Abstract: PANDA (anti-proton annihiliation at Darmstadt) is planned to be one of the four main experiments at the future international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. It is going to address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using cooled antiproton beams with a high intensity and and momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c. PANDA is designed to reach a maximum luminosity of 2 × 1032 cm−2 s. Most of the physics programs require an excellent particle identification (PID). The PID of hadronic states at the forward endcap of the target spectrometer will be done by a fast and compact Cherenkov detector that uses the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) principle. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 5° to 22° and to provide a separation power for the separation of charged pions and kaons up to 3 standard deviations (s.d.) for particle momenta up to 4 GeV/c in order to cover the important particle phase space. This document describes the technical design and the expected performance of the novel PANDA disc DIRC detector that has not been used in any other high energy physics experiment before. The performance has been studied with Monte-Carlo simulations and various beam tests at DESY and CERN. The final design meets all PANDA requirements and guarantees sufficient safety margins.

Abstract: The main goal of the HyperNIS experiment is the search for the lightest neutron-rich hypernuclei, in particular, $$_{{\Lambda }}^{{\text{6}}}{\text{H}}$$ and the poorly studied $$_{{\Lambda }}^{{\text{6}}}{\text{He}}{\text{,}}$$ and to measure the lifetimes and production cross sections of these hypernuclei. In order to measure the masses of the hypernuclei, it is necessary to determine the momenta of their decay products, including pions. The time-of-flight (TOF) method is planned to be used to measure the pion momenta. Simulation results show that this method provides sufficient accuracy for recovering the masses of the hypernuclei. The structure of the TOF system detectors and the results of the study of their characteristics are presented.

Abstract: The trigger system of the HyperNIS spectrometer, which was proposed for distinguishing events with the formation and subsequent decay of relativistic hyperfragments, is described. The operation of the system is based on detecting the charges of the hyperfragment and the product nucleus in two-particle π–-meson decay. The events are selected using scintillation and Cherenkov counters. This article presents the results of a methodological work on updating the equipment and software of the experiment, describes the characteristics of trigger detectors, and discusses the specificities of using the trigger system in the planned experiment on the search for the $${}_{{\Lambda }}^{6}{\text{H}}$$ hypernucleus. The expected efficiency and noise immunity of the event selection system are estimated.

Abstract: The antiproton experiment PANDA at FAIR is designed to bring hadron physics to a new level in terms of scope, precision and accuracy. In this work, its unique capability for studies of hyperons is outlined. We discuss ground-state hyperons as diagnostic tools to study non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, and fundamental symmetries. New simulation studies have been carried out for two benchmark hyperon-antihyperon production channels: $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Lambda}\Lambda$ and $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Xi}^+\Xi^-$. The results, presented in detail in this paper, show that hyperon-antihyperon pairs from these reactions can be exclusively reconstructed with high efficiency and very low background contamination. In addition, the polarisation and spin correlations have been studied, exploiting the weak, self-analysing decay of hyperons and antihyperons. Two independent approaches to the finite efficiency have been applied and evaluated: one standard multidimensional efficiency correction approach, and one efficiency independent approach. The applicability of the latter was thoroughly evaluated for all channels, beam momenta and observables. The standard method yields good results in all cases, and shows that spin observables can be studied with high precision and accuracy already in the first phase of data taking with PANDA., Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures. Abstract: The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany, provides unique possibilities for a new generation of hadron-, nuclear- and atomic physics experiments. The future antiProton ANnihilations at DArmstadt (PANDA or $$\overline{\mathrm{P}}$$ P ¯ ANDA) experiment at FAIR will offer a broad physics programme, covering different aspects of the strong interaction. Understanding the latter in the non-perturbative regime remains one of the greatest challenges in contemporary physics. The antiproton–nucleon interaction studied with PANDA provides crucial tests in this area. Furthermore, the high-intensity, low-energy domain of PANDA allows for searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g. through high precision symmetry tests. This paper takes into account a staged approach for the detector setup and for the delivered luminosity from the accelerator. The available detector setup at the time of the delivery of the first antiproton beams in the HESR storage ring is referred to as the Phase One setup. The physics programme that is achievable during Phase One is outlined in this paper.

