CHILD abuse , *PSYCHOLOGICAL factors , *CRIMINAL behavior , *HEALTH care teams , *PATHOLOGICAL psychology , *PSYCHOLOGICAL child abuse , *CHILD psychopathology - Abstract
A state of the art documentary research is presented, which aimed to make a synthesis of the scientific production between 2015 and 2019 about child maltreatment by neglect, in order to establish an overview of the research trends related to: psychological factors involved in child neglect, psychosocial context in which it takes place and comorbidity relationships between neglect and other types of maltreatment. To this end, we searched databases for documentary studies dealing with child neglect in the family context. The initial search yielded 18,860 research reports; once the refinement filters were applied, referring to: observation window (2015 - 2019), area (psychology, social sciences, health sciences and related) and type of document (reviews), 223 results were obtained which were reviewed by title and abstract, of these 47 met the inclusion criteria and were considered in the present State of the Art. Poceeded with a content analysis, using a systematization matrix that included information on: article identification data, theoretical and methodological structure and main findings. The analysis yielded information about the three initial categories and allowed the emergence of two categories: effects on the child victim and lines for intervention. The findings highlight the knowledge developed about predisposing factors, mainly: parental attachment style, experience of maltreatment in childhood and parental psychopathology; an aspect that becomes more complex when related to the environmental and socioeconomic conditions of the families, for example, the debate between poverty and neglect is far from being resolved, to the extent that there is not enough clarity about how to judge situations of deprivation in the care of children when parents (or main caregivers) are permanently faced with situations that put the basic needs of the family at stake. Likewise, there is evidence of a relevant advance in the knowledge of the effects on the child victim; effects that were classified as: biological and neurological, related to internalizing and externalizing problems, in attachment and bonding, in the development of criminal behavior and long-term effects, which raises the possible risk of a cycle of violence associated with neglect, since risk factors become effects or consequences. Likewise, a generalized allusion to the term abuse and neglect was found, an aspect that introduces ambiguities regarding the differentiation made of the different types of maltreatment and the knowledge developed regarding the most feasible comorbidity relationships according to the nature and underlying mechanisms in each type of maltreatment; an even more complex aspect when talking about the less visible forms such as psychosocial neglect, which supports the statement that neglect continues to be the least documented type of maltreatment in the research. Likewise, it was found that categories such as the experience of motherhood and fatherhood in the practice of daily care, are an aspect that is little addressed in the reviews consulted, so there is a gap in knowledge regarding the complexity of a phenomenon that overlaps in the bonding patterns, in the dependence and vulnerability of children. Consequently, the State of the Art, recognizing the development of interventions based on differential susceptibility or resilience, as well as on the improvement of the interaction between parents and children, offers inputs for the strengthening of the risk assessment mechanisms of this type of maltreatment and the psychosocial intervention strategies that are oriented from the child protection systems and, especially, from the basic health care teams, since they are in the first line of observation and therefore of early prevention of this type of maltreatment.

