Abstract Background Routine prenatal care fails to identify a large proportion of women at risk of fetal growth restriction (FGR). Metabolomics, the comprehensive analysis of low molecular weight molecules (metabolites) in biological samples, can provide new and earlier biomarkers of prenatal health. Recent research has suggested possible predictive first trimester urine metabolites correlating to fetal growth restriction in the third trimester. Our objective in this current study was to examine urinary metabolic profiles in the first and second trimester of pregnancy in relation to third trimester FGR in a US population from a large, multi-center cohort study of healthy pregnant women. Methods We conducted a nested case-control study within The Infant Development and the Environment Study (TIDES), a population-based multi-center pregnancy cohort study. We identified 53 cases of FGR based on the AUDIPOG [Neonatal growth - AUDIPOG [Internet]. [cited 29 Nov 2016]. Cases were matched to 106 controls based on study site, maternal age (± 2 years), parity, and infant sex. NMR spectroscopy was used to assess concentrations of four urinary metabolites that have been previously associated with FGR (tyrosine, acetate, formate, and trimethylamine) in first and second trimester urine samples. We fit multivariate conditional logistic regression models to estimate the odds of FGR in relation to urinary concentrations of these individual metabolites in the first and second trimesters. Exploratory analyses of custom binned spectroscopy results were run to consider other potentially related metabolites. Results We found no significant association between the relative concentrations of each of the four metabolites and odds of FGR. Fungi are organisms that can be found dispersed in the environment and in the atmospheric air. They interact with humans, animals and plants, and they may represent risks to human health.Therefore, this study aimed to identify and isolate airborne fungi in a private hospital in the municipality of Sinop, MT, from adult and neonatal intensive care units, surgery center and their doorknobs and phones. The study was carried out in May 2014, after asepsis of the sectors chosen. For the collection of fungi in the air, 75 Petri dishes (25 for each sector) containing Sabouraud agar with chloramphenicol were exposed for 10 minutes. We collected samples of doorknobs and phones using swabs. The samples were stored in test tubes containing a 0.1% saline solution and then spread on plates with PDA medium supplemented with penicillin.The plates were incubated for 7 days at 25°C.The identification of airborne fungi was based on the association of macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of primary cultures. We identified 18 genera of filamentous fungi, and the highest colonization rates were found in the doorknobs and phones. The airborne fungi found in the evaluated sectors should be a warning to the hospital users, since these individuals can be considered the main disseminators of these fungi in hospital environments.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of water distributed in the city of Juara-MT as the physico-chemical parameters and total and fecal coliforms. It was selected 20 locations between residences and commercial establishments that best characterized the urban area of the city for the analysis and comparison of the parameters of pH, color, turbidity, fluorine, chlorine residual and total and fecal coliforms. The results were compared with the limits established by the Ministério da Saúde and also with the Conselho Nacional do Meio Ambiente (CONAMA). We have not detected any traces of total coliforms. Color, pH, turbidity and chlorine residual levels were within the legal limits established. The suitable values of fluorine were not achieved in some samples. The results showed that the water used by the residents on the dates of collection was within acceptable limits for human consumption, except for the amount of fluorine in some samples.

The consumption of raw food such as vegetables and fruits, is a practice that causes several times in the contamination of the intestinal tract. The water used for irrigation of the vegetable gardens represents a possible source of contamination of the product, compromising human health. This study aimed to evaluate the bacteriological quality of the water of irrigation used in vegetable gardens of Sinop-MT. It was determined the most probable number (MPN/100 mL) of total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms. All samples indicated presence of total coliforms. Concerning to thermotolerant coliforms, all samples were within the standard. Although the samples did not indicate extensive fecal contamination, it should be emphasized the importance of a rigorous system of sanitary surveillance in irrigation water of vegetable crops, improving the hygienic-sanitary conditions of vegetables offered to residents.

Accidents involving biological material can cause diseases to the professional healthcare and also bring psychosocial effects. The aim of this study was to characterize the accidents occurring with biological material with professional of clinical laboratories of Sinop-MT. Data were collected by a questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic and health variables. 21 (87.5%) of respondents stated that they never suffered any kind of accident. One of the injured workers reported that there was involvement in your emotional life. It is observed underreporting of occupational accidents by employees affected, making it difficult to increase research on the subject and actions about the problem.

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is the leafy vegetable most consumed in the world and present high content of pro vitamin A in green leaves; it’s rich in calcium and iron and presents reasonable amounts of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C. When eaten raw in salads they can to transmit pathogens if are inadequately cleaned. This study aimed to evaluate the microbiological quality of lettuce served in self-service restaurants in the city of Sinop – MT, concerning the total and thermotolerant coliforms. The laboratory analysis used was the Most Probable Number method (MPN). All samples were positive for total coliforms, reaching values above 1100 MPN/g, and when analyzed to confirm the presence of coliforms tolerant, all samples were negative. These results allowed observing that the values found for tolerant coliforms are within the standards established by legislation, but the total coliform count indicates poor hygiene lettuce served and consumed

Hospital infections are the most frequent and important complications occurring in hospitalized patients. The concern is greater when the affected hospital infection are neonates admitted to intensive care units where the risk increases due to factors such as prematurity, low birth weight, types of procedures adopted and susceptibility due to their immature immune system. The prevention and control measures involve detection of hospital infection, development of norms of standardization, collaboration with the training of all health professionals, achieving control of antibiotic prescription and technical support for hospital administration.
