We experienced a case of gastric leiomyosarcoma, with calcification and ossific nest, complicated by duodenal Brunnerioma. A 66-year-old male patient was found to have a tumor in the anterior wall of the upper body of the stomach, showing a mixed type of Skandalakis classification with dimensions of 120×80×70mm. Ultrasonography and CT-scan examinations were useful for the diagnosis of calcification. The tissue findings indicated a formation of bone surrounded by osteoblasts. We have so far had reports of 22 such cases of gastric myogenic tumor accompanied by calcification in Japan, in which the tumors were not so big (mean diameter of 47mm). The ratio of males to females was 6:14, notably more for females. Some endocrine factors were considered to have participated in the mechanism of calcification. Furthermore, a probable participation of an unknown humorla activator was suspected in the growth of the tumors.

Small-angle scattering of soft X-rays by polystyrene latex spheres was studied using the synchrotron radiation from the electron synchrotron operated at about 1 GeV at the Institute for Nuclear Study, University of Tokyo. The exposure time required to make three smallest-angle diffraction peaks visible on a photographic plate was 2 min with the soft X-rays (46.8 A) of the synchrotron radiation, compared to 400 min with the CKα radiation (44.8 A) from the X-ray tube operated at 3 kV ×50 mA. The diffraction patterns were so distinct that inter-particle interference functions could be derived with four diffraction peaks. Experimental results as a whole suggest that soft X-rays in the synchrotron radiation will be very useful in studying two-dimensional structures of thin organic materials with the thickness of microns or submicrons.

SAXS by solutions of monodisperse polystyrene at intermediate concentrations has been studied for the solvents having only a small volume-exclusion effect, such as methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and cyclohexane (CH). Both the density-density correlation function of segments in solution and the osmotic compressibility, as obtained from the absolute intensity at zero angle, were measured for different concentrations and the results were successfully analysed by means of the recent theory of Moore [J. Phys. (Paris), (1977), 38, 265–271] . According to the theory, in the semi-dilute poor-solvent regime the concentration C, dependence of the screening length ξ, and the scattered intensity at zero angle I(0) are given by {{1}\over{\xi^{2}C}} = 12NA{{B_1}\over{A^2}} + 36N2A{{B_2}\over{A^2}}C and {{(\Delta Z)^2}\over{I(0)}} = B1 + 3NAB2C, where M is the molecular weight of a polymer molecule, NA Avogadro's number and A2M the mean square end-to-end distance of an unperturbed chain; m2B1 and m3B2 are respectively the binary and ternary cluster integrals (or the first and the second irreducible integrals) for segments in solution, m being the molecular weight of a segment. ΔZ is the number of excess mole electrons per unit mass of segments. The measured concentration dependences were in agreement with the above prediction and the values of B1 and B2 were obtained.

By using the interaction parameters deduced from small-angle neutron and X-ray scattering, we have calculated, via mean-field theory, the coexistence curve of the semidilute solutions of polystyrene in cyclohexane. We obtain substantial agreement between the theoretical coexistence curve and the observed phase-separation points reported in the literature. General features of the temperature-concentration diagram of polymer solutions in the semidilute poor solvent regime are also discussed.

Small-angle X-ray scattering from semidilute solutions of polystyrene in cyclohexane has been studied in a poor solvent regime. The values of binary and ternary cluster integrals of polymer segments were determined from the concentration dependences of the correlation length and the osmotic compressibility, as obtained from the absolute intensity at zero scattering angle, at various temperatures in the poor solvent regime. By using these interaction parameters the coexistence curve was calculated via a mean field theory. Excellent agreement was achieved between the calculated coexistence curve and the experimental phase separation points which we have measured.

Splenic artery aneurysm is considered to be a relativery uncommon disease. However, it is the most frequent of all abdominal splanchic artery aneurysms, and the recent development of diagnostic imaging has resulted in an increasing number of reported cases.We report the case of a 60-year-old man who visited the hospital with a chief complaint of epigastric pain. Gastric endoscopy demonstrated a submucosal tumor-like semispherical mass, 5×5cm, in the posterior wall of the middle part of the gastric body. On endoscopic ultrasonography, the mass was found to be a compression from outside the gastric wall, and celiac angiography led to the diagnosis of splenic artery aneyrysm originating from the main splenic artery. In operation, only aneurysmectomy was carried out and splenectomy was not performed. The patient was discharged with a complete cure on the 17th hospital day.Histologically, there was no arteriosclerotic change in the wall of the aneurysm, and etiologically, an aneurysm of Group I in the Stanley classification was considered.

