We report the results of the CPLEAR experiment on CP-, T-, and CPT-symmetries in the neutral kaon system. CP-violation parameters are given for the K-0, (K) over bar(0) --> 2 pi, 3 pi decay channels. For the first time, T-violation is measured by a direct method using semileptonic decays. The CPT symmetry is tested through the parameters Im(delta) with a precision of 10(-5) and Re(delta) with a precision of a few 10(-4). With these two measurements, the difference in mass and width of K-0 and (K) over bar(0) are bound to within 10(-18) GeV. In the limit of CPT invariance in the neutral kaon decays, the K-0 and (K) over bar(0) masses are equal within 10(-19) GeV. Nuclear Physics A

We have measured the cross section for inverse muon decay in the CERN neutrino wide band beam. From 4808 events observed in the CHARM II detector we derived for the Born term of the asymptotic cross section slope the result (18.16±1.36) × 10 −42 cm 2 GeV −1 . This cross section is in good agreement with the standard model prediction and allows to constrain the scalar coupling of the electron and muon to their neutrinos to | g LL S | 2

We report on the first observation of neutrino induced production of muon pairs in the electromagnetic field of a nucleus. The data has been obtained using the CHARM II detector exposed to the CERN wideband neutrino and antineutrino beams. A clear signal of 55 ± 16 events is seen in a sample of dimuons of opposite charge without visible recoil at the vertex. The cross section is determined and found to be in agreement with the standard model prediction.

- Abstract
The CPLEAR experiment at CERN uses time-dependent decay-rate asymmetries between K-0 and (K) over bar(0) to measure eta(+-). The analysis and the systematic errors are discussed. The preliminary results from all our data are phi(+-) = 43.5 degrees +/- 0.5(stat)degrees +/- 0.5(syst)+/-0.4(Delta m) and \eta(+-)\ = (2.316 +/- 0.025(stat) +/- 0.028(syst) +/- 0.009(tau S)) x 10(-3). The dominant part in the systematic error of phi(+-) is due to the regeneration correction. A dedicated experiment was performed to reduce this error considerably. Nuclear Physics B

- Abstract
The CPLEAR experiment measured time-dependent decay-rate asymmetries of K-0 and (K) over bar(0) decaying to pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) in order to study the interference between the decay amplitudes of K-S(0) - either CP-violating or CP-conserving - and the CP-conserving K-L(0) decay amplitude. From the analysis of the complete data set we find for the CP-violating parameter eta(+-0), Re((+-0)) = (-2 +/- 7 stat. (+4)(-1) syst.) x 10(-3), Im(eta(+-0)) = (-2 +/- 9 stat. (+2)(-1) syst.) x 10(-3) and for the CP-conserving parameter lambda, Re(lambda) = (+28 +/- 7 stat. +/-3 syst.) x 10(-3), Im(lambda) = (-10 +/- 8 stat. +/- 2 syst.) x 10(-3). The CPLEAR experiment uses tagged K-0 and (K) over bar(0) produced in p (p) over bar annihilation at rest to measure CP-, T- and CPT-violation parameters in the neutral kaon system. The results of these measurements and some implications are reported.

A measurement of the branching ratio for K-s --> e(+)e(-) decay was performed with the CPLEAR detector at LEAR. Full event reconstruction together with calorimeter e/pi separation allowed for powerful background rejection and high signal acceptance. Analysis of data taken up to 1994 yields the result: Br(K-s --> e(+)e(-)) < 4.2.10(-7) (90% CL). Nuclear Physics B

- Abstract
The ratio R between the branching fractions of (p) over bar p –> KSKS and (p) over bar p –> KSKL for antiprotons annihilating at rest in gaseous hydrogen at 27 bar pressure was measured with the CPLEAR detector to be R(27 bar) = 0.037 +/- 0.002. The fraction of P-wave annihilation at rest at this target density was deduced to be 0.45 +/- 0.06. A value of R was also measured at 15 bar, with less statistics, yielding R(15 bar) = 0.041 +/- 0.009. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

The interference between CP-conserving $\ks$ and $\kl \rightarrow \threepi$ decay amplitudes was observed by studying the decay rate asymmetries between initial $\ko$ and $\kob$ separately for the phase space regions $E_{\mbox{\rm \scriptsize CM}}(\pi^+)> E_{\mbox{\rm \scriptsize CM}}(\pi^-)$ and $E_{\mbox{\rm \scriptsize CM}}(\pi^+)< E_{\mbox{\rm \scriptsize CM}}(\pi^-)$. For the parameter $\lambda$ we found $\mbox{\rm Re}(\lambda )=0.036\pm0.010(\mbox{\rm stat.}) ^{+0.002}_{-0.003} (\mbox{\rm syst.)}$ and $\mbox{Im}(\lambda)$ consistent with zero, leading for the CP-conserving $\ks \rightarrow \threepi$ decay, to a branching ratio $\mbox{\rm B} = \left[4.1 ^{+2.5}_{-1.9 } (\mbox{\rm stat.}) ^{+0.5} _{-0.6} (\mbox{\rm syst.)}\right] \times 10^{-7}$.