We tagged an (η+p) pair associated with the η^{'}N→ηN process in a nucleus. After applying kinematical selections to reduce backgrounds, no signal events were observed in the bound-state region. An upper limit of the signal cross section in the opening angle cosθ_{lab}^{ηp}-0.9 was obtained to be 2.2 nb/sr at the 90% confidence level. It is compared with theoretical cross sections, whose normalization ambiguity is suppressed by measuring a quasifree η^{'} production rate. Our results indicate a small branching fraction of the η^{'}N→ηN process and/or a shallow η^{'}-nucleus potential.

Abstract: Progress in realization of the NICA project in JINR is outlined with special attention paid to results of the latest Nuclotron upgrades. The most important of them are (1) renewal of the polarized deuteron beam with kinetic energy up to Tkin ∼ 5 GeV/nucleon, now available for experiments with fixed targets, and (2) successful acceleration in the Nuclotron (and extraction from it) of relativistic polarized protons.

Abstract: The $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ (anti-Proton ANnihiliation at DArmstadt) experiment will be one of the four flagship experiments at the new international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ will address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using high-intensity cooled antiproton beams with momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c and a design luminosity of up to 2 × 1032 cm−2 s−1. Excellent particle identification (PID) is crucial to the success of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ physics program. Hadronic PID in the barrel region of the target spectrometer will be performed by a fast and compact Cherenkov counter using the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) technology. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 22° to 140° and will provide at least 3 standard deviations (s.d.) π/K separation up to 3.5 GeV/c, matching the expected upper limit of the final state kaon momentum distribution from simulation. This documents describes the technical design and the expected performance of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ Barrel DIRC detector. The design is based on the successful BaBar DIRC with several key improvements. The performance and system cost were optimized in detailed detector simulations and validated with full system prototypes using particle beams at GSI and CERN. The final design meets or exceeds the PID goal of clean π/K separation with at least 3 s.d. over the entire phase space of charged kaons in the Barrel DIRC.

Abstract: The differential cross sections and decay angular distributions for coherent $\phi$-meson photoproduction from helium-4 have been measured for the first time at forward angles with linearly polarized photons in the energy range $E_{\gamma} = \text{1.685-2.385 GeV}$. Thanks to the target with spin-parity $J^{P} = 0^{+}$, unnatural-parity exchanges are prohibited, and thus natural-parity exchanges can be investigated clearly. The decay asymmetry with respect to photon polarization is shown to be very close to the maximal value. This ensures the dominance ($> 94\%$) of natural-parity exchanges in this reaction. To evaluate the contribution from natural-parity exchanges to the forward cross section ($\theta = 0^\circ$) for the $\gamma p \rightarrow \phi p$ reaction near the threshold, the energy dependence of the forward cross section ($\theta = 0^\circ$) for the $\gamma {^{4}\text{He}} \rightarrow \phi {^{4}\text{He}}$ reaction was analyzed. The comparison to $\gamma p \rightarrow \phi p$ data suggests that enhancement of the forward cross section arising from natural-parity exchanges, and/or destructive interference between natural-parity and unnatural-parity exchanges is needed in the $\gamma p \rightarrow \phi p$ reaction near the threshold.

Abstract: Differential cross sections and photon-beam asymmetries for the γ[over →]p→π^{-}Δ^{++}(1232) reaction have been measured for 0.7cosθ_{π}^{c.m.}1 and E_{γ}=1.5-2.95 GeV at SPring-8/LEPS. The first-ever high statistics cross-section data are obtained in this kinematical region, and the asymmetry data for 1.5E_{γ}(GeV)2.8 are obtained for the first time. This reaction has a unique feature for studying the production mechanisms of a pure uu[over ¯] quark pair in the final state from the proton. Although there is no distinct peak structure in the cross sections, a non-negligible excess over the theoretical predictions is observed at E_{γ}=1.5-1.8 GeV. The asymmetries are found to be negative in most of the present kinematical regions, suggesting the dominance of π exchange in the t channel. The negative asymmetries at forward meson production angles are different from the asymmetries previously measured for the photoproduction reactions producing a dd[over ¯] or an ss[over ¯] quark pair in the final state. Advanced theoretical models introducing nucleon resonances and additional unnatural-parity exchanges are needed to reproduce the present data.