LITERATURE reviews , *PSYCHOLOGICAL factors , *ENVIRONMENTAL research , *ECOLOGICAL models , *SOCIETAL reaction - Abstract
Given the challenge that climate crisis implies, and the need to adopt urgent measures, all the disciplinary knowledge that humanity can develop is required to establish mitigation strategies. The objective of this article aims to contribute to the scientific discussion on climate change from the perspective of psychology, describing and analyzing the main factors that influence the sustainable behaviors exhibited by individuals. A non-systematic literature review was conducted, approaching the discussion from a reflective analysis perspective, given the potential of this tool for research in the field of education and social sciences. In this scenario, psychology provides significant resources to understand the diversity of personal and social responses to environmental care issues, both proactive and negationist. To this end, two major categories of study were reviewed: psychological factors and contextual factors. Then, the main intervention strategies are described through holistic and ecological models along with scientific evidence supporting their association allows to explain the sustainable actions of individuals. Finally, the pertinence of including these concepts in subsequent research addressing environmental themes for a more comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon is discussed. Background: After the lockdown, schools adopted measures to avoid infection, which changed pre-pandemic routines. We evaluated whether the new school conditions constituted a stress factor for children or contributed to their recovery after the impact of the lockdown period. Method: Participants included 291 families with children between 3 and 11 years of age. The children were assessed by parents through the Child and Adolescent Assessment System (SENA) at three time points: T1 (before COVID-19 confinement), T2 (after the children had spent between 4 and 6 weeks confined), and T3 (one year after the beginning of the pandemic). Results: For Preschoolers, no statistical differences were found in any scale or time point. For primary-school children, the differences between T1 and T3 were not significant. Comparisons between T2 and T3 showed significant differences in Willingness to study, Emotional regulation and Hyperactivity and impulsivity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that returning to school might have improved some dimensions of primary-school children's well-being. However, it seems that neither the confinement nor the restrictive measures have had a negative effect on our sample. To interpret these findings, we discuss the psychological factors of protection and vulnerability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Colombian armed conflict has had an impact on all the population's life dimensions, including their biopsychosocial health; thus, it is relevant to assess how this topic has been addressed, and the instruments used to measure mental health indicators. This research reviewed scientific article's approach mental health indicators of population exposed to armed conflict, which used instruments for that purpose. A scoping review of scientific articles was carried out following the PRISMA methodology and using the CADIMA software. The bibliographic search was made in Web of Science, Scielo and Scopus databases, using key terms in both English and Spanish. 21 articles which used 53 instruments were analyzed, the most applied being the AUDIT and the CIDI-CAPI. Most of the works sought to characterize mental health in different victimized populations, finding diagnoses such as post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, and substance use. Few studies of validation or construction of instruments were found. It is necessary to develop and validate tests to evaluate the effects of the conflict on mental health in Colombian victim populations that go beyond the diagnostic emphasis and allow a better assessment of those consequences.

The present study has two objectives. The first one is to study whether the different stages of teacher professional development vary the levels of psychological capital, engagement and burnout on university teachers. On the other hand, the second objective is to study the relationship between the stages of professional development, psychological capital and engagement with the burnout of university teachers. The sample is intentional, not probabilistic and was composed of 250 university professors, with an average age of 39 years (M = 39.5 and a TD = 11.15); fifty one per cent of the participants were female. Thirty-eight per cent of the participants have been teaching at the university for five years or less; twenty seven per cent have been doing so for 6 to 10 years, and thirty five per cent have been teaching at the university for more than 11 years. To evaluate the variables, the Spanish versions of the Psychological Capital Questionnaire, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory were used. The results indicated that more experienced teachers have higher levels of psychological capital (specifically effectiveness, resilience and hope) and higher levels of absorption, an engagement dimension, than less experienced teachers. No significant differences were found in burnout levels linked to academic experience. Finally, psychological capital (specifically the dimensions of optimism and hope) as well as engagement (specifically the dimensions of vigor and dedication) inhibit the emergence of burnout on university teachers.

Family can be a supportive and protective mental health context for trans children, yet little research, mainly qualitative, has focused on the experience of parents, who also suffer the impact of minority stress and live a process of meaning-making during gender affirmation process. This research aims to explore the impact of ambiguous loss and its relationship to their emotional intelligence and well-being. A mixed methods triangulation design with cross-sectional observation was used. Eighty-nine parents of transgender people participated in the study. The mean age was 46.37 years (S.D. = 7.15), 86.5% (n = 77) identified themselves as female and 44.4% reported a grieving process, although there were no statistically significant differences on well-being, emotional intelligence or emotional symptoms depending on it. However, parents with loss reported more negative emotions and do not benefit to the same extent from emotional intelligence or the buffering effect of positive emotions (especially pride). Perception of loss increases family distress, encouraging the gender affirmation process to be felt as a rupture and hindering the elaboration of new meanings. Future studies could include different personal, family, and contextual variables to further explore the experience of loss during the process, to assist these families more effectively.

