Aim: This study aims to investigate the awareness and knowledge level of patients about the use of herbal products in dentistry.Materials and Methods: Present study was carried out on a total of 200 patients who applied to the Faculty of Dentistry Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic in 2020. Data were collected using questionnaires. Herbal product usage levels, attitudes towards phytotherapy and general opinions of the patients were evaluated.Results: Herbal products used for oral and dental health were found to be at lower levels than herbal products used in the prevention or treatment of other diseases. The patients preferred these products for halitosis and wounds. The most commonly used plants for oral health were mint, clove, thyme and black mulberry.Conclusion: The results of present study showed that patients are willing to use herbal products. This result suggests that it would be beneficial for dentists to integrate phytotherapy into treatment protocols., Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı diş hekimliğinde bitkisel ürün kullanımı hakkında hastaların farkındalık ve bilgi düzeyini araştırmaktır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmamız 2020 yılında Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Ağız Diş ve Çene Cerrahisi Kliniğine başvuran toplam 200 hasta üzerinde gerçekleştirildi. Veriler anket formları kullanılarak toplandı ve hastaların bitkisel ürün kullanım düzeyleri, fitoterapiye yönelik tutumları ve genel görüşleri değerlendirildi.Bulgular: Ağız ve diş sağlığı için kullanılan bitkisel ürünlerin diğer hastalıkların önlenmesi veya tedavisinde kullanılan bitkisel ürünlere göre daha düşük düzeylerde olduğu tespit edildi. Hastalar ağız ve diş sağlığına yönelik bu ürünleri daha çok ağız kokusu ve yaraları için tercih etmişlerdir. Ağız sağlığı için en çok kullanılan bitkiler sırasıyla nane, karanfil, kekik ve karadut olarak belirlendi.Sonuç: Çalışmamızın sonuçları, hastaların bitkisel ürünleri kullanmaya istekli olduklarını göstermektedir. Bu sonuç, diş hekimlerinin fitoterapiyi tedavi protokollerine entegre etmelerinin faydalı olacağını göstermektedir.

Objective: Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor caused by proliferation of epithelial and mesenchymal cells. It is generally seen in children and has an asymptomatic course. In terms of classification, AFO has similar features to other lesions in the same group. In our case, the case of AFO which was misdiagnosed as a result of incomplete biopsy is presented and in the histopathological differential diagnosis of the lesion, the importance of taking biopsy samples completely is emphasized.Case: A 9-year-old male patient who applied to our clinic with a complaint of swelling that did not pass in the right mandibular posterior region was decided to take a biopsy first, and then the diagnosis of the mass was made as Ameloblastic Fibroma (AF). However, in the second histopathological examination performed as a result of surgical excision of the lesion, the mass was reported to be AFO. In the patient's postoperative controls, healing was observed to be smooth and no recurrence was encountered.Conclusion: There are also discussions in the literature about whether AFO is a different stage of odontoma or a different pathology. Histopathological examination should be done carefully for a definitive diagnosis. Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı lokal anestezi altında oral cerrahi işlem geçirenhastaları preoperatif koagülasyon değerlerinin araştırılmasıdır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya 2017-2018 tarihleri arasında Adıyaman Üniversitesi DişHekimliği Fakültesi Ağız, Diş ve Çene Cerrahisi Kliniği’ne çeşitli nedenlerdendolayı başvuran ve yapılan muayene sonucu kendisine lokal anestezi altındacerrahi girişim uygulanan 1598 hasta dahil edildi. Hastalara ait yaş, cinsiyetve aktif parsiyel tromboplastin zamanı (APTT), protrombin zamanı (PT) veuluslararası normalleştirilmiş oran (INR) gibi koagülasyon değerleri kaydedildive istatistiksel olarak analiz edildi.Bulgular: Çalışmaya dahil edilen hastaların yaş aralığı 11-92 arasındadeğişmekteydi ve yaş ortalaması 30,51±11,09 idi. Bu hastaların %63,06’sı(n=1007) kadın, %36,94’ü (n=591) erkekti. Cinsiyete göre dağılımda başvurantoplam kadın hasta sayısı erkeklere kıyasla daha fazlaydı. Tüm hastalar alt yaşgrupları (0-20, 21-40, 41-60, >60) bakımından incelendiğinde her ikicinsiyette özellikle 0-20 ile 21-40 yaş gruplarında istatistiksel olarakanlamlı farklılık bulundu (p0.05). İncelenen koagülasyon değerlerinin hepsindenormal sınırların dışında seyreden değerler görüldü. Bunlardan APTT ve PT (%)değerlerinde düşük değerler; INR ve PT (sn) değerlerinde ise yüksek değerlersayıca daha fazla bulundu. Normal olmayan bu değerler cinsiyet bakımındanincelendiğinde PT (%) hariç diğerleri erkeklere nazaran kadınlarda istatistikselolarak anlamlı şekilde daha fazla görüldüğü bulundu. Dört koagülasyonparametresine ait normal olmayan bu değerler yaş grupları bakımından iseistatistiksel olarak anlamlı şekilde en fazla 21-40 yaş arasında görüldüğütespit edildi (p, Objective: