- Abstract
Aging presents a key challenge, and the care sector is an emergent and strategic field, with considerable potential for job creation in response to rapidly growing social demands. As this sector expands, it necessitates a change in the model, which must be supported by community services. Here, the social economy has an opportunity for development. Traditionally, jobs in the care sector have typically involved outsourcing family care and have been characterized by low social value, job insecurity, and limited career prospects, which reduces the sector's attractiveness. In Asturias, the sector comprises highly feminized companies, where women confront both the constraints inherent in the sector, including its location in rural areas, and the typical gender disparities. The purpose of this study is to examine the position of social economy firms and entities in Asturias that offer care-related services from a global perspective enhanced by a gender viewpoint. To do this, a mixed, quantitative methodology is used, which characterizes the participation of Social Economy's companies in the services sector in the region, and a qualitative analysis through in-depth interviews and discussion groups were conducted with associations representing both care demand and supply, as well as experts in social services and innovation. The analysis results indicate that women play a crucial role in transitioning to the community model, and promoting actions is necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The changes and diversity in the demographic profile of the Spanish workforce have sparked a great deal of interest, particularly in human resource management. Examining the intricate balance that individuals and organisations strike between family, gender, and work responsibilities becomes particularly crucial, especially in the context of families with children. The conflict between work and family may originate in either domain. Thus, the direction of the conflict becomes relevant at both a personal and organisational level, to understand whether work interferes with family (WFC), or family interferes with work (FWC). However, in social economy organisations these conflicts might be exhibited differently, given how these types of organisations tend to be more horizontal, social, feminine, and participative. This means that the conflict between family and work could be less harmful. With this in mind, our goal was to analyse whether children, based on their age, influence work-family conflict, and to assess any gender differences. Results revealed some differences regarding the age of children in the work-family and family-work conflict between women and men. Practical and theoretical implications are discussed throughout the paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the entrepreneurial intentions of women in the Social Economy (SE) in Galicia, focusing on the key factors for closing the gender gap in entrepreneurship and developing business models that respond to women's needs and preferences. Based on data from the GEM-Galicia survey, it analyses the motivations, barriers, and specific dynamics of female entrepreneurship in the context of the SE. The study reveals a significant lack of knowledge of these organisational models, together with difficulties of financing and bureaucracy. The results highlight the urgent need to improve education and knowledge about SE among women and to implement supportive public policies tailored to their needs. In addition, the promotion of collaborative business models with social impact is suggested. Finally, it is concluded that specific policies, including appropriate counselling and training, can foster a more equitable environment and favour people-centred business development.

This article presents the reconstruction and analysis of the territorial work of Cooperativa La Comunitaria in the rural town of Santa Isabel (province of La Pampa), and more precisely, the opening of a balanced feed plant and the creation of an alternative corn marketing circuit. From the perspective of local development, the aim is to analyze the results of La Comunitaria's intervention in the territory at a productive level and the degree of replicability this project can have in other rural territories. To do this, we will recover the historical-political background of La Comunitaria at the local level, we will investigate the articulations that the organization establishes with other actors and its power construction strategies. On the other hand, we will study the organizational and economic features and the experiences of participation in the productive project. This is a qualitative work, which includes field records (both in-person and virtual) and a transdisciplinary theoretical approach. It is expected to make a contribution to the field of studies of public policies linked to local development, the social economy, as well as rural studies in general. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CONSERVATION of natural resources , *CONSCIOUSNESS raising , *ECONOMIC models , *NONPROFIT sector , *SUSTAINABILITY , *SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between social economy and sustainability, highlighting how the current economic model has generated negative impacts on the environment and social inequality. It is mentioned that social economy and sustainable development have emerged as alternative proposals to address these issues. The article focuses on social economy initiatives in rural organizations and highlights that these not only benefit the population but also nature, while questioning the current economic model. The concept of sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are mentioned as international frameworks to promote environmental and social sustainability. The article presents the experience of the organization "Ecosta Yutu Cuii Sociedad de Solidaridad Social" on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico, which focuses on the conservation of natural resources and community development through sustainable projects. They have established links with government institutions, universities, and non-governmental organizations to promote the transition to agroecological practices. Although they have faced difficulties, they have managed to raise environmental awareness and improve food security in communities. [Extracted from the article]

