Abstract

This paper mainly discusses the effect of HNO3 steam on the electrical contact reliability of gold-plated, palladium-nickel-plated and nickel-plated samples, tests the porosity of gold plating and analyzes the causes of static contact resistance change. The study shows that corrosion products will be formed on the contact surface due to electrochemical corrosion in corrosive gas environment, resulting in the increase of static contact resistance, which affects the reliability of the connection. After corrosion, corrosion products are circular on the gold-plated sample surface. With the increase of the thickness of gold plating, porosity decreases gradually. The static contact resistance of the corrosion is close to 2000mΩ, and the contact resistance decreases gradually with the increase of pressure. Abstract

This paper focuses on the contour extraction for the inner wires of a kind of deep hole component to achieve a high-accuracy inspection. The vision system consisting of a camera and an endoscope is developed to acquire high-quality images of the internal structure. For the acquired images, a contour extraction method is proposed, which could be divided into the following steps. First, the start points of wires referred as the prior information on the component are obtained with a predefined filter, and on the basis, several regions of interest (ROIs) are defined. Second, the multiscale probability of boundary operator is utilized to detect edges in the ROIs. Third, a Brownian motion model is established to calculate the connectivity between edges. The prior information obtained previously is used again to determine the probabilities of the edges belonging to the contours. Finally, the symmetric ratio contour method is used to form the wires’ contours with the edges. In the proposed method, the edges belonging to the wires’ contours are enhanced by making full use of the prior information, resulting in the improvement in accuracy and real-time performance. As evidenced by the experiments, the proposed method can efficiently extract the inner wires’ contours from the component’s image with low-contrast conditions, noises, and shadows. Abstract

Fretting of mated electronic connectors may be due to extreme increase in contact resistance. We present a detailed analysis of contact resistance by fretting experiments using brass alloys/copper contact pairs. The relationship between wear mechanisms and contact resistance was determined. The influence of fundamental factors such as normal load, displacement amplitude, and current on contact resistance change was also evaluated. It was found out that displacement amplitude, normal load, and current are important parameters for infinite lifetime or stable electrical resistance during fretting condition. Influence of displacement amplitude on the electrical contact performance might be affected by wear debris in the contact area. Electric contact performance could be improved by increasing the power current, which could break down the thick oxide film formed. The predicted working lifetime and reliability requirements of the connector were determined to optimize and extend the service life under the working condition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract The IGOSat (Ionospheric Gamma-ray Observations Satellite) satellite aims at measuring the spectrum of gamma radiations (20 keV to 2 MeV) and electrons (1 MeV to 20 MeV) in the polar zones and in the South Atlantic Anomaly, as well as the total electronic content of the ionosphere. The satellite contains two payloads: a dual-frequency GPS receiver and a scintillator, which will be part of a 3U Cubesat satellite, in a near polar orbit at an altitude of about 650 km. The scintillator payload is composed of plastic (organic) and crystal (CeBr 3 , inorganic) scintillators read by a 4x4 matrix and 10 single-pixel Silicon Photomultipliers. Geant-4 simulations have been used for choosing its size and estimate its efficiency. This paper summarizes the concept, the scientific objectives of the project, mostly focusing on the scintillator payload, and introduces some key information on the Dual-Frequency GPS payload. Abstract

A high overpotential in the anode of Direct Carbon Fuel Cells (DCFC) is ascribed to the sluggish kinetics of solid fuel oxidation. In this study, we demonstrate a unique approach to enhance the performance of molten-carbonate electrolyte based DCFC (MC-DCFC) by decreasing a serious polarization loss at the anode side; a simple addition of lanthanum strontium cobalt ferrite (LSCF) having a function of mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIEC) into the Ni anode catalyst layer. Ni:LSCF = 1:1 showed markedly enhanced peak power density of 111 mW/cm 2 , approximately two-fold higher value than that for the anode using solely Ni and one of the best record in the literature value using carbon black fuel without any contribution of generated syngas oxidation. As can be noted from the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data, the ohmic and the charge transfer resistance of the anode was markedly decreased owing to the high ionic-electronic conductivity of the MIECs. Furthermore, the enhanced performance can be also attributed to the maximized TPBs (triple phase boundaries) that participate in the carbon oxidation reaction. Based on the results, we suggest that the addition of MIEC materials into the Ni anode catalyst layer is a promising approach to improve the performance of MC-DCFC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
