Abstract

International audience; In this paper we investigated two solutions for distributing 802.15.3c signal over Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF) to solve the problem of limited coverage at 60 GHz. The first solution consists of the transmission of the signal at 60 GHz directly over fiber (RFoF) and the second solution consists of the transmission of the signal at intermediate frequency 5 GHz over fiber (IFoF). The millimeter wave is generated using the Optical Carrier Suppression (OSC) technique, and the optical link is based on MMF without optical amplifiers in order to obtain a low cost architecture. The systems are evaluated and analyzed by Bit Error Rate (BER) and Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) performance. The comparison between the two solutions is based on the fiber length, the complexity and cost of the implementation

Abstract

The manuscript deals with the assessment of Radio over Fiber (RoF) system including pure electrical baseband, pure radio frequency band centered around 60 GHz, and hybrid radiooptical system at the same RF band using a global simulation. In this work we focus on RoF solution to improve the low coverage of the 60 GHz channel caused by high free-space attenuation. A realistic co-simulation of the Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) IEEE802.15.3c-RoF was performed in a residential environment for Line-Of-Sight (LOS) and Non-Line- Of-Sight (NLOS). In this work, we demonstrated a 60 GHz radio on Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF) using Optical Carrier Suppression (OCS) modulation. The BER (Bit Error Ratio) performance of this system is measured by varying the following parameters: optical launched power, fiber length, modulation format, Channel coding and Signal to Noise Ratio. We show that the RoF at 60 GHz can reach a minimum of 300 m of MMF without optical amplifiers followed by a 5 m wireless transmission with BER less than 10-3 in the LOS and NLOS environments. Abstract

The work presented in this paper is concerned by a technique that we have developed to simulate and evaluate advanced optical communications systems such as Coherent Optical OFDM (Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing), named CO-OFDM. We have implemented this technique by using a combination of two source software's namely: Simulink of Matlab source software; OptiSystem software. Taking advantage of this solution, we particularly have assessed the performance of the system cited above increasing at a time thanks to the Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes the performance of the system Bit Error Rate (BER). The throughputs analysis of such a system estimated by simulations for different Forward Error Correction (FEC) is based on Turbo Codes (TC), Reed Solomon (RS) Codes and LDPC codes when transmitting a GB/s data through various lengths of Single Mode Fibers (SMF) and Multi Mode Fibers (MMF). The results carried out have shown clearly that the LDPC has earned the challenge by providing an excellent performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
