Abstract: Childhood-onset psoriasis generally follows an indolent course but patients with moderate or severe disease may require systemic treatment. The aim of this study was to determine the relative proportion of children and young people aged up to 21 years with moderate to severe psoriasis in the BIOBADADERM registry and to analyze the characteristics of these patients, treatments used, and adverse events. Of the 3946 patients in the registry, 24 were aged 21 years or younger. They had mean age of 16.1 years on starting treatment. When the registry was started, they had a Psoriasis Area and Severity Index of 9.4 and 67% were being treated with a conventional systemic drug. Treatment was discontinued in 14 patients (58%) due to adverse events or a loss or lack of effectiveness. In conclusion, the BIOBADADERM registry shows that young people account for a small proportion of psoriasis patients receiving systemic treatment, and they are more likely to be treated using conventional systemic drugs.

The objective of this study is to gather sufficient information to make a diagnosis of drinking water sufficiency in the Chihuahua-Sacramento and Tabalaopa-Aldama aquifers. By applying advanced statistical techniques, the goal is to find the variables that control the regional and intermediate flow systems and establish the characteristics of a heterogeneous aquifer. The variables chosen from those established were as follows: total solids (TS), nitrates (NO3), fluoride (F), and total hardness, among others. In order to establish a conceptual model, the results from all the sampling were carried out by the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) in the aforementioned aquifers and were used to obtain an approximate flow differentiation. The results showed a good flow differentiation. In addition, a group of mixed water was detected among the intermediate and regional flows. The increase in the average regional flow values suggests a rise in the incidence of an upward flow of the regional flow as a result of uncontrolled extraction. HIGHLIGHTS Evaluate the relationships between the components of the local hydrological cycle, both surface and underground, to minimize existing conflicts in the use of water by users.; The systemic approach that this work has, means that the way of approaching objects and phenomena cannot be isolated, but must be seen as part of a whole.; A multivariate statistical model is used where the measurement response function plays a fundamental role, which must guarantee the number of underlying variables between wells and surface water bodies that are taken into account for comparison.; It is hypothesized that the variations in the phreatic levels of the wells must be highly correlated with the oscillations of the variables that describe the bodies of water and the temperature of the underground flows with the fluorine contents.; This will serve as a temporal and spatial guide to monitor the behavior of water quality and its temperature.;

Runoffs from hydrologic models are often used in flood models, among other applications. These runoffs are converted from rainfall, signifying the importance of weather data accuracy. A common challenge for modelers is local weather data sparsity in most watersheds. Global weather datasets are often used as alternative. This study investigates the statistical significance and accuracy between using local weather data for hydrologic models and using the Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR), a global weather dataset. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) was used to compare the two weather data inputs in terms of generated discharges. Both long-term and event-based results were investigated to compare the models against absolute discharge values. The basin’s average total annual rainfall from the CFSR-based model (4062 mm) was around 1.5 times the local weather-based model (2683 mm). These basin precipitations yielded annual average flows of 53.4 cms and 26.7 cms for CFSR-based and local weather-based models, respectively. For the event-based scenario, the dates Typhoon Ketsana passed through the Philippine Area of Responsibility were checked. CFSR only read a spatially averaged maximum daily rainfall of 18.8 mm while the local gauges recorded 157.2 mm. Calibration and validation of the models were done using the observed discharges in Sto. Niño Station. The calibration of local weather-based model yielded satisfactory results for the Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE), percent of bias (PBIAS), and ratio of the RMSE to the standard deviation of measured data (RSR). Meanwhile, the calibration of CFSR model yielded unsatisfactory values for all three parameters.

