3. Design guidance of a circularly polarized bowtie antenna for ISM bands.

Abstract

This article presents the design steps of a planar circularly polarized (CP) bowtie‐shaped antenna for 2.4–2.5 GHz industry, science, and medicine band. Using these design steps, an antenna model is developed. The antenna design is extensively described, simulated, measured, and analyzed. The antenna is simulated using the HFSS software and produced by laser etching of copper on a low‐cost Taconic RF‐35 substrate. The presented method of this design is easy to fabricate and is tunable to different frequencies. The produced CP planar antenna has a size of 55 × 55 × 0.25 mm3, a measured axial ratio bandwidth ranging from 2.33 to 2.49 GHz, and a measured peak gain of 3.21 dBiC. The produced antenna is fully planar, compatible with the printing process and thus suitable for Internet of Things applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The design of a fully integrated CMOS low noise amplifiers (LNA) for ultra-wide-band (UWB) integrated receivers is presented. An original LC input matching cell architecture enables fractional bandwidths of about 25%, with practical values, that match the new ECC 6-8.5-GHz UWB frequency band. An associated design method which allows low noise figure and high voltage gain is also presented. Measurements results on an LNA prototype fabricated in a 0.13-[micro]m standard CMOS process show average voltage gain and noise figure of 29.5 and 4.5 dB, respectively. Abstract

International audience; Cet article traitede la conception d’une étiquette sans-contact UWB-RFID afin d’apporter à la technologie RFID la précision des solutions UWB pour la géolocalisation des étiquettes au sein d’un entrepôt par exemple. Elle est ainsi constituée d’un émetteur UWB et d’un récupérateur d’énergie UHF. Le premier lui permet d’envoyer des impul-sions UWB vers un récepteur UWB adéquat et le secondlui permet d’être télé-alimentée en UHF par un lecteur RFID. L’émetteur UWB et le récupérateur d’énergie UHF ont ici été implémentés dans le même circuit intégré, fabriqué en technologie CMOS 130nm,de façon à ce que la fréquence de répétition des impulsions UWB émises soit l’image de la puissance UHF reçue. Ce circuit intégré a été reporté sur un PCB sur lequel ont été gravées les deux antennes requises, à savoirl’antenne UWB et l’antenne UHF. Les résultats de mesure montrent pour cette réalisation qu’une puissance incidente d’au moins -10dBm doit être reçue par l’étiquette pour que la génération périodique des impulsions UWB débute. Enfin, une puissance incidente reçue de 5dBm permet quant à elle une communication UWB vers un récepteur adéquat à un débitde 330kbps.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel compact ultra‐high frequency (UHF) tag antenna for radio frequency identification is presented. This tag uses the Monza‐X from Impinj as a differential radio frequency integrated circuit. A wideband circular polarization was achieved. The frequency range covered for an axial ratio (AR) < 3 dB is from 830 to 903 MHz. The designed antenna is simulated by using the electromagnetic software ansys high frequency structure simulator. The tag antenna is printed on 50 × 50 mm2 of Roger 4350B substrate with a dielectric constant (Ԑr) of 3.66 and thickness of 1.52 mm. The manufactured tag antenna performance has been tested by measuring the reading distance. The measurement results show good values of reading range (RR) especially in the EU Radio Frequency IDentification band. The tag has a maximum RR of about 13.3 m at 865 MHz with an Effective Isotropic Radiated Power of 2 W. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Slot radio frequency identification (RFID) Tag antennas designed for ultra‐high frequency (UHF) band are presented. Two orthogonal slots are used to achieve circular polarization (CP). By selecting an appropriate length of feed‐lines, the input impedance of the tag antenna can be controlled. Experimental results show a good reading range between 9 m and 10 m. Abstract

The design of a traveling-wave amplifier (TWA) in 0.13-μm standard CMOS technology is presented. It is designed to maximize the gain-bandwidth product (GBP). An asymmetric cascode, coplanar waveguide (CPW), and loss compensation technique enables maximization of the TWA GBP. Design and modeling of 90-Ω CPW used to synthesize inductors of the TWA lines is presented. Simulations with a design kit and developed models for CPW show a 52-GHz bandwidth with a maximum power gain of 8.5 dB at 10 GHz for a 135-mW power consumption. Abstract

International audience; In this paper, a broadband reader antenna is designed and manufactured for wearable ankle strap applications. The frequency range covered for S 11 < −10 dB is from 850 MHz to 1650 MHz with dipole like radiation pattern in free space. The proposed broadband antenna is manufactured with a semi-flex (Taconic RF-35) and flexible (Kapton) substrates. A good agreement between simulations and measurements has been achieved. Prototypes performances have been tested by measuring the reading distance. The maximum reading distance obtained is about 1.46 m at 865 MHz with an output power of the transmitter (P T X) of 25 dBm. Results of functional RFID test show that the proposed antenna can be used as an RFID reader antenna when it is placed on the ankle of the human body.

Abstract

International audience; This paper presents the design and fabrication of a broadband UHF RFID tag for bio-monitoring applications. The proposed tag is realized with a thin FR4 substrate of 200 µm, which can be considered as flexible. It shows good performances both in free space and placed on human body. For instance, in free space, the tag can be read at 14 m in the UHF RFID band and at an average distance of 4.6 m when it is placed on the human body. The overall tag size is only 80 mm × 50 mm × 200 µm.

Abstract

International audience; In this article, tag and reader multi-standards RFID antennas are presented. These antennas are matched on one the UHF RFID regulate frequency band (860-960 MHz) and on the ECC UWB frequency band (6-8.5 GHz). Tag is composed of two antennas, one match for the RFID applications with classical RFID input impedance, one for UWB matched at 50 Ω. Tag sizes are limited to credit card sizes (85x54 mm). Reader antenna is an association of a bowtie and a dipole antenna and it is matched on 50 Ω on twice bands. There is no sizes' specification for reader antennas. The substrate is FR4 0.8 mm thick for tag antennas and 1.6 mm for reader antennas. Epoxy's relative permittivity is 4.4 and its dielectric loss tangent is 0.02. Design rules, simulations, measures and perspectives are exposed.