The aim in this study was to investigate preoperative coagulationvalues of patients undergoing oral surgery under local anesthesia.Material and Method: The study included 1598 patients who presented tothe Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry atAdıyaman University between 2017 and 2018 for various reasons and underwentsurgery under local anesthesia based on examination. The patients’ age andgender as well as their coagulation values such as activated partialthromboplastin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT) and international normalizedratio (INR) were recorded and analyzed statistically.Results: The age range of the patients included in the study ranged between 11 and92, and their mean age was 30.51 ± 11.09. Of these patients, 63.06% (n = 1007)were female, and 36.94% (n = 591) were male. The total number of femalepatients admitted was more than that of the male patients in terms of thedistribution by gender. When the number of patients admitted were examined interms of age groups (0–20, 21–40, 41–60, > 60), statistically significantdifferences were found especially between the ages 0–20 and 21–40 in bothgender (p 0.05). Values outside the normal range were observed in allof the coagulation values examined. Among these, APTT and PT (%) values thatwere lower than the normal and INR and PT (s) values that were higher than thenormal were found to prevail. An examination of these abnormal values in termsof gender revealed that the values other than PT (%) were found to be statisticallysignificantly higher in women, compared to men. In terms of age groups, theseabnormal values belonging to the four coagulation parameters were found to bestatistically significantly the highest among the people who were 21–40 yearsold (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Taking preoperative coagulation tests prior to locally appliedsurgical procedures is especially important in patients for whom detailedmedical history cannot be obtained.

Haemophilia A is hereditary haemorrhagic disorders characterised by deficiency or dysfunction of coagulation protein factor VIII. This deficiency causes prolongedbleeding and delayed wound healing after injury, tooth extraction and surgical procedures. In this report; the patient was diagnosed with Hemophilia A and recurrentsubmandibular abscess despite of its medical treatments was presented. A 23-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with complaints of swelling and pain onthe right side of his face and neck. In his anamnesis, it was learned that the patient first applied to the otolaryngology clinic, and after his treatment, were directed toour clinic, because of his recurrent complaints. In the clinical and radiographic examination, it was found that the abscess was caused by the right mandibular wisdomtooth and it was decided to be extracted. Firstly, the patient was consulted with a hematologist before the procedure was performed, and the patient was providedwith antibiotic, analgesic and muscle relaxant medication for 3 days until the day of treatment. On the day of the procedure, factor VIII was transfused to the patient bythe hematologist and than the wisdom teeth extracted and the wound was closed by suturing. Postoperatively, the wound was healed without any bleeding or healingproblem. As a result; Hemophilia A disease is an important systemic disease that can be life-threatening. In these patients, surgical procedures should be performedby providing appropriate blood values in the most appropriate sterile conditions in the control of hematologist., HemofiliA koagülasyon proteini olan faktör VIII eksikliği veya fonksiyon bozukluğu ilekarakterize kalıtsal hemorajik bir bozukluktur. Bu eksiklik yaralanma, dişçekimi ve cerrahi işlemler sonrası uzamış kanamalara ve gecikmiş yaraiyileşmesine neden olur. Bu raporda; Hemofili A tanısı almış hastada, uygulananmedikal tedavilere rağmen tekrarlayan submandibular apse ve tedavisisunulmaktadır. Olgumuz; 23 yaşındaki erkek hasta olup sağ tarafında yüzünde veboynunda gelişen şişlik ve ağrı şikayetiyle kliniğimize başvurmuştur. Alınananamnezinde hastanın ilk önce kulak burun boğaz kliniğine başvurduğu, buradakitedavisini takiben şikayetlerinin tekrarlaması üzerine tarafımızayönlendirildiği öğrenilmiştir. Yapılan klinik ve radyografik muayenesinde,apsenin sağ alt yirmi yaş dişinden kaynaklı olduğu tespit edilmiş ve dişinçekimi uygun görülmüştür. Hastaya işlem yapılmadan önce hematoloji uzmanıyla konsülteedilerek, hastaya işlem gününe kadar 3 gün süreyle antibiyotik, ağrı kesici vekas gevşetici ilaç tedavisi uygulanarak ağız açıklığının artırılması sağlandı.İşlem günü hematolog tarafından hastaya faktör VIII yüklemesi yapılan hastadayirmi yaş dişi çekildi ve yara yeri süture edilerek kapatıldı. Postoperatif yapılankontrollerde herhangi bir kanama veya iyileşmeyle ilgili problemi saptanmadanyara yeri iyileşti. Sonuç olarak; Hemofili A hastalığı hayati tehlike ihtivaedebilen önemli bir sistemik hastalıktır. Bu tanıyı almış hastalarda cerrahiişlemler hematoloğun kontrolünde en uygun steril şartlarda uygun kan değerlerisağlanarak yapılmalıdır.