Laguna de Bay, having a surface area of about 900 km2 is the largest freshwater lake in the Philippines, and is the most important water body in Metro Manila with its variety of uses ranging from aquaculture, irrigation, water supply and flood control. Due to its available resources and strategic location, over extraction, land conversion, and urbanization, have resulted in massive changes in the lake's watershed. The objective of this study is to simulate the impact of land cover change, particularly urbanization, on the hydrology of Laguna de Bay watershed. By hypothetically converting brushland to urban areas and using ArcSWAT to simulate the effects of urbanization, discharges and water balances were assessed. The long-term hydrologic simulations showed an annual increase of 20.6 m3/s (68%) in surface runoff and a 12.8 m3/s (26%) decrease in groundwater recharge for the entire watershed as urban areas increase. The mean seasonal flows were 75. m3/s during the dry season and 149.4 m3/s during the wet season for the original land cover, and 70.2 m3/s and 154.1 m3/s for the urbanized land cover, during the dry and wet seasons, respectively. Water percolating into the aquifers beneath the ground were also lessened by 13.6 m3/s (23%). The calibration of Marikina subbasin resulted to a satisfactory percent bias (PBIAS), Nash-Sutcliffe (NSE), and the ratio of the root-mean-square error to the standard deviation of measured data (RSR). Other subbasins resulted in a relatively lower performance rating due to limited available monitoring stations within the basin.

Resultados: Se evaluaron 80 pacientes, al iniciar apremilast presentaban Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) medio (desviación estándar, DE) = 8,3 (5,3) y Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) medio (DE) = 8,9 (6,6). Abstract: Background and objectives: It is necessary to expand the knowledge in the use of apremilast in clinical practice. The APPRECIATE study (NCT02740218) aims to describe the characteristics of patients with psoriasis treated with apremilast, to evaluate their perspectives and those of dermatologists, as well as the outcomes obtained in clinical practice in Spain. Methods: Observational, retrospective, cross-sectional, multicenter study of patients with chronic plaque psoriasis who could be contacted 6 (±1) months after apremilast initiation. The data were obtained from medical records and questionnaires from patients and physicians. Results: A total of 80 patients were evaluated; at apremilast onset, they showed mean (standard deviation, SD) Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) = 8.3 (5.3), mean (SD) Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) = 8.9 (6.6). At six months, 58.8% (n=47) of patients continued apremilast treatment (discontinuations due to lack of efficacy [16.3%], safety/tolerability [20.0%]). In patients continuing treatment, PASI75 was achieved by 36.7% of patients; mean (95% CI) DLQI score was 2.2 (0.7-3.6) and mean (SD) Patient Benefit Index score was 2.8 (0.8). Compliance with physicians’ expectations was correlated with benefits reported by patients (r=0.636). Adverse events were reported by 56.3% of patients (the most common were diarrhoea and nausea). Conclusions: Patients receiving apremilast for 6 months in Spanish clinical practice, reported substantial improvements in their quality of life (mean DLQI reduced by more than 6 points) and disease severity (PASI75 achieved by over one-third of patients), despite less skin involvement than patients who enrolled in clinical trials.

Abstract: Sonidegib is an antagonist of the transmembrane protein Smoothened in the Hedgehog signaling pathway. It is indicated for the treatment of locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (BCC) that is not amenable to curative surgery or radiotherapy. Sonidegib's efficacy and safety were demonstrated in the phase 2 BOLT trial, where 61% (95% CI, 48-72%) of patients with locally advanced BCC treated with sonidegib 200 mg achieved an objective response to treatment with a mean time to response of 4 months. The median duration of response was 26.1 months and the median progression-free survival was 22.1 months. The most common adverse events were muscle spasms (54.4%), hair loss (49.4%), and loss of taste (44.3%); most events were grade 1 or 2. In this review, we summarize the main findings on the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of sonidegib and discuss the management of locally advanced BCC with this drug.

Quantum Physics - Abstract
In this communication we demonstrate that a deep artificial neural network based on a transformer architecture with self-attention layers can predict the long-time population dynamics of a quantum system coupled to a dissipative environment provided that the short-time population dynamics of the system is known. The transformer neural network model developed in this work predicts the long-time dynamics of spin-boson model efficiently and very accurately across different regimes, from weak system-bath coupling to strong coupling non-Markovian regimes. Our model is more accurate than classical forecasting models, such as recurrent neural networks and is comparable to the state-of-the-art models for simulating the dynamics of quantum dissipative systems based on kernel ridge regression.

