The article presents a historiographic review of "Siberia: XX Century". This interuniversity collection of research papers was published in Kemerovo in 1997–2007. Based on standard research methods and special historical and historiographic principles, the authors analyzed the periodical as a complex historiographic source. The quantitative analysis made it possible to calculate the ratio of the special issues, to assess the editorial board and authors, to describe the research subjects, etc. The semantic analysis was based on the content analysis, which also revealed to what degree the authors of the journal participated in the historical discourse. The paper features retrospective and prospective analyzes of the main research works of the leading Siberian scientists published in "Siberia: XX Century". The research objective was to identify the patterns of the current historiographic situation based on the state of knowledge of the key historical processes in Siberia.

This article presents the history of the formation of the State Central Institute for Advanced Medical Education, the present-day Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (Moscow). This study involved documents found in the Russian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation. The problem statement is the first of is kind in Russian historiography. The paper contains a detailed description of the early years of the Central Institute for Advanced Medical Education (1930–1938). It also outlines the main directions of the Institute activity during the period in question, e.g. correspondence courses for doctors from remote regions. The authors investigated the personnel issue in the context of historical reconstruction. They demonstrated the key challenges that the institution had to face and address in its early days. The analysis proved that the Institute provided invaluable experience in training professional medical personnel in the shortest time possible under difficult historical conditions.

The present research featured a generalized historical experience in the formation and development of a particular segment of Soviet propaganda during the early Cold War (1946–1953). The authors focused on the visual propaganda as a component of ideological impact. The study involved 240 propaganda posters and over 2,000 magazine and newspaper caricatures published in 1946–1953. The reconstruction of events was part of content analysis of the ideological and propaganda campaigns that the USSR waged as its confrontation with the West began to escalate. The concept of Soviet patriotism was the key idea in the state ideology. The analysis made it possible to specify some features of the symbolic language of visual propaganda. It also revealed the relationship between international and domestic political scenarios through certain varieties of the enemy image. The authors assessed the effectiveness of propaganda in terms of social and political attitude expressed by Soviet citizens. The authors revealed a complex of various means, which included official publications, posters, and cartoons and was used to influence the mass consciousness and form certain ideological attitudes.

This research reconstructed the biography of Professor A. R. Rosenberg, MD, who was the first head of the Microbiology Department of Stalinsk State Institute of Advanced Medical Training (the modern city of Novokuznetsk) in 1951–1953. The paper focuses on the prosecution this scientist and educator who suffered from the so-called "Doctors’ plot" (1953). "The Doctors' plot" is regarded as the final event of the anti-cosmopolitanism campaign of 1949–1953, which was directed primarily against the Jewish intellectuals. The campaign was notorious for the severe attacks on the academia. At the Stalinsk Institute, they launched a "purge" based on the ethnic principle, which resulted in a criminal case against some employees, including A. R. Rosenberg. The arrested educators were declared "members of the Jewish-bourgeois nationalist group". The charges brought were connected with the ideological principles of the campaign against cosmopolitanism and "the Doctors’ plot". After the criminal case was terminated, A. R. Rosenberg was reinstated in his position. However, poor health made him retire in 1953. A. R. Rosenberg shared the fate of the Soviet intelligentsia who suffered during the campaign against cosmopolitanism and "the Doctors’ plot".

The authors of this article aimed at reconstructing the biography of B. I. Fuks in the context of the history of the Soviet era and its most important events. Boris Ilyich (Ber Eljich) Fuks (1897–1973) was a Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, a surgeon, the founder of Novokuznetsk Surgical School. His scientific and pedagogical activity was primarily connected with the Tomsk State University and the State Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors, consistently located in Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Stalinsk (Novokuznetsk). The research is based on the documents found in the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the State Archives of Tomsk Region, the State Archives of Kemerovo Region, the State Archives of Kemerovo Region in Novokuznetsk, and the Archives of Novokuznetsk State Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors, and some publications in the central and local periodicals. The documents from the personal archive and memoirs of B. B. Fuks, the son of B. I. Fuks (Boston, USA), made up a separate important set of sources.

The paper presents the analysis of the researches dedicated to the problem of “Ideological campaigns in Western Siberia in 1945 – 1953” in the contemporary Russian historiography. The authors analyze a collection of works on this problem published in the early 1990s – 2015. The main directions in the researches of this topic were identified, which allowed classifying them into problematic thematic groups and identifying the promising research directions. The main group of the research works reflects the essence of the ideological campaigns targeted at influencing the Soviet intelligentsia. Researchers started reflecting over the ideological campaigns that focused on the formation of the image of J. V. Stalin in the mass consciousness. Further on, researchers addressed a number of aspects of the ideological campaigns that focused on repressions. The authors state that there is no complex academic publication dedicated to this problem and conclude that the problem of ideological campaigns in Western Siberia in the period of “late Stalinism” has not been studied thoroughly. The events of the ideological campaigns in Kemerovo Region were the first to be reconstructed. Creating generalizing reviews of the works covering the events of the ideological campaigns in different regions of Western Siberia in 1945 – 1953 is a promising research direction.