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global priority in terms of commitment to the responsible development of society. This paper focuses on beekeeping as a strategic sector of the Argentine economy due to its important socio-economic and environmental impacts. The objective of this research is to analyze the practices of beekeeping entities in their alignment with the achievement of the SDGs (with a focus on SDGs 5, 8, 9, 12 and 17), paying special attention to the differential contribution of companies with cooperative formula. It focuses on actions related to work organization, production, innovation and market insertion. To this end, we used variable significance analysis for 2x2 matrices and multivariate factor analysis of multiple correspondences. The results obtained show that there is a positive alignment between the practices of beekeeping sector entities and SDG 5, SDG 12 and SDG 17, with a differential and positive trend for organizations with a cooperative formula. However, the results also show the future challenges faced by the sector, especially with regard to SDGs 8 and 9. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An important yet barely explored line of research lies in elucidating how to enhance the critical performativity of Critical Management Studies (CMS) from higher education institutions. To address this question, in this article we present a case study of the Social Economy Laboratory (LAB_ES), a space created at the University of Zaragoza for the university community to experiment with initiatives and projects organized around the principles and values of the Social Economy. Specifically, the article identifies and delves into three key lines of action to promote the critical performativity of CMS from higher education spaces: (i) raising awareness among the university community of the existence of alternative forms of organization and management that are more democratic, humanistic, emancipatory, and socially responsible; (ii) developing closer collaboration between the university community and other stakeholders to collectively generate relevant and useful knowledge for social transformation; and (iii) promoting the engagement of students in alternative organization and management projects. In a context of under-representation of the Social Economy in the official curricula and research structures of Spanish higher education institutions, the article also draws some practical implications aimed at promoting training, dissemination and consultancy on Social Economy from spaces created within the boundaries of the university, but organized outside its institutional and bureaucratic rigidity. This article presents the results of a case study about the Red de Intercambios time bank in Valencia (Spain) in order to analyze the effects that this type of initiatives have on community strengthening. The data have been obtained from methodological triangulation. On the one hand, we have developed qualitative techniques such as participant observation and in-depth interviews with key agents. On the other hand, we have used also quantitative technique though the exploitation of databases to obtain the socio-structural profile of the time bank members. Finally, we have carried out a structured survey about self-perception of the time bank members in relation to their experience in participation within the time bank. The results show that the members coincide in valuing the time bank more for its quality as a space for social participation than as a mechanism for redistributing their own time. In short, it is concluded that time banks contribute to community empowerment as they provide a framework for the development of skills, reciprocity, mutual support and satisfaction of needs outside the market.

NONPROFIT sector , *GOVERNMENT policy , *SOCIAL policy - Abstract
Public policies to promote the social economy (Morandeira, 2013) have been progressively reformulated in the Basque Country over the last five years, moving from a centralized model based on direct economic aid to one that seeks to incorporate a more holistic, ecosystemic and local approach. In the path of the main studies that collect these regulatory changes at the state level (Chaves, 2019; Fajardo, 2019; Chaves et al., 2020), in this paper address the main changes detected in the implementation of public action in the Basque Country. In this new, more territorialized and ecosystemic scheme, to the implementation of all public policy tools, both soft and hard (Chaves, 2009), organizational elements are added that tend towards models based on the co-construction of public policies (Vaillancourt, 2008). A proposal for public intervention is presented in which a model is defined with measures in collaboration with social economy entities to TRANSFORM the local development framework, the so-called "transformative public intervention". Finally, based on this third intervention model proposal, "Hernani Burujabe" is presented as a pioneering experience in the Basque Country. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RURAL tourism , *TOURISM , *REGIONAL development , *RURAL development , *COVID-19 pandemic , *ECONOMIC activity , *VOLCANOES , *ECOTOURISM , *NONPROFIT sector - Abstract
Objective: To identify the role that the woman-tourism pairing has played in marketing and local development during the health contingency. Methodology: This is qualitative research of an exploratory-descriptive nature in which the population under study was selected by voluntary non-probabilistic sampling and the comprehensive analysis is based on the principles of the LEADER Rural Development Initiative. Results: Evidence is provided that, in the Local Action Groups associated with rural tourism, the disaggregation of economic activities allowed the areas that operated in a pandemic to meet the needs of those that did not open, thus generating a multifunctional benefit; In addition, the linkage and publicprivate collaboration through multisectoral alliances established in the initiatives of the development projects, contributed to the maintenance of ecotourism services and local commerce, 38% of women participated in decision-making and in the offer of tourist services, agricultural and agro-industrial products, handicrafts and typical dishes. Limitations: Given the sanitary measures established by the Mexican Secretary of Health, it was not possible to include all the women who participate in tourist activities in the Volcanoes Region. Conclusions: The implemented scalability strategies have strengthened the socioeconomic fabric in the region and promoted local development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SOCIAL impact assessment , *DATA privacy , *DATA management , *LABORATORY management , *NONPROFIT sector - Abstract
