IN OUR QUEST to understand the intricate relationship between elements and plant nutrition, we delve Linto the intriguing question: "Can all elements in the periodic table be beneficial for plant nutrition?" This inquiry is pivotal in unlocking some of nutrients available to plants, potentially revolutionizing agricultural practices and fostering sustainable cultivation methods. Two plants have been chosen for this study: crisphead lettuce and red cabbage. These selected specimens represent a range of botanical species, enabling us to investigate how various plants respond to elemental supplementation with diverse perspectives. A field experiment was conducted during the 2023/2024 season at the Agricultural Faculty Farm, Mansoura University, Egypt. The tested elements from the periodic table included titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), chromium (Cr) and iodine (1). These elements were administered at two concentrations, 5.0 and 10 mgl via foliar application on the selected plants, alongside a control group with no elemental foliar application. The study identified multiple parameters to evaluate the response of the tested plants to the studied elements. These parameters encompassed various aspects of plant growth, physiology, and biochemical composition. They included fresh and dry weights (gplant), plant height (cm), No. of leaves, leaf area (cm² plant), head weight (g), head diameter (cm), chlorophyll (SPAD), carotene (mg 100 g¹), ascorbic acid (mg 100 g¹), total phenol (mg g¹) and catalase activity (mgH₂O₂/g). All elements studied exhibited significant positive effects on the growth traits and productivity of both crisp head lettuce and red cabbage. Titanium showed the most pronounced impact, followed by iodine, chromium, zirconium, and finally the control group. Additionally, the enhancement in performance and productivity of both tested plants increased with higher element concentration levels from 5.0 to 10 mg L¹. Based on the results obtained, it is recommended that agricultural practitioners consider foliar application of Ti, Zr, Cr and I to enhance the growth and productivity of crisphead lettuce and red cabbage. However, further research is warranted to optimize the application methods and determine the ideal concentration levels for different environmental conditions and plant varieties. Additionally, exploring the mechanisms underlying the observed enhancements could provide valuable insights for developing more efficient and sustainable agricultural practices. CLIMATE change is one of the most important global issues that impacts all our life sides. Growing crops and their productivity also are influenced by changing in the climate and climatic elements. Growing tea in non-traditional regions like Egypt could be considered a challenge due to the specific climatic and soil requirements for growing and production. However, with careful planning and experimentation, it might be possible to establish tea cultivation in such conditions. So, a lysimeter trial was conducted as an exploratory experiment aiming to assess tea cultivation performance in both sandy and clayey soil. Additionally, a separate field trial was carried out to evaluate tea growth in clayey soil along with applied organic fertilizer (chicken manure). The findings revealed that, under the lysimeter trial, tea plants exhibited robust growth on both sandy and clayey soil. Various parameters, including plant height, fresh and dry weights, leaf area, chlorophyll content, and leaf N, P, K levels, indicated superior performance on sandy soil compared to clayey soil. In the field trial, notable superiority was observed in plants grown on the organic medium containing chicken manure over those plants grown on clayey soil without such supplementation. These outcomes suggest that climate changes could potentially transform Egypt into a favorable region for tea cultivation. THERE IS UNPRECEDENTED interest in the biological and non-biological atmospheric nitrogen fixation via some elements e.g., titanium, nickel, vanadium, etc. to reduce the inputs of mineral N-fertilizers in the future, especially under salinity conditions. Also, synthetic nitrogen fertilization could increase the impurities in the sugar beet. So, A field trial (as an exploratory experiment) was executed in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) to highlight the role of the Ti element in non-biological atmospheric nitrogen fixation and regulating sugar beet plant tolerance to salinity conditions (soil EC value =6.25 dSm-1 & irrigation water EC value =4.86 dSm-1). Treatments were as follows; T1: Without Ti (0.0 mg L-1); T2: Adding Ti as foliar application (5.0 mg L-1); T3: Adding Ti as foliar application (10.0 mg L-1); T4: Adding Ti as foliar application (15.0 mg L-1); T5: Adding Ti as soil injection (5.0 mg L-1); T6: Adding Ti as soil injection (10.0 mg L-1); T7: Adding Ti as soil injection (15.0 mg L-1); T8: Combination of both methods (Soil + foliar) [5.0 mg L-1, (2.5+2.5 for each method)]; T9: Combination of both methods (Soil + foliar) [10.0 mg L-1, (5.0+5.0 for each method)]; and T10: Combination of both methods (Soil + foliar) (15.0 mg L-1, (7.5+7.5 for each method)]. At the harvest stage, top &roots yield and juice quality were evaluated. The findings illustrate that the difference due to the studied treatments was significant, where the sequence order of the evaluated Ti treatments from the most effective to the less was as follows;T8>T2>T3>T9>T5> T6>T1> T7>T4>T10. Through the statistical comparison among the studied treatments, it can be noticed that the combined addition method of Ti (foliar plus soil) was the most effective one then the foliar application method solely followed by the soil injection method alone. Also, the best Ti rate was 5.0 mg L-1 under all studied application methods, while plant yield parameters decreased thereafter as the Ti rate increased. Also, it can be noticed that the plant performance under the control treatment was better than that treated with 15.0 Ti mg L-1 under all studied application methods. Recently, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has been extended as a well-known area to