The structure and the structure change of the melt crystallized oligourethanes, CH 3 CO (CH 2 ) 5 NHCO n OCH 3 , having strictly homogeneous molecular weight, were studied. The crystal system of every melt crystallized oligourethane was similar to that of the single crystal of n = 2. In the case of n = 2, crystalline rearrangement by annealing does not occur, although the number of hydrogen bonds increases. On the other hand, rearrangement occurs for n = 3 and higher oligomers. It was considered that the rearrangement for n = 3 was the transformation from the spherulite to the plate-like crystal, whilst for those of n = 6 and 8 the growth of the new spherulitic type of crystal by secondary crystallization occurs. For n = 10 and the polymer crystal the thickening was accompanied by an increase of ordered regions.

高分子複合材料用フィラーの表面処理効果を, 特に加水分解性に注目して調べるため, 強い疎水性基を持つcyclehcxyl trichiorosilane (CS), また比較のためにγ-methacryloxy propyl trimethexysilane (γ-MPS) で処理した球状E-ガラスフィラーの表面状態を解析し, それをアクリル系樹脂に複合して機械的性質を検討した. フィラー表面のFT-IR拡散反射差スペクトルに処理剤の吸収が認められた, 機械的性質は, CS処理は表面処理効果が見られず, γ-MPS処理は引張, 圧縮の両強度共に向上した. また, 水中加熱サイクル後, CS処理は引張, 圧縮強度の顕著な低下は見られないが, γ-MPS処理の場合低下した. 以上から, γ-MPS処理はフィラー複合材料の機械的性質向上に貢献するが, 水中熱処理によりシロキサン結合の加水分解が進み機械的性質が落ちる. 一方, 強い疎水性付与が期待されたCS処理は, マトリックス樹脂との相互作用が小さく顕著な表面処理効果は見られない.

The dependence of the molecular motion of polyurethane on the length of methylene chain in the monomer unit and on the molecular weight has been studied by the broad line nuclear magnetic resonance, NMR, dynamic loss modulus, E″, wide angle X-ray scattering, and the density.The second moment, ‹ΔH2›, at the rigid state increases with an increasing number of methylene groups.The degree of narrowing of ‹ΔH2› for the secondary dispersion increases with increasing numbers of methylene groups. This agrees with the theoretical prediction based on the local mode motion of the main chain. The force constant of the local mode motion of the polymethylene chain thus estimated is 3.0×1013 erg. The dispersion of the dynamic loss modulus at about −135°C corresponds to the above secondary dispersion of ‹ΔH2›.The primary dispersion temperature decreases with decreasing molecular weight.

The crystal structure of acetoxy(pentamethyleneurethane) dimer, was studied by the X-ray diffraction method. The crystal is triclinic with The diffraction patterns clearly show the existence of a subcell which is also triclinic with two (CH2)2 units in the unitcell. The subcell structure was determined by use of special non space group extinctions. The proposed crystal structure is that each of the two molecular chains in the main unit cell is connected side by side with other chains in the neighbouring cells by two hydrogen bonds to form molecular sheets parallel to the bs cs plane. Die Kristallstruktur des dimeren Acetoxy(pentamethylenurethans) wurde mit Hilfe der Rontgenbeugung ermittelt. Das Gitter ist triklin mit: Die Beugungsdiagramme zeigen klar die Existenz einer Subzelle, die ebenfalls triklin ist und zwei (CH2)2-Gruppen enthalt. Die Struktur der Subzelle wurde mit Hilfe von Berechnungen der Strukturfaktoren ermittelt. Die angenommene Kristallstruktur kann wie folgt beschrieben werden: Jede der beiden Polymerketten in einer Elementarzelle ist uber je zwei Wasserstoffbruckenbindungen mit anderen Ketten in benachbarten Zellen verknupft. Es entstehen so molekulare Schichten, die zur bscs-Flache parallel sind.

