Background and Objectives: Infectious intracranial aneurysms (IIAs) are rare cerebrovascular complications of infective endocarditis (IE) accounting approximatively for 0.5% to 6.5% of all aneurysms. In children, mycotic aneurysms secondary to IE are uncommon., Methods: This is a retrospective study of patients treated for pediatric IIA secondary to IE at our institution with an emphasis on presentation, etiologies, nuances in management, and outcomes., Results: One hundred fifty-one patients were treated for IE secondary to congenital or acquired heart disease, of which 13 patients (8.6%) presented with intracranial hemorrhage. IIA occurred in 5 patients (2.6%) with IE. IIA accounted for 15% of intracranial aneurysms treated during the study period., Conclusion: Pediatric patients with ruptured IIAs have a high rate of rerupture, and early surgical intervention should be considered through an open or endovascular route when available., (Copyright © Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2024. Introduction: Achilles tendon rupture is one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries and accounts to 20 % of all large tendon ruptures The surgical choice of a procedure might play a role in the incidence of postoperative complications. This study aimed to estimate and compare the incidence of complications occurring within a 30-day window following primary surgical repair of the Achilles tendon with or without a graft., Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the ACS NSQIP database from 2005 to 2021. Patients were divided into 2 cohorts (primary surgical repair with and without graft)., Results: A total of 7010 patients were included in the analysis. Among the graft group, 10.9 % reported any complication which was double the percentage of complications in the no graft group. Only 3.8 % of the no graft patients had reported systemic complications compared to 8.3 % in the graft group. Chronic steroid use was found to be an effect modifier in the incidence of any complications after primary surgical repair when comparing graft versus no graft (P-value 0.016)., Conclusion: Surgical repairwith tendon graft develops more complications than repairing without graft. Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults, and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation, there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this population. Following the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation, a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing research. In this work, we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins, triggers of complement activation, and role of effector functions in the pathology. We study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris, and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular patterns. Several effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury, and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord injury. Following this pathophysiological review, we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human subjects. This review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury, to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins, and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models., (Copyright © 2025 Copyright: © 2025 Neural Regeneration Research.)

Chronic myeloid leukemia is a myeloproliferative disease where cells of myeloid linage display a t(9;22) chromosomal translocation leading to the formation of the BCR/ABL fusion gene and the continuous activation of tyrosine kinases. This malignancy has a peak incidence at 45 to 85 years, accounting for 15% of all leukemias in adults. Controlling the activity of tyrosine kinase became the main strategy in chronic myeloid leukemia treatment, with imatinib being placed at the forefront of current treatment protocols. New approaches in future anticancer therapy are emerging with nanomedicine being gradually implemented. Setting through a thorough survey of published literature, this review discusses the use of inorganic nanoparticles in chronic myeloid leukemia therapy. After an introduction on the basics of chronic myeloid leukemia, a description of the current treatment modalities of chronic myeloid leukemia and drug-resistance mechanisms is presented. This is followed by a general view on the applications of nanostrategies in medicine and then a detailed breakdown of inorganic nanocarriers and their uses in chronic myeloid leukemia treatment.

Burn wound healing involves a series of complex processes which are subject to intensive investigations to improve the outcomes, in particular, the healing time and the quality of the scar. Burn injuries, especially severe ones, are proving to have devastating effects on the affected patients. Stem cells have been recently applied in the field to promote superior healing of the wounds. Not only have stem cells been shown to promote better and faster healing of the burn wounds, but also they have decreased the inflammation levels with less scar progression and fibrosis. This review aims to highlight the beneficial therapeutic effect of stem cells in burn wound healing and to discuss the involved pathways and signaling molecules. The review covers various types of burn wound healing like skin and corneal burns, along with the alternative recent therapies being studied in the field of burn wound healing. The current reflection of the attitudes of people regarding the use of stem cells in burn wound healing is also stated.

Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) can be considered an extension of transoral microscopic laser surgery. The microscope is replaced by an endoscope that provides the surgeon with a three-dimensional view of the surgical field. The surgeon operates from a console that controls the arms of the patient cart. These arms hold miniaturized surgical instruments that are transorally inserted into the patient, enabling tumor resection. Exposure is ensured by various mouth gags. The use of various endoscopes (0°, 30°), a work radius of 540° for instruments, and a zoom function provides significant advantages over the common transoral laser techniques. With this article we report our first experience with this technique and believe that it may provide significant advantages. However, thorough clinical testing in Germany is required before conclusions can be drawn.