Hastalara ait panoramik radyografi görüntüleri dental anomalilerin tespit edilmesi amacıyla 2 araştırmacı tarafından değerlendirildi. Çalışmada hastaların panoramik radyografi görüntüleri üzerinde tespit edilen, alt keser diş eksikliği, sürnümerer diş, ektopi, gömülü kalma, mikrodonti, taurodontism ve dilaserasyon olmak üzere 7 tip dental anomali cinsiyetler arası dağılımına göre istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiştir Bulgular: En sık görülen anomali %4,2 oranıyla gömülü kalma olarak tespit edildi. Taurodontizm % 0,02 lik oranla en az görülen anomali olarak tespit edildi. Gömülü diş görülme sıklığı erkek bireylerde, kadınlara kıyasla istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede daha fazla bulunmuştur. Taurodontizm en az rastlanılan anomali olarak tespit edilmiştir., Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of seven different dental anomalies and tendency to dental anomalies among the sexes living in southeastern of Turkey. Methods: This retrospective study was designed on panoramic radiographs of randomly selected 4256 patients that applied to Adıyaman University Faculty of Dentistry and Adıyaman Oral and Dental Health Center. Panoramic radiographs of patients were evaluated by two investigators to determine dental anomalies. In the study, seven types of dental anomalies were analyzed statistically on the panoramic radiography images of the patients, including lack of lower incisor, supernumerary tooth, ectopia, impaction, microdontia, taurodontism and dilaseration. Results: The most common anomaly was found to be impaction with a incidence of 4.2%. Taurodontism was found to be a least common anomaly with a incidence of 0.02%. The incidence of impaction was found to be significantly higher in male individuals compared to female. The incidence of ectopic teeth was significantly higher in males than in females. The incidence of lack of lower incisors was found to be significantly higher in females than males. Conclusion: Impaction is the most frequently encountered anomaly in the individuals living in the southeastern of Turkey. Lack of lower incisor was more frequent in females, while impaction and ectopic tooth were more common in males. In addition, there is no statistically difference between the genders in terms of the frequency of anomalies such as supernumerary tooth, dilaseration, taurodontism and microdontia. Taurodontism was determined as the least common anomaly.

Keratokistik odontojenik tümör (KCOT) odontojenik orijinlinadir görülen iyi huylu intraosseöz bir tümör olup agresif davranışı ve çevre dokularainfiltratif özelliğine sahiptir. Spesifik histopatolojik özellikler gösterirlerve yüksek bir nüks oranına sahiptirler. Bu sunumda 17 yaşında bayan hastada sağmandibula ramus bölgesinde gömülü yirmi yaş dişiyle ilişkili, geniş boyutlukeratokistik odontojenik tümör vakası ve dekompresyon tedavisini sunulmaktadır.Dekompresyon, boşluğun kapanmasını önlemek için kişiselleştirilmişçıkarılabilir alet yardımı ile uygulanmıştır. Hastanın 3. ve 6. ay kontrol radyografilerindekalsifikasyon odaklarının görülmeye başlandığı ve lezyonun hacminin küçülmesi sonucugömülü dişin sürmeye devam ettiği görüldü. 18 ay sonrasında ise alınantomografide bölgenin tamamında normal kontrast bir görüntü mevcuttu ve ağıziçinde iyileşme sorunsuzdu. It showsspecific histopathological features, and has a high recurrence rate. In this report,we present a case of 17 year old female patient with large-sized KCOT associatedwith impacted third molar in the mandibular ramus region and its decompressiontreatment. Decompression was applied by a customized removable appliance toprevent the closing of the cyst cavity. On the 3rd and 6th months of thecontrol radiography, it was seen that the calcification foci began to be seenand erupting the impacted teeth as a result of shrinkage of the lesion volume. After18 months, there was a normal contrast image on the tomography and theintraoral healing was uneventfully.Keywords: Customizedremovable aparey, decompressiontreatment, keratocystic odontogenic tumor.
