In this work, a numerical study of mixed convection inside a horizontal channel with an open trapezoidal enclosure subjected to a discrete heat source in different locations is carried out. The heat source with the length of ε = 0.75, is maintained at a constant temperature. The air flow with a fixed velocity and a cold temperature enters the channel horizontally. The other walls of the enclosure and the channel are adiabatic. The results are presented in the form of the contours of velocity, isotherms and Nusselt numbers profiles for various heat source locations, Prandtl number (Pr = 0.71) and Reynolds number (Re = 100) respectively. The distribution of the isotherms depends significantly on the position of the heat source. We noted that the best heat transfer is detected where the heat source is placed in the top of the left .

Drying of a deformable saturated porous medium based on convective tempering is a novel method that can enhance energy efficiency and the quality of the dried product itself. In this experimental investigation, the performances of this specific technique are compared with those of a standard stationary drying process in terms of deformation, drying kinetics, moisture redistribution, and energy consumption. The impacts of radiation, mass transpiration, and volume fraction of carbon nanotubes on the flow of a Newtonian fluid past a porous stretching/shrinking sheet are investigated. For this purpose, three types of base liquids are considered, namely, water, ethylene glycol and engine oil. Moreover, single and multi-wall carbon nanotubes are examined in the analysis. The overall physical problem is modeled using a system of highly nonlinear partial differential equations, which are then converted into highly nonlinear third order ordinary differential equations via a suitable similarity transformation. These equations are solved analytically along with the corresponding boundary conditions. It is found that the carbon nanotubes can significantly improve the heat transfer process. Their potential application in cutting-edge areas is also discussed to a certain extent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The solidification of the singular CdZnTe in axisymetric Vertical Bridgman (VB) cavity is investigated in the current study. The numerical approach is developed by using COMSOL Multiphysics software, which is based on finite elements method (FEM) with Arbitrary Lagrangian-Euleurian (ALE) formulation allowing treating the moving interface. Numerical aspects of different parameters that affect the solidification interface and present an important factor during the crystal growth’s process are presented and analyzed. Especial attention will be paid to investigate the thermophysical properties such as thermal diffusivity, heat capacity. Thermal conductivity and the effect of thermal condition specially the effect of cold temperature Tc which affects significantly the concavity and the convexity of the interface for specific ranges in the solidification of CdZnTe phenomena, but it is of great importance the crystal growth experts are not it given importance. It has been shown that this properties, the effect of Tc, and the variation of interface velocity affect the solid/liquid interface shape and the crystal growth process.
