The ongoing effort to implement compact and cheap optical systems is the main driving force for the recent flourishing research in the field of optical metalenses. Metalenses are a type of metasurface, used for focusing and imaging applications, and are implemented based on the nanopatterning of an optical surface. The challenge faced by metalens research is to reach high levels of performance, using simple fabrication methods suitable for mass-production. In this paper we present a Huygens nanoantenna based metalens, designed for outdoor photographic/surveillance applications in the near-infra-red. We show that good imaging quality can be obtained over a field-of-view (FOV) as large as +/-15 degrees. This first successful implementation of metalenses for outdoor imaging applications is expected to provide insight and inspiration for future metalens imaging applications.

- Abstract
The unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) are commonly used for aerial photography, express delivery for packets or video monitoring. The UAS technology can help responding to the growing demands of the frequency monitoring by national radiocommunication authorities (NRAs). This article presents a practical usage trial of an unmanned aircraft for monitoring the spectrum usage and finding the interference location. The monitoring of spectrum usage is one part of the NRAs’ process for guarantee user compliance with radio license conditions. Finding illegal or malfunctioning transmitters is a challenging task especially in urban environment, due to multi-path propagation conditions. This study focuses on practical assessment of the method for determining accurate location of radio frequency interference sources from the buildings using the UAS technology. The practicability of the UAS technology usage in spectrum monitoring activities was under the evaluation. This study showed promising results that UAS with the measurement equipment setup suits NRAs’ as a tool for mobile monitoring on the air.

ABSTRACT: Short sellers face unique risks, such as the risk that stock loans become expensive and the risk that stock loans are recalled. We show that short‐selling risk affects prices among the cross‐section of stocks. Stocks with more short‐selling risk have lower returns, less price efficiency, and less short selling. The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) is a large acceptance (0.65 sr m(2)) detector designed to operate in the International Space Station (ISS) for three years. The purposes of the experiment are to search for cosmic antimatter and dark matter and to study the composition and energy spectrum of the primary cosmic rays. A "scated-down" version has been flown on the Space Shuttle Discovery for 10 days in June 1998. The complete AMS is programmed for installation on the ISS in October 2003 for an operational period of 3 yr. - Abstract
The variety of isotopes in cosmic rays allows us to study different aspects of the processes that cosmic rays undergo between the time they are produced and the time of their arrival in the heliosphere. In this paper, we present measurements of the isotopic ratios 2H/4He, 3He/4He, 6Li/7Li, 7Be/(9Be+10Be), and 10B/11B in the range 0.2–1.4 GeV of kinetic energy per nucleon. The measurements are based on the data collected by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, AMS-01, during the STS-91 flight in 1998 June.

- Abstract
Measurement of the chemical and isotopic composition of cosmic rays is essential for the precise understanding of their propagation in the galaxy. While the model parameters are mainly determined using the B/C ratio, the study of extended sets of ratios can provide stronger constraints on the propagation models. In this paper, the relative abundances of light-nuclei lithium, beryllium, boron, and carbon are presented. The secondary-to-primary ratios Li/C, Be/C, and B/C have been measured in the kinetic energy range 0.35-45 GeV nucleon-1. The isotopic ratio 7Li/6Li is also determined in the magnetic rigidity interval 2.5-6.3 GV. The secondary-to-secondary ratios Li/Be, Li/B, and Be/B are also reported. These measurements are based on the data collected by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer AMS-01 during the STS-91 space shuttle flight in 1998 June. Our experimental results are in substantial agreement with other measurements, where they exist. We describe our light-nuclei data with a diffusive-reacceleration model. A 10%-15% overproduction of Be is found in the model predictions and can be attributed to uncertainties in the production cross-section data. © 2010. The American Astronomical Society.

