Recent trends in marriage include delaying marriage, the rise of singlehood, and romantic or companionate marriage. In studying these developments, including in Indonesia, anthropologists have largely focused on urban, educated, middle class youth, where ideals of romantic love and couple-focused fulfilment are evident. To broaden this perspective, this article focuses on the experiences of young, lower-class, low-income newlyweds. Drawing on diverse ethnographic life stories from Indonesia (metropolitan Java, rural West Sumatra, and coastal Papua), we show that marital ideas and practices stressed broader family expectations and social legitimacy, social and economic forms of care, and interdependence with extended kin. They did not generally express middle class romantic and companionate notions of love or marriage. These accounts highlight the salience of everyday material, social and economic aspects of care in marriage that have received less consideration recently due to the anthropological interest in romance, intimacy, and care as loving attention. Purpose: Child marriage remains a significant socio-cultural phenomenon with profound implications for the quality of marital relationships, particularly among young women. This study investigates the association between child marriage and the quality of marriage among young married women in Iran. Methods: This study employed a population-based cross-sectional research design. A total of 70 young women, aged 18–20 years, who had married before reaching 18 years of age, were selected from four primary health care (PHC) centers in Papi District, Lorestan Province, Iran, employing a systematic random sampling approach. Subjects were categorized into women experiencing relationship distress and those without such distress using the Quality of Marriage Index (QMI). Concurrently, their level of sexual satisfaction was assessed utilizing the Hudson's Index of Sexual Satisfaction (ISS). Furthermore, Social Support was evaluated using the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ). Results: The mean age (SD) of women was 18.9 (0.7) years, and their mean age (SD) of marriage was 15.2 (2.1) years. Women experiencing distress showed significant differences in age of menarche (P = 0.006), education levels (P = 0.039), spouses' education (P = 0.025), spouses' occupations (P = 0.004), household income satisfaction (P = 0.041), and household structure (P = 0.045). Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis revealed significant and positive correlations between sexual self-efficacy and social support with marital quality (r = 0.73, p < 0.001 and r = 0.55, p < 0.001, respectively). Conversely, there was a significant negative correlation between the score of indexes of sexual satisfaction and marital quality (r = -0.65, p < 0.001). Conclusion: These findings emphasize the complex factors affecting marital quality and underscore the urgent need for interventions to support young women in early marriages. Early marriage restrains women's agency and bargaining strength in postmarital households, impairing their ability to make meaningful contributions to household decision making. This paper employs a comprehensive measure of women's empowerment in the domestic and productive spheres, and isolates the causal effect of age at marriage, instrumented by age at menarche, on their bargaining strength, using nationally representative data from Bangladesh. Results suggest that delayed marriages result in significantly higher empowerment scores and probability of being empowered for women, because of higher likelihood in achieving adequacy in their autonomy in agricultural production, control over income, ownership of assets and rights in those assets, and ability to speak in public. Favorable impacts of delayed marriage are also found on women's freedom of mobility, fertility choices, and their ability to decide on household expenses and investments, with the impacts likely coming via improvements in education and labor market outcomes when women married later. Efforts to eliminate 'child, early, and forced marriage', human rights violations with a wide range of harmful consequences, have intensified in the past twenty years as part of a growing social movement toward gender equality. The compound phrase 'child, early, and forced marriage' has become the preferred rhetoric in recent years and communicates a range of potentially harmful aspects of marriage, including the timing and consensuality of the event. However, we argue that two of the three component terms in 'child, early, and forced marriage' are not uniformly understood and, as a result, have not been adequately taken up in research, policy, or programming. In this review, we describe the history of this term and how different institutions define its individual components. We demonstrate that, in practice, 'child, early, and forced marriage' is often simplified to child marriage alone because this concept has a shared definition that is readily quantifiable. We recommend that clear definitions of early and forced marriage be developed and consistently applied alongside child marriage to further progress toward the overarching aim of improving gender equality. Adolescents experience a period of rapid growth and development both physically, psychologically and intellectually. Based on the results of the evaluation of the Integrated Gempar activities in Petungsewu Village in 2022, there are 24% of teenagers who get married early. So it is necessary to provide preventative efforts to provide health education in schools. This method is able to increase adolescent knowledge and change adolescent behavior to improve their health status independently. Community service activities were carried out on Wednesday, October 11 202 at 10.00 - 12.00 at MTs Nurul Huda, Petungsewu Village, Dau District, Malang Regency. The target of this activity is 100 teenagers in grades 7 and 8. The method applied is the health education method. Health education is carried out by delivering material and asking questions. The success indicator uses a questionnaire measuring tool to measure changes in knowledge in the pre-test and post-test. As a result, the average post-test score in the good knowledge category reached 24%, indicating an increase of 10% that the target teenagers experienced increased knowledge and understanding. Early marriage is a contributing factor to low levels of health, education, and family welfare. Early marriage is a worldwide occurrence that warrants the attention of all stakeholders, including UNICEF. The objective of this study is to address the issue of early marriage in Indonesia by employing