In the period of late Stalinism (1945 – 1953), the participants of the Civil War on the side of the White movement remained a category of the population controlled by the authorities. Boris Iljich (Ber Eljich) Fuchs (1897 – 1973) was Doctor of Medical Science, Professor, Head of Surgery Department at Stalin (Novokuznetsk) State Medical Refresher Institute in 1952 – 1973, founder of Novokuznetsk Surgery School. In 1919, B. I. Fuchs, a student of Tomsk University, was mobilized to A. V. Kolchak’s army and served there for several months as a warrant doctor in Krasnoyarsk military hospital. Later, this very fact became a discreditable one for the doctor. It was mentioned when B. I. Fuchs was going to join the All-Union Communist Party of the Bolsheviks in 1951; together with the other “negative” information it was used against the scientist during the “Doctors’ Case” in 1953. For the first time this paper reconstructs B. I. Fuchs’ biography drawing much attention to the consequences of the “White” past and to the “Doctors’ Case” events. The documents of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, the State Archive of Tomsk Region, the State Archive of Kemerovo Region, the State Archive of Kemerovo Region in Novokuznetsk, the Archive of Novokuznetsk State Medical Refresher Institute were the base for the research.

The paper focuses on the specifics of tourism activity at the contemporary stage. At present, tourism is a key sphere of contemporary economics targeted at satisfying people’s needs and improving the quality of their lives. The authors appeal to the legislative acts of the Russian Federation, primarily to the Federal Law № 132-FZ “On the Basis of Tourism Activity in the Russian Federation” (signed on 24 November 1996). The paper presents some of the existing classifications of types of tourism. The tour as the core of tourism activity is defined, its components, features, and marketing factors are defined. The features of tour operators’ and travel agents’ activities are revealed. The authors emphasize the fact that tourism activity is oriented at providing tourists with the opportunity to choose from a range of offered services, as well as at ensuring the protection of tourists’ rights and interests.

The paper presents the milestones of the biography of Kaleria A. Zabolotskaya, a professor at the Department of Contemporary Russian History, Faculty of History and International Relations,KemerovoStateUniversity. The authors identify the fields of Professor Zabolotskaya’s research and teaching activities. Her major research interests lie in socioeconomic development ofSiberiaof the contemporary period and the sources studies of Russian history. Her educational activity was primarily connected with teaching courses on Contemporary Russian History and Source Studies of Russian History.

The paper presents the results of analysis of contemporary Russian historiography of the campaign against cosmopolitism inSiberia, developed over the past twenty years (1994 – 2014). To date, there is no complete characterization of the stated subject. The author has identified and examined the works devoted to this campaign, which constitute individual problem-clusters. These are general works of various thematic content, publications, reflecting the policy of the state in relation to the creative, scientific and educational, scientific, engineering and technical intelligentsia, doctors, and works clarifying relations between the state and Jewich communities. In this case, the researchers studied events of the campaign having taken place in the Kemerovo Region in more detail. The aspect that draws particular attention of the researchers is the policy of the state in respect to the scientific and educational intelligentsia ofSiberia. At present, there is a lack of general works on the history of the campaign in Siberian regions and the accompanying repression. The author considers creation of biographical works to be an essential and promising way of research.

The paper focuses on the ideological campaigns connected with the image of J. V. Stalin and expanded in USSR in 1946 – 1953. The authors analyze the content of the campaign materials on the base of Kemerovo region. In the above mentioned formulation of the problem, the topic is studied for the first time. The archival documents and periodicals served as the basis for the preparation of the study. In early postwar years, the image of J. V. Stalin in the Soviet ideology continued to evolve. All political and economic achievements of the country, the constant care for the people, Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945, future achievements of the state were associated with the name of the leader. Ideological campaigns were aimed at mobilizing the society in the postwar restoration of the USSR. They consistently received support and feedback from Kemerovo region population. The ideological campaigns were particularly urgent in Kemerovo region – the region of industrial development, as one of the campaigns’ components was the adoption of higher labour commitments.

The research aims at revealing the main tendencies of establishing Stalinsk (Novokuznetsk) State Medical Refresher Institute (SMRI) in 1951 – 1953. In 1951 SMRI was moved from Novosibirsk to Stalinsk (currently, Novokuznetsk), Kemerovo Region. At that time, the adaptation of the Institution to a new and complex environment, its human resources formation, and consolidation of facilities were characteristic activities of SMRI. The Institute was reoriented with regional specific character taken into account.