The use of Sentinel-3 Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) images in estimating chlorophyll-a (total and class-differentiated)a concentration is promising owing to Sentinel-3’s 21 bands. This was investigated for the case of Laguna de Bay (or Laguna Lake), Philippines. Field surveys were conducted on 13–17 November 2018 using FluoroProbe, a submersible fluorimeter capable of quantifying concentrations of spectral classes of microalgae. These were regressed with reflectance data obtained from 10-day composite Sentinel-3 reflectance images as well as ten empirical algorithms (indices) for OLCI. Compared to band reflectance, the 10 indices yielded stronger correlations, especially with R665/R709, R674/R709, and (1/R665-1/R709)xR754 with the following respective correlation values: −0.623, −0.646, and 0.628. Multiple regression results indicates that 48% of the variability of total chl-a concentration is explained by five explanatory (reflectance) variables (R412, R443, R560, R681, and R754) with RMSE of 2.814 μg/l. In contrast, the two indices R674/R754 and (1/R665-1/R709)xR754 accounted for about 46% of the variability of total chl-a concentration with RMSE of 2.475 μg/l. For diatoms and bluegreen microalgae, R560/R665 and (1/R665-1/R709)xR754 constitute the models with R2 of 0.21 and 0.435, and RMSE of 2.516 and 2.163 ug/l, respectively. Green microalgal concentration is jointly described by three indices: R560/R665, R674/R754, and R709-R754, with R2 = 0.182 and RMSE = 1.219 μg/l. From cryptophytes, the model comprising of R560/R665, (1/R665-1/R709)xR754, and R709-R754 produced an R2 = 0.289 and RMSE = 0.767 μg/l. It can be said that the empirical algorithms can be used for Sentinel-3 OLCI data providing acceptable estimations of total and spectral class-differentiated chl-a concentration.

Abstract Walnut (Carya illinoinensis [Wangenh] K. Koch) is an economically important crop, both in northern Mexico and southern U.S. However, the value of walnut orchards extends beyond the harvest walnut for profit. Walnut orchards provide important environmental services; some of them have an economic profit that can be estimated, while others, their economic value is hard to quantify. The resulting pruning branches, and the shell of the nut, have a potential value as bio-fuels, or can be used as a means or artificial soil (ground or compost). But, the most important valuation of walnut orchards is associated to products that are more difficult to allocate a specific economic profit. These include: a) improvement of soils, incorporating the resulting biomass of leaves, husk and branches; b) fixing of carbon from the atmosphere and the production of oxygen by photosynthesis; c) trap and remove dust and pollutants; d) improvement in microclimate and, d) some sociological benefits. Undoubtedly, these factors easily exceed the value of the harvested walnut. This is discussed in terms of a small orchard (1 ha) and a region with over a million walnut trees.

Abstract Background and objective Severe alpha1 antitrypsin deficiency has been clearly associated with pulmonary emphysema, but its relationship with bronchial asthma remains controversial. Some deficient alpha 1 antitrypsin (AAT) genotypes seem to be associated with asthma development. The objective of this study was to analyze the distribution of AAT genotypes in asthmatic patients allergic to house dust mites (HDM), and to asses a possible association between these genotypes and severe asthma. Methods A cross-sectional cohort study of 648 patients with HDM allergic asthma was carried out. Demographic, clinical and analytical variables were collected. PI*S and PI*Z AAT deficient alleles of the SERPINA1 gene were assayed by real-time PCR. Results Asthma was intermittent in 253 patients and persistent in 395 patients (246 mild, 101 moderate and 48 severe). One hundred and forty-five asthmatic patients (22.4%) with at least one mutated allele (S or Z) were identified. No association between the different genotypes and asthma severity was found. No significant differences in all clinical and functional tests, as well as nasal eosinophils, IgA and IgE serum levels were observed. Peripheral eosinophils were significantly lower in patients with the PI*MS genotype (p = 0.0228). Neither association between deficient AAT genotypes or serum ATT deficiency (AATD) and development of severe asthma, or correlation between ATT levels and FEV1 was observed. Conclusion In conclusion, the distribution of AAT genotypes in HDM allergic asthmatic patients did not differ from those found in Spanish population. Neither severe ATTD or deficient AAT genotypes appear to confer different clinical expression of asthma.