the quadruple helix approach and doing legal and economic analysis to effectively reduce the prevalence of early marriages. The author employed a type of normative juridical study that incorporated both national law and the Islamic legal method approach known as maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. This was done by utilizing the quadruple helix and economic analysis of law (EAL) theory. Ultimately, early marriage is influenced by ineffective regulations as well as cultural, economic, and educational factors. To address this issue, it is crucial to establish a strong collaboration between academics, businesses, government, and society. Additionally, raising awareness among the public about the benefits of delaying marriage until the appropriate age can contribute to the well-being of couples, families, and society as a whole. This approach can also incentivize the community by facilitating access to education, the economy, and healthcare and addressing issues such as stunting.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Imago therapy approach on marital adjustment and love styles in married students with early marriages. Methods and Materials: The research employed a semi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population studied included second-year high school students from vocational and technical schools in Mashhad during the 2021-2022 academic year. A purposive sampling method was used, and the participants were randomly assigned to a 15-member experimental group and a 15-member control group. The experimental group underwent 10 sessions of Imago therapy intervention and training. Subsequently, post-tests were conducted using questionnaires on both groups, and follow-up tests were administered at the end. To measure the level of marital adjustment, the Spanier Marital Adjustment Questionnaire (1976) was used, and to assess attitudes toward love, the Hendrick Love Attitudes Scale (1986) was utilized. The data were analyzed using inferential statistics through the SPSS statistical software. Findings: The results of the covariance analysis indicated that the Imago therapy model was effective in increasing marital adjustment and love styles, suggesting that this approach can be used in therapeutic and counseling sessions. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that Imago therapy significantly improves marital adjustment and love styles in married students with early marriages. Post-intervention scores in the experimental group showed a meaningful increase in marital adjustment and strong attitudes toward love compared to the control group. The issue of early marriage has become a polemic and still occurs frequently in Indonesian society. This paper considers the importance of limiting the age of marriage to prevent negative physical, social and emotional impacts on children. This paper abstracts how early marriage in Indonesia impacts family resilience. This type of research is field research, with a text analysis approach related to social issues to answer related factors that influence early marriage and how to improve family resilience. The author conducted research by interviewing five people, one of whom is the deputy head of the Religious Court, the other four are actors who play the role of parents in fulfilling the economical and social needs of children in low-income families, the impact of the increase in the marriage age limit on the rise in marriage dispensation applications at the Indonesian Religious Court, irregularities in marriage dispensation, the phenomenon of underage marriage, the practice of nikah sirri and its implications for marriage registration in Indonesia. The results show the need for better education, economic access, substantial law enforcement, and changes in social and cultural norms to address early marriage, concluding that limiting the age of marriage is vital to achieving family stability, happiness and well-being in Indonesia.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of life. Not only the decline in the economic situation, but it has also had an impact on the emergence of social problems such as the high rate of early marriage. Early marriage has been a scientific concern for a long time. However, scientific studies have not been able to reduce the rate of increase in the number of children marrying early. The loss of the rights of children who should receive proper education, play and the right to protection are forced to be “bound” in a marriage. The purpose of this article is to add references to solving the problem of early marriage which has been long problematic on an international, national and regional scale. This article discusses the objective conditions of early marriage during a pandemic and criticizes the implementation of strategies for preventing and handling cases of the early child marriage. The data in this study were taken from the main data in the form of in-depth interviews with competent informants. Additional data was taken from existing data at the related office in North Luwu Regency along with the news from online sites, became a reference in this article. This study establish that the number of early marriages has rising due to the widespread use of social networks and changes in daily activity patterns. For future studies, it is recommended to consider the determinant factors in different locations and in a wider scope.

A marriage license in Indonesia is only allowed to be granted to a man and woman from age 19 and above. The aim is to prevent early marriages which are very vulnerable to divorce due to the psychological immaturity of the couple. For example, Kotagajah Timur was observed to have a common case of divorce among underage people that married due to pregnancy outside of marriage. Therefore, this descriptive-analytical field study was conducted based on a phenomenological method. Moreover, data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that divorcees from early marriages were unable to fulfill the provisions of Child Custody Rights. This was observed from the fact that the couple did not provide the required child protection after the divorce in addition to the non-fulfillment of other rights such as Nasab, Nafkah, Care (Hadhanah), and Child Education Patterns. Furthermore, the mother is required by the law to have full custody while the father provides living expenses. This requirement is observed to have been ignored because the mother is underage and lacks the maturity to perform the necessary obligations such as caring for and educating the children. Therefore, the children are discovered to be under the care of the parents of the mother.

