The round sardinella, Sardinella aurita, is the most important species in the North Sinai fisheries; it represents about 85 % of the total catch in the North Sinai fisheries, yet the fishing activities are still based on traditional methods, like gathering information from fellow fishermen. The fishing grounds constantly change due to environmental factors; therefore, determining the potential fishing zones (PFZs) must depend on effective and advanced techniques to monitor the optimal (PFZs) for Sardinella aurita along the North Sinai coastal zone. This study integrated the daily Sentinel-3 satellite's remotely sensed data, advanced digital imagery processing techniques, and fish yield data obtained from the General Authority for Fish Resources Development (GAFRD) for Sardinella aurita in the North Sinai fisheries during 2021 to build a suitable model for determining, monitoring, and predicting the other optimal (PFZs) for Sardinella aurita along the North Sinai coastal zone. The results confirmed that, regarding the total catch of Sardinella aurita in 2021, the highest catch reached 73, 68, and 47 tons in April, December, and November, respectively, while the lowest catch reached 6 tons in January. The predicted PFZs resulting from the model are estimated to be 7 times more than the fishing grounds where fishermen currently fish. Moreover, the results confirmed the strong linkage between Sardinella aurita abundance and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentration with sea surface temperature (SST). This study highlighted the importance of using remotely sensed data to help increase the national income from the fisheries sector by determining and predicting new fishing zones. Introduction: In recent years, the world's attention has been drawn to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) because to the frightening prospect of growing death rates. Nanomaterials are being investigated due to their potential in a wide range of technical and biological applications. Methods: The purpose of this study was to biosynthesis zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) using Aspergillus sp. SA17 fungal extract, followed by characterization of the produced nanoparticles (NP) using electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), UV-analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Results and discussion: The HR-TEM revealed spherical nanoparticles with an average size of 7.2 nm, and XRD validated the crystalline nature and crystal structure features of the generated ZnONPs, while the zeta potential was 18.16 mV, indicating that the particles' surfaces are positively charged. The FT-IR was also used to identify the biomolecules involved in the synthesis of ZnONPs. The antibacterial and anticancer properties of both the crude fungal extract and its nano-form against several microbial strains and cancer cell lines were also investigated. Inhibition zone diameters against pathogenic bacteria ranged from 3 to 13 mm, while IC50 values against cancer cell lines ranged from 17.65 to 84.55 M. Additionally, 33 compounds, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, coumarins, organic acids, anthraquinones, and lignans, were discovered through chemical profiling of the extract using UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. Some molecules, such pomiferin and glabrol, may be useful for antibacterial purposes, according to in silico study, while daidzein 4'-sulfate showed promise as an anti-cancer metabolite. The extensive use of synthetic antibiotics and insecticides in controlling microbes and insect spreads led to a build-up of resistance strains and caused negative impacts on human health through bioaccumulation in food and the environment. The present study assessed the antimicrobial activity of Amphora coffeaeformis (A. coffeaeformis) ethanolic extract against foodborne pathogenic microbes as well as assessed its ability to control Culex pipiens L. (C. pipiens) larvae. The gas chromatography-mass spectrum (GC/MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed that A. coffeaeformis extract was rich with phenolic compounds, organosulfur compounds, carboxylic acids, amino acids, organic quinoline, dipeptide and monosaccharide. The extract of A. coffeaeformis showed antibacterial capability against all tested bacteria, with minimal inhibition concentration (MIC) values ranging from 20.2 to 66.7 g/mL, as well as antifungal effects against all tested mycotoxigenic fungi, with MIC values ranging from 113.62, 68.95 and 49.37 µg/mL mg/mL. Furthermore, the extract showed high larvicidal activity against C. pipiens larvae at 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively. LC50 values decreased gradually with the treatment period. Likewise, the adult emergence and growth index were