Objective: Sensory deficits are important risk factors for delirium but have been investigated in single-center studies and single clinical settings. This multicenter study aims to evaluate the association between hearing and visual impairment or bi-sensory impairment (visual and hearing impairment) and delirium. Design: Cross-sectional study nested in the 2017 "Delirium Day" project. Setting and participants: Patients 65 years and older admitted to acute hospital medical wards, emergency departments, rehabilitation wards, nursing homes, and hospices in Italy. Methods: Delirium was assessed with the 4AT (a short tool for delirium assessment) and sensory deficits with a clinical evaluation. We assessed the association between delirium, hearing and visual impairment in multivariable logistic regression models, adjusting for: Model 1, we included predisposing factors for delirium (ie, dementia, weight loss and autonomy in the activities of daily living); Model 2, we added to Model 1 variables, which could be considered precipitating factors for delirium (ie, psychoactive drugs and urinary catheters). Results: A total of 3038 patients were included; delirium prevalence was 25%. Patients with delirium had a higher prevalence of hearing impairment (30.5% vs 18%; P < .001), visual impairment (24.2% vs 15.7%; P < .01) and bi-sensory impairment (16.2% vs 7.5%) compared with those without delirium. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis, the presence of bi-sensory impairment was associated with delirium in Model 1 [odds ratio (OR) 1.5, confidence interval (CI) 1.2-2.1; P = .00] and in Model 2 (OR 1.4; CI 1.1-1.9; P = .02), whereas the presence of visual and hearing impairment alone was not associated with delirium either in Model 1 (OR 0.8; CI 0.6-1.2, P = .36; OR 1.1; CI 0.8-1.4; P = .42) or in Model 2 (OR 0.8, CI 0.6-1.2, P = .27; OR 1.1, CI 0.8-1.4, P = .63). Conclusions and implications: Our findings support the importance of routine screening and specific interventions by a multidisciplinary team to implement optimal management of sensory impairments and hence prevention and the management of the patients with delirium.

In interrupted concrete structures is fundamentally relevant to adopt protective measures, which purpose is minimizing degradation to ensure project life cycle, in addition to subserve a future construction resumption. In this context, this paper presents a case study of prestressed and reinforced concrete structures, located in Foz do Iguacu, Parana, Brazil, whose execution was interrupted in 2014. At that time, the constructions were in superstructure execution phase. With an area of 155,000 m2 and investment of $ 31 million, the constructions belong to Brazilian Federal Government and are destined to Federal University of Latin-American Integration (Unila) installations. It was observed that performed protection works were mainly related to exposed reinforcement protection, waterproof and protection of structures in contact with soil, and drainage services execution. The protection costs were approximately 1.4% of investment value, following the Sitter’s “Law of fives". Thus, the technical and economic importance of protective measures adoption in concrete structures that had their works interrupted is noted, so that the case study serves as a model for other buildings in same situation.

The size of an ion affects everything from the structure of water to life itself. In this report, to gauge their size, ions dissolved in water are forced electrically through a sub-nanometer-diameter pore spanning a thin membrane and the current is measured. The measurements reveal an ion-selective conductance that vanishes in pores, The size of an ion affects everything from the structure of water to life itself. Here, a sub-nanometer diameter pore sputtered through a thin silicon nitride membrane is used to systematically test ion permeability by measuring the electrolytic current and current noise and show that the ions move with a grossly distorted hydration shell in a correlated way.

We report on the α-sexithiophene sub-monolayer growth with supersonic molecular beam deposition by investigating how the kinetic energy of the impinging molecules influences the growth on substrates with different surface wettabilities and temperatures. The results show that the energy of the impinging molecules affects the morphology of the molecular film increasing the coverage and the island size, and reducing the fractality of the sub-monolayer islands. The possibility of directing growth of more ordered islands could improve the performances of electronic devices, which are greatly affected by the structure of the first monolayers.

