Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (JTWPAs) are integral parts of many experiments carried out in quantum technologies. Being composed of hundreds of Josephson junction-based unit cells, such devices exhibit complex nonlinear behavior that typically cannot be fully explained with simple analytical models, thus necessitating the use of numerical simulators. A very useful characteristic of JTWPAs is the possibility of being biased by an external magnetic flux, allowing insitu control of the nonlinearity. It is therefore very desirable for numerical simulators to support this feature. Open-source numerical tools that allow to model JTWPA flux biasing, such as WRSPICE or PSCAN2, are based on time-domain approaches,which typically require long simulation times to get accurate results. In this work, we model the gain performance in a prototypical flux-tunable JTWPA by using JosephsonCircuits.jl,a recently developed frequency-domain open-source numerical simulator, which has the benefit of simulation times about 10,000 faster than time-domain methods. By comparing the numerical and experimental results, we validate this approach for modeling the flux dependent behavior of JTWPAs.

It has been long known that the addition of linear friction on two-dimensional Navier-Stokes (NS) turbulence, often referred to as Ekman-Navier-Stokes (ENS) turbulence, induces strong intermittent fluctuations on small-scale vorticity. Such fluctuations are strong enough to be measurable at low-order statistics such as the energy or enstrophy spectrum. Simple heuristics lead to corrections in the spectrum which are proportional to the linear friction coefficient. In this work, we study the spectral correction by the implementation of a GPU-accelerated high-resolution numerical simulation of ENS covering a large range of Reynolds numbers. Among our findings, we highlight the importance of non-locality when comparing the expected results to the measured ones.

Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (TWPAs) are extensively employed in experiments involving weak microwave signals for their highly desirable quantum-limited and broadband characteristics. However, TWPAs' broadband nature comes with the disadvantage of admitting the activation of spurious nonlinear processes, such as harmonics generation, that can potentially degrade amplification performance. Here we experimentally investigate a Josephson TWPA device with SNAIL (Superconducting Nonlinear Asymmetric Inductive Element)-based unit cells focusing on the amplification behaviour along with the generation of second and third harmonics of the pump. By comparing experimental results with transient numerical simulations, we demonstrate the influence of Josephson junctions' fabrication imperfections on the occurrence of harmonics and on the gain behaviour., Comment: accepted version

HAT-P-67 b is one of the lowest-density gas giants known to date, making it an excellent target for atmospheric characterization through the transmission spectroscopy technique. In the framework of the GAPS large programme, we collected four transit events, with the aim of studying the exoplanet atmosphere and deriving the orbital projected obliquity. We exploited the high-precision GIARPS observing mode of the TNG, along with additional archival TESS photometry, to explore the activity level of the host star. We performed transmission spectroscopy, both in the VIS and in the nIR wavelength range, and analysed the RML effect both fitting the RVs and the Doppler shadow. Based on the TESS photometry, we redetermined the transit parameters of HAT-P-67 b. By modelling the RML effect, we derived a sky-projected obliquity of ($2.2\pm0.4$){\deg} indicating an aligned planetary orbit. The chromospheric activity index $\log\,R^{\prime}_{\rm HK}$, the CCF profile, and the variability in the transmission spectrum of the H$\alpha$ line suggest that the host star shows signatures of stellar activity and/or pulsations. We found no evidence of atomic or molecular species in the VIS transmission spectra, with the exception of pseudo-signals corresponding to Cr I, Fe I, H$\alpha$, Na I, and Ti I. In the nIR range, we found an absorption signal of the He I triplet of 5.56$^{+0.29}_{-0.30}$%(19.0$\sigma$), corresponding to an effective planetary radius of $\sim$3$R_p$ (where $R_p\sim$2$R_J$) which extends beyond the planet's Roche Lobe radius. Owing to the stellar variability, together with the high uncertainty of the model, we could not confirm the planetary origin of the signals found in the optical transmission spectrum. On the other hand, we confirmed previous detections of the infrared He I triplet, providing a 19.0$\sigma$ detection. We aim to constrain the internal structure and composition of HD 15337 b and c, two short-period planets situated on opposite sides of the radius valley, using new transit photometry and radial velocity data. We acquire 6 new transit visits with the CHaracterising ExOPlanet Satellite (CHEOPS) and 32 new radial velocity measurements from the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) to improve the accuracy of the mass and radius estimates for both planets. We reanalyse light curves from TESS sectors 3 and 4 and analyse new data from sector 30, correcting for long-term stellar activity. Subsequently, we perform a joint fit of the TESS and CHEOPS light curves, and all available RV data from HARPS and the Planet Finder Spectrograph (PFS). Our model fits the planetary signals, the stellar activity signal and the instrumental decorrelation model for the CHEOPS data simultaneously. The stellar activity was modelled using a Gaussian-process regression on both the RV and activity indicators. We finally employ a Bayesian retrieval code to determine the internal composition and structure of the planets. We derive updated and highly precise parameters for the HD 15337 system. Our improved precision on the planetary parameters makes HD 15337 b one of the most precisely characterised rocky exoplanets, with radius and mass measurements achieving a precision better than 2\% and 7\%, respectively. We are able to improve the precision of the radius measurement of HD 15337 c to 3\%. Our results imply that the composition of HD 15337 b is predominantly rocky, while HD 15337 c exhibits a gas envelope with a mass of at least $0.01\ M_\oplus$.Our results lay the groundwork for future studies, which can further unravel the atmospheric evolution of these exoplanets and give new insights into their composition and formation history and the causes behind the radius gap., Comment: 17 pages, including appendix

Love numbers measure the reaction of a celestial body to perturbing forces, such as the centrifugal force caused by rotation, or tidal forces resulting from the interaction with a companion body. These parameters are related to the interior density profile. The non-point mass nature of the host star and a planet orbiting around each other contributes to the periastron precession. The rate of this precession is characterized mainly by the second-order Love number, which offers an opportunity to determine its value. We collected all available radial velocity (RV) data, along with the transit and occultation times from the previous investigations of the system. We supplemented the data set with 19 new RV data points of the host star WASP-19A obtained by HARPS. Here, we summarize the technique for modeling the RV observations and the photometric transit timing variations (TTVs) to determine the rate of periastron precession in this system for the first time. We excluded the presence of a second possible planet up to a period of ~4200 d and with a radial velocity amplitude bigger than ~1 m/s. We show that a constant period is not able to reproduce the observed radial velocities. We also investigated and excluded the possibility of tidal decay and long-term acceleration in the system. However, the inclusion of a small periastron precession term did indeed improve the quality of the fit. We measured the periastron precession rate to be 233 $^{+25}_{-35}$''/. By assuming synchronous rotation for the planet, it indicates a k2 Love number of 0.20 $^{+0.02}_{-0.03}$ for WASP-19Ab. The derived k2 value of the planet has the same order of magnitude as the estimated fluid Love number of other Jupiter-sized exoplanets (WASP-18Ab, WASP-103b, and WASP-121b). A low value of k2 indicates a higher concentration of mass toward the planetary nucleus.

Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (JTWPAs) are largely exploited in quantum technologies for their broadband and low noise performance in the microwave regime. When one or more microwave tones are applied at the input, such devices show a complex wave-mixing response due to their intrinsic nonlinear nature. Numerical simulations of the JTWPAs nonlinear behaviour provide useful insights not only for the design of such devices, but also for the interpretation and validation of the experimental results. Here we present and discuss a comparative analysis of different open-source tools which can be used for JTWPAs numerical simulations. We focus on two tools for transient simulations, WRSPICE and PSCAN2, and on one tool for direct simulation of the frequency domain behaviour, JosephsonCircuit.jl. We describe the working principle of these three tools and test them considering as a benchmark a JTWPA based on SNAILs (Superconducting Nonlinear Asymmetric Inductive eLement) with realistic experimental parameters. Our results can serve as a guide for numerical simulations of JTWPAs with open-source tools, highlighting advantages and disadvantages depending on the simulation tasks., Comment: version accepted for publication

We report on the precise radial velocity follow-up of TOI-544 (HD 290498), a bright K star (V=10.8), which hosts a small transiting planet recently discovered by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). We collected 122 high-resolution HARPS and HARPS-N spectra to spectroscopically confirm the transiting planet and measure its mass. The nearly 3-year baseline of our follow-up allowed us to unveil the presence of an additional, non-transiting, longer-period companion planet. We derived a radius and mass for the inner planet, TOI-544b, of 2.018 $\pm$ 0.076 R$_{\oplus}$ and 2.89 $\pm$ 0.48 M$_{\oplus}$ respectively, which gives a bulk density of $1.93^{+0.30}_{-0.25}$ g cm$^{-3}$. TOI-544c has a minimum mass of 21.5 $\pm$ 2.0 M$_{\oplus}$ and orbital period of 50.1 $\pm$ 0.2 days. The low density of planet-b implies that it has either an Earth-like rocky core with a hydrogen atmosphere, or a composition which harbours a significant fraction of water. The composition interpretation is degenerate depending on the specific choice of planet interior models used. Additionally, TOI-544b has an orbital period of 1.55 days and equilibrium temperature of 999 $\pm$ 14 K, placing it within the predicted location of the radius valley, where few planets are expected. Classic designs of hyperspectral instrumentation densely sample the spatial and spectral information of the scene of interest. Data may be compressed after the acquisition. In this paper we introduce a framework for the design of an optimized, micro-patterned snapshot hyperspectral imager that acquires an optimized subset of the spatial and spectral information in the scene. The data is thereby compressed already at the sensor level, but can be restored to the full hyperspectral data cube by the jointly optimized reconstructor. This framework is implemented with TensorFlow and makes use of its automatic differentiation for the joint optimization of the layout of the micro-patterned filter array as well as the reconstructor. We explore the achievable compression ratio for different numbers of filter passbands, number of scanning frames, and filter layouts using data collected by the Hyperscout instrument. We show resulting instrument designs that take snapshot measurements without losing significant information while reducing the data volume, acquisition time, or detector space by a factor of 40 as compared to classic, dense sampling. The TOI-1130 is a known planetary system around a K-dwarf consisting of a gas giant planet, TOI-1130 c, on an 8.4-day orbit, accompanied by an inner Neptune-sized planet, TOI-1130 b, with an orbital period of 4.1 days. We collected precise radial velocity (RV) measurements of TOI-1130 with the HARPS and PFS spectrographs as part of our ongoing RV follow-up program. We perform a photodynamical modeling of the HARPS and PFS RVs, and transit photometry from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and the TESS Follow-up Observing Program. We determine the planet masses and radii of TOI-1130 b and TOI-1130 c to be Mb = 19.28 $\pm$ 0.97 M$_\oplus$ and Rb = 3.56 $\pm$ 0.13 R$_\oplus$, and Mc = 325.59 $\pm$ 5.59 M$_\oplus$ and Rc = 13.32+1.55-1.41 R$_\oplus$, respectively. We spectroscopically confirm TOI-1130 b that was previously only validated. We find that the two planets orbit with small eccentricities in a 2:1 resonant configuration. This is the first known system with a hot Jupiter and an inner lower mass planet locked in a mean-motion resonance. TOI-1130 belongs to the small yet increasing population of hot Jupiters with an inner low-mass planet that challenges the pathway for hot Jupiter formation. A traveling wave parametric amplifier has been integrated in the haloscope of the QUAX experiment. A search for dark matter axions has been performed with a high Q dielectric cavity immersed in a 8 T magnetic field and read by a detection chain having a system noise temperature of about 2.1 K at the frequency of 10.353 GHz. Scanning has been conducted by varying the cavity frequency using sapphire rods immersed into the cavity. At multiple operating frequencies, the sensitivity of the instrument was at the level of viable axion models.

TOI-1055 is a Sun-like star known to host a transiting Neptune-sized planet on a 17.5-day orbit (TOI-1055 b). Radial velocity (RV) analyses carried out by two independent groups using nearly the same set of HARPS spectra have provided measurements of planetary masses that differ by $\sim$ 2$\sigma$. Our aim in this work is to solve the inconsistency in the published planetary masses by significantly extending the set of HARPS RV measurements and employing a new analysis tool that is able to account and correct for stellar activity. Our further aim was to improve the precision on measurements of the planetary radius by observing two transits of the planet with the CHEOPS space telescope. We fit a skew normal (SN) function to each cross correlation function extracted from the HARPS spectra to obtain RV measurements and hyperparameters to be used for the detrending. We evaluated the correlation changes of the hyperparameters along the RV time series using the breakpoint technique. We performed a joint photometric and RV analysis using a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) scheme to simultaneously detrend the light curves and the RV time series. We firmly detected the Keplerian signal of TOI-1055 b, deriving a planetary mass of $M_b=20.4_{-2.5}^{+2.6} M_{\oplus}$ ($\sim$12%). This value is in agreement with one of the two estimates in the literature, but it is significantly more precise. Thanks to the TESS transit light curves combined with exquisite CHEOPS photometry, we also derived a planetary radius of $R_b=3.490_{-0.064}^{+0.070} R_{\oplus}$ ($\sim$1.9%). Our mass and radius measurements imply a mean density of $\rho_b=2.65_{-0.35}^{+0.37}$ g cm$^{-3}$ ($\sim$14%). We further inferred the planetary structure and found that TOI-1055 b is very likely to host a substantial gas envelope with a mass of $0.41^{+0.34}_{-0.20}$ M$_\oplus$ and a thickness of $1.05^{+0.30}_{-0.29}$ R$_\oplus$., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, 5 tables. We report the discovery and confirmation of the planetary system TOI-1288. This late G dwarf harbours two planets: TOI-1288 b and TOI-1288 c. We combine TESS space-borne and ground-based transit photometry with HARPS-N and HIRES high-precision Doppler measurements, which we use to constrain the masses of both planets in the system and the radius of planet b. TOI-1288~b has a period of $2.699835^{+0.000004}_{-0.000003}$ d, a radius of $5.24 \pm 0.09$ R$_\oplus$, and a mass of $42 \pm 3$ M$_\oplus$, making this planet a hot transiting super-Neptune situated right in the Neptunian desert. This desert refers to a paucity of Neptune-sized planets on short period orbits. Our 2.4-year-long Doppler monitoring of TOI-1288 revealed the presence of a Saturn-mass planet on a moderately eccentric orbit ($0.13^{+0.07}_{-0.09}$) with a minimum mass of $84 \pm 7$ M$_\oplus$ and a period of $443^{+11}_{-13}$ d. The 5 sectors worth of TESS data do not cover our expected mid-transit time for TOI-1288 c, and we do not detect a transit for this planet in these sectors., Comment: 16 pages, 17 figures, under review MNRAS