To study the dependence of the micro structure of oligomer crystals on the degree of polymerization, the small and wide angle X-ray scattering of the oligomer α-acetoxy-ω-methoxyoligo(oxypentamethyleneiminocarbonyl), CH3CO[O(CH2)5NHCO]nOCH3, having strictly homogeneous molecular weight, and of the corresponding polymer were investigated, together with the IR absorption spectra, the density and the thermal properties. The solution grown crystals of oligomers and of the polymer are composed of the two-phase structure. One is the crystalline phase having the ordered high density, and the other one is the intercrystalline phase of low density occupied by mobile molecular chain ends. The structure of the crystalline phase above trimer is similar to that of the dimer crystal, and the molecular motion in the intercrystalline phase is the local mode motion. This twophase structure could be illustrated by one dimensional density distribution having trapezoidal profile. Die Klein- und Weitwinkel-Rontgenstreuung, die IR-Absorptionsspektra, die Dichte und die thermischen Eigenschaften des oligomeren α-Acetoxy-ω-methoxyoligo(oxypentamethyleniminocarbonyl), CH3CO[O(CH2)3NHCO]nOCH3, mit streng einheitlichem Molekulargewicht und die des entsprechenden Polymeren wurden untersucht, um die Abhangigkeit der Mikrostruktur oligomerer Kristalle vom Polymerisationsgrad zu bestimmen. Die Struktur der in Losung kristallisierten Oligomeren und Polymeren entspricht dem Zwei-Phasen-Modell. Dabei hat die kristalline Phase eine hohe Packungsdichte, die andere, ungeordnete Phase ist von geringerer Packungsdichte und durch bewegliche Molekulkettenenden besetzt. Die Struktur der obengenannten kristallinen Phase oberhalb des Trimeren ist der des dimeren Kristalls ahnlich, und die molekulare Beweglichkeit in der ungeordneten Phase beruht auf einer lokalen Schwingung. Diese Zweiphasenstruktur kann durch eine eindimensionale Dichteverteilung mit einem trapezformigen Profil dargestellt werden.

Transfer of heat in a steady state in non-Newtonian fluids flowing in laminar motion through circular tube with constant wall temperature has been treated theoretically and experimentally by a number of workers. However, on the distribution of temperature within the fluid, few experimental data have hitherto been published.The theoretical interpretations of the experimental data have so far been made under the assumptions that the physical properties, such as heat capacity, density, consistency index and thermal conductivity of the fluids are independent of temperature, and that the heat produced by viscous friction and the heat conduction in the axial direction are negligibly small.The temperature distribution in the radial directions were directly measured by thermistor probe. As samples of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids, water and aqueous solutions of sodium carboxymethylcellulose of various concentrations were respectively used. In the analysis of the latter fluid, the power law is assumed.The observed temperature distributions agree fairly well with the theoretical predictions except at the vicinity of the tube wall.

Phase separation points of semidilute solutions of polystyrene in deuterated cyclohexane were measured and compared with those of polystyrene in protonated cyclohexane. Theoretical calculation of the coexistence curve by using the interaction parameters extracted from small-angle scattering of neutron and X-rays has revealed that the deuteration effect on the coexistence curve is due solely to a shift of θ point, the temperature at which the binary cluster integral vanishes, while leaving other factors unaltered. The origin of this feature is briefly discussed.

Fusobacterium属の選択培地である変法FM培地を用いて牛の第1胃内容液におけるFusobacterium のspeciesを検討した. 牛肝膿瘍の主要原因菌とされているF. necrophorumは分離株54株(46頭)中4株(4頭)で胃液1ml中の菌数は103～104であった. 分離したspeciesは9種類54株で, F. variumが最も多く得られた. また, F.variumは澱粉質飼料を多量に用いる肥育牛に高率に検出され, 搾乳牛との間に明らかに差がみられ給与飼料との関連性が示唆された.

The results of small angle neutron scattering by semi-dilute polystyrene solutions in deuterated cyclohexane near the θ temperature (Cotton et al. [3]) are analysed using the theory of Moore [2] and the values of binary and ternary cluster integrals are determined.
