Abstract Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major public health concern. Animal models play a crucial role in understanding the disease pathology and development of effective treatment strategies. Chemically induced CRC represents a cornerstone in animal model development; however, due to the presence of different animal species with different genetic backgrounds, it becomes mandatory to study the susceptibility of different mice species to CRC induction by different chemical entities such as 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH). This study aimed to investigate the induction receptivity of two commonly used mice species, C57BL/6 and BALB/c, to DMH-induced CRC. Methods Both mice species were exposed to weekly intraperitoneal injections of DMH at a dose of 20 mg/kg body weight for 15 consecutive weeks. The response to DMH was evaluated by monitoring body weight gain, daily food intake, and gastrointestinal symptoms. At the end of exposure, histopathology of distal colon dissected from both species was analyzed. Results Results revealed that C57BL/6 had a higher response to DMH compared to BALB/c. A significant decrease in body weight gain concomitant with severe diarrhea was observed in C57BL/6 receiving DMH compared to their controls, without any difference in food intake. Histopathology of distal colon revealed aberrant crypt foci and loss of goblet cells in DMH-exposed C57BL/6 mice. On the other hand, BALB/c mice displayed a normal and intact colon, with a normal weight gain pattern, and without any gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusion In conclusion, C57BL/6 has a higher susceptibility toward chemical induction to CRC; therefore, it can be used to study CRC pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment.

Introduction Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is performed widely, and several studies have demonstrated its validity as it provides clinical information not available by routine clinical inspection alone.

This study presented the electrochemical deposition of potassium nitrate-doped polypyrrole (Ppy:KNO3) on stainless steel (SS), graphite sheet (GRs), and carbon fiber (CF) substrates, Ppy:KNO3/SS, Ppy:KNO3/GRs, and Ppy:KNO3/CF supercapacitor electrodes. Structural, morphological, and molecular analyses were conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). SEM images exhibited distinct morphologies of Ppy:KNO3 films, varying with cycles, scan rates, and Ppy:KNO3 concentrations. Ppy:KNO3/CF film displayed a unique structure with minimal particle aggregation. Electrochemical performance was assessed through Cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD) measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Notably, Ppy:KNO3/CF demonstrated a specific capacitance of 1020 F/g at 1 A/g. It exhibited 92 % capacitance retention after 1000 cycles, along with impressive power and energy densities of 310 W/kg and 71.2 Wh/kg, respectively. These results represented a significant progress in the development of high-performance, durable supercapacitors.

Advanced green technology developments have induced key innovation approaches in the manufacturing industry to boost sustainable development (SD) in the present market. Despite the industrial need for green innovation and its associated benefits to regulate and optimise their operations and environmental performance, respectively, green innovation implementation and adoption remain inadequate. Due to the key significance of green innovation for firms operating in emerging markets, this research endeavors to investigate the green innovation influence on the relationship between Environmental Management System adoption and impact on Environmental Performance. To bridge this gap, The current work aimed structuring and validating a study model via the integration of Resource-Based View (RBV) and Institutional theories with the Technology-Organisation-Environment (TOE) framework to persuade companies towards green innovation implementation. Survey questionnaires were disseminated to 183 employees in a manufacturing company to collect the study data, which were then assessed with partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) and Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). Resultantly, the model's integrated constructs of perceived benefits, top management support, coercive pressure, normative pressure, and mimetic pressure predicted green management accounting practices. Green management accounting practices directly and significantly impacted green environmental performance, while green innovation significantly and negatively moderated the ‘green management accounting practice-green environmental performance’ link. Thus, the integrated model provides decision-makers with clear implications of green practice and innovative technology adoption for optimal environmental performance. The outcomes derived from literature reviews on advanced green technologies implied a notable ‘green management accounting practice-environmental performance’ relationship within emerging countries.