The current architecture of a given multi-planetary system is a key fingerprint of its past formation and dynamical evolution history. Long-term follow-up observations are key to complete their picture. In this paper we focus on the confirmation and characterization of the components of the TOI-969 planetary system, where TESS detected a Neptune-size planet candidate in a very close-in orbit around a late K-dwarf star. We use a set of precise radial velocity observations from HARPS, PFS and CORALIE instruments covering more than two years in combination with the TESS photometric light curve and other ground-based follow-up observations to confirm and characterize the components of this planetary system. We find that TOI-969 b is a transiting close-in ($P_b\sim 1.82$ days) mini-Neptune planet ($m_b=9.1^{+1.1}_{-1.0}$ M$_{\oplus}$, $R_b=2.765^{+0.088}_{-0.097}$ R$_{\oplus}$), thus placing it on the {lower boundary} of the hot-Neptune desert ($T_{\rm eq,b}=941\pm31$ K). The analysis of its internal structure shows that TOI-969 b is a volatile-rich planet, suggesting it underwent an inward migration. The radial velocity model also favors the presence of a second massive body in the system, TOI-969 c, with a long period of $P_c=1700^{+290}_{-280}$ days and a minimum mass of $m_{c}\sin{i_c}=11.3^{+1.1}_{-0.9}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$, and with a highly-eccentric orbit of $e_c=0.628^{+0.043}_{-0.036}$. The TOI-969 planetary system is one of the few around K-dwarfs known to have this extended configuration going from a very close-in planet to a wide-separation gaseous giant. TOI-969 b has a transmission spectroscopy metric of 93, and it orbits a moderately bright ($G=11.3$ mag) star, thus becoming an excellent target for atmospheric studies. Aim: We aim to refine the orbital and physical parameters and determine the sky-projected planet orbital obliquity of five eccentric transiting planetary systems: HAT-P-15, HAT-P-17, HAT-P-21, HAT-P-26, and HAT-P-29. Each of the systems hosts a hot Jupiter, except for HAT-P-26 which hosts a Neptune-mass planet. Methods: We observed transit events of these planets with the HARPS-N spectrograph, obtaining high-precision radial velocity measurements that allow us to measure the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect for each of the target systems. We used these new HARPS-N spectra and archival data, including those from Gaia, to better characterise the stellar atmospheric parameters. The photometric parameters for four of the hot Jupiters were recalculated using 17 new transit light curves, obtained with an array of medium-class telescopes, and data from the TESS space telescope. HATNet time-series photometric data were checked for the signatures of rotation periods of the target stars and their spin axis inclination. Results: From the analysis of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect, we derived a sky-projected obliquity of 13, -26.3, -0.7, -26 degree for HAT-P-15b, HAT-P-17b, HAT-P-21b and HAT-P-29b, respectively. Due to the quality of the data, we were not able to well constrain the sky-projected obliquity for HAT-P-26b, although a prograde orbit is favoured. The stellar activity of HAT-P-21 indicates a rotation period of 15.88 days, which allowed us to determine its true misalignment angle (25 degree). Our new analysis of the physical parameters of the five exoplanetary systems returned values compatible with those existing in the literature. Using TESS and the available transit light curves, we reviewed the orbital ephemeris for the five systems and confirmed that the HAT-P-26 system shows transit timing variations, which may tentatively be attributed to the presence of a third body., Comment: 31 pages, 16 figures, Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

We report the discovery of TOI-1268b, a transiting Saturn-mass planet from the TESS space mission. With an age of less than one Gyr, derived from various age indicators, TOI-1268b is the youngest Saturn-mass planet known to date and contributes to the small sample of well characterised young planets. It has an orbital period of $P\,=\,8.1577080\pm0.0000044$ days, and transits an early K dwarf star with a mass of $M_\star$ = $ 0.96 \pm 0.04$ $M_{\odot}$, a radius of $R_\star$ = $ 0.92 \pm 0.06$ $R_{\odot}$, an effective temperature of $T_\mathrm{eff}\,=\,5300\pm100$ K, and a metallicity of $0.36\pm0.06$ dex. By combining TESS photometry with high-resolution spectra acquired with the Tull spectrograph at McDonald observatory, and the high-resolution spectrographs at Tautenburg and Ondrejov observatories, we measured a planetary mass of $M_\mathrm{p}\,=\,96.4 \pm 8.3\,M_{\oplus}$ and a radius of $R_\mathrm{p}\,=\,9.1 \pm 0.6\,R_{\oplus}$. TOI-1268 is an ideal system to study the role of star-planet tidal interactions for non-inflated Saturn-mass planets. We used system parameters derived in this paper to constrain the planet tidal quality factor to the range of $10^{4.5-5.3}$. We present the discovery and characterisation of two transiting planets observed by \textit{TESS} in the light curves of the young and bright (V=9.67) star HD73583 (TOI-560). We perform an intensive spectroscopic and photometric space- and ground-based follow-up in order to confirm and characterise the system. We found that HD73583 is a young ($\sim 500$~Myr) active star with a rotational period of $12.08 \pm 0.11 $\,d, and a mass and radius of $ 0.73 \pm 0.02 M_\odot$ and $0.65 \pm 0.02 R_\odot$, respectively. HD73583 b ($P_b=6.3980420 _{ - 0.0000062 }^{+0.0000067}$ d) has a mass and radius of $10.2 _{-3.1}^{+3.4} M_\oplus$ and$2.79 \pm 0.10 R_\oplus$, respectively, that gives a density of $2.58 _{-0.81}^{ 0.95} {\rm g\,cm^{-3}}$. HD73583 c ($P_c= 18.87974 _{-0.00074 }^{+0.00086}$) has a mass and radius of $9.7_{-1.7} ^ {+1.8} M_\oplus$ and $2.39_{-0.09}^{+0.10} R_\oplus$, respectively, this translates to a density of $3.88 _{-0.80}^{+0.91} {\rm g\,cm^{-3}}$. Both planets are consistent with worlds made of a solid core surrounded by a volatile envelope. Because of their youth and host star brightness, they both are excellent candidates to perform transmission spectroscopy studies. We expect ongoing atmospheric mass-loss for both planets caused by stellar irradiation. We estimate that the detection of evaporating signatures on H and He would be challenging, but doable with present and future instruments., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