Abstract: We have tested a time-of-propagation (TOP) counter, which is a ring-image Cherenkov counter utilizing the position and propagation time of the Cherenkov light produced by particles moving in a quartz radiator. Position-sensitive photomultipliers (PMTs) are attached to the end of the quartz bar to detect the produced Cherenkov-ring image. The velocity of the charged particle was determined by comparing the time-of-propagation spectra of the Cherenkov light with the results of Monte Carlo simulation. From analysis of the test experiment using the 1.22-GeV/c electron beam at SPring-8, we determined the velocity of the electron beam to be 1.001 with a resolution of 0.002. On the basis of this study, we suggest a full setup for the detector for separating pions and kaons in the momentum region from 1.5 to 2.0 GeV/c for a beam angle of less than 6 $^\circ$ , by more than four standard deviations.

Abstract: The exclusive charmonium production process in (P) over barp annihilation with an associated pi 0 meson (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0) is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the J/psi -> e(+) e(-) decay channel with the AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt ((P) over bar ANDA) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including the (P) over barp -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0)pi(0) reactions are performed with PANDAROOT, the simulation and analysis software framework of the (P) over bar ANDA experiment. It is shown that the measurement can be done at (P) over bar ANDA with significant constraining power under the assumption of an integrated luminosity attainable in four to five months of data taking at the maximum design luminosity.

Abstract: A search for the K − p p bound state (the lightest kaonic nucleus) has been performed using the γ d → K + π − X reaction at E γ = 1.5 – 2.4 GeV at LEPS/SPring-8. The differential cross section of the K + π − photo-production off deuterium ( d 2 σ / d cos θ K + l a b / d cos θ π − l a b ) has been measured for the first time in this energy region. A peak structure was searched for in the inclusive missing mass spectrum. A statistically significant peak structure was not observed in the region from 2.22 to 2.36 GeV/c2. The upper limits of the differential cross section of the K − p p bound state production were determined to be (0.17–0.55), (0.55–1.7) and (1.1–2.9) μb at 95% confidence level with the assumed widths of 20 MeV, 60 MeV and 100 MeV.

Abstract: Baryon-to-meson Transition Distribution Amplitudes (TDAs) encoding valuable new information on hadron structure appear as building blocks in the collinear factorized description for several types of hard exclusive reactions. In this paper, we address the possibility of accessing nucleon-to-pion ($��N$) TDAs from $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- ��^0$ reaction with the future PANDA detector at the FAIR facility. At high center of mass energy and high invariant mass squared of the lepton pair $q^2$, the amplitude of the signal channel $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- ��^0$ admits a QCD factorized description in terms of $��N$ TDAs and nucleon Distribution Amplitudes (DAs) in the forward and backward kinematic regimes. Assuming the validity of this factorized description, we perform feasibility studies for measuring $\bar{p}p \to e^+e^- ��^0$ with the PANDA detector. Detailed simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as on rejection of the most severe background channel, i.e. $\bar{p}p \to ��^+��^- ��^0$ were performed for the center of mass energy squared $s = 5$ GeV$^2$ and $s = 10$ GeV$^2$, in the kinematic regions $3.0 < q^2 < 4.3$ GeV$^2$ and $5 < q^2 < 9$ GeV$^2$, respectively, with a neutral pion scattered in the forward or backward cone $| \cos��_{��^0}| > 0.5 $ in the proton-antiproton center of mass frame. Results of the simulation show that the particle identification capabilities of the PANDA detector will allow to achieve a background rejection factor of $5\cdot 10^7$ ($1\cdot 10^7$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=5$ GeV$^2$, and of $1\cdot 10^8$ ($6\cdot 10^6$) at low (high) $q^2$ for $s=10$ GeV$^2$, while keeping the signal reconstruction efficiency at around $40\%$. At both energies, a clean lepton signal can be reconstructed with the expected statistics corresponding to $2$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. 25. Research program of the NIS-GIBS project at JINR Nuclotron

Abstract: The research program planned for extracted proton and relativistic nuclei beams of the JINR Nuclotron is briefly outlined in this talk. The program is to be realized with the NIS-GIBS spectrometer and consists of two parts. The first one is aimed to search for effects of nucleon polarized strangeness in production of φ and ω mesons in pp and np scattering. The latter one is devoted to the investigation of hydrogen hypernuclei isotopes.