The tourism business has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to numerous challenges for tourism employees, particularly those in frontline positions who directly interact with customers (e.g. hotel employees). The pandemic has caused psychological and social risks, including fear of infection, job loss, and financial insecurity, which have affected employees’ intention to leave the job. This study aims to explore the psychological and social risk perceptions of front-line hotel employees post-COVID-19 and their impact on turnover intention (TI). Moreover, the study investigates the mediating role of job insecurity (JI) in the link between risk perception and TI. A quantitative research method, employing a survey questionnaire to collect the required data from hotel employees was conducted among 330 tourism employees. Data was evaluated using “partial least square structural equation modeling” (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that tourism employees who perceive high levels of psychological and social risk have a higher intention to quit their jobs. Moreover, the perceived risk of job insecurity mediates the link between psychological and social risk perception and TI. The study provides insights for tourism organizations to identify and mitigate the risks that affect employees’ perceptions and retention. This study adds to the existing body of literature regarding the psychological and social effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on employees in the tourism sector. The study highlights the potential long-term implications for the financial stability of the tourism industry, considering the significant financial consequences associated with turnover intention and job insecurity amid the pandemic.

AbstractThe contemporary business landscape is witnessing a paradigm shift towards environmental sustainability, prompting organizations to adopt green practices. Among these, Green Employee Empowerment (GEE) and Green Training (GT) have emerged as pivotal strategies. This study aims to explore the interplay between GEE, GT, Job Satisfaction, Pro-environmental Behavior (PEB), and Environmental Performance (EP) within hotel organizations. Using a cross-sectional design, a questionnaire survey was administered to 400 full-time employees. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square- Structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) v4 techniques. The study’s findings highlight the substantial impact of GEE and GT on both PEB and Job Satisfaction among employees in hotel organizations. Interestingly, the results reveal that GEE significantly influences Environmental Performance (EP), underscoring its role in driving positive outcomes in terms of sustainability practices within hotels. However, the surprising finding is that GT, despite its emphasis on environmental training, has an insignificant impact on EP. This unexpected result warrants further exploration and underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of the effectiveness of different green initiatives in influencing the overall environmental performance. As hotels worldwide grapple with the imperative to adopt sustainable business practices, this study provides valuable insights and a roadmap for hotel organizations seeking to navigate the complex landscape of environmental responsibility and social accountability. The findings provide practical guidance for luxury hotels striving to strike a balance between economic success and environmental stewardship, fostering a holistic approach to sustainability in the hotel industry.

The intensive adoption of ChatGPT by university students for learning has encouraged many scholars to test the variables that impact on their use of such AI in their learning. This study adds to the growing body of studies, especially in relation to the moderating role of students’ gender and their study discipline in their acceptance and usage of ChatGPT in their learning process. This study expanded the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) by integrating gender as well as study disciplines as moderators. The study collected responses from students in Saudi universities with different study disciplines and of different genders. The results of a structural model using Smart PLS showed a significant moderating effect of gender on the relationship between performance expectancy and ChatGPT usage. The results confirmed that the impact of performance expectancy in fostering ChatGPT usage was stronger in male than in female students. Moreover, social influence was shown to significantly affect males more than females in relation to ChatGPT usage. In addition, the findings showed that study discipline significantly moderates the link between social influence and ChatGPT usage. In the same vein, social influence significantly influences ChatGPT use in social sciences more than in applied sciences. Hence, the various implications of the study were discussed.