[abridged] We analyse four transits of WASP-33b observed with the optical high-resolution HARPS-N spectrograph to confirm its nodal precession, study its atmosphere and investigate the presence of star-planet interactions.We extract the mean line profiles of the spectra by using the LSD method, and analyse the Doppler shadow and the RVs. We also derive the transmission spectrum of the planet, correcting it for the stellar contamination due to rotation, CLV and pulsations. We confirm the previously discovered nodal precession of WASP-33b, almost doubling the time coverage of the inclination and projected spin-orbit angle variation. We find that the projected obliquity reached a minimum in 2011 and use this constraint to derive the geometry of the system, in particular its obliquity at that epoch ($\epsilon=113.99^{\circ}\pm 0.22^{\circ}$) and the inclination of the stellar spin axis ($i_{\rm s}=90.11^{\circ}\pm 0.12^{\circ}$), as well as the gravitational quadrupole moment of the star $J_2=(6.73\pm 0.22)\times 10^{-5}$. We present detections of H$\alpha$ and H$\beta$ absorption in the atmosphere of the planet with a contrast almost twice smaller than previously detected in the literature. We also find evidence for the presence of a pre-transit signal, which repeats in all four analysed transits. The most likely explanation lies in a possible excitation of a stellar pulsation mode by the presence of the planetary companion. Future common analysis of all available datasets in the literature will help shedding light on the possibility that the observed Balmer lines transit depth variations are related to stellar activity and/or pulsation, and to set constraints on the energetics possibly driving atmospheric escape. A complete orbital phase coverage of WASP-33b with high-resolution spectroscopic (spectro-polarimetric) observations could help understanding the nature of the pre-transit signal., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

In this paper we report the discovery of TOI-220 $b$, a new sub-Neptune detected by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and confirmed by radial velocity follow-up observations with the HARPS spectrograph. Based on the combined analysis of TESS transit photometry and high precision radial velocity measurements we estimate a planetary mass of 13.8 $\pm$ 1.0 M$_{Earth}$ and radius of 3.03 $\pm$ 0.15 R$_{Earth}$, implying a bulk density of 2.73 $\pm$ 0.47 $\textrm{g cm}^{-3}$. TOI-220 $b$ orbits a relative bright (V=10.4) and old (10.1$\pm$1.4 Gyr) K dwarf star with a period of $\sim$10.69 d. Thus, TOI-220 $b$ is a new warm sub-Neptune with very precise mass and radius determinations. A Bayesian analysis of the TOI-220 $b$ internal structure indicates that due to the strong irradiation it receives, the low density of this planet could be explained with a steam atmosphere in radiative-convective equilibrium and a supercritical water layer on top of a differentiated interior made of a silicate mantle and a small iron core., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present 3D calculations for dielectric haloscopes such as the currently envisioned MADMAX experiment. For ideal systems with perfectly flat, parallel and isotropic dielectric disks of finite diameter, we find that a geometrical form factor reduces the emitted power by up to $30\,\%$ compared to earlier 1D calculations. We derive the emitted beam shape, which is important for antenna design. We show that realistic dark matter axion velocities of $10^{-3} c$ and inhomogeneities of the external magnetic field at the scale of $10\,\%$ have negligible impact on the sensitivity of MADMAX. We investigate design requirements for which the emitted power changes by less than $20\,\%$ for a benchmark boost factor with a bandwidth of $50\,{\rm MHz}$ at $22\,{\rm GHz}$, corresponding to an axion mass of $90\,\mu{\rm eV}$. We find that the maximum allowed disk tilt is $100\,\mu{\rm m}$ divided by the disk diameter, the required disk planarity is $20\,\mu{\rm m}$ (min-to-max) or better, and the maximum allowed surface roughness is $100\,\mu{\rm m}$ (min-to-max). We present the discovery and characterization of two sub-Neptunes in close orbits, as well as a tentative outer planet of a similar size, orbiting TOI-1260 - a low metallicity K6V dwarf star. Photometry from TESS yields radii of $R_{\rm b} = 2.33 \pm 0.10$ $R_{\oplus}$ and $R_{\rm c} = 2.82 \pm 0.15$ $R_{\oplus}$, and periods of 3.13 and 7.49 days for TOI-1260b and TOI-1260c, respectively. We combined the TESS data with a series of ground-based follow-up observations to characterize the planetary system. From HARPS-N high-precision radial velocities we obtain $M_{\rm b} = 8.61_{ - 1.46 } ^ { + 1.36 }$ $M_{\oplus}$ and $M_{\rm c} = 11.84_{ - 3.23 } ^ { + 3.38 }$ $M_{\oplus}$. The star is moderately active with a complex activity pattern, which necessitated the use of Gaussian process regression for both the light curve detrending and the radial velocity modelling, in the latter case guided by suitable activity indicators. We successfully disentangle the stellar-induced signal from the planetary signals, underlining the importance and usefulness of the Gaussian Process approach. We test the system's stability against atmospheric photoevaporation and find that the TOI-1260 planets are classic examples of the structure and composition ambiguity typical for the $2-3$ $R_{\oplus}$ range.

We report on precise Doppler measurements of L231-32 (TOI-270), a nearby M dwarf ($d=22$ pc, $M_\star = 0.39$ M$_\odot$, $R_\star = 0.38$ R$_\odot$), which hosts three transiting planets that were recently discovered using data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). The three planets are 1.2, 2.4, and 2.1 times the size of Earth and have orbital periods of 3.4, 5.7, and 11.4 days. We obtained 29 high-resolution optical spectra with the newly commissioned Echelle Spectrograph for Rocky Exoplanet and Stable Spectroscopic Observations (ESPRESSO) and 58 spectra using the High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS). From these observations, we find the masses of the planets to be $1.58 \pm 0.26$, $6.15 \pm 0.37$, and $4.78 \pm 0.43$ M$_\oplus$, respectively. The combination of radius and mass measurements suggests that the innermost planet has a rocky composition similar to that of Earth, while the outer two planets have lower densities. Thus, the inner planet and the outer planets are on opposite sides of the `radius valley' -- a region in the radius-period diagram with relatively few members, which has been interpreted as a consequence of atmospheric photo-evaporation. We place these findings into the context of other small close-in planets orbiting M dwarf stars, and use support vector machines to determine the location and slope of the M dwarf ($T_\mathrm{eff} < 4000$ K) radius valley as a function of orbital period. We compare the location of the M dwarf radius valley to the radius valley observed for FGK stars, and find that its location is a good match to photo-evaporation and core-powered mass loss models. Finally, we show that planets below the M dwarf radius valley have compositions consistent with stripped rocky cores, whereas most planets above have a lower density consistent with the presence of a H-He atmosphere., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Paris (PArallel, Robust, Interface Simulator) is a finite volume code for simulations of immiscible multifluid or multiphase flows. It is based on the "one-fluid" formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations where different fluids are treated as one material with variable properties, and surface tension is added as a singular interface force. The fluid equations are solved on a regular structured staggered grid using an explicit projection method with a first-order or second-order time integration scheme. The interface separating the different fluids is tracked by a Front-Tracking (FT) method, where the interface is represented by connected marker points, or by a Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) method, where the marker function is advected directly on the fixed grid. Paris is written in Fortran95/2002 and parallelized using MPI and domain decomposition. It is based on several earlier FT or VOF codes such as Ftc3D, Surfer or Gerris. These codes and similar ones, as well as Paris, have been used to simulate a wide range of multifluid and multiphase flows.

