certain sense, shaped the direction and style of studying media in a social context, “The Mechanical Bride: Folklore of Industrial Man” (1951), “The Gutenberg Galaxy: The Making of Typographic Man” (1962), “Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man” (1964). According to his position, electronic media technologies can be understood as a medium, a means of communication. They have evolved from the simplest sound signals to signs on various surfaces (from rock art to the modern alphabet) and an electronic signal. Conclusion. Despite the inconsistency of the figure of M. McLuhan among media theorists, the view on electronic media, according to which the author offers a kind of “Renaissance”, turning prism, is of epistemological value, which, among other things, is used in the concept of the global village. The value of this idea is due to the tendency towards convergence of users of modern communication technologies (for example, social networks) and the media transformation of the era.

Background: High body mass index (BMI) is associated with many health risks. Studies on the effect of excessive use of electronic media (EM) on high BMI are inconsistent. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between excessive use of EM and BMI among adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 382 students from middle and secondary schools in Kerbala City, Iraq. Data were collected from October 10, 2022, to December 20, 2023. Data collection was performed using a two-part self-report instrument. The first part contained items on participants’ characteristics (including BMI) and the second part was the Excessive Use of Electronic Media Questionnaire (EUEMQ). Data were analyzed using independent t-test, analysis of variance, and linear regression analysis. Results: The mean age of the students was 15.90 ± 1.36 years, and most of them were middle school students (62.6%). Approximately half of the students had a normal BMI, while 22.2% were overweight or obese. Mean BMI differed significantly between males and females (21.02±5015 vs. 23.14±4.33, P< 0.001). The majority of students (47.4%) spent 2-5 hours on the Internet each day. Approximately 56.8% and 18.1% of the students reported moderate and severe EM use, respectively. The mean hours spent on the Internet and mean EM use did not differ significantly among students in different BMI categories. However, linear regression analysis showed that male gender (P < 0.001), number of hours spent online (P = 0.026), and excessive use of EM (P < 0.001) significantly influenced BMI.Conclusion: Excessive use of EM was found to increase the likelihood of being overweight in adolescents. Because of the health risks associated with high BMI, education and health authorities, and nurses, need to educate adolescents, about the health risks of excessive use of EM.

In the contemporary digital milieu, children’s pervasive engagement with electronic media is ubiquitous in their daily lives, presenting complex implications for their socialization. Prosocial behavior, a cornerstone of social interaction and child development, is intricately intertwined with these digital experiences. This relation gains further depth, considering the significant roles of parent–child relationships and emotion regulation in shaping children’s social trajectories. This study surveyed 701 families to examine the association between children’s electronic media use and prosocial behavior, specifically exploring the mediating roles of parent–child closeness and emotion regulation. Structural equation modeling was employed for the analysis. Children’s electronic media use negatively correlated with prosocial behavior, parent–child closeness, and emotion regulation. The study’s analyses reveal that fostering children’s prosocial behavior in the digital era requires strong family ties, effective emotional management, and balanced digital exposure, which are pivotal for their comprehensive development.

The article is devoted to the study of methods and techniques of translating English-language neologisms of political media discourse into Russian. The authors point out the importance of three factors that are decisive in the analysis of neologisms – time, linguistic space and the novelty of the linguistic unit. The research material includes the texts of articles in English and Russian from the socio-political online publications The New Yorker, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, The Spectator, New York Post, Gazeta.ru, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Tsargrad, RBC news portals, Ria-news. A review of theoretical sources on the research problem has shown that neologisms reflect the most relevant trends inherent in a particular period of socio-political development. The authors note that neologisms are specific to a particular language space, since they are based on the conceptual values of representatives of a particular linguistic culture. Their important characteristic is novelty, because they express concepts that had no previous names, respectively, are not recorded in lexicographic sources. The article presents a comprehensive linguistic analysis of neologisms of political mass media discourse, including word-formation, etymological and translation, during which the authors identify the most productive word-formation models and effective ways of translating English-language neologisms into Russian. The authors conclude that the most common ways of forming neologisms are affixation and telescoping. Using the example of the analysis of the research material, the authors demonstrate that the basis of neologisms are proper names and common names, to which international prefixes or suffixes are added, which makes them recognizable. Among the methods of translation, the authors note transliteration with / without explication as the most effective.