The modifications to the vibrational spectra produced by inclusion into cyclodextrins on the vibrational spectra of of the non-steroidal anti–inflammatory drug ibuprofen, by inclusion into cyclodextrins have been investigated by means of Raman scattering and numerical simulation. These changes are discussed and explained by comparison with the theoretical vibrational wavenumbersfrequencies and Raman intensities obtained by quantum and classical numerical simulations, disentangling the effects directly related to the complexation process, from those to be ascribed to non-covalent dimerization of ibuprofen due to hydrogen bonding. Slot waveguides are very promising for optical sensing applications because of their peculiar spatial mode profile. In this paper we have carried out a detailed analysis of mode confinement properties in slot waveguides realized in very low refractive index materials. We show that the sensitivity of a slot waveguide is not directly related to the refractive index contrast of high and low materials forming the waveguide. Thus, a careful design of the structures allows the realization of high sensitivity devices even in very low refractive index materials (e.g., polymers) to be achieved. Advantages of low index dielectrics in terms of cost, functionalization and ease of fabrication are discussed while keeping both CMOS compatibility and integrable design schemes. Finally, applications of low index slot waveguides as substitute of bulky fiber capillary sensors or in ring resonator architectures are addressed. Theoretical results of this work are relevant to well established polymer technologies.

- Abstract
Conjugated small molecules are very interesting both as a model to study the growth model of crystalline organic films and as a very good performance organic material. Vacuum deposition is the most suitable technique to obtain high purity and order films. Nevertheless, the high anisotropy of organics makes easy the formation of different polymorphs or/and orientations that strongly limit the quality of the films. The innovative supersonic molecular beam deposition (SuMBD) technique, developed at the IFN-Lab, allows a wider control on the growth. The kinetic energy (EK) of the impinging molecules is the key factor that affects the growth modifying the assembling processes of molecules and their surface mobility. We report on the alfa-sexithiophene sub-monolayer growth, investigating the influence of energetic state of the impinging molecules, surface energy and substrate temperature. Each growth parameter affects the morphology of the molecular film in terms of coverage and fractality of the sub-monolayer islands. Optimizing the different parameters, we obtain larger and smoother islands and low density of grain-boundaries. The best conditions, including high kinetic energy of the beam, give rise to organic thin film transistors (OFETs) with a field effect mobility value of 1.5.10-1 V?cm-1?s-1, twice higher than the best values in literature. We describe the development of optical waveguides and adia batic tapers based on SiON-glasses for a lab-on-chip device with fluorescence optical detection. Sensing is based on evanescent near-field excitation of biomolecules captured on the surface of a thin waveguide. First, the composition of SiON waveguides was opti mized to reduce losses for visible light. Waveguides with refractive index of ~1.63 showed propagation losses of ~0.8-0.9 dB/cm at 633 nm. A low loss adiabatic taper was developed to convert efficiently the light from a mu lti mode waveguide into a thin mono-modal one. Design of the taper was done by calculating numerically the transmission efficiency using a finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD). Simulation results show that losses lower than ~1 dB are obtained for taper lengths of 100 to 300 micron, which indicates an efficient mode conversion. Based on this, tapers of different lengths were realized by grayscale lithography and by reactive ion etching. Their optical testing shows best insertion losses of ~1 dB at 633 nm for multimode to monomode waveguide transitions. Keywords: silicon oxynitride, grayscale lithography, waveguide taper, propagation losses

Channel waveguide-based evanescent-field optical sensors are developed to make a fully integrated chip biosensor. The optical system senses fluorescent analytes immobilized within a micrometric sized bioreactor well realized within an optical waveguide. The main novelty of this work is related to the fact that, within the bioreactor well, the excitation of the fluorescent signal is achieved by means of the evanescent field propagating through a silicon oxynitride waveguide. The immobilization of the emitting molecules is realized by functionalization of the waveguide surface by a wet chemical method. These photonic biosensors are successfully applied to detect low surface concentration (10−11 mol cm−2) of a green emitting organic dye. This approach could permit the selective detection of a wide range of chemical and biological species in complex matrices and can be exploited to set-up array-based screening devices. In this regard, the preferential excitation of the dye molecules in the close vicinity of the exposed waveguide core is also analysed.

