In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the platelet count and platelet indices in cats and dogs diagnosed with lymphoma. Lymphoma, a malignant tumor that is very common in cats and dogs, is more common in middle-aged and older cats and dogs. For diagnostic purposes, complete blood count, serum biochemistry profile, urine analysis and some biomarkers as well as ultrasonography, radiography and advanced imaging techniques are used. Non-regenerative anemia, thrombocytopenia and leukocyte variability can be encountered in the complete blood count of cats and dogs with lymphoma. In recent years, the reflections of platelet indices on different diseases have been the subject of new studies in the fields of human medicine and veterinary medicine. In this direction, 13 cats with lymphoma, 20 healthy cats, 33 dogs with lymphoma and 20 healthy dogs were included in the study, which was conducted to examine PLT (Thrombocyte), MPV (Mean platelet volume-fl), PDW (Platelet distribution width) and PCT (Thrombocytocrit-%) of cats and dogs with lymphoma. The lymphoma diagnosis of the patients was confirmed by cytological and histopathological examinations. According to the statistical evaluations obtained from the hemogram data, it was determined that the RBC (Red blood cell-m/mm3), HGB (Hemoglobin-g/dL), HCT (Hematocrit-%) and MCHC (Mean platelet volume-fl) values were significantly lower (P≤0.01) and the MPV value was higher (P, Bu araştırmada, lenfoma teşhisi konulan kedi ve köpeklerdeki trombosit sayısı ve trombosit indekslerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Kedi ve köpeklerde çok fazla rastlanılan malign bir tümör olan lenfoma, daha sık olarak orta yaş ve üzerindeki kedi ve köpeklerde görülmektedir. Diyagnostik amaçla, tam kan sayımı, serum biyokimya profili, idrar analizi ve bazı biyobelirteçlerin yanında ultrasonografi, radyografı ve ileri görüntüleme tekniklerinden faydalanılmaktadır. Lenfomalı kedi ve köpeklerin tam kan sayımında non-rejeneratif anemi, trombositopeni ve lökosit değişkenlikleriyle karşılaşılabilmektedir. Son yıllarda beşeri hekimlik ve veteriner hekimliği alanlarında, trombosit indekslerinin farklı hastalıklar üzerindeki yansımaları yeni çalışmalara konu olmuştur. Koenhemsi, Lora/0000-0002-4979-170X WOS:000537457100016 This paper presents the gross and histopathologic findings of polyostotic fibrous dysplasia which is rarely seen in non-human primates. A 3-year-old female spider monkey (Ateles paniscus) was referred to the clinics of our faculty with the complaints of severe dyspnea, lethargy and cough and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy following the radiographic examination. However, the monkey died due to depression of respiration before treatment was done. Necropsy was performed on the request of the owner. Dilated cardiomyopathy and irregularly shaped tumoral masses with diameters of 0.5-1.0 cm in the right and left ribs were detected. Following the histopathological examination, the lesions were diagnosed as fibrous dysplasia.