The supplementing of sow diets with lipids during pregnancy and lactation has been shown to reduce sow condition loss and improve piglet performance. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of supplemental palm oil (PO) on sow performance, plasma metabolites and hormones, milk profiles and pre-weaning piglet development. A commercial sow ration (C) or an experimental diet supplemented with 10% extra energy in the form of PO, were provided from day 90 of gestation until weaning (24 to 28 days postpartum) in two groups of eight multiparous sows. Quantum Physics - Abstract
In this Article we perform a systematic study of the global entanglement and exciton coherence length dynamics coherence in natural light-harvesting system Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) complex across various parameters of a dissipative environment from low to high temperatures, weak to strong system-environment coupling, and non-Markovian environments. A non-perturbative numerically exact hierarchical equations of motions method is employed to propagate the dynamics of the system. We found that entanglement is driven primarily by the strength of interaction between the system and environment, and it is modulated by the interplay between temperature and non-Markovianity. In contrast, coherence length is found to be insensitive to non-Markovianity. Furthermore, our results do not show the direct correlation between global entanglement and the efficiency of the excitation energy transfer in the FMO complex

Introduction: Parkinson disease is a neurodegenerative condition involving motor, cognitive, and linguistic deficits. It is important to know why all these different deficits co-occur in the affected people. This paper aims to clarify whether these comorbid deficits result from the selective impairment of a computational primitive, namely, a context-sensitive computational ability according to Chomsky's Hierarchy (a well-established research tool in comparative neuroscience). Patients and methods: A total of 15 medicated subjects with Parkinson disease and 15 controls were selected. They were matched in age and education. A battery of tasks was designed to test 3 different domains (motor capacities, cognition, and language) and 2 different computational abilities (context-free and context-sensitive operations). Results: Significant differences between groups were observed only regarding the linguistic task involving context-sensitive computations (correferences). Conclusions: The observed deficits in our patients with Parkinson disease cannot be explained in terms of the selective impairment of one only unspecific, low-level computational process. At the same time, differences between patients and controls are expected to be greater if the former are not medicated. Moreover, we should pursue in the search of (this kind of) computational primitives than can be selectively impaired in people with Parkinson disease, because they may help to achieve an earlier diagnosis of this condition. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of the level of corn dry distillers grains with solubles (CDDGS) supplementation on growing performance, blood metabolites, digestion characteristics and ruminal fermentation patterns in steers grazing dormant forage. In Exp. 1, of growth performance, 120 steers (204±5 kg initial body weight [BW]) were distributed randomly into 3 groups (each of 40 steers), which were provided with the following levels of CDDGS supplement: 0%, 0.25%, or 0.50% BW. All groups of steers were grazed for 30 days in each of 3 grazing periods (March, April, and May). Approximately 1,000 ha of the land was divided with electric fencing into 3 equally sized pastures (333 ha in size). Blood samples were collected monthly from 20 steers in each grazing group for analysis of glucose (G), urea-nitrogen (UN) and non-esterified fatty acids.

Atmospheric particles were sampled at T1 supersite during MILAGRO campaign, in March 2006. T1 was located at the north of Mexico City (MC). Aerosol sampling was done by placing copper grids for Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) on the last five of an 8-stage MOUDI cascade impactor. Samples were obtained at different periods to observe possible variations on morphology. Absorption and scattering coefficients, as well as particle concentrations (0.01–3 μm aerodynamic diameter) were measured simultaneously using a PSAP absorption photometer, a portable integrating nephelometer, and a CPC particle counter. Particle images were acquired at different magnifications using a CM 200 Phillips TEM-EDAX system, and then calculated the border-based fractal dimension. Also, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) was used to determine the elemental composition of particles. The morphology of atmospheric particles for two aerodynamic diameters (0.18 and 1.8 μm) was compared using border-based fractal dimension to relate it to the other particle properties, because T1-generated particles have optical, morphological and chemical properties different from those transported by the MC plume. Particles sampled under MC pollution influence showed not much variability, suggesting that more spherical particles (border-based fractal dimension close to 1.0) are more common in larger sizes (d50 = 1.8 μm), which may be attributed to aerosol aging and secondary aerosol formation. Between 06:00 and 09:00 a.m., smaller particles (d50 = 0.18 μm) had more irregular shapes resulting in higher border-based fractal dimensions (1.2–1.3) for samples with more local influence. EDS analysis in d50 = 0.18 μm particles showed high contents of carbonaceous material, Si, Fe, K, and Co. Perhaps, this indicates an impact from industrial and vehicle emissions on atmospheric particles at T1.

