This study deals with the investigation into optimum insulation thickness of HVAC ducts and the effect of wind speed on it for the city of Uşak, Turkey. Optimum insulation thickness, energy savings over a lifetime of 10 years and payback periods are determined for the four different energy types as coal, fuel-oil, LPG and natural gas and two different insulation materials as fiberglass and rockwool. By using the P1-P2 method, the value of the amount of the net energy savings is calculated. The results indicate that optimum insulation thicknesses vary between 12.85 and 23.91 cm, energy savings 79.36 and 98.45%, and payback periods 0.0053 and 0.0925 years depending on the type of fuel for fiberglass, whereas, optimum insulation thicknesses vary between 11.87 and 22.21 cm, energy savings 76.63 and 98.26%, and payback periods 0.0061 and 0.1115 years depending on the type of fuel for rockwool. Moreover, 7 ms-1 wind speed for LPG is highest in energy saving but 0.2 ms-1 wind speed for natural gas is lowest in energy saving. Finally, the application of insulation in high wind speeds is more advantageous. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

Gasroşizis ve omfalosel karın ön duvarının en sık malformasyonlarındandır ve her ikisi de yüksek morbidite ve mortalite ile birliktedir. Bazen bu durumların tanısı hekimler için zor olmakta ve aile de farkına varamamaktadır. Bu makalede bir omfalosel ve bir gastroşizis vakasının iki ve üç boyutlu ultasonografik tanısal özellikleri sunulmuştur. Her iki durum ve bu durumların tanı ve tedavisinde üç boyutlu ultrasonografinin yeri ve klinik yönetimi tıbbi literatür ışığında tartışılmıştır. Üç boyutlu ultrasonografi omfalosel ve gastroşizisin tanı ve ağırlığını belirlemede yardımcıdır., Gastroschisis and omphalocele are the two of the most common malformations of the anterior abdominal wall that both of them associated with high morbidity and mortality. Sometimes the diagnosis and the realization of the situations by physicians and the parents are difficult. Herein, one omphalocele and one gastroschisis cases were presented with the two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasonographic diagnostic features. The two entities and the role of three-dimensional ultrasound in diagnosis and the clinical management of the situations are discussed in the view of medical literature. The three-dimensional ultrasound helps in the diagnosis and detection of the severity of the omphalocele and the gastroschisis.

In this study, the theoretical results of energy and exergy analyses of the chevron type heat exchanger are compared with experimental ones. A test ring is set up and water is used as working fluid. While mass flow rate of hot water was kept constant as 0.083 kg s-1, the mass flow rate of cold water varies from 0.027 kg s-1 to 0.083 kg s-1, the hot water temperature from 35 to 60 °C, cold water temperature from 21 to 25.35 °C in the experiments. The energy efficiency increases linearly with respect to hot water inlet temperature at the cold water mass flow rate values, however, in exergy efficiency, the optimum conditions comes out. Energy efficiency of the chevron type heat exchanger has the theoretical and experimental values ranging from 45% to 78%. When it comes to the exergy efficiency of the chevron type, the heat exchanger has the theoretical values ranging from 16% to 39.5% and experimental values from 13% to 47.8%. It is found that the theoretical results have a good agreement with the experimental ones. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Band saw machine are used for cutting natural stone. Band saw machine are connected on diamond -segment blades and cutting makes this tool. The diamond segments are forces various loads and undesirable damage to the diamond segment consequently occur. In this study, fracture behaviours of the diamond segmented band saw used in cutting process of natural stones are investigated as experimental and numerical studies. Firstly, cutting tests are make in the band saw machine and forces are obtained in depending on different cutting parameters (feed rate and cutting speed). Therefore, damaged diamond segment and bands are carried out test such as microscopy, microstructure, hardness, material composition and tensile test. In numerical studies, stress, fracture and fatigue analyses were performed the according to obtained experimentel date Franc 2DL program based on finite element methods was used in the analyses. Different cutting parameters and diamond segment heights were considred in the analyses. In the conclusion of the study, diamond segment fracture occur in the two important region called brazed and band material. With the reduction in height of the diamond socket vaccine has made a positive contribution to the fatigue life. Katrak makineleri doğal taşların kesilmesinde kullanılmaktadır. Katrak makinelerinde asıl kesme işlemini üzerine bağlanan elmas soketler yapmaktadır. Elmas soketler değişik kuvvetlere maruz kalmakta ve bunun sonucunda istenilmeyen hasarlar meydana gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada, doğal taşların kesilmesi işleminde kullanılan elmas soketli lamaların kırılma davranışları deneysel ve nümerik olarak incelenmiştir. İlk olarak, model bir katrak makinesinde kesme testleri yapılmış ve farklı kesme parametrelerine (ilerleme ve strok hızı) bağlı olarak kuvvetler (Fx, Fy) elde edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, hasarlı elmas soket ve lamalar mikroskobik, mikroyapı, sertlik, malzeme kompozisyonu ve çekme testlerine tabi tutulmuştur. Nümerik çalışmada ise, elde edilen deneysel verilere göre sonlu elemanlar metodu ile Franc 2DL programında gerilme, kırılma ve yorulma analizleri yapılmıştır. Analizlerde farklı kesme parametreleri (ilerleme ve strok hızı) ve elmas soket yükseklikleri ele alınmıştır. Çalışma sonuçları göstermiştir ki, elmas soketin kırılması lehim ve lama olmak üzere iki önemli bölge meydana gelmektedir. Aşınmayla birlikte elmas soket yüksekliğinin azalması yorulma ömrüne olumlu bir katkı sağlamıştır.