investigate the subsurface objects. However, its output has a low resolution, and it needs more processing for more interpretation. This paper presents two algorithms for landmine detection from GPR images. The first algorithm depends on a multi-scale technique. A Gaussian kernel with a particular scale is convolved with the image, and after that, two gradients are estimated; horizontal and vertical gradients. Then, histogram and cumulative histogram are estimated for the overall gradient image. The bin values on the cumulative histogram are used for discrimination between images with and without landmines. Moreover, a neural classifier is used to classify images with cumulative histograms as feature vectors. The second algorithm is based on scale-space analysis with the number of speeded-up robust feature (SURF) points as the key parameter for classification. In addition, this paper presents a framework for size reduction of GPR images based on decimation for efficient storage. The further classification steps can be performed on images after interpolation. The sensitivity of classification accuracy to the interpolation process is studied in detail. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanotechnology has the potential to increase the efficiency and quality of agricultural production. So, this research work was carried out to assess the effect of some soil conditioners at different rates and foliar application of antioxidant on the performance of wheat plants grown on sandy soil. The treatments were T1: Control (without soil addition);T2: 0.50%Normal compost (bulky);T3: 0.25% Nano compost;T4: 0.50% Nano compost;T5: 0.50% Normal agricultural gypsum (bulky);T6: 0.25% Nano agricultural gypsum;T7: 0.50% Nano agricultural gypsum; T8: 0.50% Normal sugar lime mud (bulky);T9: 0.25% Nano sugar lime mud;T10: 0.50% Nano sugar lime mud; F1: without proline and F2: with proline. Wheat plants treated with compostpossessed the highest values of all growth criteria (e.g., fresh and dry weights, plant height and leaf area), photosynthetic pigments (after 70 days from sowing), yield, its component, and grains quality (at harvest stage) under sandy soil conditions followed by that treated with agricultural gypsum than the plants treated with sugar lime mud, while the untreated wheat plants with any soil conditioner (control treatment) possessed the lowest values of all aforementioned traits. Nano form was superior compared to the normal form with all studied soil amendments. Also, all aforementioned traits increased as the rate of Nano form increased with all studied soil amendments. Regarding the foliar application, the proline treatment was superior compared to the control treatment (without foliar application). The control treatment (without soil and foliar applications) led to raising the enzymatic antioxidants content in the straw of wheat plant after 70 days from sowing, where the cultivation without any both soil conditioners and proline caused an increase in wheat self-production from these antioxidants to scavenge the ROS (or as named free radicals) resulting due to the poverty of sandy soil, thus increase of tolerance. Generally, it can be concluded that all the studied soil conditioners (i.e., gypsum, compost, and sugar lime mud) in either normal form or Nano form have a beneficial effect on improving the performance and productivity of wheat plants grown under sandy soil conditions. Also, the findings of the current work confirmed proline is one of the plant's protective ways from the poverty of sandy soil fertility, where it works as an antioxidant and leads to an increase in wheat plant tolerance to the poverty of sandy soil fertility. Abstract: The interaction effect of two sulfonylurea herbicides, bensulfuron-methyl (B) and metsulfuron-methyl(M), were tested on microbial biomass C, N, N-mineralization and C/N ratio in a loamy sand soil. The herbicides were applied at various levels of: control (B0M0), 0.01 and 0.01 (B1M1), 0.01 and 0.1 (B1M2), and 0.01 and 1.0 (B1M3) micro g/g soil. Determinations of soil microbial biomass-C, N and N-mineralization contents were carried out at 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 25 and 45 days after herbicides application. The results showed that the soil microbial biomass-C (C[sub mic]) and microbial biomass-N (N[sub mic]) decreased consistently with the increasing rates of herbicides. The results further indicated that B1M1 and B1M2 caused a significant reduction in C[sub mic] and N[sub mic] within first 10 and 7 days of incubation, respectively, as compared with the control. These reductions in C[sub mic] and N[sub mic] were also significant (P = 0.05) with B1M3 application especially within first 15 days of incubation. A significant reduction in N-mineralization (N-min) was observed with high doses (B1M2, B1M3) of herbicides within first 5 days of incubation, while low rate (B1M1) failed to produce any significant effect. Abstract: A laboratory incubation experiment was conducted to elucidate the effect of chlorsulfuron herbicide on nitrogen mineralization and the ratio of microbial biomass nitrogen to nitrogen mineralization (N[sub mic]/N[sub min] ratio) in loamy sand soil. The herbicide was applied at four levels that were control, field rate 0.01 (FR), 10 times of field rate 0.1 (10FR), and 100 times of field rate 1.0 (100FR) Mu g/g soil. Determinations of N-mineralization and microbial biomass-N content were carried out 1, 3, 5, 7,10, 15, 25 and 45 days after herbicide application. In comparison to untreated soil, the N-mineralization decreased significantly in soil treated with herbicide at levels 10FR and 100FR within the first 5 days incubation. A more considerable reduction in the N[sub mic]/N[sub min] ratio was observed in the herbicide treated soil than the non-treated control. Among the different treatment of chlorsulfuron, 100FR displayed the greatest biocidal effect followed by 10FR and FR, showing their relative toxicity in the order of 100FR> 100FR > FR. The results indicated that the side effect of this herbicide on N-mineralization is probably of little ecological significance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