In this study, the etiology of paralysis, nervous system disorders and deaths in chicken, duck and turkey chicks in a free-range poultry family enterprise was investigated. In the history of the disease, it has been reported that the neurological signs seen in the animals started on the 11th to 12th days after the chicks came to the farm, and deaths occurred on the 2nd to 3rd days. In order to determine the causes of death and for the etiological examination, 6 chickens, 12 ducks and 21 turkeys, which were paralyzed and near death situation, and feed samples were sent to our institution for investigation. Necropsies were performed on a total of 6 animals, one from each paralyzed and one dead animal from each animal group, and samples were taken from the feeds used. According to clinical symptoms and necropsy findings, poisoning, malnutrition and New Castle (ND) disease were suspected. Sampled kidney, liver, intestine, brain, lung and heart tissues were examined histopathologically and virologically, by RT-PCR. Atomic absorption spectrophotometer were used for feed analyzes. The amounts of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn) and selenium (Se) were investigated in the feed samples. Conclusion; Viral RNA of New Castle disease virus (NDV) Avian Paramyxovirus Type-1 could not be detected by RT-PCR. In the histopathological examination, no traces of disease due to infectious agents were found and it was determined that there was destruction and degeneration in the muscle and nerve tissue and necrosis in the brain tissue. In the results of atomic absorption spectrophotometer, it has been determined that the amount of selenium is far below the required value, and the metal amounts that can cause accumulation poisoning by passing through food to humans and animals are at acceptable values. According to all the findings, it was concluded that the disease possibly related to the nutrition due to insufficiency of Se and vitamin E. It was decided to add selenium and vitamin E to the diets of animals and prescripted. From the 3rd day of the diet change, the sick animals started to heal and from the 7th day full recovery was observed., Bu çalışmada, bir serbest dolaşan kanatlı hayvan aile işletmesinde bulunan tavuk, ördek ve hindi civcivlerinde arasında felç, sinir sistemi bozuklukları ve ölümlerin etiyolojisi araştırılmıştır. Hastalık hikayesinde hayvanlarda görülen sinirsel bulguların civcivlerin işletmeye gelişlerinden sonraki 11 ila 12. günleride başladığı, 2 ila 3. günlerde ölümlerin görüldüğü bildirilmiştir. Ölüm nedenlerinin saptanabilmesi ve etiyolojik inceleme için felçli ve ölüme yakın halde olan 6 tavuk, 12 ördek ve 21 hindi yavrusu ile yem örnekleri incelenmek üzere kurumumuza gönderilmiştir. Her hayvan grubundan felçli ve ölen hayvanlardan 1’er adet olmak üzere toplam 6 hayvana nekropsi yapılmış ve kullanılan yemlerden örnekler alınmıştır. Klinik semptomlar ve nekropsi bulgularına göre, zehirlenme, beslenme bozukluğu ve New Castle (ND) hastalığından şüphe edilmiştir. Örnekleme yapılan böbrek, karaciğer, bağırsak, beyin, akciğer ve kalp dokuları histopatolojik ve RT-PCR ile virolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Yem analizleri atomik absorpsiyon spektrofotometresi kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Yem örneklerinde, Bakır (Cu), Çinko (Zn), Demir (Fe), Kurşun (Pb), Kadmiyum (Cd), Mangan (Mn) ve Selenyum (Se) miktarları araştırılmıştır. Sonuç; RT-PCR ile New Castle hastalığı virüsü (NDV) Avian Paramyxovirus Tip-1’e ait viral RNA saptanamamıştır. Histopatolojik incelemede enfeksiyöz etkenlere bağlı bir hastalık izine rastlanılmamıştır ve kas ve sinir dokusunda harabiyet ile beyin dokusunda erime nekrozu saptanmıştır. Atomik absorpsiyon spektrofotometresi sonuçlarında selenyum miktarının olması gereken değerlerden çok düşük olduğu, ayrıca insan ve hayvanlara gıda yoluyla geçerek birikim zehirlenmesi yapabilen metal miktarlarının ise kabul edilebilir değerlerde oldukları saptanmıştır. Elde edilen tüm bulgulara göre Se ve E vitamini yetersizliğine bağlı yetersiz beslenme ile ilişkili bir sorun olabileceği kanısına varılmıştır. Hayvanların diyetlerine Selenyum ve E vitamini eklenmesine karar verilmiş ve reçete edilerek kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Diyet değişikliğinin 3. gününden itibaren hasta hayvanlarda iyileşme başlamış ve 7. Günden itibaren tam iyileşme gözlemlenmiştir.