Abstract: The tensor analyzing power T20 for the p(d,pd) and p(d,p)pn reactions θcmp = 180° have been measured at incident deuteron momenta from 3.5 to 6.5 GeV/c. For both reactions T20 remains negative up to internal momentum k ⋍ 0.85 GeV/c and show a rich structure beyond the region where T20 is expected to be determined by the S- and D-states of the deuteron. The T20 data for deuteron breakup without pion production, close to the backward elastic kinematics, were obtained simultaneously with the elastic data.

Abstract: Using a recent parametrization of the fully antisymmetric three-nucleon wave function, based on the Paris and CD-Bonn potentials, we analyze the momentum distributions of constituents in ${}^{3}$He as well as the spin-dependent observables for ${(}^{3}\mathrm{He},d)$ and ${(}^{3}\mathrm{He},p)$ breakup reactions. Special attention is paid to the region of small relative momenta of the ${}^{3}$He constituents, where a single parameter, ${D}_{2}$, has a determining role for the spin-dependent observables in the $d+p$ channel. This fact results in some useful relations between experimental observables.

Abstract: This document describes the technical layout and the expected performance of the Straw Tube Tracker (STT), the main tracking detector of the $\bar{P}$ANDA target spectrometer. The STT encloses a Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) for the inner tracking and is followed in beam direction by a set of GEM stations. The tasks of the STT are the measurement of the particle momentum from the reconstructed trajectory and the measurement of the specific energy loss for a particle identification. Dedicated simulations with full analysis studies of certain proton-antiproton reactions, identified as being benchmark tests for the whole $\bar{P}$ANDA scientific program, have been performed to test the STT layout and performance. The results are presented, and the time lines to construct the STT are described.

Abstract: The tensor analyzing power T 20 in inclusive deuteron breakup at 9 GeV/c and 0° on hydrogen and carbon targets up to internal momenta k of the proton in the deuteron of ∼ 1 GeV/c has been measured. The analyzing power remains negative up to the highest measured values of k , and is in definite disagreement with predictions from several theoretical models. A systematic difference between T 20 for deuteron breakup on hydrogen and carbon is observed.

Abstract: Results of the total cross section differenceΔσL in anp transmission experiment at 1.19, 2.49 and 3.65 GeV incident neutron beam kinetic energies are presented. Measurements were performed at the Synchrophasotron of the Laboratory of High Energies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Results were obtained with a polarized beam of free quasi-monochromatic neutrons passing through the new Dubna frozen spin proton target. The beam and target polarizations were oriented longitudinally. The present results were obtained at the highest energies of free polarized neutrons that can be reached at present. They extend the energy range of existing results from PSI, LAMPF and Saclay measured between 0.066 and 1.10 GeV. The new results are compared withΔσL(pn) data determined as a difference betweenΔσL(pd) andΔσL(pp) ANL-ZGS measurements. The values ofΔσL for the isospin stateI=0 were deduced using knownpp data.

Abstract: First results for T 20 of the inelastic ( d , d ′) X reaction above the Δ threshold are presented. It is observed that T 20 is negative; its absolute value is small in the Δ region and rises almost linearly to |T 20 | ⋍ (0.4–0.6) at energy transfers Q ⋍ 1 GeV. No significant dependence on the type of the target and on the initial energy was observed.