Abstract Objective With the prevalence of electronic media use among Chinese adolescents and concerns regarding its potential negative consequences on their health and development, this study investigated the relationship between physical exercise and electronic media use. Utilizing data from the China Education Panel Survey, we examine the impact of physical activity on adolescents’ electronic media use. Methods A simultaneous equation model, including two-stage least square and three-stage least square, was employed to estimate the impact of physical activity on electronic media use among adolescents. Self-control theory and media addiction theory were also used to analyze electronic media use in adolescents. Descriptive statistics were used to analyzed the data. Results Chinese adolescents dedicated a substantial amount of time, averaging 2.95 hours per day, to electronic media activities. Increasing physical activity demonstrated an effective means to reduce electronic media use. Furthermore, the impact of physical activity on electronic media use exhibited urban-rural stratification, with family factors related to social class status primarily influencing electronic media use among urban students, while physical activity has a more pronounced influence among rural students. Conclusions Promoting physical activity represents a compelling and effective strategy for curbing excessive electronic media use among Chinese adolescents, particularly in rural areas where physical activity has a stronger influence. In addition, controlling media entertainment and recreation time and enhancing social cohesion can help to weaken media interest. While changing the social class status of families in urban areas may be difficult in the short term, parents should be aware that physical exercise is an effective way to reduce their children’s use of electronic media. Our findings suggested that promoting physical activity may be a promising strategy for reducing excessive electronic media use among Chinese adolescents, particularly in rural areas where physical activity has a stronger influence.

Career shocks ,Self-efficacy ,Career optimism ,Future consequence ,Immediate consequences ,Electronic media ,Economics as a science ,HB71-74 - Abstract
Purpose – This study examines the relationship of positive career shocks and career optimism. The mediating role of career decision-making self-efficacy (CDSE) between positive career shocks and career optimism and the moderating role of consideration of future consequences – immediate (CFC-I) between CDSE and career optimism are checked. Design/methodology/approach – Through cluster sampling, cross-sectional data from 192 professionals of electronic media industry were collected via an electronically administered questionnaire. For preliminary descriptive data analysis, SPSS version 21 was used. SmartPLS version 3.0 was used for testing the proposed hypotheses. Findings – The results showed that positive career shocks have a relationship with career optimism via CDSE. Also, CFC-I moderated the relationship of CDSE and career optimism such that the relationship of CDSE and career optimism was stronger at higher level of CFC-I. Practical implications – The study provides implications for the career consultants, human resource professionals and senior management of organizations. All these stakeholders can strive to build an inventory of positive career shocks. Also, shifting to a surprised business model of announcing compensations and promotions is another area to work on. The results of this study further suggest disengaging the fresh potential employees in the initial processes of recruitment. Interdepartmental coordination of health and safety department and human resource management department is also a very important implication for this study to highlight the positive aspects of being optimistic. Originality/value – The study is among the few empirical studies which investigates the relationship between positive career shocks and career optimism via CDSE. Also, in light of the latest call of various empirical works in the domain, this study adds a moderating variable, i.e. CFC-I in predicting career optimism. Furthermore, contrary to the conventional approach of applying students' data on career models, this study tests the proposed career model on data collected from professionals.

ABSTRACTThe internet provides opportunities for social interactions which first occur in an online environment that can lead to meeting up in real life. However, growing concerns around safety and privacy warrant greater study of this modern-day phenomenon. Using a longitudinal dataset of approximately 4,300 20-year-olds in Ireland, this study finds one-in-three report meeting someone from online. Multiple regression reveals that females are less likely to engage in such behaviour, while the trait of ‘openness’, spending more time on the internet, being non-heterosexual, using dating apps, and being sexually active at 17 years are positively associated.

