Tyrimo objektas - tradicinės formulės su žemės įvaizdžiu, vartojamos tiek šnekamojoje, tiek tautosakos meninėje kalboje. Pasitaikančios įvairiuose kontekstuose, formulės ligi / prie / ant žemės, žemė dreba neabejotinai suteikia gyvumo vaizduojamai situacijai, ją suaktualina. Savyje suderinusios kuriamo vaizdo talpumą bei kuo stipresnio įspūdžio siekimą, jos atrodo įprastesnės šnekamosios kalbos stiliui. Dėl savo semantinio neapibrėžtumo šios formulės tapo universaliomis poetinėmis klišėmis, o jų konkretus turinys bei paskirtis atsiskleidžia tik konkrečiame tekste. Šio straipsnio tikslas - patyrinėti minėtų formulių semantiką, išryškinti įvairius vartosenos atvejus. Taip pat mėginama ieškoti folklorinio vaizdo ištakų senojoje pasaulėjautoje. Įvairiems tekstams bei kontekstams priklausančių formulių semantinė tipologinė analizė, aprašomasis bei interpretacinis metodai leis išryškinti tam tikrus tradicinės kultūros kontūrus, vertybių sistemą, kurioje žemė - amžinumo, pastovumo, nuosaikumo simbolis padėjo reikšti išskirtines, dažniausiai ekstremalias būsenas, jausmus. Žemė sudarė materialinio ir dvasinio gyvenimo pagrindą. Su žeme, kaip kulto ir gamtos objektu, susiję mitiniai, religiniai išgyvenimai buvo projektuojami ir į folklorinį žemės įvaizdį, kuris tapo žmogaus gyvenimo kokybės, vertės matu. Jutimiškai suvokiamame pasaulyje įvairūs jo objektai tapo simboliais, padedančiais įprasminti ir išreikšti etines, estetines, pragmatines nuostatas, kitaip tariant, makropasaulio objektai tapo savotiškais kodais, leidžiančiais pademonstruoti mikropasaulio - vidinio žmogaus pasaulio - virpesius. Linguistic formulae employing the image of earth, used in everyday speech and folklore, are subjects of investigation in this article. The author analyses their semantics, points out different aspects of their use, attempting to establish their origins in the traditional folk mentality. Poetical formulae denoting something low, or directed at the very bottom, such as “lenktis prie žemės” “bow down to earth”, while functioning in the context of ritual folklore, illustrate the very "dual moment: bowing down to earth is regarded as sign of special respect and also, of reverence. Such situations, when somebody / something is described as bending / flagging down to earth, or falling / swooping down are symbolic, and should be perceived in figurative sense. They signify anxiety, loneliness, pain, fear, and death. These formulae are used to emphasize tension of the moment; 'hey imply warning or evil foreboding. In poetry depicting humans or objects of nature, formulae like “ligi žemės” “reaching down to the ground”, “žemę šluoja” “sweeping the ground”, “žeme čiužinėja” “sliding on the ground” are used as poetical exaltations. Such formulaic expressions are especially favoured by archaic folk songs. Formula “ligi žemės... ligi dangaus” “down to the earth... up till the sty” embraces the widest scope of the visible space, thus doubling the emotional effect it evokes. Mentioned together, earth and sky stand for totality, implying that very boundaries of human knowledge and perception have been reached. Thus, instead of simply serving as delimitations of the visible space, these images turn into emotional, sensuous signs. Therefore in modem poetical texts, when contrasting earth and sky, the dramatic aspect tends to be enhanced. Formula “žemė dreba” “earth is trembling” implies situation being critical, out of the ordinary. By tumbling (rumbling, crumbling, sagging) the earth reacts to human feelings and sufferings. This formula is thematically associated with parting, separation, loneliness, loss, and death. In more modern folk songs, there appears a tendency to motivate the trembling of earth, presenting it as a result of great external, physical impact. Another popular case of application of this formula is in order to convey joy, human inner harmony and coherent existence. Such state used to be perceived as right and aspired for, determining quality and plenitude of human life. Therefore the image of trembling earth should be regarded as expression of human affinity to earth. While analysing semantics of this image, the author points out its relations to the mythical image of trembling Earth and the real phenomenon of earthquake.