The analysis of exoplanetary atmospheres by means of high-resolution spectroscopy is an expanding research field which provides information on chemical composition, thermal structure, atmospheric dynamics and orbital velocity of exoplanets. In this work, we aim at the detection of the light reflected by the exoplanet 51~Peg~b employing optical high-resolution spectroscopy. To detect the light reflected by the planetary dayside we use optical HARPS and HARPS-N spectra taken near the superior conjunction of the planet, when the flux contrast between the planet and the star is maximum. To search for the weak planetary signal, we cross-correlate the observed spectra with a high S/N stellar spectrum. We homogeneously analyze the available datasets and derive a $10^{-5}$ upper limit on the planet-to-star flux contrast in the optical. The upper limit on the planet-to-star flux contrast of $10^{-5}$ translates into a low albedo of the planetary atmosphere ($\rm A_g\lesssim0.05-0.15$ for an assumed planetary radius in the range $\rm 1.5-0.9~R_{Jup}$, as estimated from the planet's mass).

Aims. We study the 2D spectral line profile of HARPS (High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher), measuring its variation with position across the detector and with changing line intensity. The characterization of the line profile and its variations are important for achieving the precision of the wavelength scales of 10^{-10} or 3.0 cm/s necessary to detect Earth-twins in the habitable zone around solar-like stars. Methods. We used a laser frequency comb (LFC) with unresolved and unblended lines to probe the instrument line profile. We injected the LFC light (attenuated by various neutral density filters) into both the object and the reference fibres of HARPS, and we studied the variations of the line profiles with the line intensities. We applied moment analysis to measure the line positions, widths, and skewness as well as to characterize the line profile distortions induced by the spectrograph and detectors. Based on this, we established a model to correct for point spread function distortions by tracking the beam profiles in both fibres. Results. We demonstrate that the line profile varies with the position on the detector and as a function of line intensities. This is consistent with a charge transfer inefficiency (CTI) effect on the HARPS detector. The estimate of the line position depends critically on the line profile, and therefore a change in the line amplitude effectively changes the measured position of the lines, affecting the stability of the wavelength scale of the instrument. The General Theory of Relativity predicts the redshift of spectral lines in the solar photosphere, as a consequence of the gravitational potential of the Sun. This effect can be measured from a solar disk-integrated flux spectrum of the Sun's reflected light on solar system bodies. The laser frequency comb (LFC) calibration system attached to the HARPS spectrograph offers the possibility to perform an accurate measurement of the solar gravitational redshift (GRS) by observing the Moon or other solar system bodies. We have analysed the line shift observed in Fe absorption lines from five high-quality HARPS-LFC spectra of the Moon. We select an initial sample of 326 photospheric Fe lines in the spectral range 476-585 nm and measure their line positions and equivalent widths (EWs). Accurate line shifts are derived from the wavelength position of the core of the lines compared with the laboratory wavelengths. We fit the observed spectral Fe lines using CO$^5$BOLD 3D synthetic profiles. Convective motions in the solar photosphere do not affect the line cores of Fe lines stronger than about $\sim 150$ mA. In our sample, only 15 FeI lines have EWs in the range $150 <$ EW(mA) $< 550$, providing a measurement of the solar GRS at $639\pm14$ ${\rm m\;s^{-1}}$, consistent with the expected theoretical value on Earth of $\sim 633.1$ ${\rm m\;s^{-1}}$. A final sample of about 97 weak Fe lines with EW $<180$ mA allows us to derive a mean global line shift of $638\pm6$ ${\rm m\;s^{-1}}$ in agreement with the theoretical solar GRS. These are the most accurate measurements of the solar GRS so far. Ultrastable spectrographs calibrated with the LFC over a larger spectral range, such as HARPS or ESPRESSO, together with a further improvement on the laboratory wavelengths, could provide a more robust measurement of the solar GRS and further tests for the 3D hydrodynamical models., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy & Astrophysics

We report the discovery and characterization of two transiting planets around the bright M1 V star LP 961-53 (TOI-776, J = 8.5 mag, M = 0.54+-0.03 Msun) detected during Sector 10 observations of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Combining the TESS photometry with HARPS radial velocities, as well as ground-based follow-up transit observations from MEarth and LCOGT telescopes, we measured for the inner planet, TOI-776 b, a period of 8.25 d, a radius of 1.85+-0.13 Re, and a mass of 4.0+-0.9 Me; and for the outer planet, TOI-776 c, a period of 15.66 d, a radius of 2.02+-0.14 Re, and a mass of 5.3+-1.8 Me. The Doppler data shows one additional signal, with a period of 34 d, associated with the rotational period of the star. The analysis of fifteen years of ground-based photometric monitoring data and the inspection of different spectral line indicators confirm this assumption. The bulk densities of TOI-776 b and c allow for a wide range of possible interior and atmospheric compositions. However, both planets have retained a significant atmosphere, with slightly different envelope mass fractions. Thanks to their location near the radius gap for M dwarfs, we can start to explore the mechanism(s) responsible for the radius valley emergence around low-mass stars as compared to solar-like stars. While a larger sample of well-characterized planets in this parameter space is still needed to draw firm conclusions, we tentatively estimate that the stellar mass below which thermally-driven mass loss is no longer the main formation pathway for sculpting the radius valley is between 0.63 and 0.54 Msun. Due to the brightness of the star, the TOI-776 system is also an excellent target for the James Webb Space Telescope, providing a remarkable laboratory to break the degeneracy in planetary interior models and to test formation and evolution theories of small planets around low-mass stars., Comment: 26 pages, 15 figures, 8 tables. We report the discovery of a planetary system orbiting TOI-763 (aka CD-39 7945), a $V=10.2$, high proper motion G-type dwarf star that was photometrically monitored by the TESS space mission in Sector 10. We obtain and model the stellar spectrum and find an object slightly smaller than the Sun, and somewhat older, but with a similar metallicity. Two planet candidates were found in the light curve to be transiting the star. Combining TESS transit photometry with HARPS high-precision radial velocity follow-up measurements confirm the planetary nature of these transit signals. We determine masses, radii, and bulk densities of these two planets. A third planet candidate was discovered serendipitously in the radial velocity data. The inner transiting planet,TOI-763 b, has an orbital period of $P_\mathrm{b}$ = 5.6~days, a mass of $M_\mathrm{b}$ = $9.8\pm0.8$ $M_\oplus$, and a radius of $R_\mathrm{b}$ = $2.37\pm0.10$ $R_\oplus$. The second transiting planet,TOI-763 c, has an orbital period of $P_\mathrm{c}$ = 12.3~days, a mass of $M_\mathrm{c}$ = $9.3\pm1.0$ $M_\oplus$, and a radius of $R_\mathrm{c}$ = $2.87\pm0.11$ $R_\oplus$. We find the outermost planet candidate to orbit the star with a period of $\sim$48~days. If confirmed as a planet it would have a minimum mass of $M_\mathrm{d}$ = $9.5\pm1.6$ $M_\oplus$. We investigated the TESS light curve in order to search for a mono transit by planet~d without success. We discuss the importance and implications of this planetary system in terms of the geometrical arrangements of planets orbiting G-type stars.

