Introduction: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also called Photobiomodulation, has gained widespread acceptance as a mainstream modality, particularly in the form of photobiostimulation (PBM). Here in our review, we aim to present the application of LLLT to help with depression, explore potential action mechanisms and pathways, discuss existing limitations, and address the challenges associated with its clinical implementation. Methods: In biological systems, the visible light with a wavelength range of 400-700 nm activates photoreceptors involved in vision and circadian rhythm regulation. The near-infrared (NIR) light with a wavelength range of 800-1100 nm exhibits superior tissue penetration capabilities compared to the visible light, which enables the non-invasive application of LLLT to various tissues. Results: By enhancing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production using the respiratory chain, LLLT is able to enhance blood flow, reduce inflammation, support repair and healing, and enhance stem cell growth and proliferation. Preclinical studies using animal models have shown promising neuroprotective effects of the LLLT method on central nervous system (CNS) diseases, suggesting potential improvements in brain function for patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. In addition, it helps Parkinson's patients with their movement problems and ameliorates mental disorders in individuals with depression. Conclusion: patients' quality of life can be significantly enhanced. Purpose: This study investigates the applicability of optimized machine learning (ML) approach for the prediction of Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) using anatomic and anthropometric predictors., Method: To this end, 180 recruits were enrolled in a cross-sectional study of 30 MTSS (30.36 ± 4.80 years) and 150 normal (29.70 ± 3.81 years). Twenty-five predictors/features, including demographic, anatomic, and anthropometric variables, were selected as risk factors. Bayesian optimization method was used to evaluate the most applicable machine learning algorithm with tuned hyperparameters on the training data. Three experiments were performed to handle the imbalances in the data set. The validation criteria were accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity., Results: The highest performance (even 100%) was observed for the Ensemble and SVM classification models while using at least 6 and 10 most important predictors in undersampling and oversampling experiments, respectively. In the no-resampling experiment, the best performance (accuracy = 88.89%, sensitivity = 66.67%, specificity = 95.24%, and AUC = 0.8571) was achieved for the Naive Bayes classifier with the 12 most important features., Conclusion: The Naive Bayes, Ensemble, and SVM methods could be the primary choices to apply the machine learning approach in MTSS risk prediction. These predictive methods, alongside the eight common proposed predictors, might help to more accurately calculate the individual risk of developing MTSS at the point of care., (© 2023. In this work we performed dye photodegradation experiments in presence of TiO 2 and Cu/Zr modified TiO 2 . The changes in the shape of the spectra of RB19 caused by photocatalysts under the simulated solar or UV light were monitored. Since the predominant photocatalytic mechanism can only be observed in very dilute solution of RB19, UV-Vis absorption spectrometry for higher concentrations and thermal lens spectrometry for lower concentrations have been applied to elucidate the mechanistic details of degradation processes. Bleaching of the dye was a characteristic feature, that occurred under both simulated solar and UV lights. It was also evident, that the absorption peak with maximum centered at 592 nm undergoes a slight blue shift during irradiation. The experiments carried out using UV and simulated solar light demonstrated, that two different processes responsible for the RB19 dye degradation occurred. In the initial stage of irradiation one of the processes appears under the UV light and can be recognized by a characteristic blue shift in the absorption spectrum of the solution. The second process is characteristic for irradiation by the simulated solar light which involve a blue shift at longer periods (100 min). These phenomena were attributed to the photocatalytic and photosensitization mechanisms, respectively. However, photocatalytic mechanism was also observed under simulated solar radiation, when the initial dye concentration was decreased to 5 mgL -1 , and was recognized by the increase of the thermal lens signal during the initial stages of degradation process. This was possible because the thermal lens spectroscopy technique provides a limit of quantification for RB19 at the concentration level of 0.12 mg L -1 , while UV-Vis spectrometry enables quantification of RB19 only down to 4 mg L -1 levels., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest None., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier B.V. In the thermal lens experimental set-up we replaced the commonly employed pump laser by a halogen lamp, combined with an interference filter, providing a tuneable, nearly monochromatic pump source over the range of wavelengths 430-710 nm. Counter-propagating pump and probe beams are used and a 1 mm path-length sample cell together with the interference filter makes an optical cavity, providing amplification of the thermal lens signal, which leads to enhancement of the measurement sensitivity, and enables detection of absorbances on the order of 5 × 10 -6 . Amplified thermal lens signal allows us to replace the typical lock-in amplifier and digital oscilloscope with a silicon photodetector, Arduino, and a personal computer, offering the possibility for a compact, robust and portable device, useful for in-field absorption measurements in low concentration or weakly absorbing species. The use of a white light source for optical pumping, an interference filter for wavelength selection and direct diagnostic of the thermal lens signal increase the versatility of the instrument and simplifies substantially the experimental setup. Determination of Fe(II) concentrations at parts per billion levels was performed by the described white-light thermal lens spectrophotometer and the absorption spectrum for 50 μgL -1 Fe(II)-1,10-phenanthroline was well reproduced with an average measurement precision of 4%. The obtained limits of detection and quantitation of Fe(II) determination at 510 nm are 3 µgL -1 and 11 µgL -1 , respectively. The calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of LOQ-500 µgL -1 with reproducibility between 2% and 6%, confirming that this instrument provides good spectrometric capabilities such as high sensitivity, tuneability and good reproducibility. In addition, the versatility of the instrument was demonstrated by recording the photothermal spectrum of gold nanostructured material and determination of excitation wavelength with most efficient optical to thermal energy conversion, which differs considerably (cca 100 nm) from the absorption maximum of the investigated sample., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V. Derivatives of a new heterocyclic system, pyrimido[5,4-e]thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine 3, were prepared by sequential treatment of ethyl 4-chloro-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine-5-carboxylate 1 with 4,5-dihydrothiazol-2-amine 2 and various secondary amines. Single crystal X-ray analysis confirmed the structure of the regioisomer 3. The photophysical characterization of these new compounds was performed by UV/VIS absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy. Out of six derivatives studied, only four products 4a-d showed relatively strong fluorescence intensity. The relevant photophysical parameters for all derivatives in this series, including quantum yields and Stokes shifts for the best fluorophores are given.

Background: The body composition varies according to different life styles (i.e. intake calories and caloric expenditure). Therefore, it is wise to record military personnel's body composition periodically and encourage those who abide to the regulations. Different methods have been introduced for body composition assessment: invasive and non-invasive. Amongst them, the Jackson and Pollock equation is most popular., Objectives: The recommended anthropometric prediction equations for assessing men's body composition were compared with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) gold standard to develop a modified equation to assess body composition and obesity quantitatively among Iranian military men., Patients and Methods: A total of 101 military men aged 23 - 52 years old with a mean age of 35.5 years were recruited and evaluated in the present study (average height, 173.9 cm and weight, 81.5 kg). The body-fat percentages of subjects were assessed both with anthropometric assessment and DEXA scan. The data obtained from these two methods were then compared using multiple regression analysis., Results: The mean and standard deviation of body fat percentage of the DEXA assessment was 21.2 ± 4.3 and body fat percentage obtained from three Jackson and Pollock 3-, 4- and 7-site equations were 21.1 ± 5.8, 22.2 ± 6.0 and 20.9 ± 5.7, respectively. There was a strong correlation between these three equations and DEXA (R² = 0.98)., Conclusions: The mean percentage of body fat obtained from the three equations of Jackson and Pollock was very close to that of body fat obtained from DEXA; however, we suggest using a modified Jackson-Pollock 3-site equation for volunteer military men because the 3-site equation analysis method is simpler and faster than other methods.
