Even though, works on the taxonomy of Odonata have acquired awareness worldwide, the African continent as well as Egypt is one of the least explored localities. Thus, there is an urgent need to conduct comprehensive taxonomic reviews of the order Odonata in Egypt. In the current work, the dragonflies of the two families Gomphidae and Macromiidae are reviewed. Field trips in 49 localities inside 11 Egyptian governorates did not result in collecting any specimens. Therefore, the study is based only on the materials that are preserved in the main Egyptian reference collections in addition to the previous literature. As a result, a total of two genera and four species for the two families were identified. Taxonomic keys with illustrations of Egyptian genera and species are provided. In addition, diagnosis, world distribution and material examined were given for each species. Also, type genera, type species and type locality are given. The status of the species was discussed. This work focused on studying the taxonomy of the two families, Dryopidae and Elmidae, with the aim of enhancing knowledge regarding their taxonomy in Egypt. Moreover, the study is primarily based on a comprehensive review of previous literature and the examination of specimens preserved in the main Egyptian Insect Reference Collections. Results showed that the Egyptian fauna of Dryopidae comprises two genera and five species, among which two species are considered doubtful. Additionally, a newly recorded species, Dryops similaris, is added to the Egyptian fauna. However, Elmidae constitutes two genera and two species. To assess keys to families, genera and species were constructed, providing data on species diagnosis, specimens examined, and distribution. The status of the doubtful species was also discussed. The two species Ammocleonus aschabadensis (Faust, 1884) and Lixus (Compsolixus) castellanus Chevrolat, 1866 are recorded for the first time from the Egyptian fauna. The finding of these two species increased the number of the records of the two genera Ammocleonus and Lixus from one to two and from 21 to 22 respectively. The Egyptian fauna of the asilid genus Stichopogon Loew is revised. Nine species are recognized including two new records, Stichopogon deserti Theodor, 1980 and S. scaliger Loew, 1847. A key to species, lists of material examined and their distribution are included. The occurrence of S. maroccanus in Egypt is discussed and clarified.