The correlation between inattention and hyperactivity symptoms/behavior manifestations and screen time was evaluated among Brazilian children and adolescents (7-18 years old) who were socially isolated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 517 legal guardians completed questionnaires about electronic media use (MAF-P) and emotional/behavioral problems (CBCL/6-18). The results showed that texting was correlated to less inattention/hyperactivity symptoms; listening to music, the use of social media and electronics for school purposes were negatively correlated to attention problems and inattention/hyperactivity symptoms and playing videos games and online videos were associated to more attention problems and inattention/hyperactivity symptoms. The results contribute to the understanding of the relationship between inattention/hyperactivity symptoms and screen time in a sample of Brazilian children and adolescents during the pandemic. This article breaks down the creative and methodological process, carried out to produce the interactive documentary entitled Dicar: environmental achievements, the environment as a victim of violence in Colombia, whose purpose is to visualize in a clear and binding way the challenges faced by the country within the framework of the post-peace agreement, the continuity of the armed conflict, other violence that affects the territory, the persistent culture of conciendisrespect towards the natural resources and the ignorance about their importance for the subsistence of humanity, all of which stand in the way of achieving the full establishment of the processes of truth, Justice, Reparation and non-Repetition to create a Positive Peace, as a strategic axis in the Colombian social transformation, where the environment needs to be recognized as a protagonist. Thus, the Webdoc, as a result of deepening the development of an interactive experience, in which the user is the center of digital activities in search of generating emotional links with the content, addresses the dimension of the damage caused to the ecosystems of Colombia and its population, but also the projects carried out by the Directorate of Carabineros and Environmental Protection (DICAR) for its containment and repair. In today's digital world, children are exposed extensively to electronic media, making it an integral part of their daily lives. However, excessive use of electronic media during childhood has been associated with various internalizing problems. Moreover, parent–child conflict and children's age may be closely associated with children's problem behaviors. The current study employed a cross-sectional design and conducted a questionnaire survey of 711 parents to examine the association between children's electronic media use and their internalizing problems. Furthermore, this study probed the mediating role of parent–child conflict within this association and the moderating effect of children's age. The results of structural equation modeling showed a positive correlation between children's use of electronic media and their internalizing difficulties. Parent–child conflict served as a mediating factor in this association. Results also showed that the association between parent–child conflict and internalizing problems becomes more pronounced as children grow older. These findings imply that parents should encourage their children to develop healthy habits in using electronic media while fostering positive relationships. Parents should also be mindful of the psychological changes as children age and provide guidance to help them become proficient digital citizens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The tremendous development in communication and media technology has changed many patterns of people’s lives, and added new burdens, especially on rights and freedoms that could violate the privacy of individuals as well as governments, after electronic media became in the hands of large numbers of people, and it became an opportunity to diversify sources of knowledge and information. Especially considering what the world is currently going through from the spread of the Corona virus "Covid 19", which has become a mixture of information and news, and a violation of privacy. Hence, the problem of the study lies in how to confront electronic media crimes; To preserve society in a way that does not constitute an attack on freedom of expression and opinion in light of the Law regulating electronic media in the State of Kuwait. This study is based on the inductive approach, and the comparison between the general international standards, the restrictions imposed on freedom of opinion, expression, and the media, and between Kuwaiti and Arab legislations to confront cybercrime. The research also uses the applied method, and case studies; To determine the efficiency of the law in dealing with crimes that may be committed under exceptional circumstances. This scientific research also showed many results, including: that the Kuwaiti constitution protected freedom of opinion and expression and freedom of the media, and glorified it in embracing ideas, expressing them, and the right to obtain and circulate information, and that imposing restrictions on freedom of expression on the Internet would be acceptable only if they were They are consistent with established international standards, including that they are prescribed by law, and that they are necessary to protect an interest recognized under international law, as the researcher has demonstrated in this research. In this digital age, where parental attention is often diverted by digital engagement, the phenomenon of “parental phubbing,” defined as parents ignoring their children in favor of mobile devices, is scrutinized for its potential impact on child development. This study, utilizing questionnaire data from 612 parents and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with moderated mediation, examines the potential association between parental phubbing and young children’s electronic media use. The findings revealed a correlation between parental phubbing and increased electronic media use in children. Parent–child conflict, informed by instances of parental phubbing, was identified as a partial mediator in this relation. Notably, children’s emotion regulation emerged as a moderating factor, with adept regulation linked to reduced adverse effects of parental phubbing and improved relational harmony. These findings underscore the importance of parental awareness of their digital behaviors and the benefits of fostering robust parent–child relationships and supporting children’s emotional regulation to nurture well-adjusted “digital citizens” in the contemporary media landscape.

BackgroundScreen time has been identified as a risk factor for childhood obesity, but the media landscape has evolved rapidly. Children with autism tend to be heavy users of screens and have an elevated prevalence of obesity. We know little about screen use patterns among children with autism vs. typically developing (TD) peers and in association with obesity.MethodsBaseline data from 10,842 participants in the Adolescent Brain Cognition Development Study was used to characterize time spent with child-reported passive screen use (television/movies/watching videos), playing video games, and using social media. Duration of screen time by autism status and gender was summarized as mean time per day; obesity was defined using CDC/WHO criteria. A propensity score analysis was used to create a matched dataset for analysis.ResultsOverall, 1.7% of children were was identified as having autism. Significant mean differences were observed by autism status and gender for both passive viewing and playing video games. Compared to TD children, boys with autism spent more time (2.9 vs. 2.3 h, p