The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022 came into force in England on 27 February 2023 and made both registered and unregistered marriages involving people under 18 illegal in England and Wales. This means that such marriages which take place outside England and Wales will not be recognised and those who organised them, including parents, will have committed a criminal offence. This review considers issues related to families where such marriages have happened, including their impact on the health of the victim and any resulting children. This paper analyses whether living in a locality with high crime against women affects the probability of early marriage—that is, marriage before the legal age of marriage of girls. Using a nationally representative longitudinal data set and tackling the potential endogeneity of local crime rates, we find that perceived crime against women in the locality significantly increases the likelihood of early marriage of girls, while there is no such effect on boys of comparable age group. We also find no such effect of gender-neutral crimes (such as theft and robbery) on the likelihood of early marriage of girls. Moreover, we find that the relationship holds only in conservative households where the purdah system is practised, and also in the northern region of India, where patriarchal culture and gender norms are stronger than in the southern region. A sensitivity analysis assessing the potential impact of unobservable confounders suggests that our estimates are unlikely to be affected by omitted variable bias. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The pathways by which adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with early marriage and early pregnancy are poorly understood. Early marriage and early pregnancy may be risk factors for adulthood intimate partner violence (IPV). The aim of this study was to assess the relationships among ACEs, early marriage, early pregnancy, and IPV among women in Honduras. Method: We used weighted data from 1,436 women aged 18–24 years from the nationally representative 2017 Honduras Violence Against Children and Youth Survey. We used path analysis to estimate relationships and accounted for sample design, non-response, and within-country clustering. Results: We found that ACEs had differential relationships with outcomes of interest. For example, witnessing violence in the community was directly associated with increased probability of early pregnancy (10 percentage points (PP); 95% CI: 0.04, 0.15) and IPV (6 PP; 95% CI: 0.01, 0.10), while emotional violence was not directly or indirectly associated with any outcome. Early marriage and early pregnancy had no direct or indirect effect on IPV, but the total effect of early marriage on IPV was significant. Conclusions: Understanding the relationship between ACEs, early marriage, early pregnancy, and IPV may help inform prevention efforts. AbstractKerala, the Indian state with the highest reported level of social development, faces a challenge with persistent early marriage, particularly among Muslims in Malappuram. This study explores the sociocultural factors influencing this situation, in which child marriage rates among Muslims are significantly higher than those of Hindus and Christians. Employing a qualitative research strategy within a specific Malappuram mahallu, a Muslim-majority village cluster encompassing three villages, we identify a multifaceted interplay of micro and macro forces perpetuating early marriage. Lack of social networks, stemming from limited higher education options and career opportunities, restricts girls’ choices and makes them susceptible to parental pressure to marry early. Parents, on the other hand, often view early marriage as an appropriate solution to their anxieties concerning parental responsibility, dowry and family honour. This pressure is amplified by the narrative promoted by religious leaders who portray early marriage as the ideal path. This narrative, in turn, resonates with a subset of young men, particularly temporary Gulf migrants who prefer to marry adolescent girls, thereby perpetuating the cycle. We also argue that, unlike most regions in India, poverty and illiteracy are not the primary drivers of early marriage among Muslims in Malappuram. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates the efficacy of creative drama as an intervention to enhance the recognition and enforcement of child rights among women subjected to early and coerced marriages. Conducted with twenty women from the Bağcılar district of Istanbul, all under the age of 45 who experienced forced marriages at a young age, the intervention consisted of ten creative drama workshops each lasting three hours at the Med Culture Center. The research employed a qualitative methodology, beginning with in-depth interviews to gather initial data on participants' views of 'early marriage' and 'childhood.' Following the interviews, participants engaged in drama-based activities designed to educate them about their rights as children. The qualitative analysis of workshop outcomes suggests a significant increase in awareness about child rights violations and positive contributions to participants' emotional, cognitive, and behavioral development. These workshops were instrumental in deepening understanding of essential child rights, including education, protection, health, justice, freedom of expression, leisure, and safe living conditions, thus promoting a comprehensive acknowledgment of their rights until the age of 18. The findings indicate that creative drama significantly raised awareness about the detrimental effects of early and forced marriages. Participants reported a newfound sense of empowerment and the ability to recognize and advocate for their rights and those of their children. The study also emphasizes the transformative potential of creative drama in providing a supportive environment for participants to express their experiences and reflect on their personal growth. The implications of this research suggest that creative drama can be a powerful tool in combating early marriages by fostering awareness, resilience, and self-efficacy among affected women, ultimately contributing to broader societal change. Purpose: The objective of this paper is to examine the effect of spending one extra year in high school on early marriage and childbirth. Design/methodology/approach: The study takes advantage of the education reform in 2007 that extended the years of high school education by one to conduct a quasi experiment. The marriage and fertility outcomes of women who