Introduction: Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation disorders (FAODs) are a heterogeneous group of hereditary autosomal recessive diseases included in newborn screening (NBS) program in Italy. The aim of this study was to analyse FAODs cases, identified either clinically or by NBS,for clinical and genetic characterization and to evaluate a five years' experience of NBS, in the attempt to figure out the complexity of genotype-phenotype correlation and to confirm the clinical impact of NBS in our centre experience. Materials and methods: We analysed FAODs patients diagnosed either by NBS or clinically, followed since February 2014 to April 2019 at the Regional Screening Centre and Inherited Metabolic Diseases Unit of Verona. Diagnosis was confirmed by plasma acylcarnitines, urinary organic acids, enzymatic and genetic testing. For not clear genotypes due to the presence of variants of uncertain significance, in silico predictive tools have been used as well as enzymatic activity assays. Patients underwent clinical, nutritional and biochemical follow up. Results: We diagnosed 30 patients with FAODs. 20 by NBS: 3 CUD, 6 SCADD, 5 MCADD, 4 VLCADD, 2 MADD. Overall incidence of FAODs diagnosed by NBS was 1:4316 newborns. No one reported complications during the follow up period. 10 patients were diagnosed clinically: 2 CUD, 2 CPT2D, 1 VLCADD, 5 MADD. Mean age at diagnosis was 29.3 years. Within this group, complications or symptoms were reported at diagnosis, but not during follow-up. 12 mutations not previously reported in literature were found, all predicted as pathogenic or likely pathogenic. Discussion and conclusions: Our study highlighted the great phenotypic variability and molecular heterogeneity of FAODs and confirmed the importance of a tailored follow up and treatment. Despite the short duration of follow up, early identification by NBS prevented diseases related complications and resulted in normal growth and psycho-motor development as well.

We report on a new hybrid approach to realize optical slab waveguides for optical amplification purposes. The structure consists of a dye-doped polymer core (PMMA) deposited over an oxidized porous silicon (PS) cladding layer formed on a silicon wafer. The very low refractive index ( n = 1.16) achievable in the cladding allows obtaining monomodal behavior with high confinement factors ( Γ TE = 96%) even for very thin cores (400 nm). Optically excited guided luminescence shows stimulated emission, strong line narrowing and a clear threshold and superlinear behavior with pump energy. By means of the variable stripe length (VSL) technique, values of net optical gain up to 113 dB/cm (constant over 3 mm) and absolute amplification values up to 34 dB have been measured at 694 nm when pumping with 80 mJ/cm 2 energy pulses. These results validate the use of oxidized PS as a cladding layer in silicon photonics.

Risk management and flood protection are frequently assessed through geo-morphometric evaluations resulting by floods events. If we aim at elevation models with high resolutions and covering large areas, airborne LiDAR surveys can represent a good compromise among costs, time and uncertainty. The major limitation of the nonbathymetric LiDAR surveys consists in the detection of wet areas. Indeed, accounting for more than 20 cm of water depth, LiDAR signal increases exponentially its error. In this paper we present a comparison of the results concerning the application of a colour bathymetry methodology for the production of hybrid DTMs (HDTM). These elevation models were derived by merging LiDAR data for the dry areas and colour bathymetry for the wet areas. The methodological approach consists in a statistical regression between water depth and RGB band intensity values from contemporary aerial images. This methodology includes the use of filters in order to reduce possible errors due to the application of the model, to estimate precise “in-channel” points. The study areas are three different human impacted gravel-bed rivers of the North-East of Italy. This methodology has been applied in three sub-reaches of Brenta River, two of Piave River and two of Tagliamento River before and after relevant flood events with recurrence interval 10 years. Potentials and limitations of the applied bathymetric method, the comparison of its use in different fluvial contexts and its possibility of employment for geo-morphometric evaluations, were then tested. DGPS control points (1841, 2638, 10473 respectively for Brenta, Piave and Tagliamento River) were finally used to evaluate the accuracy of wet areas. Results showed that, in each model, wet areas vertical errors were comparable to those featured by LiDAR data for the dry areas.