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the changes in clinical, hematological and histopathological parameters of the bitches with vaginal hyperplasia (VH), vaginal tumors (VT) and healthy reproductive tract (H), respectively. The study groups formed as; group VH (n=9), group VT (n=10) and group H (n=13). All bitches were examined clinically (vaginal cytology, vaginoscopy), hematologically and histopatologically. The bitches in group H were in anestrus and the bitches in group VH and group VT were in oestrus. Reduced levels of RBC, HGB, HCT and increase in WBC were detected in group VT. The averages of HGB level in group VH was tended to be lower than group H (P=0.05) while the averages of HCT level in group VH was significantly lower than to group H. The averages of RBC, HGB, HCT and WBC were not significantly associated with the degree of vaginal fold prolapse (VFP) (P>0.05) while the averages of PLT and PCT in bitches with type 2 VH were tended to be higher than type 3 VH (P=0.07). The histopathological examination of the vaginal masses in group VH revealed thickening of squamous epithelium and significantly loose and edematous connective tissue in the lamina propria. Histological diagnosis of the tumors in group VT were fibroma (n=4), leiomyoma (n=3), peripheral nerve sheath tumor (n=1), transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) (n=1) and leiomyosarcoma (n=1). In conclusion, hematological changes in bitches with vaginal mass were evaluated and mild anemia and leukocytosis were determined in bitches with VH and VT. To our knowledge, this is the first study that demonstrates the detection of mild anemia in bitches with VH and the differences in PLT and PCT related to the degree of VFP., Çalışmanın amacı, vajinal hiperplazili (VH), vajinal tümörlü (VT) ve sağlıklı genital kanala sahip (H) köpeklerde klinik, hematolojik ve histopatolojik değişimlerin incelenmesidir. Çalışma grupları; grup VH (n=9), grup VT (n=10), grup H’dan (n=13) oluştu. Tüm dişi köpekler klinik (vajinal sitoloji, vajinoskopi), hematolojik ve histopatolojik olarak değerlendirildi. Grup H'deki dişiler anöstrustaydı, grup VH ve grup VT'deki dişiler ise östrustaydı. Grup VT'de azalmış RBC, HGB, HCT seviyeleri ve WBC'de artış tespit edildi. Grup VH'deki HGB düzeyi ortalamaları grup H'den daha düşük olma eğilimindeyken (P=0,05), grup VH'deki HCT düzeyi ortalamaları grup H’ye göre önemli ölçüde azdı. Ortalama RBC, HGB, HCT ve WBC değerleri, vajinal kıvrım sarkması derecesi ile önemli ölçüde ilişkili değilken (P>0,05), tip 2 VH'li dişi köpeklerde PLT ve PCT ortalamaları, tip 3 VH'den daha yüksek olma eğilimindeydi (P=0,07). Grup VH'deki dişilerde histopatolojik incelemede skuamöz epitelde kalınlaşma ve lamina propriada belirgin ödem saptandı. Grup VT’de yer alan tümörlerin histolojik teşhisi; fibrom (n=4), leiomiyom (n=3), periferik sinir kılıfı tümörü (n=1), bulaşıcı venereal tümör (n=1) ve leiomiyosarkomdu (n=1). Sonuç olarak, vajinal kitlesi olan dişilerde hematolojik değişiklikler değerlendirildi ve VH ve VT'li köpeklerde hafif anemi ve lökositoz belirlendi. Bildiğimiz kadarıyla bu, VH'li dişi köpeklerde hafif anemiyi ve vajinal kıvrım sarkmasının derecesi ile ilgili PLT ve PCT değerlerindeki farklılıkları saptayan ilk çalışmadır.

İki aydır süren tek taraflı periorbital şişlik, blefarospazm ve şiddetli kanama şikayetiyle fakülte kliniklerine getirilen 34 yaşlı bir Afrika gri papağanında (Psittacus erithacus), üçüncü göz kapağının (niktitan membran olarak da bilinen) skuamöz hücreli karsinomu (SCC) teşhis edildi. Genel anestezi altında, üçüncü göz kapağı membranının bulbar yüzeyinde, göz küresinin bulbar konjunktivasının ventromedial kadranına bağlı büyük, sert, sarı bir kitle tespit edildi. Kitle cerrahi olarak eksize edildi, ancak operasyondan hemen sonra kuş öldü. Kuş ve sol göz küresi adneksal yapılarıyla birlikte histopatolojik incelemeye gönderildi. Kitle 0.8x1 cm boyutlarındaydı ve histopatolojik incelemede SCC olduğu belirlendi. Göz küresi ve vücudun diğer organlarında metastaz görülmedi., Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the third eyelid membrane (also known as the nictitating membrane) was diagnosed in a 34-year-old African grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus) that was presented to the clinics of our faculty for unilateral periorbital swelling, blepharospasm, severely bleeding of 2 months duration. A large, hard, yellow mass on the bulbar surface of the third eyelid membrane that was attached to the ventro-medial quadrant of the bulbar conjunctiva was identified under general anesthesia. Surgical removal of the mass was performed but the bird died just after the operation. The left globe with adnexal tissues and the body of bird were submitted for histopathological examination. The dimensions of the solitary mass were 0.8x1 cm and the histopathological examination revealed SCC. There was no evidence of metastasis in the globe and other organs.