Background This study delves into the intricate interplay among paradoxical leadership (PL), employees’ proactive work behaviour (PAB), and perceived psychological contract fulfilment (PPCF). PL, characterized by its simultaneous emphasis on apparently contradictory behaviours, has garnered attention due to its potential to foster innovation, adaptability, and creativity. The study’s main objective is to thoroughly explore the complexities of PL, its influence on PAB, and whether the PPCF serves as a mediator. Methods A survey was distributed to 338 hotel and travel agency employees to gather data. The data was analysed using structural equation modelling through a SmartPLS program. Results The results reveal a positive correlation between PL and PAB. Additionally, PPCF partially mediates this relationship, indicating its vital role in exploring the positive impact of PL on boosting proactive behaviours. Conclusions This research brings forth meaningful contributions to both theoretical and practical dimensions. Theoretically, it enhances our comprehension of how PL manifests in the distinctive landscape of the hospitality and tourism domain, substantiating its potential to drive proactive behaviours among employees. The mediation of PPCF enriches our grasp of the underlying mechanisms, accentuating the significance of maintaining harmonized and consistent leadership practices. From a practical vantage point, these findings offer valuable insights for hospitality and tourism establishments aspiring to optimize their leadership strategies for cultivating proactive work behaviour among their workforces.

This study explores the interrelationship between community attachment in AlUla Heritage City (located in Saudi Arabia) and tourists’ green consumption practices, testing support for green tourism development as a mediator. The old historical city of AlUla, a significant city experiencing ongoing preservation and tourism development, represents an adequate context for exploring the link between community attachment and green tourism practices. This study employs a quantitative approach, including surveys with 328 local residents of AlUla. A structural equation modeling partial least square (PLS-SEM) analysis is conducted to explore the indirect influence of community attachment on tourists’ green consumption through the mediating role of support for green tourism development. The findings indicated a positive path from community attachment in AlUla to tourists’ tendencies toward green consumption behavior. Moreover, the mediating effects of support for green tourism development suggested that a deep sense of community attachment improves tourists’ support for green practices in the tourism sector. This study adds to the extended body of the literature on place attachment and green tourism by emphasizing the significance of community place attachment in stimulating tourists’ green consumption practices. Several practical implications for policymakers seeking to promote green tourism practices in heritage cities like AlUla are explored from the study results.

This study examines students’ acceptance and use of ChatGPT in Saudi Arabian (SA) higher education, where there is growing interest in the use of this tool since its inauguration in 2022. Quantitative research data, through a self-reporting survey drawing on the “Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology” (UTAUT2), were collected from 520 students in one of the public universities in SA at the start of the first semester of the study year 2023–2024. The findings of structural equation modeling partially supported the UTAUT and previous research in relation to the significant direct effect of performance expectancy (PE), social influence (SI), and effort expectancy (EE) on behavioral intention (BI) on the use of ChatGPT and the significant direct effect of PE, SI, and BI on actual use of ChatGPT. Nonetheless, the results did not support earlier research in relation to the direct relationship between facilitating conditions (FCs) and both BI and actual use of ChatGPT, which was found to be negative in the first relationship and insignificant in the second one. These findings were because of the absence of resources, support, and aid from external sources in relation to the use of ChatGPT. The results showed partial mediation of BI in the link between PE, SI, and FC and actual use of ChatGPT in education and a full mediation in the link of BI between EE and actual use of ChatGPT in education. The findings provide numerous implications for scholars and higher education institutions in SA, which are also of interest to other institutions in similar contexts.

Technological advancement alongside global epidemics stimulated the widescale implementation of e-learning. However, it is reported that e-learning is in the experimental phase and still requires fundamental improvements, particularly in disciplines that go beyond theoretical knowledge. The current study examines the nexus between e-learning readiness, psychological motivation, technological skills, and employability skills among hospitality management undergraduates. It also explores the moderating effects of student engagement on the linkages among these variables. To that end, this study adopted a quantitative approach and used a self-administered questionnaire survey to collect primary data. The sample included a total of 428 participants who were recruited from undergraduates of hospitality management programs in Egyptian universities using the convenience sampling technique. Data analysis included performing PLS-SEM using Smart PLS 3.0 software. The results confirm the positive effects of psychological motivation and technological skills on both e-learning readiness and the employability skills of hospitality management undergraduates. The study also underscores the mediated role of e-learning readiness in the linkages between study predictors and outcomes. Additionally, the findings highlight the moderating effect of student engagement in supporting e-learning readiness and eventually employability skills. This study adds to the hospitality management body of knowledge and provides valuable insights for education institutions and policymakers to optimize e-learning experiences.