significantly negatively related to increasing extract concentrations. Moreover, the extract exhibited a noteworthy depletion in the reproductive potential and increased sterility index of C. pipiens females developed of treated larvae. Besides a reduction in egg hatching percent, increase pupal malformations, increase and adult abnormalities. C. pipiens biochemical markers; glutathione-S-transferase, carboxylesterase, acetylcholinesterase, a-esterase and cytochrome P-450 showed significant alteration after the extract exposure. Overall, these findings promise the application possibility of A. coffeaeformis extract as a biopreservator against foodborne pathogens and as bioinsecticides for mosquito control as well. Acute Lung Injury (ALI) is a life-threatening syndrome that has been identified as a potential complication of COVID-19. There is a critical need to shed light on the underlying mechanistic pathways and explore novel therapeutic strategies. This study aimed to examine the potential therapeutic effects of Citrus clementine essential oil (CCEO) in treating potassium dichromate (PDC)-induced ALI. The chemical profile of CCEO was created through GC–MS analysis. An in vivo study in rats was conducted to evaluate the effect of CCEO administrated via two different delivery systems (oral/inhalation) in mitigating acute lung injury (ALI) induced by intranasal instillation of PDC. Eight volatile compounds were identified, with monoterpene hydrocarbons accounting for 97.03% of the identified constituents, including 88.84% of D-limonene. CCEO at doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg bw exhibited antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These significant antioxidant properties were revealed through the reduction of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the restoration of reduced glutathione (GSH). In addition, inflammation reduction was observed by decreasing levels of cytokines tumor necrosis factor-α and tumor growth factor-β (TNF-α and TGF-β), along with an increase in phosphatidylinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) and Akt overexpression in lung tissue homogenate, in both oral and inhalation routes, compared to the PDC-induced group. These results were supported by histopathological studies and immunohistochemical assessment of TGF-β levels in lung tissues. Sixty Barki semen ejaculates were collected using the artificial vagina. Semen samples were evaluated, pooled then subjected for processing using different concentrations of nano zinc (10, 50, 100 and 150 µg/ml). Shortterm chilled storage duration, absolute survivability index, post-thaw recovery, reduction rate, live percent, membrane integrity, acrosomal reaction, DNA integrity, head & tail's diameter, and DNA % were assessed. 150 µg/ml of nano zinc can stabilize high motility % (80±0.54%) for about 11 days post dilution and chilling, then drastically dropped on day 18 (47±0.57%). Moreover, 150 µg/ml recorded the best of absolute survivability index (33096±374), motility after dilution (86.67±1.05%), after cooling (87.50±1.11%), after freezing-thawing process (56.67±1.66%). Furthermore, 150 µg/ml treated group keeping the highest records along the first thee hours post-thawing (54.17±1.53, 50.00±1.29, and 47.50±1.11%, respectively). Additionally, 150 µg/ml treated samples presented the highest viability index (180±3.47%), post-thaw recovery rate (65.47±2.26%), post-thawing live % (54.17±2.58%). While 150 µg/ml treated group showed the lowest reduction % (15.81±3.12%), acrosomal reaction (9.83±0.7%). Moreover, 150 µg/ml treated samples recorded the largest head diameter and highest DNA % (52.87±1.74 and 97.51±0.30%, respectively), but showed the lowest tail diameter and tail DNA % (6.22±0.33 and 2.48±0.30, respectively). Furthermore, 150 µg/ml treated group displayed the lowest comet %, tail moment and olive tail moment (8.950±0.02, 0.15±0.02 and 0.40±0.10, respectively) if compared with the other nano zinc treated groups. The current study aimed to modify rams' semen redox hemostasis by different concentrations of Nano zinc. Using artificial vagina (15) semen ejaculates were collected, evaluated, and pooled then subjected to processing using different concentrations of nano zinc (10, 50, 100, and 150µg/ml). The concentration of alanine and aspartate transaminases enzyme (ALT-AST), alkaline phosphatase Enzyme (ALP), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of chilled and freeze-thawed Barki ram semen were assessed. Nano zinc significantly enhances semen quality in a dose-dependent manner. Where, 150µg/ml of nano zinc potentially reduced the extracellular concentrations of ALT (14.00±1.01 and 28.58±0.58 U/L), AST (39.67±1.54 and 54.83±2.33 U/L), ALP (174.90±1.90and 316.80±1.90 U/L), and MDA (5.45±0.02and 6.21±0.01 nmol/ml) after