Exoplanets orbiting very close to their host star are strongly irradiated. This can lead the upper atmospheric layers to expand and evaporate into space. The metastable helium (HeI) triplet at 1083.3nm has recently been shown to be a powerful diagnostic to probe extended and escaping exoplanetary atmosphere. We perform high-resolution transmission spectroscopy of the transiting hot Jupiter HD189733b with the GIARPS (GIANO-B + HARPS-N) observing mode of the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, taking advantage of the simultaneous optical+near infrared spectral coverage to detect HeI in the planet's extended atmosphere and to gauge the impact of stellar magnetic activity on the planetary absorption signal. Observations were performed during five transit events of HD189733b. By comparison of the in- and out-of-transit GIANO-B observations we compute high-resolution transmission spectra, on which we perform equivalent width measurements and light-curves analyses to gauge the excess in-transit absorption in the HeI triplet. We detect an absorption signal during all five transits. The mean in-transit absorption depth amounts to 0.75+/-0.03%. We detect night-to-night variations in the HeI absorption signal likely due to the transit events occurring in presence of stellar surface inhomogeneities. We evaluate the impact of stellar-activity pseudo-signals on the true planetary absorption using a comparative analysis of the HeI and the H$\alpha$ lines. We interpret the time-series of the HeI absorption lines in the three nights not affected by stellar contamination -exhibiting a mean in-transit absorption depth of 0.77+/-0.04%- using a 3-d atmospheric code. Our simulations suggest that the helium layers only fill part of the Roche lobe. Observations can be explained with a thermosphere heated to $\sim$12000 K, expanding up to $\sim$1.2 planetary radii, and losing $\sim$1 g/s of metastable helium., Comment: 17 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

The existence of hot Jupiters is still not well understood. Two main channels are thought to be responsible for their current location: a smooth planet migration through the proto-planetary disk or the circularization of an initial high eccentric orbit by tidal dissipation leading to a strong decrease of the semimajor axis. Different formation scenarios result in different observable effects, such as orbital parameters (obliquity/eccentricity), or frequency of planets at different stellar ages. In the context of the GAPS Young-Objects project, we are carrying out a radial velocity survey with the aim to search and characterize young hot-Jupiter planets. Our purpose is to put constraints on evolutionary models and establish statistical properties, such as the frequency of these planets from a homogeneous sample. Since young stars are in general magnetically very active, we performed multi-band (visible and near-infrared) spectroscopy with simultaneous GIANO-B + HARPS-N (GIARPS) observing mode at TNG. This helps to deal with stellar activity and distinguish the nature of radial velocity variations: stellar activity will introduce a wavelength-dependent radial velocity amplitude, whereas a Keplerian signal is achromatic. As a pilot study, we present here the cases of two already claimed hot Jupiters orbiting young stars: HD285507 b and AD Leo b. Our analysis of simultaneous high-precision GIARPS spectroscopic data confirms the Keplerian nature of HD285507's radial velocities variation and refines the orbital parameters of the hot Jupiter, obtaining an eccentricity consistent with a circular orbit. On the other hand, our analysis does not confirm the signal previously attributed to a planet orbiting AD Leo. This demonstrates the power of the multi-band spectroscopic technique when observing active stars.

We report the discovery of a new planetary system with three transiting planets, one super-Earth and two sub-Neptunes, that orbit EPIC\,249893012, a G8\,IV-V evolved star ($M_\star$\,=\,1.05\,$\pm$\,0.05\,$M_\odot$, $R_\star$\,=\,1.71\,$\pm$\,0.04\,$R_\odot$, $T_\mathrm{eff}$\,=5430\,$\pm$\,85\,K). The star is just leaving the main sequence. We combined \ktwo \ photometry with IRCS adaptive-optics imaging and HARPS, HARPS-N, and CARMENES high-precision radial velocity measurements to confirm the planetary system, determine the stellar parameters, and measure radii, masses, and densities of the three planets. With an orbital period of $3.5949^{+0.0007}_{-0.0007}$ days, a mass of $8.75^{+1.09}_{-1.08}\ M_{\oplus}$ , and a radius of $1.95^{+0.09}_{-0.08}\ R_{\oplus}$, the inner planet b is compatible with nickel-iron core and a silicate mantle ($\rho_b= 6.39^{+1.19}_{-1.04}$ g cm$^{-3}$). Planets c and d with orbital periods of $15.624^{+0.001}_{-0.001}$ and $35.747^{+0.005}_{-0.005}$ days, respectively, have masses and radii of $14.67^{+1,84}_{-1.89}\ M_{\oplus}$ and $3.67^{+0.17}_{-0.14}\ R_{\oplus}$ and $10.18^{+2.46}_{-2.42}\ M_{\oplus}$ and $3.94^{+0.13}_{-0.12}\ R_{\oplus}$, respectively, yielding a mean density of $1.62^{+0.30}_{-0.29}$ and $0.91^{+0.25}_{-0.23}$ g cm$^{-3}$, respectively. The radius of planet b lies in the transition region between rocky and gaseous planets, but its density is consistent with a rocky composition. Its semimajor axis and the corresponding photoevaporation levels to which the planet has been exposed might explain its measured density today. In contrast, the densities and semimajor axes of planets c and d suggest a very thick atmosphere. The singularity of this system, which orbits a slightly evolved star that is just leaving the main sequence, makes it a good candidate for a deeper study from a dynamical point of view., Comment: Accepted for publication in A\& A

