This article addresses the impact of COVID-19 in the illustration sector in Uruguay, through the survey of available information and the conduction of in-depth interviews with artists and qualified informants. The text is structured in the following sections: background (historical antecedents of the local graphic sector), public policies and spaces of resistance (main policy instruments and social actions affecting this art), the illustration sector (main characteristics of this market), impacts and opportunities of the pandemic (observed effects and trends), and final remarks on a possible post-pandemic scenario. Its main conclusions indicate that the pandemic has forced artists to seek new subsistence opportunities, promoting a greater professionalization and creating market niches independent of the galleries and large publishing houses. It has also gathered artists around a common objective of "resistance" that strains the balance between the functional and social aspects of the discipline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

How can researchers conduct interviews about sensitive topics the interlocutors are unwilling to discuss? This article contributes to the ongoing debates on interviewing. While we are observing a growing interest in this research method among international relations scholars, we lack formalized advanced practices for overcoming interview-related challenges. Drawing on elite interviews conducted in Israel and the UK, the article introduces two research techniques particularly useful in discussing controversial or sensitive matters: in-situ texts and adaptable self-presentation practices. It first presents the types of challenges I faced seeking answers as to why secure and powerful states like the UK and Israel employ narratives of vulnerability in wartime public communication. Then it analyses how the use of in-situ texts during interviews assists in introducing sensitive topics into the interview. I illustrate how they allow me to quickly establish the importance of the research phenomenon as well as to facilitate more open conversations. Finally, I show the benefits of the adaptable self-presentation technique. The goal of this practice is to conduct a responsive interview. One in which the researcher builds trust with the participant by bringing out its own biographical aspects that emphasize either its outsider or insider status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The situation of Spanish Early Career Researchers (ECRs) during the pandemic is presented, taking into account the main changes caused by confinement in their work habits and academic communication practices. Based on the information extracted from interviews and surveys, the transformations experienced in the following areas are analyzed: distance teaching, research production, the evaluation system and the metrics used, the progress of open science, peer review, ethically questionable practices, collaboration and networking, online meetings and conferences, scientific dissemination and outreach and the use of social networks. After the pandemic, some disruptions have reversed. However, others have remained. The pandemic has normalized the use of virtual and hybrid events and promoted researchers' dissemination practices, among other changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract. Active playgrounds programs have been identified as ideal spaces to provide students with physical, cognitive, emotional and social benefits. This study aimed to examine the perceptions of teachers and families about the implementation of an active recess program during a school year that was based on the shared construction of materials by parents and students. Ten Primary Education teachers (nine women and one man; Mage = 31.4 ± 5.56) and 14 family members (10 women and four men, Mage = 45 ± 2.44) from a private school in the Basque Country participated. A qualitative study was carried out through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis by categories was based on data reduction, descriptive analysis and interpretation. The results showed six dimensions, shared by teachers and family members: Knowledge of the program, Self-made material, Psychological effects, Physical effects, Socialization, and Obstacles and facilitators. The results shed light on the support of active playground interventions with self-made material and converge almost entirely with those reported in previous studies by students. Key words: active playgrounds, recycling, pedagogical model, interviews, physical activity, game.

Affective computing aims to create systems capable of recognizing, processing, and simulating human emotions to enhance human-computer interaction. Speech emotion recognition (SER) is a highly effective and non-invasive technique for assessing a user's emotions by analyzing physiological variables. However, despite its widespread use in end-user perception identification, few applications have been developed in the field of forensic analysis. To address this gap, this research proposes a new forensic emotion analysis software system, FOREMAN, based on the emotional study of the voice. The system was developed using the Iterative Research Pattern. foreman determines the fluctuation of emotions in an audio file, as well as the percentage and spatial distribution of emotions present in its segments, using clustering methods. The system's effectiveness is demonstrated by its application to an audio file taken from a Colombian Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) hearing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SOCIAL movements , *PUBLIC demonstrations , *POLITICAL parties , *POLITICAL organizations , *POLITICAL movements , *SOCIAL influence - Abstract
There is a growing consensus about the complementary nature of institutional and noninstitutional politics as means to push forward policy agendas. However, the bulk of research tends to concentrate on one aspect of this relationship, namely, how social movements influence the political arena, for example by impacting different stages of the policymaking process and creating new political parties. There is comparatively less understanding of the reverse dynamics: the degree to which political parties also influence the protest arena by adopting and utilizing strategies and tactics commonly associated with social movements and by connecting to demonstrators. Focusing on Argentina and Chile, two countries that have experienced massive protest waves in recent years, this article examines the presence of political parties in the organization, staging, and channeling of demonstrations. Given that the reception of political parties in demonstrations is closely tied to whether they are welcome in the protest arena or not, we also analyze how Argentine and Chilean protesters perceive political parties and the level of identification they feel with them. Our primary data source comes from 1 935 surveys conducted as part of the Caught in the Act of Protest: Contextualizing Contestation (ccc) network between 2015 and 2017. We found that political parties in Argentina exhibit stronger ties to social movements compared to those in Chile. We seek to link this outcome to divergent and historically rooted patterns of protest dynamics in both countries and discuss the implications of our findings in the conclusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PRECARITY , *TELEVISION , *JOURNALISM - Abstract
Studying the quality of journalism in Portugal is important, given the current financial crisis the business landscape is going through, where newsrooms are increasingly smaller and with precarious working conditions. In this context, how do Portuguese television and radio journalists assess the quality of journalism practised in Portugal and the conditions they have to produce news? This article seeks to answer two research questions, through the use of semistructured interviews with 11 radio and television journalists in Portugal: (a) how do television and radio journalists define quality journalism; and (b) how do television and radio journalists assess the quality of journalism produced in Portugal? The interviewees stressed the importance of following the profession's ethical rules, maintaining accuracy and impartiality, as well as other more formal aspects, such as the quality of their writing or the ability to captivate their audience. As for the conditions needed to practise good journalism, the importance of time and job stability stood out, which the interviewees agreed are in short supply. Although the interviewees were not unanimous in their assessment of the quality of television and radio journalism in Portugal -- even the most positive ones had criticisms to make -- most of the journalists interviewed considered that their working conditions for producing good journalism fall short of what is desired.

