Significant cuts to the collections budget and a fire in the main library at Kansas State University transitioned the Libraries toward an increased focus upon electronic resources management. As electronic resource discovery continues to be hampered by market competition between Ex Libris and EBSCO library vendors, difficulties were identified in obtaining accurate usage statistics for resource renewal reviews, particularly EBSCO products. Kansas State University Libraries use the ALMA URM in combination with Primo discovery service, which experiences known resolver complications when paired with EBSCO resources. Technical services librarians and information technology staff tested several workarounds, but the question remains whether any proposed resolutions can be truly effective in avoiding collection usage biases and analytical discrepancies, resulting from exclusive indexing. Crunching the numbers, monetarily and analytically, the Ex Libris and EBSCO rivalry is an onerous battle on the budget and resource renewal process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study was designed to give a bibliometric overview of research productivity in alcohol and substance use prevention in Africa as a response to international efforts to prevent alcohol and substance use. Methods: Original research articles authored or coauthored by investigators from African countries on alcohol and substance use prevention during the period of 2008-2018 were retrieved from Web of Science (WoS), EBSCOhost, and PubMed and reviewed. Keywords related to alcohol and substance use were used to retrieve relevant literature. Results: Our search returned 3600 hits, with 34 articles retained. Included articles were conducted in 12 countries across the five regions in Africa (Central, East, North, South, and West) and spreading over 11 years, 2008-2018. The annual published articles showed a significant rise from 2008 to 2018 with South Africa ranked number one, with a total of 9 (31%) published articles followed by Kenya 4 (13.8%). Bronwyn Myers from South Africa and Atwoli et al. from Kenya were the most prolific authors. Age and gender were the most reported risk factors in the selected studies. The most active institutions in alcohol and substance use prevention research are The Medical Research Council of South Africa, Stellenbosch University, and Moi University. Conclusions: There were few collaborations among Africans themselves, yet these collaborations would enhance future alcohol and substance use prevention research productivity. Currently, a broad spectrum of substance use prevention interventions has been implemented throughout the African continent, ranging from individual to community-based interventions. The research aims to comprehend the knowledge and utilization of electronic journal (Proquest, Science Direct, EBSCOhost, dan Cab Direct) subscribed by library of Institut Pertanian Bogor that have been performed by students as reference source in thesis writing, and obstacles faced while looking for the information. The research applies descriptive research with quantitative approach. Based on the data acquired: (1) The students’ knowledge toward electronic journal subscribed is adequately high. 87,9% students realize existence of electronic journal service, 81,8% reference resource uses electronic media, and 49,5% utilizes electronic journal; (2) The electronic journal utilization level is 86,2% which utilizes electronic journal. Electronic journal utilization level as reference material is relatively high, because from 86,2% students which utilize electronic journal, 40% utilizes it 2-3 times in a month. 34,7% utilizes electronic journal with duration less than 2 hours, with downloading electronic journal collection searched, 34,7% uses 2 articles as reference material for thesis; (3) Obstacles in utilizing electronic journal are 52% caused by electronic journal collection mostly using English, and searched collection are not available. Although there are some difficulties, they keep utilize the electronic journal.

Abstract: Survey research has reached an era when the Internet is commonly used as a research tool in different fields of study. Yet, the use of this method in tourism and hospitality research has not been fully explored. This study provides a state-of-the-art assessment of journal publications in the past ten years to reveal how the Internet has been incorporated into tourism and hospitality research. Over the past five years, McGrath Library at Hilbert College has made its interlibrary loan services more convenient, efficient, and beneficial to both students and faculty. As a direct result, use of ILL has increased. This article discusses what small changes McGrath Library has made to improve interlibrary loan services and how these changes benefit both students and faculty. CINAHL® database characteristics were examined in three vendor products. A number of unanticipated variations concerning category terms, field tags and their definitions, and search results are noted and discussed. Interface highlights are also explored. Knowing the characteristics of the vendor interface being used allows the searcher to accommodate unique variations when helpful or necessary. Usefulness of interface characteristics and features, display settings, and content are framed by the user's experiences, needs, and preferences. There have been many recent changes to PubMed to enhance its usefulness. Those changes include: LinkOut Libraries (local holding field), PubMed Central (full-text articles archived by the National Library of Medicine), and LinkOut (access to full-text articles right from the PubMed citation). Medical librarians should be aware of how these features work to best assist their clients. These new features offer the possibility of true desktop access for library patrons.