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, TESS, is currently carrying out an all-sky search for small planets transiting bright stars. In the first year of the TESS survey, steady progress was made in achieving the mission's primary science goal of establishing bulk densities for 50 planets smaller than Neptune. During that year, TESS's observations were focused on the southern ecliptic hemisphere, resulting in the discovery of three mini-Neptunes orbiting the star TOI-125, a V=11.0 K0 dwarf. We present intensive HARPS radial velocity observations, yielding precise mass measurements for TOI-125b, TOI-125c and TOI-125d. TOI-125b has an orbital period of 4.65 days, a radius of $2.726 \pm 0.075 ~\mathrm{R_{\rm E}}$, a mass of $ 9.50 \pm 0.88 ~\mathrm{M_{\rm E}}$ and is near the 2:1 mean motion resonance with TOI-125c at 9.15 days. TOI-125c has a similar radius of $2.759 \pm 0.10 ~\mathrm{R_{\rm E}}$ and a mass of $ 6.63 \pm 0.99 ~\mathrm{M_{\rm E}}$, being the puffiest of the three planets. TOI-125d, has an orbital period of 19.98 days and a radius of $2.93 \pm 0.17~\mathrm{R_{\rm E}}$ and mass $13.6 \pm 1.2 ~\mathrm{M_{\rm E}}$. For TOI-125b and TOI-125d we find unusual high eccentricities of $0.19\pm 0.04$ and $0.17^{+0.08}_{-0.06}$, respectively. Our analysis also provides upper mass limits for the two low-SNR planet candidates in the system; for TOI-125.04 ($R_P=1.36 ~\mathrm{R_{\rm E}}$, $P=$0.53 days) we find a $2\sigma$ upper mass limit of $1.6~\mathrm{M_{\rm E}}$, whereas TOI-125.05 ( $R_P=4.2^{+2.4}_{-1.4} ~\mathrm{R_{\rm E}}$, $P=$ 13.28 days) is unlikely a viable planet candidate with upper mass limit $2.7~\mathrm{M_{\rm E}}$. We investigate the dynamics of the bistable regime of the generalized Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian (GJC), realised by a circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) system consisting of a transmon qubit coupled to a microwave cavity. In this regime we observe critical slowing down in the approach to the steady state. By measuring the response of the cavity to a step function drive pulse we characterize this slowing down as a function of driving frequency and power. We find that the critical slowing down saturates as the driving power is increased. We compare these results with the predictions of analytical and numerical calculations both with and without the Duffing approximation. We find that the Duffing approximation incorrectly predicts that the critical slowing down timescale increases exponentially with the drive, whereas the GJC model accurately predicts the saturation seen in our data, suggesting a different process of quantum activation.

In the framework of the GAPS project, we observed the planet-hosting star KELT-9 (A-type star, VsinI$\sim$110 km/s) with the HARPS-N spectrograph at the TNG. In this work we analyse the spectra and the extracted radial velocities (RVs), to constrain the physical parameters of the system and to detect the planetary atmosphere of KELT-9b. We extracted from the high-resolution optical spectra the mean stellar line profiles with an analysis based on the Least Square Deconvolution technique. Then, we computed the stellar RVs with a method optimized for fast rotators, by fitting the mean stellar line profile with a purely rotational profile instead of using a Gaussian function. The new spectra and analysis led us to update the orbital and physical parameters of the system, improving in particular the value of the planetary mass to $M_{\rm p}=2.88\pm0.35\,M_{\rm Jup}$. We discovered an anomalous in-transit RV deviation from the theoretical Rossiter-McLaughlin effect solution, calculated from the projected spin-orbit angle $\lambda=-85.78\pm0.46$ degrees measured with Doppler tomography. We prove that this deviation is caused by the planetary atmosphere of KELT-9b, thus we name this effect Atmospheric Rossiter-McLaughlin effect. By analysing the magnitude of the RV anomaly, we obtained information on the extension of the planetary atmosphere as weighted by the model used to retrieve the stellar mean line profiles, which is up to $1.22\pm0.02\,R_{\rm p}$. The Atmospheric Rossiter-McLaughlin effect will be observable for other exoplanets whose atmosphere has non-negligible correlation with the stellar mask used to retrieve the RVs, in particular ultra-hot Jupiters with iron in their atmosphere. The duration and amplitude of the effect will depend not only on the extension of the atmosphere, but also on the in-transit planetary RVs and on the projected rotational velocity of the parent star., Comment: accepted for publication in A&A. Quantum computation requires the precise control of the evolution of a quantum system, typically through application of discrete quantum logic gates on a set of qubits. Here, we use the cross-resonance interaction to implement a gate between two superconducting transmon qubits with a direct static dispersive coupling. We demonstrate a practical calibration procedure for the optimization of the gate, combining continuous and repeated-gate Hamiltonian tomography with step-wise reduction of dominant two-qubit coherent errors through mapping to microwave control parameters. We show experimentally that this procedure can enable a $\hat{ZX}_{-\pi/2}$ gate with a fidelity $F=97.0(7)\%$, measured with interleaved randomized benchmarking. We show this in a architecture with out-of-plane control and readout that is readily extensible to larger scale quantum circuits., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, 1 table

