The present study aimed to compare the exercise order of an acute bout of resistance exercise (RT) on acute thyroid hormonal responses. Eight (n = 8) healthy men were randomly separated into two experimental groups: A) the order from multi- to single-joint exercises (MJSJ) and B) the order from single- to multijoint exercises (SJ-MJ). For all exercises in both orders, the subjects were submitted to 3 sets of 10 repetitions, with rest intervals of 2 minutes between sets and 3 minutes between exercises. Blood samples were collected at rest and 0, 15, 30, 60 and 120 min after the end of the exercise session. In thyroidstimulating hormone (TSH), differences between groups (MJ-SJ < SJ-MJ) were observed within 15 minutes after the session. In 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3), differences between groups were observed between 30 (MJ-SJ > SJ-MJ) and 120 minutes (MJ-SJ < SJ-MJ) after the session. In 3,5,3',5'-tetraiodothyronine (T4), differences between groups (MJSJ > SJ-MJ) were observed within 15 minutes after the RT session. The order of RT exercises significantly changes the hormonal responses of TSH, T3 and T4. In addition, the exercise order should be chosen according to the individual's objectives. Purpose. to compare isokinetic knee flexors and extensors concentric muscle strength in young soccer players of different ages and playing positions. Methods. Seventy-seven young male soccer players were divided into 3 age categories: U-15, U-17, and U-20, with the consideration of 4 game positions: goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards. the concentric tests of the hamstrings (Hcon) and quadriceps (Qcon) were performed at 30°/s, 60°/s, and 180°/s, and the ratio of 180°/30° was calculated. Results. the values of Qcon for the U-15 turned out significantly lower in comparison with the U-20 in 30°/s and 180°/s and in the 180°/30° ratio. the Hcon values for the U-15 were significantly lower than for the U-20 at 30°/s, 60°/s, 180°/s, as well as in the 180°/30° ratio. Strength levels were shown to be significantly different between the 3 analysed categories. the goalkeepers presented with Qcon and Hcon values significantly higher than the other playing positions, regardless of the angular velocity used. Conclusions. U-15, U-17, and U-20 athletes do not have the same level of strength. the goalkeepers demonstrated high strength values, suggesting the importance of specific training for each game position. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a low intensity active static stretching class on blood pressure and arterial stiffness in young healthy men. Twenty-six young untrained men were randomly assigned to one of two groups: Control (CTRL) with no stretching; and active static stretching routine (STCH-CLASS) during which the subjects were submitted to 4 sets of an active static stretching routine. Brachial pulse pressure (BPP), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and mean arterial pressure (MAP) were assessed before and immediately after each condition in both groups. Prior to the treatment, there were no significant differences in blood pressure between the two groups (P>0.05). However, after the STCH-CLASS, BBP, SBP, and MAP increased in comparison to the CTRL (P<0.05). The active static stretching routine resulted in an increase in blood pressure and pulse pressure, which indirectly reflects an increase in arterial stiffness. These findings indicate that active static stretching should be conducted cautiously since an increase in pulse pressure is related to a greater risk of adverse cardiovascular events (even in young healthy adults).