WOMEN prisoners , *WEB databases , *SCIENCE databases , *PRISONS ,DEVELOPING countries - Abstract
The objective of this work was to analyze the psychological effects associated with the stay in prison in women prisoners as well as their psychosocial profile. For this purpose, a literature search was carried out in the following databases: Web of Science, Scopus, Psicodoc, PsycInfo, Pubmed and DOAJ. In the search a total of 1403 papers were located (1350 articles and 53 reviews), finally selecting 106 studies. There are important differences between men and women in terms of adjustment to prison, in addition to the fact that women prisoners have specific needs. In conclusion, more studies are needed to complement the information on the psychological effects of women in less developed countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Conclusiones: El estudiante con alta autoeficacia y estrés positivo, será capaz de autorregular su comportamiento académico y evitar la postergación de tareas., Introduction: Self-efficacy and eutress are motivational elements that lead academic success; while procrastination leads to failure. Self-efficacy and stress have been shown to affect procrastination behaviors, but to what extent? In addition, differences between gender in relation to these variables are evident in the literature. However, these studies are not conclusive. Therefore, this research aimed to establish an explanatory and invariant model of the effect of self-efficacy toward procrastination behaviors, mediated by eutres. Methodology: The method used is structural regressions with latent variables, and multigroup invariance was applied. The sample was nonprobabilistic of 1224 university students (61.5% women) between 18 and 35 years old (M = 22.89; SD = 5.46). Results: Adequate fit indices of the proposed model were found (CFI = 0.951, TLI = 0.943, RMSEA = 0.041) where the direct, indirect and total effect was demonstrated, through the eutres, on postponement and self-regulation. The effect size for self-regulation was large (f 2 = 0.54) and small for postponement (f 2 = 0.14). Furthermore, the model turned out to be invariant between men and women. Conclusions: Student with high self-efficacy and positive stress, will be able to self-regulate his academic behavior and avoid postponement of tasks.

- Abstract
The health crisis caused by Covid-19 has consequences that go beyond the strictly biomedical, having a differential impact on the labor market, economic and subjective well-being of the population, causing high vulnerability and prolonged uncertainty. The pandemic has produced events that escape the biomedical, impacting differentially on people’s economic and subjective well-being. By means of contingency tables and Classification Trees, we analyze the perception, uncertainty and feelings that young people between 14 and 24 years old have about the pandemic and its effects, reported in the Covid-19 Youth survey. Of special interest are those who fear losing the school year due to the health crisis. The results highlight that young people recognize the seriousness of Covid-19, although they perceive that adults exaggerate the crisis and that young people are not infected; in addition, they report high levels of uncertainty due to the death of a family member or friend, family economic problems, and fear of losing the school year. Educational uncertainty is predominant among younger youth and is linked to high levels of worry, anxiety and fear, together with the manifestation of compulsive drinking and insomnia. The conclusions highlight the impacts that the pandemic has had on the subjective wellbeing of the young population; socioemotional deterioration related to the fear of death of close ones, family economic problems, and losing the school year.

- Abstract
SUPPORT groups , *SOCIAL support , *IMPRISONMENT , *PRISON conditions , *PRISON psychology - Abstract
The results of a research whose objective was to understand the psychological effects of breaking bonds with the primary support group because of prisonization are presented with the purpose of contributing in the formulation of researches related to the mental health of inmates in prison from a family perspective. For this purpose, the research aimed to deepen the most significant issues of a group of inmates (male and female) from the Complejo Penitenciario y Carcelario Medellín - Pedregal (COPED) related to family breakdown, being abandoned by the partner, insufficient or inexistent support networks outside the prison and the consequences or psychological reactions caused by them. It is important to mention that the participants in the research were identified by using chain sampling or network sampling. It is also important to note that being a qualitative research, indepth interviews were conducted and later coded and categorized, based on the categories of analysis, namely family background, prisonization and psychological effects. This process favors the transferability of results, based on the in-depth description of the phenomenon in its context (Martínez-Salgado, 2012) In consequence the research process enabled the identification of signs and symptoms that remained in the subjects of research beyond all adaptation processes, and it is because of this characteristic that such symptomatology may not be explained by the theories regarding the psychological effects as a consequence of internment, that is to say, prisonization itself, as they derive from a process of adaptation and assimilation of the culture in prison. In this regard, this research arguments the relevance of the involvement of the family group in the penitentiary processes, seeking to have a positive impact on the functioning of inmates in prison and also on their resocialization and later on their life in freedom. Therefore, it is necessary to acknowledge that the contact with the closest support group becomes an essential resource that, properly included in the support process for the inmate, leverages the development of prosocial competences, whilst reestablishing the self-image and preserving the family image create in persons deprived of liberty a commitment with resocialization, besides being the bridge that keeps them anchored to the outside world. This approach promotes the reformulation of the current understanding of the effects associated to the prisonization as immanent status of imprisonment; this idea is based on the fact that the particular conditions of inmates (Echeverri, 2010) and the conditions of the institutional context of prison (Crespo, 2017), may not be assessed or intervened in isolation, while, as evidenced on the research herein, a person that is deprived of liberty experiences a series of physical and psychical impacts that are beyond the normalizing processes of adaptation, becoming problems that when transcending the prison premises, need to be understood as a public policy matter. Introduction The therapeutic relationship is not always functional in clinical practice due to various factors, such as lack of time, lack of job motivation, exhaustion and rejection towards the person cared for. Aim The aim of this study is to illustrate to professionals the needs of the persons they care for and how they see the world. Method The aim was achieved through the development of a lived experience narrative. Results This lived experience narrative describes the experience of a mental health nurse since her first psychotic symptoms and her perceptions of the therapeutic relationship with mental health staff in her trajectory from the first psychiatric appointment until her last contact with the community mental health services. Discussion This narrative suggests that mental health professionals are sometimes far from discovering what service users are feeling and their precise needs. This highlights the need to humanize mental healthcare. Sin financiación 2.720 Q1 JCR 2021 0.552 Q2 SJR 2021 No data IDR 2021 UEV