- Abstract
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) is a large acceptance (0.65 sr m(2)) detector designed to operate in the International Space Station (ISS) for three years. The purposes of the experiment are to search for cosmic antimatter and dark matter and to study the composition and energy spectrum of the primary cosmic rays. A "scated-down" version has been flown on the Space Shuttle Discovery for 10 days in June 1998. The complete AMS is programmed for installation on the ISS in October 2003 for an operational period of 3 yr. - Abstract
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was flown on the space shuttle Discovery during flight STS-91 (June 1998) in a 51.7 deg orbit at altitudes between 320 and 390 km. A search for antihelium nuclei in the rigidity range 1–140 GV was performed. No antihelium nuclei were detected at any rigidity. An upper limit on the flux ratio of antihelium to helium of < 1.1×10^−6 was obtained. The high energy proton, electron, positron, helium, antiproton and deuterium spectra were accurately measured. For each particle and nuclei two distinct spectra were observed: a higher energy spectrum and a substantial second spectrum. Positrons in the second spectrum were found to be much more abundant than electrons. Tracing particles from the second spectra shows that most of them travel for an extended period of time in the geomagnetic field, and that the positive particles (p and e+) and negative ones (e−) originate from two complementary geographic regions. The second helium spectrum flux over the energy range 0.1–1.2 GeV/nucleon was measured to be (6.3 ± 0.9) × 10^−3(m^2 s sr)^−1. Over 90 percent of the helium flux was determined to be 3He at the 90% confidence level

- Abstract
The helium spectrum from 0.1 to 100 GeV/nucleon was measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during space shuttle flight STS-91 at altitudes near 380 km. Above the geomagnetic cutoff the spectrum is parameterized by a power law. Below the geomagnetic cutoff a second helium spectrum was observed. In the second helium spectra over the energy range 0.1 to 1.2 GeV/nucleon the flux was measured to be (6.3±0.9)×10−3 (m2 sec sr)−1 and more than ninety percent of the helium was determined to be 3He (at the 90% CL). Tracing helium from the second spectrum shows that about half of the 3He travel for an extended period of time in the geomagnetic field and that they originate from restricted geographic regions similar to protons and positrons.

- Abstract
The lepton spectra in the kinetic energy ranges 0.2 to 40 GeV for e− and 0.2 to 3 GeV for e+ were measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during space shuttle flight STS–91 at altitudes near 380 km. From the origin of the leptons two distinct spectra were observed: a higher energy spectrum and a substantial second spectrum with positrons much more abundant than electrons. Tracing leptons from the second spectra shows that most of these leptons travel for an extended period of time in the geomagnetic field and that the e+ and e− originate from two complementary geographic regions.

- Abstract
The proton spectrum in the kinetic energy range 0.1 to 200 GeV was measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during space shuttle flight STS-91 at an altitude of 380 km. Above the geomagnetic cutoff the observed spectrum is parameterized by a power law. Below the geomagnetic cutoff a substantial second spectrum was observed concentrated at equatorial latitudes with a flux ∼70 m−2 s−1 sr−1. Most of these second spectrum protons follow a complicated trajectory and originate from a restricted geographic region.

Saliva is an important factor in the oral cavity and could be significant in protecting against carcinogens. In experimental models of carcinogenesis, saliva was shown to have a temporary protective effect against the carcinogens DMBA and 4-nitroquinoline-oxide (4NQO). Silver-stained nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) are considered markers for both proliferative capacity and prognosis. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of desalivation on AgNOR parameters in lesions induced by the carcinogen 4NQO in a rat model, in order to trace early nuclear changes. The study group consisted of 120 male Wistar-derived rats. The experimental group (n=56) underwent surgical desalivation; the control group (n=56) underwent a sham operation, and both groups were administered a solution of 0.001% 4NQO in the drinking water. A normal group (n=8) did not receive surgery and drank tap water. Rats were sacrificed at 7, 14, 22, and 28 weeks. Formalin fixed, paraffin embedded sections of the tongue were silver-stained and AgNOR parameters were analyzed using computerized image analysis. In both desalivated and control groups, the nuclear area was significantly higher than the normal. This difference was already evident at 7 weeks. The mean AgNOR area was significantly higher in the desalivated group at week 7 and continued to increase over time. The mean AgNOR number was also significantly higher in the desalivated group at week 7. Differences between the desalivated and control groups diminished with time. These changes in proliferative activity, as expressed by AgNOR parameters, presented earlier changes in comparison to those observed in microscopic examination of the same slides. Results suggest that saliva in the oral cavity can delay malignanttransformation, but continued exposure to the carcinogen overrides this effect. AgNOR stain seems to be sensitive and allows for early identification of intranuclear changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