This study examines attitudes about integration and support for citizenship in the context of the Syrian refugee crisis in Turkey based on 85 interviews in four provinces. Consistent with past research, respondents reported multiple threat perceptions around refugees, with security and cultural threats predominating. Those who perceived refugees as threatening in three or more ways generally believed in fewer prospects for integration and were unlikely to support citizenship. However, positive views were present among those who reported one or even two types of threats, indicating there are possibilities for developing inclusionary attitudes even in the presence of threat perceptions. Our research also identifies two counterintuitive reasons some individuals support citizenship for refugees: to reduce security threats and remedy perceived favoritism in social support policies. These findings shed light on the complex bases of attitudes around migration and have important implications for designing refugee settlement policies and efforts to support integration. INTERNATIONAL relations , *STEREOTYPES , *GREAT powers (International relations) - Abstract
Brazil is an emerging country with tremendous potential and the ambition to become a major player in global politics. Achieving high international status, however, depends not only on aspiration, but on the intersubjective perceptions of states that are already established as great powers. Brazil’s rise is connected not only to its attributes of power but to how the country is perceived by others. This article advances the study of Brazil’s status by analyzing the image of the country according to the perceptions of the foreign policy community of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. It contributes to International Relations scholarship by addressing the relation between images of a nation and its level of prestige. The article argues that knowledge about Brazil is limited even among global elites and is mostly associated with superficial stereotypes [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HUMAN resources departments , *SEMI-structured interviews , *ACQUISITION of data , *QUALITATIVE research , *EMPIRICAL research - Abstract
Purpose: This article presents the results of qualitative research performed through the semi-structured interviews to elaborate a theoreticalmethodological human resources churning model that will allow to statistically describe the relations of interdependence between the selected variables, to analyze their impact, and to test hypotheses in future studies. Originality/value: The relevance of this study lies in the opportunity to contribute to the development of such an intricate, unexplored topic, with scarcely available literature and empirical studies, providing the elaboration of an interview script as an instrument for data collection that facilitates future studies. Churning of human resources (excess of turnover) is solely related to the replacement of workers who voluntarily choose to leave organizations (Burgess et al., 2000). Design/methodology/approach: This study follows a qualitative approach. The process of data collection consisted of developing a semi-structured interview guide to gather information through the performance of 20 interviews. Findings: Through the analysis of the results, it was possible to ascertain that the more favorable churning dimensions are, the greater the retention of workers in organizations. Thus, the elaboration and application of strategic measures by organizations become relevant for the retention of the most experienced and qualified workers in order to avoid high costs with new hiring, which are a direct result of such replacements (churning).

- Abstract
Introduction: Given the multiplicity of definitions about the concept of human resource churning, we took as a premise, the costs associated with the replacement of workers from voluntary departures from organisations. As this is a subject that has not yet been widely explored in Portugal, this study aims to expand the theoretical framework, as well as the empirical studies; Goals; Methods: This qualitative study aims to identify the main precedents of human resource churning and the strategic measures applied by organisations to mitigate it. In order to make the objective feasible, the research question was: what is the origin of churning in organisations and what are the mitigation measures? As a data collection method, 20 semi-structured interviews were conducted with human resources directors from various sectors of activity, which were analysed through content analysis in order to extract the main variables, emphasising the development of a theoretical model and its analysis; Results: In order to analyse this model, 3 propositions were defined and proceeded to their substantiation, using the literature on the subject and the information obtained through the interviews, it was possible to analyse the veracity of the defined propositions. It was possible to predict that human resource churning precedents negatively influence the occurrence of human resource churning; that mitigation measures have a positive influence on human resource churning and that mitigation measures have a positive influence on human resource churning precedents; Conclusions: The greater the investment in the application and/or development of policies and practices of human resources retention, the lower the churning rate will be, and therefore the costs derived from the replacement of workers will be reduced. In view of the negative view of the phenomenon of menstruation and recent market changes aimed at the search for ecological consumption and real female representations, this research seeks to understand the relationship between women, menstruation and these new trends, in order to respond to the following question: How do consumers of ecological menstrual products perceive their relationship with menstruation and with these products? For that, texts were used as a basis that addressed the cultural aspects of menstruation in Brazil, the ecological market trends and how advertising and marketing aimed at the female audience and menstruation evolved over time. Data were collected from the analysis of cultural texts and interviews with consumers of ecological products. As a result, it was identified that the advertisements belonging to the second half of the century. XXI began to represent menstruation as a positive and natural phenomenon. With regard to consumers, the data indicate that their relationship with menstruation seems to have improved after using ecological menstrual products, as they feel safer and more confident, since the products generate greater autonomy and comfort for them.
