This paper presents a systematic review that explores the latest advancements in predictive maintenance methods and cybersecurity for solar panel systems, shedding light on the advantages and challenges of the most recent developments in predictive maintenance techniques for solar plants. Numerous important research studies, reviews, and empirical studies published between 2018 and 2023 are examined. These technologies help in detecting defects, degradation, and anomalies in solar panels by facilitating early intervention and reducing the probability of inverter failures. The analysis also emphasizes how challenging it is to adopt predictive maintenance in the renewable energy industry. Achieving a balance between model complexity and accuracy, dealing with system unpredictability, and adjusting to shifting environmental conditions are among the challenges. It also highlights the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL), which are all incorporated into solar panel predictive maintenance. By enabling real-time monitoring, data analysis, and anomaly identification, these developments improve the accuracy and effectiveness of maintenance procedures.

Solar photovoltaic systems have increasingly become essential for harvesting renewable energy. However, as these systems grow in prevalence, the issue of the end of life of modules is also increasing. Regular maintenance and inspection are vital to extend the lifespan of these systems, minimize energy losses, and protect the environment. This paper presents an innovative explainable AI model for detecting anomalies in solar photovoltaic panels using an enhanced convolutional neural network (CNN) and the VGG16 architecture. The model effectively identifies physical and electrical changes, such as dust and bird droppings, and is implemented using the PyQt5 Python tool to create a user-friendly interface that facilitates decision-making for users. Key processes included dataset balancing through oversampling and data augmentation to expand the dataset. The model achieved impressive performance metrics: 91.46% accuracy, 98.29% specificity, and an F1 score of 91.67%. Overall, it enhances power generation efficiency and prolongs the lifespan of photovoltaic systems, while minimizing environmental risks.

This paper presents a comprehensive and comparative study of solar energy forecasting in Morocco, utilizing four machine learning algorithms: Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and artificial neural networks (ANNs). The study is conducted using a smart metering device designed for a photovoltaic system at an industrial site in Benguerir, Morocco. The smart metering device collects energy usage data from a submeter and transmits it to the cloud via an ESP-32 card, enhancing monitoring, efficiency, and energy utilization. Our methodology includes an analysis of solar resources, considering factors such as location, temperature, and irradiance levels, with PVSYST simulation software version 7.2, employed to evaluate system performance under varying conditions. Additionally, a data logger is developed to monitor solar panel energy production, securely storing data in the cloud while accurately measuring key parameters and transmitting them using reliable communication protocols. An intuitive web interface is also created for data visualization and analysis. The research demonstrates a holistic approach to smart metering devices for photovoltaic systems, contributing to sustainable energy utilization, smart grid development, and environmental conservation in Morocco. The performance analysis indicates that ANNs are the most effective predictive model for solar energy forecasting in similar scenarios, demonstrating the lowest RMSE and MAE values, along with the highest R2 value.

The use of solar energy has been rapidly expanding as a clean and renewable energy source, with the installation of photovoltaic panels on homes, businesses, and large-scale solar farms. The increasing demand for sustainable energy sources has pushed the growth of the solar industry, as well as advancements in technology, making solar panels more efficient and cost-effective. The implementation of solar energy not only reduces our reliance on non-renewable fossil fuels but also helps to mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing carbon emissions. This paper presents a complete and comparative study of solar energy production forecasting in Morocco using six machine learning (ML) algorithms : Support Vector Regression (SVR), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Generalized Additive Model (GAM) and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBOOST), based on Solar Power Plant daily data installed in Benguerir city of Morocco between January and December 2022. The models were trained, tested, and then evaluated. In order to assess the models performance four metrics were used in this study, namely root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute scaled error (MASE)and R-squared (R2). The performance of the models reveals ANN to be the most effective predictive model for energy forecasting in similar cases with the lowest value of RMSE, MSAE and the highest value of R-squared, which are accepted as one of the most important performance criteria by the ANN model. The findings of this study not only validate the effectiveness of the ANN algorithm but also offer the appropriate parameters for achieving the best results in predicting solar energy production. By identifying the optimal configuration of the ANN algorithm, we provide valuable insights that can be directly applied in real-world applications, thereby enhancing the optimization of solar energy systems and contributing to a sustainable future, particularly the integration of these results in an edge device for the predictive maintenance of photovoltaic power plants.

Abstract Background Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is an important diagnostic test for bone mass status. The aim of this work was to set the standards for structured reporting of DXA measurements in adults within the context of fracture and fall risk assessment. Results Two rounds of Delphi were completed. The first Delphi round had a 68% response rate, while round two had a 100% response rate. After round 2, a total of 28 items were obtained, which were classified into three domains. The percentage of people who agreed with the recommendations (ranks 9–7) ranged from 76.5 to 100%. The wording of all 19 clinical standards determined by the scientific committee was agreed upon (i.e., 75% of respondents strongly agreed or agreed). Conclusion The DXA scan report is an independent document that contains sufficient information to enable optimal osteoporosis management advised by an experienced healthcare professional. Setting up quality standards for DXA scans not only supports healthcare professionals reporting/interpreting bone densitometry but also meets the parameters outlined in national as well as international guidelines or recommendations for the optimal management of osteoporosis and subsequent prevention of low trauma fractures.