completed a four-year senior high school education are compared to those who completed a three-year senior high school education. Findings: The findings from the study indicate that the one-year extension in high school education led to a 4.75 percentage point reduction in the probability of ever marrying by age 27 and a 6.7 percentage point reduction in the probability of ever given birth. The authors demonstrate that the extension of the duration of high school education by one year has a heterogeneous effect, as it reduced the fertility and marriage outcomes of rural girls more than urban girls. The study reveals opportunity costs and confinement effects as possible mechanisms through which the policy affected early marriage and birth. Originality/value: This study is one of the few studies that examine the impact of the duration of secondary school education on fertility and marriage. For Africa in particular, there is no such study. Thus, this study provides a unique contribution to the literature since available studies on this subject matter can only be found in advanced economies. Unlike other studies in Africa that use a design that provides the combined effect of duration of schooling and school enrolment on fertility and marriage, this design enables the authors to only look at the effect of duration of schooling on fertility and marriage. The practice of early marriage is a serious problem currently occurring. Even though marriage is everyone's right, in its implementation, you must still pay attention to applicable regulations. Education is essential in preventing early marriage, but in some cases, sex education is not widely conveyed in schools because it is considered taboo. This research was conducted to see an overview of early marriage, especially in the Pagerageung, Tasikmalaya, and how education, especially sex education, can play a role in preventing this. The method used is a qualitative research methodology with a case study approach with data collection techniques using four stages, including (1) in-depth interviews, (2) participant and non-participant observation, (3) documentation, and (4) literature review. The subjects in this research were 23 people, including government elements, community leaders, and subjects who married at an early age. Factors influencing early marriage include promiscuity, economics, culture, education, and religion. In this phenomenon, education has a role in providing adequate understanding and information to the community, especially in the Pagerageung area, so that the phenomenon of early marriage can continue to be reduced. Meskipun pernikahan merupakan hak setiap orang, namun dalam pelaksanaannya tetap harus memperhatikan sesuai dengan regulasi yang berlaku. Pendidikan memiliki peran yang penting pada pencegahan pernikahan dini, namun pada beberapa fenomena, pendidikan seks tidak banyak disampaikan di sekolah karena dianggap tabu. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat gambaran mengenai fenomena pernikahan dini khususnya di daerah Pagerageung, Tasikmalaya dan bagaimana pendidikan khususnya pendidikan seks dapat berperan untuk mencegah hal tersebut. Adapun metode yang digunakanan adalah metodologi penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus dengan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan 4 tahapan, meliputi (1) Wawancara in depth interview, (2) Observasi Partisipan dan Nonpartisipan, (3) Dokumentasi, dan (4) Kajian Literatur. Subjek dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 23 orang, meliputi elemen pemerintahan, tokoh masyarakat, dan subjek yang menikah usia dini. Faktor yang mempengaruhi pernikahan usia dini, yaitu pergaulan bebas, ekonomi, budaya, pendidikan, dan agama. Pada fenomena ini, pendidikan memiliki peran untuk memberikan pemahaman dan informasi yang memadai kepada Masyarakat, khususnya di daerah Pagerageung agar fenomena pernikahan dini dapat terus dikurangi. Abstract Background Child marriage is a global crisis underpinned by gender inequality and discrimination against girls. A small evidence base suggests that food insecurity crises can be both a driver and a consequence of child marriage. However, these linkages are still ambiguous. This paper aims to understand how food insecurity influences child marriage practices in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe. Methods Mixed methods, including participant-led storytelling via SenseMaker® and key informant interviews, were employed to examine the relationship between food insecurity and child marriage within a broader context of gender and socio-economic inequality. We explored the extent to which food insecurity elevates adolescent girls’ risk of child marriage; and how food insecurity influences child marriage decision-making among caregivers and adolescents. Key patterns that were generated by SenseMaker participants’ interpretations of their own stories were visually identified in the meta-data, and then further analyzed. Semi-structured guides were used to facilitate key informant interviews. Interviews were audio-recorded, and transcribed and translated to English, then imported into NVivo for coding and thematic analysis. Results A total of 1,668 community members participated in SenseMaker data collection, while 22 staff participated in interviews. Overall, we found that food insecurity was a primary concern among community members. Food insecurity was found to be among the contextual factors of deprivation that influenced parents’ and adolescent girls’ decision making around child marriage. Parents often forced their daughters into marriage to relieve the household economic burden. At the same time, adolescents are initiating their own marriages due to limited alternative survival opportunities and within the restraints imposed by food insecurity, poverty, abuse in the home, and parental migration. COVID-19 and climate hazards exacerbated food insecurity and child marriage, while education may act as a modifier that reduces girls’ risk of marriage. Conclusions Our exploration of the associations between food insecurity and child marriage suggest that child marriage programming in humanitarian settings should be community-led and gender transformative to address the gender inequality that underpins child marriage and address the needs and priorities of adolescent girls. Further, programming must be responsive to the diverse risks and realities that adolescents face to address the intersecting levels of deprivation and elevate the capacities of adolescent girls, their families, and communities to prevent child marriage in food insecure settings.