Abstract: We report a new calibration of the polarimeter POMME for energies between 1.05 and 2.40 GeV using polarized proton beams at the Laboratoire National Saturne. A 16 parameter and a new 14 parameter empirical formula have been used to fit both the angular and energy dependencies of the inclusive proton-carbon analyzing power data between 0.80 and 2.40 GeV. Both fits have very good chi-square, 1.20 per degree of freedom for the former, and 1.05 for the latter. The parameters from these fits can be used to predict the angular distribution of the pC analyzing power at any energy within the energy range of the fits.

Abstract: The polarization transfer κ0 and the tensor analyzing power T20 for the 1 H d p)d reaction have been measured up to an internal momentum of k = 0.58 GeV/c. Comparison of the same observables obtained in recent studies for 1 H d p)d reaction, as a function of k, show different behavior. However the data from these two reactions are almost identical when compared in T20 versus κ0 correlation plots. We discuss similarities and differences observed in the two reactions.

Abstract: The polarization transfer coefficient of the 12 C( d, p ) X reaction has been measured using a deuteron beam of the JINR synchrophasotron and the spectrometer ALPHA. The covered internal momentum range of the deuteron wave function is 0–0.51 GeV/c. The measured values compared with the ones obtained at lower energies at Saclay in term of internal momentum demonstrate the absence of essential energy and A-dependence of this observable. A comparison of the new polarization transfer data with earlier measurements of T20 demonstrates the existence of a systematic deviation from the Impulse Approximation independently of the kind of the deuteron wave function with S- and D-wave only.

Abstract: The tensor polarization ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{20}$ of deuterons emitted in the ${}^{1}\mathrm{H}{(}^{3}\mathrm{He},\stackrel{\ensuremath{\leftrightarrow}}{d})X$ reaction at ${0}^{\ensuremath{\circ}}$ in the laboratory system was measured at the Saturne National Laboratory in Saclay using the SPES-4 spectrometer with the HYPOM polarimeter located downstream from its focal plane. The momentum of the detected deuterons was kept fixed at 3.77 GeV$/c$, while the momentum of the ${}^{3}\mathrm{He}$ beam was varied from 4.60 to 5.66 GeV$/c$, thus providing a range of internal momenta $k$ of the deuteron in ${}^{3}\mathrm{He}$ from 0 up to 0.4 GeV$/c$. The data obtained are compared with theoretical predictions.

Abstract: To study fundamental questions of hadron and nuclear physics in interactions of antiprotons with nucleons and nuclei, the universal PANDA detector will be built. Gluonic excitations, the physics of strange and charm quarks and nucleon structure studies will be performed with unprecedented accuracy thereby allowing high-precision tests of the strong interaction. The proposed PANDA detector is a state-of-the art internal target detector at the HESR at FAIR allowing the detection and identification of neutral and charged particles generated within the relevant angular and energy range. This report presents a summary of the physics accessible at PANDA and what performance can be expected.

Abstract: The (3He, t) charge-exchange reaction on carbon nuclei and protons, accompanied by the excitation of Δ isobars in a target, has been studied at beam momenta from 4.40 to 18.3 GeV/c. The analysis is performed to explain why the Δ-peak in the inclusive A( 3 He, t) and A(p, n) measurements is shifted towards lower energy transfers (in comparison with the reactions on free nucleons) but in the exclusive ones it is shifted towards higher transfers. An attempt is undertaken to determine the characteristics of Δ excitation in nuclei by a (3He, t) reaction that is free of the admixture of quasifree Δ production.

Abstract: A polarimeter for polarized deuteron beams at the JINR synchrophasotron in the energy range of several GeV per nucleon is described. A left-right-symmetrical detector configuration is used to measure vector and tensor polarizations of deuterons in the forward scattering on a liquid hydrogen target. In this paper we present the results of various measurements to adjust optimum conditions for the working regime of the ion source.

Abstract: We measured diffractive scattering cross sections of alpha-particles on carbon, aluminium, copper and lead using the beam of the Dubna synchrophasotron at 3.64 GeV/nucleon. The data are compared with model predictions of the Glauber-Sitenko multiple scattering theory. Large discrepancies between experiment and calculations appear at four-momentum transfers above ∼0.25 (GeV/c)2. Various theoretical attempts to improve the description of high-energy alpha-scattering data are discussed.