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas produced by the decay of uranium and radium. It is the second cause of cancer of the lungs after smoking. It has been present in Earth's crust since the creation of Earth. Uranium-rich rocks in the deep crust are the main source of radon. Its emanation from the ground surface varies from one point to another depending on the physical characteristics of the terrain crossed as observed in this study between North and West Morocco. A dosimetric study of those emanations was performed by using the LR-115 solid-state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) which was subsequently processed by techniques developed and calibrated in the laboratory. The study revealed high concentrations of this gas in confined spaces at ground level and, in particular, in basements and less-ventilated ground floor rooms. In order to reduce these concentrations of radon and the probability of carcinogenic attacks by these accumulations of this gas, it is recommended to ventilate these premises well. Good air circulation allows the removal of this harmful gas.

Analog In-Memory Computing (AIMC) is a promising approach to reduce the latency and energy consumption of Deep Neural Network (DNN) inference and training. However, the noisy and non-linear device characteristics and the non-ideal peripheral circuitry in AIMC chips require adapting DNNs to be deployed on such hardware to achieve equivalent accuracy to digital computing. In this Tutorial, we provide a deep dive into how such adaptations can be achieved and evaluated using the recently released IBM Analog Hardware Acceleration Kit (AIHWKit), freely available at https://github.com/IBM/aihwkit. AIHWKit is a Python library that simulates inference and training of DNNs using AIMC. We present an in-depth description of the AIHWKit design, functionality, and best practices to properly perform inference and training. We also present an overview of the Analog AI Cloud Composer, a platform that provides the benefits of using the AIHWKit simulation in a fully managed cloud setting along with physical AIMC hardware access, freely available at https://aihw-composer.draco.res.ibm.com. Finally, we show examples of how users can expand and customize AIHWKit for their own needs. This Tutorial is accompanied by comprehensive Jupyter Notebook code examples that can be run using AIHWKit, which can be downloaded from https://github.com/IBM/aihwkit/tree/master/notebooks/tutorial.

Spatialization of biomass and carbon stocks is essential for a good understanding of the forest stand and its characteristics, especially in degraded Mediterranean cork oak forests. Furthermore, the analysis of biomass and carbon stock changes and dynamics is essential for understanding the carbon cycle, in particular carbon emissions and stocks, in order to make projections, especially in the context of climate change. In this research, we use a multidimensional framework integrating forest survey data, LiDAR UAV data, and extracted vegetation indices from Landsat imagery (NDVI, ARVI, CIG, etc.) to model and spatialize cork oak biomass and carbon stocks on a large scale. For this purpose, we explore the use of univariate and multivariate regression modeling and examine several types of regression, namely, multiple linear regression, stepwise linear regression, random forest regression, simple linear regression, logarithmic regression, and quadratic and cubic regression. The results show that for multivariate regression, stepwise regression gives good results, with R2 equal to 80% and 65% and RMSE equal to 2.59 and 1.52 Mg/ha for biomass and carbon stock, respectively. Random forest regression, chosen as the ML algorithm, gives acceptable results, explaining 80% and 60% of the variation in biomass and carbon stock, respectively, and an RMSE of 2.74 and 1.72 Mg/ha for biomass and carbon stock, respectively. For the univariate regression, the simple linear regression is chosen because it gives satisfactory results, close to those of the quadratic and cubic regressions, but with a simpler equation. The vegetation index chosen is ARVI, which shows good performance indices, close to those of the NDVI and CIG. The assessment of biomass and carbon stock changes in the study area over 35 years (1985–2020) showed a slight increase of less than 10 Mg/ha and a decrease in biomass and carbon stock over a large area.

While digital twins (DTs) have recently gained prominence as a viable option for creating reliable asset representations, many existing frameworks and architectures in the literature involve the integration of different technologies and paradigms, including the Internet of Things (IoTs), data modeling, and machine learning (ML). This complexity requires the orchestration of these different technologies, often resulting in subsystems and composition frameworks that are difficult to seamlessly align. In this paper, we present a scalable compositional framework designed for the development of a DT-based production management system (PMS) with advanced production monitoring capabilities. The conducted approach used to design the compositional framework utilizes the Factory Design and Improvement (FDI) methodology. Furthermore, the validation of our proposed framework is illustrated through a case study conducted in a phosphate screening station within the context of the mining industry.

Through edge computing, it enables real-time analysis and decision-making at the network edge. Leveraging machine learning algorithms and accurate predictive models, these edge devices provide precise energy generation forecasts, facilitating optimal energy utilization and strategic planning for stakeholders. Additionally, the architecture incorporates anomaly detection techniques to proactively identify deviations from normal operation, minimizing downtime, and enabling timely maintenance. This approach ensures uninterrupted energy generation, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the entire monitoring system. The integration of these features within edge devices improves the performance and reliability of energy monitoring systems. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the prevalence of osteoporosis in patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and to determine the associated factors. Materials and Methods: we conducted a case–control study, between January 2019 and April 2019, including patients with MGUS and age- and sex-matched healthy controls (one patient/three controls). For all participants, demographic and clinical data were collected as results of bone mineral density by two-photon X-ray absorptiometry at the lumbar spine and femoral neck. Results: In our series, we included 120 participants: 30 patients with MGUS and 90 healthy controls. In the MGUS carrier group, the mean age was 66.26 ± 8.61 years. The mean monoclonal peak was 11.57 g/L. Densitometric osteoporosis was noted in 12 (40%) patients with MGUS versus 17 (18.9%) in the control group (P = 0.021). In addition, only one patient with MGUS had a vertebral fracture. On multivariate analysis, associated factors with osteoporosis in the MGUS group were age (odds ratio [OR] = 1.14; confidence interval [CI] [1.03–1.26]; P < 0.05) and previous fracture (OR = 3.03; CI [1.22–15.06]; P < 0.05).