The surge in premarital sexual incidents among teenagers leading to early marriages, prompted by unintended pregnancies, pervasive dating behavior beyond ethical boundaries, exposure to explicit content, and the prevalence of sexual diseases, underscores the critical need for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education. This study explores the patterns and strategies employed in imparting sexual education and managing reproductive health among students at Yayasan Perguruan Mayjend Sutoyo High School, Sisingamangaraja Street, Medan. Employing qualitative methods, data was gathered through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with students, Biology teachers, the School Principal, parents, and other stakeholders. The findings reveal that sexual education primarily stems from Biology teachers, who employ tactful language to teach human anatomy, reproductive organs, and sexual functions, adhering to contextual norms. Reproductive health education addresses the dynamics and consequences of casual sexual relationships, utilizing age-appropriate teaching materials. Teenagers seek diverse knowledge from parents, school descriptions, and online resources to navigate sexual and reproductive health challenges. However, the discreet provision of sexual education is influenced by traditional cultural values, fostering silence and shame, particularly in discussing male and female genitalia.

ABSTRACTRecent reductions in female age at marriage in Iran correspond with the rise in the proportion of girls marrying at young ages. This paper aims to determine to what extent the probability of surviving in the never-married state by age 18 is affected by different time-invariant demographic, socio-economic, and cultural factors. A multivariate survivorship analysis was applied to the 2% micro-data from two successive censuses. This method is useful where longitudinal family surveys are not available. The findings indicate that (1) gender and ethnicity remain two important determinants of early marriage after adjusting for other covariates and (2) having literate parents substantially increases the relative probability of survival, with the literacy of the father displaying a larger influence regardless of gender and place of residence. These indicate the relevance of gender system, ethnicity, and socioeconomic standing in designing policies and interventions aimed at preventing early marriage in Iran.

Underage marriage, also known as child marriage, is a marriage carried out by someone who is under the age specified in the statutory regulations. In Law No. 1 of 1974, it is stated that permission to marry is given if the man is 19 years old and the woman is 16 years old, and if it is under that age, it can be done through a marriage dispensation at the Religious Court. Government regulations and policies regarding early marriage have undergone changes, namely changes to regulations regarding the age limit for marriage which has changed to 19 years for both men and women as regulated in Law no. 16 of 2019 concerning Amendments to Law No. 7 of 1974 concerning Marriage Marriage. Early marriage (i.e., at less than 18 years of age) is a significant global problem threatening the well-being of women. This cross-sectional study evaluated early marriage and the mental health of Roma women in Adana, Turkey. Data were collected between March 2019 and September 2019 using the Descriptive Characteristics Form and the Brief Symptom Inventory. We interviewed 272 married Roma women over 18 years of age, of whom 59.6% (n = 162) had married before the age of 18 years; of these, 14.2% had done so before the age of 15. Significant positive correlations were found between the duration of the marriage and measures of interpersonal sensitivity, somatization, depression, anxiety, phobia, paranoid ideation, psychoticism, and the Global Severity Index in the women who had married early. Among women who married after 18, the duration of marriage had a significant positive relationship with somatization and phobic anxiety. Gender discrimination is more frequent among the ethnic minorities in the domain of education. This study among the Muslims in India shows that the Muslims always lag behind the Hindus in literacy rate and there is widening gap between literacy rates of men and women. With particular reference to a bi-ethnic village, it further reveals that discrimination generates from the socio-economic context of a particular community and that the Muslim women are experiencing discrimination in education due to their parents' poor economic condition, lack of awareness, conservativeness, feeling of social insecurity of their girls, and their early marriage. The proliferation of hijrah groups among youth has had a significant impact, with positive outcomes such as enhanced religious understanding among teenagers and an increase in the adoption of more Islamic attire. However, this has also brought about negative consequences, including the dissemination of radical and textual interpretations, leading to conservatism. This article aims to uncover the controversy surrounding early marriage among Muslim millennials, driven by a tendency towards textual religious understanding. The research employs a qualitative method, drawing primary data from social media platforms of anti-dating millennial communities and online Islamic organizations in Indonesia. Secondary data were sourced from books, journals, and other relevant articles. The research findings indicate that controversy arises from the selection of hadith texts and differing interpretation methods. Antidating communities use motivational hadiths to support early marriage, employing a literal textual understanding related to sexual motivation, religious and individual piety, the vision of a happy family, emulation of the Prophet's marriage, and assurance of sustenance from Allah. Conversely, scholars use hadiths to reject early marriages with contextual understanding. The disregard of the youth for the views of scholars opposing early marriage indicates a shift in religious authority among Muslim millennials from traditional figures to influencers popular on social media. Early marriage reflects the hybridization of the religious identity of Muslim millennials, maintaining religious values while remaining trendy and cool. Background: Child marriage is a global crisis underpinned by gender inequality and discrimination against girls. A small evidence base suggests that food insecurity crises can be both a driver and a consequence of child marriage. However, these linkages are still ambiguous. This paper aims to understand how food insecurity influences child marriage practices in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe. Methods: Mixed methods, including participant-led storytelling via SenseMaker® and key informant interviews, were employed to examine the relationship between food insecurity and child marriage within a broader context of gender and socio-economic inequality. We explored the extent to which food insecurity elevates adolescent girls' risk of child marriage; and how food insecurity influences child marriage decision-making among caregivers and adolescents. Key patterns that were generated by SenseMaker participants' interpretations of their own stories were visually identified in the meta-data, and then further analyzed. Semi-structured guides were used to facilitate key informant interviews. Interviews were audio-recorded, and transcribed and translated to English, then imported into NVivo for coding and thematic analysis. Results: A total of 1,668 community members participated in SenseMaker data collection, while 22 staff participated in interviews. Overall, we found that food insecurity was a primary concern among community members. Food insecurity was found to be among the contextual factors of deprivation that influenced parents' and adolescent girls' decision making around child marriage. Parents often forced their daughters into marriage to relieve the household economic burden. At the same time, adolescents are initiating their own marriages due to limited alternative survival opportunities and within the restraints imposed by food insecurity, poverty, abuse in the home, and parental migration. COVID-19 and climate hazards exacerbated food insecurity and child marriage, while education may act as a modifier that reduces girls' risk of marriage. Conclusions: Our exploration of the associations between food insecurity and child marriage suggest that child marriage programming in humanitarian settings should be community-led and gender transformative to address the gender inequality that underpins child marriage and address the needs and priorities of adolescent girls. Further, programming must be responsive to the diverse risks and realities that adolescents face to address the intersecting levels of deprivation and elevate the capacities of adolescent girls, their families, and communities to prevent child marriage in food insecure settings. Marital satisfaction is an essential aspect of family life. Individuals who experience satisfaction in their marriage tend to exhibit positive emotions leading to happiness, which is associated with their subjective well-being encompassing their overall life satisfaction. Every individual naturally desires subjective well-being in their lives, including adolescents who marry due to unplanned pregnancies. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between marital satisfaction and subjective well-being among adolescents who married because of unplanned pregnancies. The research methodology employed in this study is quantitative, with a total sampling technique used to select 64 adolescents who married due to unplanned pregnancies as participants. The data analysis method utilized in this study is the Pearson product-moment correlation. The analysis results reveal a correlation of r = -0.356 with a significance level of 0.004 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between marital satisfaction and subjective well-being. The positive direction of this relationship suggests that lower marital satisfaction corresponds to lower subjective well-being, and vice versa

Introduction and backgroundEarly marriage and maternity represent a violation of human rights and a barrier to achieving gender equality in education. Studies conducted across various regions and countries, including Mozambique, have highlighted the negative consequences of early marriage and maternity, particularly on adolescent girls' physical, educational and mental health. Adolescent girls who marry before the age of 18 are more prone to a broad spectrum of mood, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders. In the districts of Maganja da Costa and Morrumbala in Zambézia Province, Mozambique, high rates of early marriage persist despite government policies and interventions.Purpose statementThis study aims to understand early marriage's socio-cultural, economic, and psychological drivers and impacts on adolescent girls' lives, focusing on education, mental health, and well-being.Design and methodsThis paper used a qualitative research design. We employed a life-story approach and used purposeful sampling to identify participants. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 25 participants and the data were analysed using Tesch's thematic analysis approach.ResultsElements contributing to early marriage and pregnancy are intricately linked with socio-cultural elements. These include the induction into specific societal roles, the affirmation of childbearing, the perceived importance of dowry, the impact of rite-of-passage ceremonies, and the cultural significance associated with a girl's initial menstruation. School dropout often originates from geographical and transportation challenges, nudging adolescent girls towards early marriage. In some instances, termination of pregnancy was viewed as a solution, while engaging in sexual activities was seen as a means to inject purpose into their lives or as a response to poverty. Positive changes and emotions were evident, yet regrettably, the ramifications of early pregnancy and marriage were primarily detrimental. These influenced the adolescent girls' interpersonal connections, educational and career opportunities, emotional well-being, and access to support networks.ConclusionsThe modern perspective, which advocates for equal educational rights for boys and girls and posits that marriage should occur after the age of 18, contradicts the socio-cultural perspective of adulthood.ContributionThis study adds to the ongoing efforts to prevent and combat early marriage and maternity in Africa.