Abstract: Semiexclusive measurements of the two-pion-production $p(\ensuremath{\alpha},{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{'})p\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi}$ reaction have been carried out at an energy of ${E}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}=4.2$ GeV at the Saturne-II (Saclay) accelerator with the SPES4-\ensuremath{\pi} installation. This reaction was investigated by simultaneous registration of the scattered \ensuremath{\alpha} particle and the secondary proton. The obtained results show that the two-pion production in inelastic \ensuremath{\alpha}-particle scattering on the proton at the energy of the experiment proceeds mainly through excitation in the target proton of the Roper resonance and its decay with emission of two pions in the isospin $I=0,S$-wave state.

Abstract: The 0° differential cross sections of the12C(4He,p) and12C(4He,t) reactions have been measured at beam momenta of 4.52 and 2.69 GeV/c/nucleon, respectively. The proton and triton momentum distributions in4He are extracted from the cross sections using a relativistic impulse approximation. Some theoretical models based on realisticN-N potentials are examined for our data.

Abstract: We measured the differential cross section and the spin correlation parameter C{sub yy} of the p-vector+{sup 3}He-vector elastic backward scattering at 200, 300, and 400 MeV at {theta}=180 deg. in the center-of-mass frame to study the mechanism of the reaction and to examine the validity of the {sup 3}He wave functions based on two different realistic two-body forces. This is the first measurement of the spin correlation parameter C{sub yy} of the p-vector+{sup 3}He-vector EBS at intermediate energies. The experimental results were compared with few-body calculations, including three reaction mechanisms: two-nucleon-pair exchange, pion exchange, and direct pp scattering. It was found that few-body calculations describe the differential cross-section data reasonably well. The spin correlation parameter C{sub yy} shows clear evidence for the two-nucleon-pair exchange processes in the reaction, demonstrating that the spin observables are helpful for deeper understanding of the reaction mechanism.

Abstract: We report the measurement of differential cross sections for $\omega$ and $\eta'$ photoproduction from protons at backward angles ($-1.0 2.4$ GeV. A bump structure in the $\sqrt{s}$ dependence of the differential cross sections for $\eta'$ mesons was observed at $\sqrt{s}\sim$2.35 GeV.

Abstract: EI SEP PHASE ACC; The paper describes the spectrometric system “SPES4–$\pi$” used at the National Laboratory Saturne (CE Saclay, France) for the exclusive study of the baryon resonance excitation in inelastic α and d scattering on the proton, as well as coherent pion production in charge exchange reactions. The system consists of the magnetic spectrometer SPES4 and two wide-aperture position-sensitive detector arrays, equipped with wire chambers and scintillator hodoscopes, installed around a large-gap C-shape dipole magnet.

49. The addition theorem for 4-velocities

Abstract: The addition theorem for 4-velocities is obtained. It is shown that the time-like component of a relative 4-velocity of two particles is defined by a relativistic invariant quantity, namely, by the scalar product of their 4-velocities. The modulus squared of the spatial component of the relative 4-velocity, i.e. mod u12 mod 2, is just a scalar product (double contraction) of the corresponding skew products of the initial 4-velocities. Using the mod u12 mod 2, the relativistic kinetic equation is presented in the explicitly Lorentz-invariant form. Some application of the relative 4-velocity in high-energy physics is discussed.

Abstract: The characteristics of a polarimeter to measure the tensor polarization of deuterons with energy of a few GeV have been studied by Monte Carlo simulations. The analyzing reaction is forward elastic dp scattering. The results of the simulation have been verified with a prototype hydrogen cell and a recoil proton detector using drift tubes inserted in the polarimeter POMME. The test used a vector and tensor polarized deuteron beam of 1.6 GeV kinetic energy at the accelerator Saturne. The feasability of a vector and tensor deuteron high-energy polarimeter based on deuteron–proton elastic scattering reaction has been studied. We present here the prediction of a Monte Carlo simulation and the first results of a test made with a prototype, at the Saturne National Laboratory.