Simulations of the dynamics of dissipative quantum systems utilize many methods such as physics-based quantum, semiclassical, and quantum-classical as well as machine learning-based approximations, development and testing of which requires diverse data sets. Here we present a new database QD3SET-1 containing eight data sets of quantum dynamical data for two systems of broad interest, spin-boson (SB) model and the Fenna--Matthews--Olson (FMO) complex, generated with two different methods solving the dynamics, approximate local thermalizing Lindblad master equation (LTLME) and highly accurate hierarchy equations of motion (HEOM). One data set was generated with the SB model which is a two-level quantum system coupled to a harmonic environment using HEOM for 1,000 model parameters. Seven data sets were collected for the FMO complex of different sizes(7- and 8-site monomer and 24-site trimer with LTLME and 8-site monomer with HEOM) for 500--879 model parameters. Our QD3SET-1 database contains both population and coherence dynamics data and part of it has been already used for machine learning-based quantum dynamics studies., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures

n this paper we present the theoretical and methodological foundations for the development of a multi-agent Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) service model that applies Semantic Web technologies for specialized digital libraries. These technologies make possible achieving more efficient information management, improving agent–user communication processes, and facilitating accurate access to relevant resources. Other tools used are fuzzy linguistic modelling techniques (which make possible easing the interaction between users and system) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques for semiautomatic thesaurus generation. Also, RSS feeds are used as “current awareness bulletins” to generate personalized bibliographic alerts.

It has been recently shown that supervised machine learning (ML) algorithms can accurately and efficiently predict the long-time populations dynamics of dissipative quantum systems given only short-time population dynamics. In the present article we benchmaked 22 ML models on their ability to predict long-time dynamics of a two-level quantum system linearly coupled to harmonic bath. The models include uni- and bidirectional recurrent, convolutional, and fully-connected feed-forward artificial neural networks (ANNs) and kernel ridge regression (KRR) with linear and most commonly used nonlinear kernels. Our results suggest that KRR with nonlinear kernels can serve as inexpensive yet accurate way to simulate long-time dynamics in cases where the constant length of input trajectories is appropriate. Convolutional Gated Recurrent Unit model is found to be the most efficient ANN model., Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures

Entrevista no estructurada.

Exact numerical simulations of dynamics of open quantum systems often require immense computational resources. We demonstrate that a deep artificial neural network comprised of convolutional layers is a powerful tool for predicting long-time dynamics of an open quantum system provided the preceding short-time dynamics of the system is known. The neural network model developed in this work simulates long-time dynamics efficiently and very accurately across different dynamical regimes from weakly damped coherent motion to incoherent relaxation. The model was trained on a data set relevant to photosynthetic excitation energy transfer and can be deployed to study long-lasting quantum coherence phenomena observed in light-harvesting complexes. Furthermore, our model performs well for the initial conditions different than those used in the training. Our approach considerably reduces the required computational resources for long-time simulations and holds promise for becoming a valuable tool in the study of open quantum systems., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures

Quantum Physics - Abstract
It is shown that, in the framework of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, any conserved Hermitian operator (which may depend explicitly on the time) is the generator of a one-parameter group of unitary symmetries of the Hamiltonian and that, conversely, any one-parameter family of unitary symmetries of the Hamiltonian is generated by a conserved Hermitian operator.