The phenomenon of school dropout, which entails the failure to meet the minimum educational requirements, and early marriage, which involves the marital union of girls prior to attaining 18 years of age, constitute crucial issues in Ethiopia. This research endeavor sought to identify the determinants of these two outcomes. A weighted sample of 3091 girls who had experienced early marriage and school dropout was drawn from the 2016 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) dataset and analyzed utilizing bivariate binary multilevel models featuring spatial effects. The prevalence rates of early marriage and school dropout were 62.9 % and 75.4 %, respectively. We observed non-uniform spatial distributions of early marriage and school dropout across Ethiopia. The odds ratio of the association between early marriage and school dropout was 1.39, indicating a significant interdependence of these two outcomes. The probability of early marriage and school dropout was estimated to be 1.63 and 1.18 times higher, respectively, for girls hailing from rural areas and 1.70 and 1.23 times higher, respectively, for those classified in the poorest wealth index, as compared to their counterparts. Therefore, stakeholders and policymakers must prioritize hotspots, socio-economic, and demographic factors to achieve a meaningful reduction in the incidence of early marriage and school dropout.

counseling in schools can be the right choice in an effort to fortify adolescents from negative environmental influences and play a role in promoting the issues of free sex, early marriage, and reproductive health through counseling activities. The activity was carried out using the training method, in August 2023. The location of the activity was SMA Negeri 15 Surabaya, with the target participants being 2 representatives of class X and XI students, totaling 48 students. The instruments used in this activity are pre-test and post-test, with the main material of counseling on free sex, early marriage, reproductive health, and skills to become peer counselors. The success indicator of this activity, where >50% of participants get a minimum point increase of 5%. Community service activities through peer counseling training were successful in fulfilling activity success indicators. >50% of participants got an increase in points of at least 5% after training; namely, a total of 26 (54.17%) participants experienced an increase in knowledge scores of more than 5%. The training activities that have been carried out are effective in increasing the knowledge of participants.

This study aims to explain the factors behind the rise of early marriages in Bondowoso Regency which can be at risk of causing stunting; study the knowledge possessed by women in early marriage, reproductive health, and child-rearing; as well as conduct studies on stakeholder wars in alleviating early marriage as well as stunting. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques using in-depth interviews. The research location is in Pujer District, Bondowoso Regency. Determination of informants using purposive sampling consisted of several mothers who had stunted toddlers, village heads, clerics, to the head of the KUA Pujer District. The results of the study show that early marriage is still a risk factor that causes stunting in children. The dispensation of marriage, liking each other, arranged marriages, and avoiding adultery are the reasons why there are still early marriages here. Other factors that cause stunting apart from early marriage are knowledge, upbringing, socioeconomic conditions, and sanitation which factors that indicate stunting in Bondowoso Regency. The role of stakeholders in internalizing the community through an approach that is following their cultural characteristics plays a very important role in reducing the number of early marriages as well as stunting. However, if it is not accompanied by the efforts of the main actors to understand the impact of this early marriage, it can be indicated that stunting will still exist in Bondowoso Regency.

Early marriage is defined as a marriage that happens to a woman under 16 years. Early marriage can affect the mother's and baby's health. Free sex, education, and poverty remain the three significant factors of early marriage. West Java Province is the third-highest province with cases of early marriage with 19.23% of cases in Indonesia in the year of 2020. The number of cases of early marriage in an area certainly has different characteristics. The proximity factor between regions can influence it. This study aims to model instances of early marriage in West Java Province by considering spatial aspects using the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) method. The existence of spatial dependence and heterogeneity is proven by Moran's Index and Breusch-Pagan value less than alpha (0.05). The results of GWR modeling using Gaussian Kernel Weights show that the Percentage of Women Who Got Pregnant before 16 Years Old (X1), Average Years of Schooling for Women (X2), and Percentage of Poor People (X3), have significant impact of the percentage of early marriage in West Java. The Percentage of Women Who Got Pregnant before 16 Years Old (X1) variable and the Percentage of Poor People variable (X3) positively affects the percentage of early marriage in West Java Province in 2020. At the same time, Average Years of Schooling for Women (X2) has a negative effect. The covid-19 Pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the world community. Indonesia is one of the countries that has felt the impact of the Pandemic. Activities switch to online. Social media is the primary choice for teenagers. Unfortunately, these teenagers consume much harmful content. The novelty in this research is the high number of early marriages in Bantul, Indonesia, during the Pandemic, which is caused by consuming too often social media content that is not educational. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The data collection in this research is Observation, interview, and focus group discussion. The results showed that the number of early marriages during the Pandemic increased 100 percent. One of the causes of the increasing number of early marriages is social media. In addition to social media factors, several other factors cause early marriage during the Pandemic. Lack of positive activities, lots of free time, low education, low knowledge about the purpose of marriage, family economic factors, and promiscuity have led to an increase in the number of early marriages in adolescents during the Pandemic. In addition, early marriage has an impact on the high divorce rate. Researchers conducted socialization about the purpose of marriage from various points of view, both in terms of health, religion, Marriage Law, and family economy. Introduction: Based on data from the 2018 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas), the percentage of women aged 20-24 years who entered into their first marriage at less than the age of 15 was 0.56%, while those under the age of 18 were 11.21%. Early marriage can have a bad influence on the teenager who undergoes it or the child they are carrying. The reproductive organs are not yet mature during adolescence, so there is a risk if a teenage girl becomes pregnant with his child. Therefore, it is necessary to educate teenagers about reproductive health as early as possible. By having adequate knowledge related to reproductive health, teenagers will understand more about what happens to them during adolescence, the importance of protecting their reproductive organs, and the impact that will occur if undesirable things happen, such as pregnancy during adolescence. Methods: The program was carried out at the posyandu in Gawan Village, Tanon, Sragen Regency. Socialization begins with a pretest then continues with education related to adolescent reproductive health. Posttest work is carried out afterwards with the hope of achieving the output of education, namely increasing test scores with an average score above 80. Results and discussions: The average score obtained by the participants was 87.2, which means the participants had reached the average target score set. Early marriage, commonly referred to as child marriage, is still a prevalent social issue in many countries throughout the world. Millions of girls around the world have been subjected to underage marriage. This phenomenon is the marriage of girls under the age of 18, before they have the physical, emotional, and psychological maturity to make informed decisions about marriage, to shoulder the responsibilities of marriage and family, and to bear children. This problem, which manifests itself repeatedly with social crises, has lifelong detrimental impacts on women, including a lack of education, health risks, emotional and psychological difficulties, low self-esteem, a lack of empowerment, and increased vulnerability to domestic violence. Therefore, the phenomenon of early marriage also involves depriving individuals of their childhood and future. This qualitative research, which was conducted between 2015 and 2018 in the Gaziantep province through indepth interviews with 25 women between the ages of 18 and 60 who were married under the age of 18, explores the causes of child marriage and its destructive and lifelong physical, emotional and social effects on women who are subjected to this practice. The study finds that many girls are pushed into marriage at a young age due to social, cultural, and economic factors that lead to gender inequality fueled by patriarchal traditions, and that the inconsistency of laws and failures in implementation, as well as an affirmative cultural perspective, make child marriage a difficult problem to solve. The study, demonstrating that child marriage is a form of "violence" against girls, a violation of human and 'children's rights', and therefore cannot be accepted as 'normal' and is a practice that reinforces the unequal position of women, aims to contribute to the efforts and studies in Turkey and around the world to understand this phenomenon as a problem and to raise awareness for its solution. Karangtengah Village is located in the southeast of Wonogiri Regency and has an area of 18,087.90 ha. The village has very high productive human resources but has a high rate of early marriage. The early marriage prevention program (OKE LUR: Ojo Kesusu Rabi Lur!) aims to discover the causes of the high rate of early marriage, educate about early marriage and motivate them to continue school to a higher level. The 'OKE LUR!' program collaborates with the Karangtengah sub-district health centre and SMPN 1 Karangtengah. The implementation of the program was conducted for all students at SMPN 1 Karangtengah. Data were collected using pretest, post-test, and interview. The material presented was related to the impact and dangers of early marriage, how to prevent early marriage, and the dangers of stunting. The background of many early marriages is the economic condition and education level of parents, as well as the culture in this area. Based on the post-test results, the program ‘OKE LUR: Ojo Kesusu Rabi Lur!’ program has a positive impact on students of SMPN 1 Karangtengah such as increased knowledge related to early marriage and its dangers as well as the enthusiasm to continue their education to a higher level. Early marriage has several negative implications on women and wider society, such as reproductive health and the economy in Indonesia. In terms of health, it leads to adolescent pregnancy, risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections and experiencing gender-based violence (GBV), while in the context of economy, child marriage is estimated to cause economic losses of at least 1.7 percent of gross domestic income (GDP). According to the V, from January to June 2020, 34,000 recorded applications for marriage dispensation were recorded. (From this number, 97% were granted, and 60% of those who applied were children under 18. A specific case occurred in a village at Blora Regency, where the mindset of getting married at such a young age is natural. Society assumes that girls who have graduated from high school are ready to be a homemaker and let them follow their husbands after marriage. This article will determine how effective policy interventions can reduce the number of early marriages. It uses descriptive qualitative research by comparing community response surveys after participating in socialization activities. Based on this research, the most influential form of women's empowerment is community-based (Srikandi Desa).