both chilling and freeze-thawing process. Moreover, 150µg/ml treating dose induced an efficient production of SOD (7417±16.67 and 8600±76.38U/ml) after both chilling and freeze-thawing process, respectively. SOD is considered the most important antioxidant enzyme in the sperm cell that scavenges generated free radicles like H2O2. In this respect, 150µg/ml treating dose reported the lowest H2O2 level (0.042±0.002 and0.065±0.005 mM/L), and highest TAC concentration (1.62±0.006 and 1.69±0.005 mM/L) after both chilling and freeze-thawing process, respectively. In conclusion, ZnO-NPs in semen extender can modify the sperm redox hemostasis in a dose-dependent manner. It reduces the extracellular transaminases and phosphatases leakage, augmenting SOD activity, and modifies TAC potential. Plant secondary metabolites are key components for new, safe and effective drugs. Ethanolic extract of Maesa indica Roxb. Sweet (ME) aerial parts were used for biosynthesis of sustainable green zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) with an average particle size 6.80 ± 1.47 nm and zeta potential −19.7 mV. Both transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction assay confirmed the hexagonal shape of ZnO NPs. Phenolic ingredients in ME were identified using LC-ESI-MS/MS-MRM revealing the identification of chlorogenic acid, gallic acid, caffeic acid, rutin, coumaric acid, vanillin, naringenin, quercetin, ellagic acid, 3.4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, methyl gallate, kaempferol, ferulic acid, syringic acid, and luteolin. The major compound was chlorogenic acid at concentration of 1803.84 μg/g. The antiviral activity of ME, ZnO NPs, and combination of ME with ZnO NPs against coronavirus 229E were investigated. ZnO NPs had superior antiviral effect against coronavirus 229E than ME while their combination showed the highest anti-coronavirus 229E effect, with 50% inhibition concentration (IC50) of 5.23 ± 0.18 µg/mL and 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) of 138.49 ± 0.26 µg/mL while the selectivity index (SI) was 26.47. The current study highlighted the possible novel anti-coronavirus 229E activity of green ZnO NPs synthesized from Maesa indica. SARS-CoV-2 has caused more than 596 million infections and 6 million fatalities globally. Looking for urgent medication for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation is obligatory. Plant extracts and green synthesized nanoparticles have numerous biological activities, including antiviral activity. HPLC analysis of C. dirnum L. leaf extract showed that catechin, ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid, and syringic acid were the most major compounds, with concentrations of 1425.16, 1004.68, 207.46, and 158.95 µg/g, respectively. Zinc nanoparticles were biosynthesized using zinc acetate and C. dirnum extract. TEM analysis revealed that the particle size of ZnO-NPs varied between 3.406 and 4.857 nm. An XRD study showed the existence of hexagonal crystals of ZnO-NPs with an average size of 12.11 nm. Both ZnO-NPs (IC50 = 7.01 and CC50 = 145.77) and C. dirnum L. extract (IC50 = 61.15 and CC50 = 145.87 µg/mL) showed antiviral activity against HCOV-229E, but their combination (IC50 = 2.41 and CC50 = 179.23) showed higher activity than both. Molecular docking was used to investigate the affinity of some metabolites against the HCOV-229E main protease. Chlorogenic acid, solanidine, and catchin showed high affinity (−7.13, −6.95, and −6.52), compared to the ligand MDP (−5.66 Kcal/mol). Almost one-third of all infectious diseases are caused by viruses, and these diseases account for nearly 20% of all deaths globally. It is becoming increasingly clear that highly contagious viral infections pose a significant threat to global health and economy around the world. The need for innovative, affordable, and safe antiviral therapies is a must. Zinc oxide nanoparticles are novel materials of low toxicity and low cost and are known for their antiviral activity. The genus Pelargonium was previously reported for its antiviral and antimicrobial activity. In this work, Pelargonium zonale leaf extract chemical profile was studied via high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and was used for the biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles. Furthermore, the antiviral activity of the combination of P. zonale extract and the biosynthesized nanoparticles of ZnO against the human corona 229E virus was investigated. Results revealed that ZnONPs had been biosynthesized with an average particle size of about 5.5 nm and characterized with UV, FTIR, TEM, XRD, and SEM. The antiviral activity showed significant activity and differences among the tested samples in favor of the combination of P. zonale extract and ZnONPs (ZnONPs/Ex). The lowest IC50, 2.028 µg/mL, and the highest SI, 68.4 of ZnONPs/Ex, assert the highest antiviral activity of the combination against human coronavirus (229E). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Globally, pathogenic microbes have reached a worrisome level of antibiotic resistance. Our work aims to identify and isolate the active components from the bioactive Ficus retusa bark extract and assess the potential synergistic activity of the most major compounds' constituents with the antibiotic tetracycline against certain pathogenic bacterial strains. The phytochemical screening of an acetone extract of F. retusa bark using column chromatography led to the identification of 10 phenolic components. The synergistic interaction of catechin and chlorogenic acid as the most major compounds with tetracycline was evaluated by checkerboard assay followed by time-kill assay, against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Salmonella typhi with fraction inhibitory concentration index values (FICI) of 0.38, 0.43, 0.38, 0.38, 0.38, and 0.75 for catechin and 0.38, 0.65, 0.38, 0.63, 0.38, and 0.75 for chlorogenic acid. The combination of catechin and chlorogenic acid with tetracycline significantly enhanced antibacterial action against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms; therefore, catechin and chlorogenic acid combinations with tetracycline could be employed as innovative and safe antibiotics to combat microbial resistance. Background: Cancer is a dangerous threat that creates extremely high rates of death and morbidity in various regions of the world. Finding suitable therapeutics to improve cancer therapy while avoiding side effects is critical. The most appropriate innovative therapeutics, which combine natural ingredients and nanomaterials, can improve the biological activity of cancer chemotherapeutics. Methods: Phenolic profiling using high-resolution mass spectrometry and the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles was achieved through the reaction of zinc acetate with Euphorbia retusa extract. The characterization of ZnONPs was performed by UV, IR, Zeta potential, XRD, SEM, and TEM. The cytotoxic activity of the ZnONPs was evaluated using a SRB assay against lung, liver, and breast cancer cell lines. Moreover, the mechanism of cytotoxic activity was evaluated in the form of caspase-8 promoters and anti-inflammatory mechanisms using the Western blot method. Results: The high-resolution LC/MS/MS of the E. retusa led to the identification of 22 compounds in the plant for the first time. The Er-ZnONPs had hexagonal shapes, were approximately 100 nm in size, and consisted of aggregated particles of about 10 nm. The E. retusa ZnONPs exhibited cytotoxic activity against HA-549 (IC50 = 22.3 µg/mL), HepG2 (IC50 = 25.6), Huh-7 (IC50 = 25.7), MCF-7 (IC50 = 37.7), and MDA-MB-231 (IC50 = 37). Conclusions: E. retusa are rich in phenolics that are capable of synthesizing ZnONPs, which possess cytotoxic activity, via caspase-8 promotion and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Jasminum multiflorum Burm. f. (J. multiflorum) is an ornamental plant with traditional medicinal importance. This study aims to evaluate the activity of J. multiflorum isolated compounds against hepatocellular carcinoma cells infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) in vitro. The in vitro anti-viral and anti-oncogenic-related activity were validated by anchorage-independent assay plus transwell migration/invasion and spreading assay. In addition to chromatographic isolation of the active metabolites. The flower extract demonstrated a significant antiviral potential through reducing active viral replication by more than 90%. Study results credit this to specific reduction of viral NS5A and cellular EphA2 protein levels. Sciatic nerve injury is often associated with neuropathic pain and neuroinflammation in the central and peripheral nervous systems. In our previous work, Potamogeton perfoliatus L. displayed anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties, predominantly via the inhibition of COX-2 enzyme and attenuation of oxidative stress. Herein, we extended our investigations to study the effects of the plant's extract on pain-related behaviors, oxidative stress, apoptosis markers, GFAP, CD68 and neuro-inflammation in sciatic nerve chronic constriction injury (CCI) rat model. The levels of the pro-inflammatory marker proteins in sciatic nerve and brainstem were measured with ELISA 14 days after CCI induction. Pretreatment with the extract significantly attenuated mechanical and cold allodynia and heat hyperalgesia with better potential than the reference drug, pregabalin. In addition, CCI lead to the overexpression of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), tumor necrosis alpha (TNFα), nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), and NADPH oxidase-1 (NOX-1) and decreased the catalase level in sciatic nerve and brainstem. The observed neuro-inflammatory changes were accompanied with glial cells activation (increased GFAP and CD68 positive cells), apoptosis (increased Bax) and structural changes in both brainstem and sciatic nerve. The studied extract attenuated the CCI-induced neuro-inflammatory changes, oxidative stress, and apoptosis while it induced the expression of Bcl-2 and catalase in a dose dependent manner. It also decreased the brainstem expression of CD68 and GFAP indicating a possible neuroprotection effect. Antibiotic resistance by pathogenic bacteria has risen to dangerous level all over the world. The study is aimed to evaluate the potential synergistic interaction of Ficus nitida bark phenolic extract with tetracycline against some pathogenic bacterial strains. The phenolic profile of the F. nitida bark acetone extract was determined using HPLC-PDA-MS/MS and the synergistic interaction of the acetone extract with tetracycline was evaluated by checkerboard assay followed by molecular docking. Fourteen phenolic compounds were identified in the acetone extract that include quinic acid and its derivatives in addition to flavan-3-ol and procyanidin derivatives. Synergistic interaction between the acetone extract and tetracycline was investigated against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with fraction inhibitory concentration index (FICI) values of 0.43, 0.50, 0.38, and 0.375, respectively and the additive effect against Salmonella typhi and Klebsiella pneumonia with FICI value of 0.625 and 0.75, respectively. In silico molecular docking study of some acetone fractions, namely; 5-caffeoyl quinic acid, Catechin-O- trihydroxy phenyl rhamnoside, Cinchonain, and Equisetumpyrone indicated that these constituents exhibited synergistic effect due to their efflux pump inhibitory effect. Significant enhancement in antibacterial activity was observed against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria due to combination of F. nitida phenolic extract with tetracycline. This study focused on the profiling of phenolic constituents in 80% methanolic extracts of the leaves of some Jasminum species cultivated in Egypt and their antioxidant activities. Phenolic profiling was performed by total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents and HPLC-DAD for selected species in comparison to authentic standards. DPPH assay was used to estimate the antioxidant activities of Jasminum azoricum L., Jasminum humile L., Jasminum multiflorum (Burm.f.) Andrew, Jasminum officinale L., Jasminum sambac (Ait) L. "Arabian Nights cultivar" and Jasminum sambac (Ait) L. "Grand Duke of Tuscany cultivar". Jasminum multiflorum showed the highest antioxidant activity among selected species with IC50 of 34.8 µg/ml. J. multiflorum showed high concentrations of hydroxytyrosol, protocatechuic acid, hydroxybenzoic acid, kaempferol-3-O- neohesperidoside, and quercetin-3-O-glucoside with concentrations of 977.1 µg/g, 2224.7 µg/g, 714.8 µg/g, 1738.8 µg/g, and 4356.1 µg/g, respectively. Cancer is the second leading cause of mortality accounting for one in every six deaths globally. Plant secondary metabolites, among them polyphenols, represent an effective and much safer alternative approach to the currently available medications. In this work, utilizing LC-MS/MS, we characterized the constituents of S. yapa leaves extract and evaluated its antioxidant and anticancer properties. In total, 34 secondary metabolites, mainly flavonoids (Tricin, luteolin, and apigenin and their glucosides as well as sulfated derivatives) were identified. The extract manifested substantial antioxidant activity in DPPH assay, and high total phenolic content determined by Folin Ciocalteu method. The extract was safe up to 4800 mg/kg b.wt. when administered orally in mice and neither affected the hematological parameters nor the liver enzyme levels at the studied dose (LD 50 , 480 mg, kg b.wt.). In the treated animals, the extract surpassed the reference drug (5-flouro uracil) and significantly reduced the tumor volume and weight by 71.50 and 85.46%, respectively, increased the median survival time to 53.2 days and the lifespan by 116%. The extract improved all the hematological parameters, where it increased the hemoglobin (Hb) concentration, red blood cell (RBC) count, packed cell volume (PVC) and platelets by 58.21, 8.98, 9.89 and 120%, respectively, compared to the untreated EAC bearing animals. Additionally, the extract significantly declined the elevated levels of ALT and AST enzymes by 29.18% and 59.88%, respectively. In molecular docking, the annotated flavonoids displayed appreciable binding affinities to the active sites of VEGFR1 and VEGFR2.