The explosion of information and the open access movement have posed significant challenges in data management for laboratories and research groups. The Laboratory of Studies and Research in Social Economy (Laboratório de Estudos e Pesquisas em Economia Social - LEPES) at the University of São Paulo focuses on developing research and impact assessments of social policies in Brazil, generating a substantial amount of research data. However, storing this data on a server with restricted access has led to various issues, including difficulties in accessing data, lack of standardization, security concerns, and version management problems. To address these challenges, this work aims to propose a comprehensive data management solution for LEPES. The proposal encompasses multiple actions, such as education, expertise, curation, indexing, and data privacy, all integrated into an open repository for research data. The primary objective is to facilitate data storage and enable public access, promoting data sharing. The approach taken in this study is an applied research design that utilizes the case study as a method. Additionally, the study draws support from relevant bibliographical and documentary literature. The proposal's innovation lies in its meticulous alignment of data management principles within a laboratory that has a direct impact on Brazilian educational public policies. As for the results, the management group outlines the pathways they followed to ensure secure sharing of research data, while adhering to the existing legal framework. Furthermore, the proposed solution not only benefits LEPES but also offers valuable insights for other groups facing similar data management challenges. Overall, this research endeavours to create a robust and practical data management framework that facilitates safe data sharing, fosters collaboration, and contributes significantly to the advancement of social policy research in Brazil. CIRCULAR economy , *PUBLIC administration , *FEDERAL government , *HARD currencies , *SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
We live in a planet with finite resources and a limited availability of absorbing residues. Thus, Spain -as well as the rest of the countries-faces the inevitable challenge of moving towards a more circular and sustainable economy. The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the European Green Deal set this course. This is also the aim of the strategy 2030 Circular Spain. But, given the colossal dimension of this ecological transition, it is essential that the Spanish central Government seeks new -and unexplored- allies, such as the "social currencies", which are alternative economic experiences that try to stimulate the local economy and that can also effectively help to reduce the environmental footprint of their users. In this research we confirm that there are potential synergies between social currencies and the circular economy, but social currencies are not taken into account in the strategy 2030 Circular Spain. This situation is due to the lack of awareness about social currencies among the different public administrations, as well as the lack of social demand in favour of social currencies, the high heterogeneity of these currencies, the lack of coordination among them, and the lack of confidence of public administrations in alternative economical experiences. LITERATURE reviews , *NONPROFIT sector , *SUCCESS - Abstract
This paper analyses the governance of territorial development, arguing that the social economy and cooperativism represent an effective way of managing these processes. A literature review is first carried out to identify the main variables characterising territorial governance. The synergies emerging between cooperativism and territorial development are then analysed, along with the role played by the social economy in responding to complex processes of territorial governance. Finally, the case study of Bonares, a municipality in Andalusia (Spain) that encourages territorial development by participating in a second-degree cooperative, will be studied. The paper concludes that the variables identified in the literature review as influencing the success of territorial governance processes are apparent in the cooperativist approach to governance in the municipality. The economic repercussions of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the economic fabric have been very significant, and it is still to be expected that a large part of them will continue to have an impact for some time to come. Although the effects have so far been partially mitigated through counter-cyclical policies - especially direct aid lines and subsidies - the negative effects have spread throughout the productive fabric. The Social Economy has not been immune to this reality and has also been affected, although at the same time it has shown a significant capacity for resilience, in line with what has been observed in previous crises. The aim of this article is to analyse and assess the different actions that can be taken in relation to the Social Economy to promote a speedy economic recovery, both at a general level and in the particular case of the Autonomous Community of Galicia. The aim of this paper is to investigate whether social innovation has taken root in the last two decades in the social economy sector of the Principality of Asturias (Spain) as a key enterprise development factor in the current post-crisis environment derived from successive financial, health and geopolitical crises. For this, it is conceptually defined, firstly, what is understood by social innovation and its basic dimensions, reflecting on the extent to which the social economy sector can be considered as socially innovative. After that, the methodology and the main results of a study carried out through a review of specialized literature and a qualitative analysis through in-depth interviews with a sample of 21 heads of social enterprise, institutions or corporate entities linked to the sector in Asturias are presented. These results show how, indeed, the principles of social innovation are beginning to be adopted by the sector, albeit in an incipient way as a consequence of different weaknesses associated with its degree of entrepreneurship, organizational structure and development strategy. The paper ends by suggesting a series of recommendations that could contribute to the promotion of the sector as a whole and of the enterprises that make it up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
