Iran has always been an important place in the history of studying glaze on ceramic bodies. According to some scholars, the glazes on ceramic bodies from the Chogha Zanbil site (1250 BCE) can be considered as the first glazes on ceramics in the ancient world. However, the present research has shown that the beginning of making glaze on ceramic bodies in Iran should be known a little earlier. Indeed, we have proposed that the process of making glazes on ceramic bodies in Iran should be considered from the Haft Tepe site (1500 BCE). In addition, to investigate ancient glazes, what can be helpful as the most important research prerequisite are ancient texts that concern the methods of making glazes. In this regard, it should be said that there is no pre-Islamic text about making glazes. However, the Islamic texts in Iran have dealt with the production of glaze in the pre-modern era in details and we have compiled and studied these different sources dealing with elaboration of traditional glazes. An important topic provided by the investigation of manuscripts and ancient texts concerns the terminology of colors during the Elamite period. Indeed, without a doubt, the color will be one of the main factors in the study of Elamite glazes. In our research we have seen that Elamites do not have special words to express different colors and the colors used on glazes. Alternatively, they use known color materials to express colors.During this dissertation, analyses such as XRD, EPMA, and petrography were performed on glazed ceramic bodies, which led to the identification of the firing temperature of the samples. We have classified the samples based on their ceramic compositions. In this way, it was determined that the variety of ceramic bodies in the Neo-Elamite period is more important than during the Middle-Elamite period. It is also possible to consider the possibility of the variety of firing conditions in the Neo-Elamite period. Finally, various analyses, such as LA-ICP-MS, Raman, UV-Visible, and SEM-EDS, were performed on Elamite glazes. By performing these analyses, the coloring agents in the glazes were determined, and the opacifiers were also identified. In addition, we did not observed nanoparticles in the glazes of Middle-Elam, while nanoparticles can be identified in the glazes of the Iron Age from Qalaichi site and the neo-Elamite glazes from Jubaji site. These nanoparticles can be related to the firing atmosphere of the glazes.; L’Iran a toujours été un lieu important pour l’histoire de l’étude des glaçures sur les corps en céramique. Selon certains chercheurs, les glaçures sur céramiques du site de Chogha Zanbil (1250 avant notre ère) peuvent être considérées comme les premières glaçures sur céramique dans le monde antique. Cependant, la présente recherche a montré que le début de la fabrication de glaçure sur les corps en céramique en Iran devrait être connu un peu plus tôt. En effet, nous avons proposé que le processus de fabrication de glaçures sur les corps en céramique en Iran soit envisagé à partir du site de Haft Tepe (1500 avant notre ère). En outre, pour étudier les glaçures anciennes, ce qui peut être utile comme le plus important préalable en recherche sont les textes anciens qui concernent les méthodes de fabrication des glaçures. A cet égard, il faut dire qu’il n’y a pas de texte pré-islamique sur la fabrication de glaçures. Cependant, les textes islamiques en Iran ont traité de la production de glaçure dans l’ère pré-moderne en détails et nous avons compilé et étudié ces différentes sources traitant de l’élaboration de glaçures traditionnelles. Un sujet important fourni par l’enquête des manuscrits et des textes anciens concerne la terminologie des couleurs pendant la période élamite. En effet, sans aucun doute, la couleur sera l’un des principaux facteurs dans l’étude des glaçures Elamite. Dans notre recherche, nous avons vu que les élamites n’ont pas de mots spéciaux pour exprimer les différentes couleurs et les couleurs utilisées sur les glaçures. Alternativement, ils utilisent des matériaux de couleur connus pour exprimer les couleurs. Au cours de cette thèse, des analyses telles que XRD, EPMA, et la pétrographie ont été effectuées sur des corps en céramique glaçurée, ce qui a conduit à l’identification de la température de cuisson des échantillons. Nous avons classé les échantillons en fonction de la composition de la céramique. De cette façon, il a été déterminé que la variété des corps en céramique dans la période néo-Elamite est plus importante que pendant la période moyen-Elamite. Il est également possible d’envisager la possibilité de la variété des conditions de fusion dans la période néo-Elamite. Enfin, des analyses variés (LA-ICP-MS, Raman, UV-Visible et SEM-EDS) ont été réalisées sur les glaçures Elamite. Ces analyses ont permis de déterminer les agents colorants dans les glaçures et d’identifier les opacifiants. En outre, nous n’avons pas observé de nanoparticules dans les glaçures Moyen-Elamite, tandis que des nanoparticules peuvent être identifiées dans les glaçures de l’âge du fer du site de Qalaichi et les glaçures Neo-Elamite du site de Jubaji. Ces nanoparticules peuvent être liées à l’atmosphère de cuisson des glaçures.