In this study, theeyelid tumors and the treatment results of 47 dogs referred to Istanbul University Faculty of Veterinary MedicineDepartment of Surgery with a complaint of eyelid masses were evaluatedretrospectively. Cases underwent detailed ophtalmic examination. A V-shapedexcision was performed and the tumor was removedin full-thickness. Histopathological examination revealed that most of theneoplasms originating from the meibomian glands were observed. The most commoneyelid tumors and formation of the eyelid tumors with respect to the racepredisposition, and effects of age and sex were defined.The surgical method used were sufficient for removal of the masses without thenecessity of a reconstructive blepharoplasty., Çalışmada 2006-2017yılları arasında İstanbul Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Cerrahi AnabilimDalı Kliniği’ne göz kapağında kitle şikayeti ile getirilen ve sağaltımlarıyapılan toplam 47 köpeğe ait göz kapağı tümörleri olguları retrospektif olarakdeğerlendirildi. Olguların ayrıntılı göz muayenesi yapıldı. Kitlelerinuzaklaştırılmasında V şeklinde eksizyon yeğlenerek, tümör tam katlı olarakbölgeden uzaklaştırıldı. Yapılan histopatolojik inceleme sonucu, meibomianbezlerden köken alan neoplazmaların çoğunlukta olduğu belirlendi. Çalışmasonunda elde edilen veriler ile göz kapağı tümörü oluşumunda ırkpredispozisyonu, yaşın ve cinsiyetin etkisi ile en yaygın görülen göz kapağıtümörü belirlenip, kullanılan cerrahi yöntemin rekonstruktif blefaroplastiyegerek kalmadan, kitlelerinuzaklaştırılmasında yeterli olduğu görüldü.

A3-year-old crossbred cat with the complaint of abdominal distension was broughtto Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecologyclinic. Blood sample was evaluated within normal ranges except of mildleucocytosis and increased urea. On ultrasonographic examination a fluid filleduterus and a mass in right ovary were screened. Complete surgical excision wasperformed and unilateral ovarian mature teratoma and hydrometra were diagnosed.Previous reports about feline teratoma did not state other uterine alterationsrelated to uterine disorders. This case was deemed appropriate to be reportedbecause it was the first case of hydrometra associated with an ovarianteratoma. So we recommend ovariohysterectomy for these kind of cases due to thefluid accumulation within the uterus with ovarian mass formation., Üç yaşlı melez bir kedi İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa, Doğum veJinekoloji Anabilim Dalı kliniğine abdominal genişleme şikayeti ilegetirildi. Kan tahlili sonucu ortadüzeyde lökositoz ve artmış üre seviyesi dışında normal sınırlarda tespitedildi. Ultrasonografik muayenede içi sıvı dolu uterus ve sağ ovaryumda birkitle tespit edildi. Kedi üzerinde komple cerrahi ensizyon yapıldı veunilateral olgun ovaryan teratoma ve hidrometra teşhis edildi. Daha önceki kediovaryan teratoma olguları uterustaki rahatsızlığa yönelik bir değişikliktenbahsetmemişti. Bu olgu bir kedide ovaryan teratoma ile birlikte hidrometranındatespit edildiği ilk vaka olması sebebiyle rapor edilmeye uygun görüldü.Dolayısıyla uterus içerisinde sıvı birikimiyle birlikte ovaryumda kitleninolduğu bu tarz olgularda biz ovariohisterektomiyi öneriyoruz.