BackgroundThe pandemic caused by a coronavirus (COVID-19) has shocked healthcare systems worldwide. However, the psychological stressors remain unclear. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of a major pandemic on healthcare workers. We hypothesized that exposure to the virus would be the primary cause of psychological stress perceived by healthcare workers.MethodsA national cross-sectional study conducted via an online questionnaire was distributed between April 9 and April 19, 2020 with a non-probabilistic sample technique. A structural equation model (SEM) was built with the variable “exposure to the virus” and the Psychological Stress and Adaptation at work Score (PSAS). “Exposure to the virus” was defined as the combined factors of ‘personal-sphere’, “work-related stress” and “hospital characteristics.” A generalized linear model (GLM) was also tested.ResultsA total of 2,197 participants filled in the questionnaire and were analyzed. The exploratory factor analysis showed statistically significant variables related to the personal-sphere, work-related stress and the hospital’s characteristics, although the confirmatory factor analysis showed only the work-related stress factors to be significant. The GLM showed that personal-sphere-related variables (P < .001), stress at work (P < 0.001) and age (P < 0.001) were statistically significant.ConclusionPhysical exposure to the virus is an essential factor that contributes to the psychological impact perceived during the pandemic by healthcare professionals. A combination of personal-sphere variables, work-related stress and hospital characteristics is a significant factor correlating with the degree of stress measured by PSAS, a new and fast instrument to assess stress in healthcare workers.

Background Schizophrenia is a complex disorder involving deficits in both cognitive and emotional processes. Specifically, a marked deficit in cognitive control has been found, which seems to increase when dealing with emotional information. Aims With the aim of exploring the possible common links behind cognitive and emotional deficits, two versions of the emotional Stroop task were administered. Method In the cognitive-emotional task, participants had to name the ink colour (while ignoring the meaning) of emotional words. In contrast, the emotional-emotional task consisted of emotional words superimposed on emotional faces, and the participants had to indicate the emotional valence of the faces. Fifty-eight participants (29 in-patients diagnosed with schizophrenia and 29 controls) took part in the study. Results Patients and controls showed similar response times in the cognitive-emotional task; however, patients were significantly slower than controls in the emotional-emotional task. This result supports the idea that patients show a more pronounced impairment in conflict modulation with emotional content. Besides, no significant correlations between the tasks and positive or negative symptoms were found. This would indicate that deficits are relatively independent of the clinical status of patients. However, a significant correlation between the emotional-emotional task and cognitive symptoms was found. Conclusions These findings suggest a restricted capacity of patients with schizophrenia to deal with the attentional demands arising from emotional stimuli.