The current study aims to investigate ways through which the data on social customer relationship management (SCRM) enhance customer satisfaction (CS) as well as market effectiveness (ME) in the hotel industry. Moreover, it examines the mediator role of customer involvement using social media data (CIUSM). The moderating role of customer information processing capability (CIPC) between social customer relationship management (SCRM) and customer involvement using social media (CIUSM) was examined. Therefore, following the suggestions from Dominant (S-D) Logic, Social Exchange Theory (SET), and Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), this research explores the role of SCRM in co-creation and organizational performance through the social media data of customers. Using PLS-SEM through SmartPLS, data from 389 participants were analyzed. The findings proved that SCRM directly improves both customer satisfaction and the effectiveness of the market due to the indirect effect of CIUSM data as a mediator among them. Also, it showed that SCRM improves directly CIUSM. Moreover, it proved the direct effect of CIUSM on customer satisfaction and market effectiveness. Moreover, CIPC, as a moderator, enhances SCRM impacts by demonstrating how hotels leverage data from social media activity as a competitive advantage. Based on the findings of this study, the three integrated theories provide a single framework to delve deeply into the intricate association between social media customer involvement to enhance hotel performance. Also, it ensures that hospitality managers engage customers, continuously respond to their needs and requirements, and embrace efficient data processing to deploy SCRM effectively.

The hospitality industry, well-known for its energetic and people-intensive nature, frequently depends on effective leadership to motivate teamwork and safeguard sustainable operational success. Nevertheless, leadership approaches may significantly influence workplace dynamics and leader narcissism appears to be a probable disruptor. This study explores the dual-edged influence of leader narcissism in the hospitality industry, specifically in determining employee unheard voice behavior and bullying in the workplace. While leader narcissism can amplify unheard voices by nurturing an environment where staff feel forced to speak up, it can also fuel workplace conflict by generating toxic interactions and advancing bullying in the workplace. This research utilized a self-administrated questionnaire, collecting data from employees in five-star hotels and category (A) tourism companies in Cairo, Egypt, from May to August 2024 through a convenience sampling technique. Of the 425 distributed questionnaires, 394 valid responses were received, and Smart PLS-3.0 was employed for hypothesis testing. The study’s findings indicate that employee voice behavior positively influences workplace bullying. There exists a favorable correlation between employee voice behavior and leader narcissism. Moreover, leader narcissism is proven to have a positive relationship with workplace bullying. Leader narcissism was recognized as a mediating variable in the connection between employee voice behavior and workplace bullying. While previous research has investigated how these factors influence work-related outcomes in broader organizational settings, this study focuses on their implications in tourism and hospitality. Additionally, the study delves into how leader narcissism mediates the connection between employee voice behavior and workplace bullying in the tourism industry. By highlighting and exploring the complexities of leader narcissism and its influence on workplace interrelationships, this research paper may offer valuable insights for top managers, policymakers, and academics seeking to generate healthier and more productive workplace environments in the tourism industry.

The rise in liver disease incidence and prevalence has led to increasing morbidity and mortality worldwide. Persistent hepatic inflammation drives disease progression by increasing fibrosis, advancing to cirrhosis, and potentially developing into hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Addressing these complications is essential to reduce liver-related mortality. Recent studies suggest that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, particularly aspirin, may play a beneficial role in managing liver disease. Aspirin’s anti-inflammatory and chemoprotective effects contribute to slowing disease progression and reducing the risks associated with chronic liver disease (CLD). This review highlights the current literature on the effects of aspirin in CLD, with a focus on patients with metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and hepatitis B and C. We will examine aspirin’s potential ability to mitigate fibrosis, reduce the incidence of HCC, and lower liver-related mortality. Additionally, we will discuss its potential side effects and safety considerations, particularly in the context of liver disease, where there is an increased risk of bleeding.