The evaluation of the morphological quality of rivers is essential to define the level of alteration and for implementing future management strategies that consider also hazards related to fluvial processes and channel dynamics. This type of evaluation is particularly significant for the Italian rivers, that, as in many other European countries, have a very high level of human pressure. Recently, in Italy, the National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research has promoted a methodology named IDRAIM for hydromorphological analysis of streams that pursues an integrated approach aimed at a harmonized implementation of both the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD, 2000/60/EC), and the EU Floods Directive (2007/60/EC). In this paper we present the application of the Morphological Quality Index (MQI) protocol, which is part of IDRAIM, to determine the assessment of the morphological quality of the Cordevole River. The water network (only collectors greater than thirdorder were considered), has been divided, through GIS software, into 132 river reaches of homogeneous morphological characteristics, according to the first phase of the method. At this stage the semi-automatic calculation of lateral confinement (defined by “degree of confinement” and a “confinement index”) was tried, in order to reduce the implementing time. The application of 28 indicators was made for 42 reaches representing the major river types and human pressures in the site investigation. The results showed that 48% of the analyzed reaches have a very good or good quality status, 38% have a moderate morphological quality, while only 14% have the characteristics of poor or very poor quality. The main causes that lead to a strong alteration of the terms of reference are linked to i) poor connectivity between hillslopes and river corridor, that is very important for the natural supply of sediment and large wood; ii) absence of vegetation in the river corridor, that is functional to a range of geomorphic processes; iii) presence of artificial elements, particularly the bedload interception structures in the catchment, bank protection along the reach, and the removal of sediment, large wood and vegetation.

Background: Delirium is thought to be common across various settings of care; however, still little research has been conducted in rehabilitation. Aim: We investigated the prevalence of delirium, its features and motor subtypes in older patients admitted to rehabilitation facilities during the three editions of the “Delirium Day project”. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in which 1237 older patients (age ≥ 65 years old) admitted to 50 Italian rehabilitation wards during the three editions of the “Delirium Day project” (2015 to 2017) were included. Delirium was evaluated through the 4AT and its motor subtype with the Delirium Motor Subtype Scale. Results: Delirium was detected in 226 patients (18%), and the most recurrent motor subtype was mixed (37%), followed by hypoactive (26%), hyperactive (21%) and non-motor one (16%). In a multivariate Poisson regression model with robust variance, factors associated with delirium were: disability in basic (PR 1.48, 95%CI: 1.17–1.9, p value 0.001) and instrumental activities of daily living (PR 1.58, 95%CI: 1.08–2.32, p value 0.018), dementia (PR 2.10, 95%CI: 1.62–2.73, p value < 0.0001), typical antipsychotics (PR 1.47, 95%CI: 1.10–1.95, p value 0.008), antidepressants other than selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (PR 1.3, 95%CI: 1.02–1.66, p value 0.035), and physical restraints (PR 2.37, 95%CI: 1.68–3.36, p value < 0.0001). Conclusion: This multicenter study reports that 2 out 10 patients admitted to rehabilitations had delirium on the index day. Mixed delirium was the most prevalent subtype. Delirium was associated with unmodifiable (dementia, disability) and modifiable (physical restraints, medications) factors. Identification of these factors should prompt specific interventions aimed to prevent or mitigate delirium.

Introduction Delirium and sarcopenia are common, although underdiagnosed, geriatric syndromes. Several pathological mechanisms can link delirium and low skeletal muscle mass, but few studies have investigated their association. We aimed to investigate (1) the association between delirium and low skeletal muscle mass and (2) the possible role of calf circumference mass in finding cases with delirium. Methods The analyses were conducted employing the cross-sectional “Delirium Day” initiative, on patient 65 years and older admitted to acute hospital medical wards, emergency departments, rehabilitation wards, nursing homes and hospices in Italy in 2017. Delirium was diagnosed as a 4 + score at the 4-AT scale. Low skeletal muscle mass was operationally defined as calf circumference ≤ 34 cm in males and ≤ 33 cm in females. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between low skeletal muscle mass and delirium. The discriminative ability of calf circumference was evaluated using non-parametric ROC analyses. Results A sample of 1675 patients was analyzed. In total, 73.6% of participants had low skeletal muscle mass and 24.1% exhibited delirium. Low skeletal muscle mass and delirium showed an independent association (OR: 1.50; 95% CI 1.09–2.08). In the subsample of patients without a diagnosis of dementia, the inclusion of calf circumference in a model based on age and sex significantly improved its discriminative accuracy [area under the curve (AUC) 0.69 vs 0.57, p Discussion and conclusion Low muscle mass is independently associated with delirium. In patients without a previous diagnosis of dementia, calf circumference may help to better identify those who develop delirium.