Linear Elamite writing was used in southern Iran in the late 3rd/early 2nd millennium BCE (ca. 2300–1880 BCE). First discovered during the French excavations at Susa from 1903 onwards, it has so far resisted decipherment. The publication of eight inscribed silver beakers in 2018 provided the materials and the starting point for a new attempt; its results are presented in this paper. A full description and analysis of Linear Elamite of writing, employed for recording the Elamite language, is given here for the first time, together with a discussion of Elamite phonology and the biscriptualism that characterizes this language in its earliest documented phase.

The Neo-Elamite period (ca. 1000-520 BCE), spanning the centuries from the end of the Middle Elamite Shutrukid dynasty to the rise of the Persian Empire, long remained one of the most poorly known intervals in Elam’s history. It was only in the early 1980s with the delineation of a Neo-Elamite ceramic sequence at Susa by French archaeologist Pierre de Miroschedji that archaeological material of this period could be more reliably identified and studied. In subsequent decades, scholars have gradually proceeded to unveil a rich picture of first millennium Elam and its material culture. One element of this picture that has remained conspicuously absent, however, is the reconstruction of mortuary practices. The irony of this situation becomes palpable when one realises that a large proportion of Elamite archaeological material admired today through sterile glass museum cases had once been buried with the Elamite dead; deliberately selected, with all its embodied meaning, for the funerary ritual. This thesis presents the first in-depth study of mortuary practices for any period of Elamite history, exploiting as fully as possible the preliminary reports and recently published archives of Roland de Mecquenem who recovered many thousands of burials during his tenure as head of excavations at Susa from 1912 to 1939. While scholars have tended to disregard these early discoveries due to the poor recovery and recording methods employed, generally conceiving only the art historical significance of the objects, I hope that my own work amply demonstrates that it is still possible, and indeed necessary, to exploit these resources in order to reconstruct Elamite mortuary ritual and belief. The data from Susa, studied in conjunction with the small sample of published burials from other Neo-Elamite sites and fleshed out by additional evidence from texts and other aspects of the material record, starts to bring this intriguing facet of Elamite society back to life.

Like other bronze objects from Elam the bronze plaque found in the so-called Treasury at Persepolis is a unique discovery. Persepolis bronze plaque (PBP) is inscribed on both sides with a long Elamite text. PBP lay on the floor with the obverse face up, so the reverse, protected by the floor, suffered less damage. The main connection between PBP and the Persepolis Fortification tablets is provided by PF 352 . Huban-ahpi is well attested in the tablets from the Acropole of Susa. A general connection between PBP and the Acropole tablets is provided by the palaeography. An apparently anomalous occurrence of GAM can be dated without doubt to the Achaemenid period, in the Elamite text of the short inscription CMc in Palace P at Pasargadae. The use of GAM is not limited to Neo-Elamite documents and one should emphasize that it cannot be used as a distinctive feature for dating purposes. Face à ce tour construit sur un participe passé passif avec un agent au génitif-datif, et qui a évolué, dans certaines langues iraniennes, en un prétérit actif de construction ergative, plusieurs auteurs ont exprimé des vues divergentes quant à la voix que cette forme était censée rendre. Le présent article commence par rappeler les limitations de nos connaissances sur la langue des souverains achéménides et inventorie les différents types d'occurrences dudit tour périphrastique. Il passe ensuite en revue une dizaine d'approches susceptibles de livrer des arguments en faveur du caractère actif ou passif du tour, tous arguments utilisés à divers degrés et dans divers buts par des auteurs reconnus. Cette étude montre que la plupart des arguments ne sont pas convaincants en soi, mais le vaste tour d'horizon effectué en les analysant permet de dégager plusieurs certitudes et directions de recherches futures.