Abstract In order to explain the influence of psychosocial factors in people with self-reported bruxism, an explanatory model was evaluated by analyzing the stress-emotion-handling process based on the transactional stress theory. One hundred and twenty eight people, who self-reported symptoms of bruxism, participated in this study. The following psychological variables were evaluated using self-administered questionnaires of adequate validity and reliability: perceived stress, anxiety, inadequate self-critical coping and social withdrawal, and trait neuroticism. The results of the final structural model show adequate Goodness-of-fit indexes and suggest that, within this group of people, coping as a cognitive and behavioral resource has an influence on the cognitive appraisal of the stressor. In addition, the muscle-mandibular activity of bruxism is interpreted as a physical response to psychological stress. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Since Spanish Government implemented the first measures to advise women on their labour and social rights and also to assist victims of gender violence, in 1984, practically all efforts drawn up have It includes raising the awareness of the media to eradicate the stereotypes with which the image of women is conformed. From the interaction of High School students with their favourite TV series, such as La que se avecina, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother or MyHyV, among the most watched, three things can be seen. Results. That teenagers are not bothered by the stereotypes that undermine gender equality present in these TV series; that they have incorporated into their daily lives the funny phrases and catch phrases that are repeated in the series by characters that can be described as sexist, and that these girls and boys suffer in their immediate environment a macho ideology in line with the scenes that their favourite characters have often starred their favourite characters.

- Abstract
The main objective of this bibliographic review is to analyze the benefits on the physical condition and psychological effects that physical activity produces in hypertensive elderly people, through a bibliographic review. In this way, I sought to investigate how physical activity helps to improve the physical condition of the hypertensive older adult as well as improve their mental health, which will allow the adult to carry out activities of daily living independently, thus improving your quality of life. For this review, articles in Spanish published between January 2000 and August 2020 were included. The bibliographic search was carried out in the following databases: Medline Plus, Scielo, Dialnet, and Google Scholar and the following keywords were used "activity physical”, “arterial hypertension”, “elderly” and “psychological effects”. The study design is a bibliographic review. A total of 200 articles were found, of which 17 articles met the inclusion criteria and were selected for the preparation of this bibliographic review. As results of this research, it was found that physical activity is very beneficial, since it reduces blood pressure values, thus reducing the risk of mortality, improves physical condition with respect to strength, flexibility, aerobic capacity, and balance, and psychologically, physical activity reduces depression and sleep problems. The type of activity recommended for older adults with arterial hypertension is aerobic, such as: walking, running, swimming, cycling, among others, which should be practiced at a moderate intensity between 40-60% of VO2 max, with a frequency of 3-4 times a week for 30-60 min daily.

The current study was conducted to adapt the Grief and Meaning Reconstruction Inventory (GMRI) into Spanish and to establish its psychometric properties in a group of 202 mourners seeking treatment in Spain. A confirmatory factor analysis established that the Spanish GMRI yielded eight factors, displaying strong reliability and convergent validity, through the scale’s inverse correlation with the Inventory of Complicated Grief and various measures of psychological distress, explaining a 48% of the variance of the former measure. A network analysis suggested that sense-making could play a central role in meaning-making during bereavement. The healthcare providers caring for children with life-threatening illnesses experience considerable compassion fatigue. The purpose of this study was to describe the feelings and emotions of professionals working in an interdisciplinary pediatric palliative home care team. A qualitative case study was conducted, comprising 18 participants. A purposeful sampling technique approach was used including the home-based interdisciplinary pediatric palliative team. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and researchers’ field notes. A thematic analysis was performed. Two themes emerged: (a) changing life for the better, which described how professionals value life more and helping children and families provides compassion satisfaction, which is comforting and explains their dedication to care; (b) adverse effects of work highlighted the emotional burden of caring for children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses, which can affect their job satisfaction and may lead to burnout, showing how experiencing in-hospital child deaths with suffering leads professionals to develop an interest in specializing in pediatric palliative care. Our study provides information on possible causes of emotional distress in professionals caring for children with life-threatening illnesses and highlights strategies that can help them to reduce their distress. - Abstract
The purpose of the present systematic review is to identify the psychosocial effects of practicing Yoga, namely, the relation between yoga practice and essential constructs of positive psychology supposedly influenced by the practice, namely, resilience, mental toughness, core self-evaluations, mindfulness, optimism, life satisfaction, happiness, psychological and spiritual well-being. Meta-analyses, systematic reviews and empirical articles were examined on different databases, published in Portuguese and English, from 2000 to 2014. The synthesis of the studies suggests that Yoga has positive psychosocial effects on its practitioners. All summarized studies, carried out on samples of different features, with the practice of different styles and differentiated interventions, indicate that Yoga promotes positive effects at psychosocial level, contributing to an effective improvement of different life competencies and well-being, and consequently of the quality of life of those who practice it.
