Two known free-living marine nematodes, Monoposihioides “ l y r i Wieser and Hopper, 1967 and Monoposthia hexalaia Chitwood. 1936 are redescribed from sediments in Si. Andrew Bay and Lake Powell, Bay County,Florida.U.S.A. One new speciesoffree-living marinenematode. Monoposihia baxterin. sp.. is described from nonvegelated sediments in St Andrew Bay, Bay County, Florida. M. baxteri n. sp. differs from the other members of the genus in the shape of the gubernaculum which is more similar to that of the species of Monoposthioides than that of Monoposthia.

The genus Hahiaimus is reviewd and divided inb four groups based on characters of the male. Characters used to separate the groups of males include presence or absence of caudal alae and the presence or absence of a precloacal sensillum and/or pore. Ten new species are described from St. Andrew Bay. Bay County, Florida, and H. gerlachi n. sp. is proposed for H.gmcilk sensu GerIach, 1967. New species from St. Andrew Bay are H . thiassinw, N. terjuni, H. +mkz H. bulbomudntus, H . varkbilk, H . paracon", H. mrican l rs . H.floridanus, H . brimi, and H. purafletcheri. Keys to the species of each group are provided based on characters of the male. A key to the females of the genus is also provided.

A description is given of the cutaneous lesions associated with Filaria taxideae Keppner, 1970 infections in badgers, Taxidea taxus (Schreber, 1778), from Wyoming. Female F. taxideae migrated into the dermis of the host and deposited their ova beneath the epidermis. Lesions developed gradually around the groups of ova, and no haemorrhagic lesions were observed on gross examination. First-stage larvae were observed at the periphery of developing and healed lesions along with embryonated ova. A comparison is made with the formation of the cutaneous lesions associated with the closely related Parafilaria Yorke and Maplestone, 1926.

Oncholaimoides elongatus is redescribed from specimens collected from subtidal, shallow-water sediments from the Gulf of Mexico, Bay County, Florida. The original description of this species was based on a single male specimen from the Gulf of Mexico, Baldwin County, Alabama. Descriptions of Oncholaimoides rugosus and Oncholaimoides striatus from subtidal sediments of St. Andrew Bay, Bay County, Florida are given. A key to the species of Oncholaimoides is provided.

This is an illustrated key to 55 genera of free-living marine nematodes of the superfamily Chromadoroidea, exclusive of the Chromadoridae, (Nematoda: Chromadorida: Chromadorina). Illustrations are almost all limited to the heads and caudal regions of the included genera. Specific anatomical features are designated to facilitate use of the key. Five new species of free-living marine nematodes in the order Araeolaimida and one new species in the order Enoplida are described from non-vegetated subtidal and beach sediments in St. Andrew Bay and Lake Powell, Bay County, Florida, U.S.A. Plectolaimus supplementus n. sp. differs from the similar Plectolaimus magdalenae in the presence of tooth-like structures in the esophagus, longer spicules, and a greater number of pre-anal supplements. The males of Paraphanolaimus bayensis n. sp. differ from all other males in the genus in the shape of the gubernaculum and in the presence of numerous large cup-shaped pre-anal supplements as well as tubular supplements. Females of P. bayensis n. sp. can be differentiated from the other females in the genus by the presence of midventral pores. Odontophora brevispicula n. sp. differs from the only other member of the genus having short straight spicules (Odontophora mercurialis) in the shape of the spicules and gubernaculum. The males of Odontophora carrolli n. sp. and 0. articulata n. sp. differ from the males of other members of the genus in the presence of large and distinct pre-anal supplements. They differ from one another in the shape of the pre-anal supplements and in the shape of the gubernaculum. Bathylaimus longicorpus n. sp. differs from the other members of the genus having teeth in the stoma in the number and arrangement of the teeth. Free-living marine nematodes were collected from various sites in two estuaries in Bay County, Florida from 1981 to 1986; these sites were located in St. Andrew Bay and Lake Powell. St. Andrew Bay is part of a larger estuarine system on the north coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The system is open to the Gulf through two passes. Lake Powell is a small estuary just west of the St. Andrew Bay system. It is connected to the Gulf of Mexico by a narrow, shallow, meandering inlet that periodically closes and isolates the lake from the Gulf of Mexico. Collection sites in both estuaries were located in non-vegetated subtidal areas and non-vegetated sites immediately above mean high tide level. Sediments at the sites consisted of fine to medium sand with varying degrees of silt and organic material. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sediment samples were obtained with a 9-cm diameter core sampler to a depth of 4-10 cm, depending on the site. Nematodes were extracted by repeated washing of the sediment in water from the site, allowing the heavier particles to settle for 15 sec and decanting the supernatant water and suspended material 1I thank Dr. W. The suspended material from four washings was allowed to settle for 15-20 min and the supernatant water was decanted. Nematodes were removed alive from the remaining sediment, fixed in hot 4% formalin in seawater or hot alcohol-formalin-acetic acid for 24 h, cleared in glycerine, and mounted in anhydrous glycerine. Measurements were made with a calibrated ocular micrometer. All measurements are given in Aum unless otherwise stated, and the mean is followed by the range in parentheses. Spicular lengths are given as the chord of the spicular arc. The taxonomic heirarchy followed is that of Gerlach & Riemann (1974).

The development of Spinitectus micracanthus is described in the intermediate host, Hexagenia sp. (Insecta: Ephemeroptera), and in the definitive host, Lepomis macrochirus. Larval development occurs primarily in the abdominal muscles of Hexagenia sp., and encysted, third-stage larvae were present in the muscles 20 days postinfection. Males with sperm in the reproductive tract were recovered from the intestine of the definitive host 26 days postinfection, and females containing eggs were recovered from the intestine 36 days postinfection of the definitive host. Infective larvae of S. micracanthus were compared with larvae of S. gracilis obtained from naturally infected Hexagenia sp.