- Abstract
{The time-dependent rate asymmetry of initial K-0 and (K) over bar(0) decaying into pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) CP-violating amplitude of the K-S --> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) decay. For the real and the imaginary parts of eta(+-0), we find Re(eta(+-0)) = (6 +/- 13(stat.) +/- 1(syst.)) x 10(-3) and Im(eta(+-0)) = (-2 +/- 18(stat.) +/- 3(syst.)) x 10(-3) which correspond to \textbackslash{}eta(+-0)\textbackslash{} < 0.037 with 90\% CL.}

- Abstract
The CPLEAR collaboration has constructed a detector at CERN for an extensive programme of CP-, T- and CPT-symmetry studies using K-0 and produced by the annihilation of in a hydrogen gas target. The K-0 and are identified by their companion products of the annihilation K(+/-)pi(-/+) which are tracked with multiwire proportional chambers, drift chambers and streamer tubes. Particle identification is carried out with a liquid Cherenkov detector for fast separation of pions and kaons and with scintillators which allow the measurement of time of flight and energy loss. Photons are measured with a lead/gas sampling electromagnetic calorimeter. The required antiproton annihilation modes are selected by fast online processors using the tracking chamber and particle identification information. All the detectors are mounted in a 0.44 T uniform field of an axial solenoid of diameter 2 m and length 3.6 m to form a magnetic spectrometer capable of full on-line reconstruction and selection of events. The design, operating parameters and performance of the subdetectors are described. - Abstract
CP violation has been observed as a time-dependent rate asymmetry between the decays --> pi(0) pi(0) and K-0 --> pi(0) pi(0), where the neutral kaons are produced with definite and individually known strangeness in --> K(+)pi(-) or --> K(0)K(-)pi(+). A special technique for the data analysis has been developed. The values obtained for phi(00) and \eta(00)\ are in agreement with those of previous measurements of CP violation. - Abstract
The interference between CP-conserving K-S and K-L –> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) decay amplitudes was observed by studying the decay rate asymmetries between initial K-0 and (K) over bar(0) separately for the phase space regions E(CM)(pi(+)) > E(CM)(pi(-)) and E(CM)(pi(+)) < E(CM)(pi(-)) For the parameter lambda we found Re(lambda) = 0.036 +/- 0.010(stat.)(-0.003)(+0.002)(syst.) and Im(lambda) consistent with zero, leading to a branching ratio B = [4.1(-1.9)(+2.5)(stat.)(-0.6)(+0.5)(syst.)] x 10(-7) for the CP-conserving K-S –> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) decay.

Using data taken between 1900 and mid 1994, precise measurements of η(+ -) phi(+ -) and Delta m are reported. The comparison of phi(+ -) with the superweak phase gives one of the most sensitive tests of CPT invariance and leads to a new limit on the K-0-(K-0) over bar mass difference.

The essential characteristics of the neutral kaon system and the way CP, T, and possible CPT violations may be observed in it are recalled. The principle of the CPLEAH experiment is presented CPLEAH experimental results in the semi-leptonic decay channels are given and discussed. It is shown, in particular, that direct. time reversal invariance violation will be experimentally observed for the first time.

The CPLEAR experiment at CERN studies the CP, T and CPT symmetries in the neutral-kaon system by measuring the rate asymmetries between the decays of initially pure K-0 and (K-0) over bar states. - Abstract
{CP violation has been observed as a time-dependent rate asymmetry between the decays --> pi(0) pi(0) and K-0 --> pi(0) pi(0), where the neutral kaons are produced with definite and individually known strangeness in --> K(+)pi(-) or --> K(0)K(-)pi(+). A special technique for the data analysis has been developed. The values obtained for phi(00) and \textbackslash{}eta(00)\textbackslash{} are in agreement with those of previous measurements of CP violation.}

The CPLEAR experiment at CERN studies CP, T, and CPT symmetries in the neutral-kaon system by measuring the time-dependent decay rate asymmetries of initially pure K-0 and states. Results on eta(+-), eta(+-0), Delta m, and x are reported. as well as on the first direct test of T violation and CPT invariance in K-0- oscillations.