Article, Being taller is associated with enhanced longevity, and higher education and earnings. We reanalysed 1472 population-based studies, with measurement of height on more than 18.6 million participants to estimate mean height for people born between 1896 and 1996 in 200 countries. The largest gain in adult height over the past century has occurred in South Korean women and Iranian men, who became 20.2 cm (95% credible interval 17.5–22.7) and 16.5 cm (13.3–19.7) taller, respectively. In contrast, there was little change in adult height in some sub-Saharan African countries and in South Asia over the century of analysis. The tallest people over these 100 years are men born in the Netherlands in the last quarter of 20th century, whose average heights surpassed 182.5 cm, and the shortest were women born in Guatemala in 1896 (140.3 cm; 135.8–144.8). The height differential between the tallest and shortest populations was 19-20 cm a century ago, and has remained the same for women and increased for men a century later despite substantial changes in the ranking of countries., published version, http://purl.org/eprint/status/PeerReviewed

- Abstract
Background/objectives: The relationship between macronutrient intake and cognitive decline in older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains underexplored., Methods: This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the association between the protein-to-carbohydrate energy ratio (%E:P) and cognitive impairment among 192 elderly T2DM patients. Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and the Self-Administered Gerocognitive Exam (SAGE), while dietary intake data, including (%E:P), was gathered using a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire., Results: Participants had a mean age of 71 ± 6 years, 46.4% were female, and the median BMI was 30 ± 4 kg/m
2 . After adjusting for confounding variables, patients in the highest (%E:P) tertile showed significantly higher MoCA and SAGE scores compared to those in the lowest tertile ( p < 0.005). We identified an optimal (%E:P) threshold of 0.375 for predicting cognitive impairment, with a sensitivity of 53% and specificity of 64%., Conclusions: These findings suggest that a lower (%E:P) ratio may be a risk factor for cognitive impairment in elderly T2DM patients. Monitoring this ratio may serve as an early detection tool for cognitive deterioration. Moreover, current protein intake recommendations for older adults with T2DM may be insufficient to prevent cognitive impairment. Further research is needed to establish optimal dietary guidelines for this population., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflicts of interest.- Published

- Abstract
The effect of liver fibrosis on mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia risk in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients is unclear. Therefore, we performed a prospective cross-sectional study on 219 patients with T2DM and older than 60 years to evaluate the association between liver fibrosis, liver steatosis, and cognitive impairment. The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) was used to screen for MCI or dementia. Liver fibrosis was estimated using the non-invasive Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score, and liver steatosis was assessed with the hepatic steatosis index. The mean age was 71 ± 6 years, 47% were women and according to MoCA cut-off values, 53.88% had MCI and 16.43% had dementia. A moderate or high risk of advanced fibrosis was significantly higher in patients with MCI or dementia compared to those with normal cognition ( p < 0.001). After adjusting for confounders, a FIB-4 score greater than 1.54 was associated with MCI or dementia ( p = 0.039). Multivariate analysis identified age over 70.5 years, antiplatelet medication use, and a FIB-4 score above 1.54 as the most relevant risk factors. Liver fibrosis, but not liver steatosis, is associated with MCI or dementia in older T2DM patients, suggesting that FIB-4 score might be a simple biomarker for the detection of cognitive impairment.

- Abstract
This is a report on a pilot study that tests the feasibility of assembling photonic metamaterials (PMs) using light gradient forces. Following a strategy that works like modular construction, light gradient forces, produced by a tightly focused, 1D standing wave optical trap, time-multiplexed across a 2D lattice are used to assemble voxels consisting of prefabricated, monodispersed nanoparticles (NPs) with radii ranging from 30 to 500 nm into 3D structures on a hydrogel scaffold. Hundreds of NPs can be manipulated concurrently into a complex heterogeneous voxel this way, and then the process can be repeated by stitching together voxels to form a metamaterial of any size, shape, and constituency although imperfectly. Imperfections introduce random phase shifts and amplitude variations that can have an adverse effect on the band structure. Regardless, PMs are created this way using two different dielectric NPs, polystyrene and rutile, and then the near-infrared performance for each is analyzed with angle-, wavelength-, and polarization-dependent reflection spectroscopy. The cross-polarized spectra show evidence of a resonance peak. Interestingly, whereas the line shape from the polystyrene array is symmetric, the rutile array is not, which may be indicative of Fano resonance. So, even with the structural defects, reflection spectroscopy reveals a resonance., (© 2024 The Author(s). Advanced Materials published by Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

- Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus has a worldwide prevalence of 10.5% in the adult population (20-79 years), and by 2045, the prevalence is expected to keep rising to one in eight adults living with diabetes. Mild cognitive impairment has a global prevalence of 19.7% in adults aged 50 years. Both conditions have shown a concerning increase in prevalence rates over the past 10 years, highlighting a growing public health challenge. Future forecasts indicate that the prevalence of dementia (no estimations done for individuals with mild cognitive impairment) is expected to nearly triple by 2050. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for the development of cognitive impairment, and such impairment increase the likelihood of poor glycemic/metabolic control. High phytate intake has been shown to be a protective factor against the development of cognitive impairment in observational studies. Diary phytate intake might reduce the micro- and macrovascular complications of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through different mechanisms. We describe the protocol of the first trial (the PHYND trial) that evaluate the effect of daily phytate supplementation over 56 weeks with a two-arm double-blind placebo-controlled study on the progression of mild cognitive impairment, cerebral iron deposition, and retinal involvement in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our hypothesis proposes that phytate, by inhibiting advanced glycation end product formation and chelating transition metals, will improve cognitive function and attenuate the progression from Mild Cognitive Impairment to dementia in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and mild cognitive impairment. Additionally, we predict that phytate will reduce iron accumulation in the central nervous system, mitigate neurodegenerative changes in both the central nervous system and retina, and induce alterations in biochemical markers associated with neurodegeneration., Competing Interests: The authors declare that the research was conducted in the absence of any commercial or financial relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2024 Pujol, Sanchis, Tamayo, Nicolau, Grases, Espino, Estremera, Rigo, Amengual, Rodríguez, Ribes, Gomila, Simó-Servat and Masmiquel.)

- Abstract
In order to contribute to the shift from petro-based chemistry to biobased chemistry, necessary to minimize the environmental impacts of the chemical industry, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol (4-vinyl guaiacol, 4VG) was used to synthesize a platform of biobased monomers. Thus, nine biobased monomers were successfully prepared. The synthesis procedures were investigated through the green metrics calculations in order to quantify the sustainability of our approaches. Their radical homopolymerization in toluene solution initiated by 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) was studied and the effect of residual 4VG as a radical inhibitor on the kinetics of polymerization was also explored. The new homopolymers were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (
1 H-NMR) spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography and thermal analyses (dynamical scanning calorimetry DSC, thermal gravimetric analysis TGA). By varying the length of the alkyl ester or ether group of the 4VG derivatives, homopolymers with Tg ranging from 117 °C down to 5 °C were obtained. These new biobased monomers could be implemented in radical copolymerization as substitutes to petro-based monomers to decrease the carbon footprint of the resulting copolymers for various applications.- Published

- Abstract
Susac syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune microangiopathy that affects the brain, retina, and inner ear, causing a wide range of clinical manifestations. The triad of encephalopathy, visual disturbances, and hearing loss constitute the classic disease presentation. We describe an original clinical case of a young male with a definitive diagnosis of SS, who presented with disordered behavior and amnesia, initially manifested as a dissociative or anxiety disorder but with a fulminant evolution toward severe encephalopathy associated with retinal infarcts and sensorineural hearing loss. After the diagnosis of SS, aggressive immunosuppressive treatment was started with significant neurological improvement and favorable evolution during the follow-up period. SS is a rare but potentially devastating disease that can cause great disability if not properly diagnosed and treated. The onset of SS with behavioral or psychiatric manifestation can be misleading, causing a diagnostic delay., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist., (Copyright © 2023, Masjuan et al.)