The origin of the observed diversity of planetary system architectures is one of the main topic of the exoplanetary research. The detection of a statistically significant sample of planets around young stars allows us to study the early stages of planet formation and evolution, but only a handful of them is known so far. In this regard, a considerable contribution is expected from the NASA TESS satellite, which is now performing a survey of $\sim 85 \%$ of the sky to search for short-period transiting planets In its first month of operations, TESS found a planet candidate with an orbital period of 8.14 days around a member of the Tuc-Hor young association ($\sim$ 40 Myr), the G6V main component of the binary system DS\,Tuc. If confirmed, it would be the first transiting planet around a young star suitable for radial velocity and/or atmospheric characterization. We aim to validate the planetary nature of this companion and to measure its orbital and physical parameters. We obtain accurate planet parameters by coupling an independent reprocessing of the TESS light curve with improved stellar parameters and the dilution caused by the binary companion; we analyse high precision archival radial velocities to impose an upper limit of about 0.1 M$_{\rm Jup}$ on the planet mass; we finally rule out the presence of external companions beyond 40 au with adaptive optics images. We confirm the presence of a young, giant (${\rm R} = 0.50$ R$_{\rm Jup}$) planet having a not negligible possibility to be inflated (theoretical mass $\lesssim 20$ M$_{\oplus}$) around DS\,Tuc~A. We report the discovery of two transiting planets orbiting K2-290 (EPIC 249624646), a bright (V=11.11) late F-type star residing in a triple-star system. It was observed during Campaign 15 of the K2 mission, and in order to confirm and characterise the system, follow-up spectroscopy and AO imaging were carried out using the FIES, HARPS, HARPS-N, and IRCS instruments. From AO imaging and Gaia data we identify two M-dwarf companions at a separation of $113 \pm 2$ AU and $2467_{-155}^{+177}$ AU. From radial velocities, K2 photometry, and stellar characterisation of the host star, we find the inner planet to be a mini-Neptune with a radius of $3.06 \pm 0.16 R_{\oplus}$ and an orbital period of $P = 9.2$ days. The radius of the mini-Neptune suggests that the planet is located above the radius valley, and with an incident flux of $F\sim 400 F_{\oplus}$, it lies safely outside the super-Earth desert. The outer warm Jupiter has a mass of $0.774\pm 0.047 M_{\rm J}$ and a radius of $1.006\pm 0.050R_{\rm J}$, and orbits the host star every 48.4 days on an orbit with an eccentricity $e<0.241$. Its mild eccentricity and mini-Neptune sibling suggest that the warm Jupiter originates from in situ formation or disk migration., Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS. We present the discovery and characterization of a new transiting planet from Campaign 17 of the Kepler extended mission K2. HD 119130 b is a warm sub-Neptune on a 17-d orbit around a bright (V = 9.9 mag) solar-like G3 V star with a mass and radius of $M_\star = 1.00\pm0.03\,\mathrm{M_\odot}$ and $R_\star = 1.09\pm0.03\,\mathrm{R_\odot}$, respectively. We model simultaneously the K2 photometry and CARMENES spectroscopic data and derive a radius of $R_\mathrm{p} = 2.63_{-0.10}^{+0.12}\,\mathrm{R_\oplus}$ and mass of $M_\mathrm{p} = 24.5_{-4.4}^{+4.4}\,\mathrm{M_\oplus}$, yielding a mean density of $\rho_\mathrm{p} = 7.4_{-1.5}^{+1.6}\,\mathrm{g\,cm^{-3}}$, which makes it one of the densest sub-Neptune planets known to date. We also detect a linear trend in radial velocities of HD 119130 ($\dot{\gamma}_{\rm RV}= -0.40^{+0.07}_{-0.07}\,\mathrm{m\,s^{-1}\,d^{-1}}$) that suggests a long-period companion with a minimum mass on the order of $33\,\mathrm{M_\oplus}$. The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a TeV-scale high-luminosity linear $e^+e^-$ collider under development at CERN. Following the CLIC conceptual design published in 2012, this report provides an overview of the CLIC project, its current status, and future developments. It presents the CLIC physics potential and reports on design, technology, and implementation aspects of the accelerator and the detector. CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in stages, at centre-of-mass energies of 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV, respectively. CLIC uses a two-beam acceleration scheme, in which 12 GHz accelerating structures are powered via a high-current drive beam. For the first stage, an alternative with X-band klystron powering is also considered. CLIC accelerator optimisation, technical developments and system tests have resulted in an increased energy efficiency (power around 170 MW) for the 380 GeV stage, together with a reduced cost estimate at the level of 6 billion CHF. The detector concept has been refined using improved software tools. Significant progress has been made on detector technology developments for the tracking and calorimetry systems. A wide range of CLIC physics studies has been conducted, both through full detector simulations and parametric studies, together providing a broad overview of the CLIC physics potential. Each of the three energy stages adds cornerstones of the full CLIC physics programme, such as Higgs width and couplings, top-quark properties, Higgs self-coupling, direct searches, and many precision electroweak measurements. The interpretation of the combined results gives crucial and accurate insight into new physics, largely complementary to LHC and HL-LHC. The construction of the first CLIC energy stage could start by 2026. We report on the confirmation and mass determination of a transiting planet orbiting the old and inactive G7 dwarf star HD219666 (Mstar = 0.92 +/- 0.03 MSun, Rstar = 1.03 +/- 0.03 RSun, tau_star = 10 +/- 2 Gyr). With a mass of Mb = 16.6 +/- 1.3 MEarth, a radius of Rb = 4.71 +/- 0.17 REarth, and an orbital period of P ~ 6 days, HD219666b is a new member of a rare class of exoplanets: the hot-Neptunes. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) observed HD219666 (also known as TOI-118) in its Sector 1 and the light curve shows four transit-like events, equally spaced in time. We confirmed the planetary nature of the candidate by gathering precise radial-velocity measurements with HARPS@ESO3.6m. We used the co-added HARPS spectrum to derive the host star fundamental parameters (Teff = 5527 +/- 65 K, log g = 4.40 +/- 0.11 (cgs), [Fe/H]= 0.04 +/- 0.04 dex, log R'HK = -5.07 +/- 0.03), as well as the abundances of many volatile and refractory elements. The host star brightness (V = 9.9) makes it suitable for further characterisation by means of in-transit spectroscopy. The determination of the planet orbital obliquity, along with the atmospheric metal-to-hydrogen content and thermal structure could provide us with important clues on the formation mechanisms of this class of objects., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

The computation of flows with large density contrasts is notoriously difficult. To alleviate the difficulty we consider a discretization of the Navier-Stokes equation that advects mass and momentum in a consistent manner. Incompressible flow with capillary forces is modeled and the discretization is performed on a staggered grid of Marker and Cell type. The Volume-of-Fluid method is used to track the interface and a Height-Function method is used to compute surface tension. The advection of the volume fraction is performed using either the Lagrangian-Explicit / CIAM (Calcul d'Interface Affine par Morceaux) method or the Weymouth and Yue (WY) Eulerian-Implicit method. The WY method conserves fluid mass to machine accuracy provided incompressibility is satisfied. To improve the stability of these methods momentum fluxes are advected in a manner "consistent" with the volume-fraction fluxes, that is a discontinuity of the momentum is advected at the same speed as a discontinuity of the density. To find the density on the staggered cells on which the velocity is centered, an auxiliary reconstruction of the density is performed. The method is tested for a droplet without surface tension in uniform flow, for a droplet suddenly accelerated in a carrying gas at rest at very large density ratio without viscosity or surface tension, for the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, for a 3mm-diameter falling raindrop and for an atomizing flow in air-water conditions.

Statistical studies of exoplanets have shown that giant planets are more commonly hosted by metal-rich dwarf stars than low-metallicity ones, while such a correlation is not evident for lower-mass planets. The search for giant planets around metal-poor stars and the estimate of their occurrence $f_p$ is an important element in providing support to models of planet formation. We present results from the HARPS-N search for giant planets orbiting metal-poor ($-1.0\leq[Fe/H]\leq-0.5$ dex) stars in the northern hemisphere complementing a previous HARPS survey on southern stars in order to update the estimate of $f_p$. High-precision HARPS-N observations of 42 metal-poor stars are used to search for planetary signals to be fitted using differential evolution MCMC single-Keplerian models. We then join our detections to the results of the previous HARPS survey on 88 metal-poor stars to provide a preliminar estimate of the two-hemisphere $f_p$. We report the detection of two new giant planets around HD 220197 and HD 233832. The first companion has M$\sin{i}=0.20_{-0.04}^{+0.07}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$ and orbital period of $1728_{-80}^{+162}$ days, and for the second companion we find two solutions of equal statistical weight having periods $2058_{-40}^{+47}$ and $4047_{-117}^{+91}$ days and minimum masses of $1.78_{-0.06}^{+0.08}$ and $2.72_{-0.23}^{+0.23}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$, respectively. Joining our two detections with the three from the southern survey we obtain a preliminary and conservative estimate of global frequency of $f_p=3.84_{-1.06}^{+2.45}\%$ for giant planets around metal-poor stars. The two new giant planets orbit dwarf stars at the metal-rich end of the HARPS-N metal-poor sample, corroborating previous results suggesting that giant planet frequency still is a rising function of host star [Fe/H].
